Sea Lion High

SeaWorld Orlando recently announced the opening date of April 16 for the all-new show “Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High.”

Full of adventure, fun and big personalities, the show takes place in an aquatic-themed high school where laughter and education go hand in hand (er, flipper). When our dynamic duo – Clyde and Seamore – are nominated to win scholarships to Ocean University, they must enter crash courses in science, dance and gym in a storyline that is full of fast-paced fun. The cast of amazing animals and trainers connect with guests as only SeaWorld can, and an educational pre-show celebrates teachers from all over.

“Sea Lion High is a place where animals and people learn and play,” says Michael Fletcher, Vice President of Entertainment for SeaWorld Orlando. “Our guests will connect with these animals through a show that is full of fun and celebration, yet also blends in entertaining messages that encourage education, exploration and using your imagination.”

The best way to experience the all new-show, Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High is with the purchase of a 2015 Fun Card which allows unlimited admission to SeaWorld all year for the price of a single-day ticket. For more details on all the park shows and attractions, visit SeaWorldOrlando.com

Do’s and Don’ts for Meeting Characters at Disney World

Mickey Mouse

Even as an adult, a trip to Disney isn’t complete without meeting Mickey Mouse. I still get excited and I always have butterflies in my stomach before hugging the Big Cheese, himself. For children, this feeling is only magnified. Whether you are meeting Mickey Mouse for the first time, or your children are getting ready to meet their favorite princess for the first or 100th time, follow these Do’s and Don’ts for a fun and enjoyable character interaction.

The Do’s

Do: Bring something for the character to sign. Whether it is an autograph book, photo matte, or postcard, collecting character signatures is a fun way to interact with all your favorite characters, and gather some FREE mementos from your trip. Get creative with them when you get home and make a collage or add them to your scrapbook.

Do: Remember your manners. Characters love to interact with guests, but please remember to be gentle with the characters and remind your little ones that it is not funny to punch Pluto. Along with this, keep your questions relevant. Definitely ask Anna and Elsa where Olaf is or if they miss Arendale, but don’t ask what time their shift ends or if they are a natural red head/blonde.

Do: Plan ahead. Make sure to check your Times Guide to see where and when your must see characters will be appearing, and make sure to get in line early. Many characters have long lines, so make sure to account for that in your day. You can also get a FastPass for many characters and that will cut your wait time down significantly.

Do: Get your picture taken. You can either use PhotoPass , or hand your camera or phone to one of the photographers to get a fun and FREE picture with all the characters. This is another great way to collect memories and mementos without spending any money.

The Don’ts

Don’t: be cranky with the character about the wait. It is not Cinderella’s fault that there was a long wait to meet her. Try not to take your frustrations out on the characters or their attendants. They are doing their best to make each interaction magical, while still trying to keep the line moving.

Don’t: monopolize the characters time too much. It’s great to have an autograph signed, a photo taken, and a small conversation. However, do not take up so much time by have individual photos taken, a group photo taken, a kids only photo, and then an adult only photo taken. Remember, there are a lot of people in line behind you, and you have a lot of other things to get to that day as well.

Don’t: ruin the magic for others. There is only ONE Mickey Mouse. Do not ruin the magic for guests behind you in line by suggesting otherwise to the characters or the attendants. Try to look at the situation from a child’s point of view and ask questions that keep the magic alive.

Don’t: ask the character to hold your child. It’s against the rules. I agree that it would make an adorable picture to have Goofy holding a small tot in his arms, but it’s just not possible for the characters to do this.

So, we’ve covered the basics of the Do’s and Don’ts of meeting characters. Most importantly, just remember to have fun! Character meet and greets are some of my favorite memories from Disney vacations.

Did we miss any Do’s or Don’ts? Let us know if the comments!

New Muppets Short Series Coming to Disney Junior

Muppet Moments
Muppet Moments

KERMIT THE FROG

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and other beloved Muppets star in Disney Junior’s “Muppet Moments,” a new short-form series of amusing conversations between Muppets and young kids about everyday topics including “apologies,” “favorite foods” and “manners.” The series will debut on Disney Channel with four shorts premiering FRIDAY, APRIL 3 (8:25 a.m., 8:55 a.m., 9:25 a.m. and 9:55 a.m., ET/PT) and a new short airing daily through Friday, May 8.

New shorts will continue to rollout throughout 2015 and will also be available on Watch Disney Junior.

Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide said, “The Muppets have been a part of nearly every family’s life and we are delighted to bring back fond memories of these iconic characters for parents and create new ones for the youngest members of the family. ‘Muppet Moments’ highlight the Muppets doing what they do best — making kids and families laugh, while showcasing compassion and heart. Our hope is that viewers will come away seeing how funny and special the Muppets really are.”

Kermit the Frog added, “In show business, they say never work with kids or animals. Well, on ‘Muppet Moments’ we break both those rules and a lot more – and the results are fun, silly, and even inspiring.”

In addition to Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear, “Muppet Moments” will feature appearances by The Great Gonzo, Animal, Beaker, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Rowlf, Bobo, The Newsman, Rizzo, Sam Eagle and Pepe the King Prawn. The series is produced by Alex Rockwell and directed by Bill Barretta. It is a production of The Muppets Studio in association with Disney Junior.

For 60 years, the Muppets have captured audiences with their unique blend of heart and humor. The Muppets, created by the late visionary Jim Henson, are among the world’s most iconic and beloved characters. Led by the world’s most famous amphibian, Kermit the Frog, the Muppets have starred in eight feature films, Emmy Award-winning television series and specials, Webby Award-winning online videos as well as hundreds of press appearances worldwide.

Frozen Fan-atics…there is no need to “Let It Go” because it’s shaping up to be the “Coolest Summer Ever” at Walt Disney World Resort, and one of the biggest highlights of the season is sure to be the return of “Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with favorite characters, unforgettable music, delightful enhancements and immersive experiences.

This summer-long special event features a full day of “Frozen” fun from park open to park close, including a royal procession, a sing-along celebration, fun photo opportunities, “Frozen” merchandise, specialty food and beverage offerings and a grand finale fireworks spectacular.

  • Frozen Royal Welcome – Twice each day, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff take part in a festive cavalcade throughout Hollywoodland, accompanied by the Royal Arendelle Flag Corps and a flurry of skaters, skiiers and ice cutters – along with lovable snowman, Olaf. Anna leads the procession in a beautiful horse-drawn sleigh, with Elsa gliding by on a stunning, ice palace float. The entire procession pauses twice along the route in tribute to these visitors from Arendelle, as everyone in Hollywoodland is invited to join in singing “Let It Go!”
  • For the First Time in Forever: A “Frozen” Sing-Along Celebration – Just in time for this year’s “Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE event, this popular show moves into the beautiful Hyperion Theater (formerly Superstar Television Theater), located right in the heart of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Royal Historians of Arendelle host a fun and comedic retelling of the unique story of their kingdom, filled with delightful, sing-along moments from “Frozen,” plus all-new in-theater effects and special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff.
  • Olaf’s Summer Cool Down – Several times each day, the Ambassador of Hollywoodland brings Olaf and some of his friends to the Event Stage to have a little fun with everyone “In Summer.” And as temperatures heat up, Olaf happily shares a burst from his personal snow cloud to cool things off.
  • “Coolest Summer Ever” Dance Party – Once the sun goes down, a dance party takes over the area around the Event Stage, with DJ Chill and some of your favorite Disney characters. Using a special event hashtag, you can share song requests and photos over social media, to be featured onscreen during the party.
  • “Frozen” Fireworks – As the night comes to a close, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf come together at the Event Stage for a grand finale to the day’s festivities, kicking off an awe-inspiring fireworks display set to the glorious music of “Frozen” and, of course, a flurry of snow!

“Frozen” Summer Fun LIVE starts June 17 and continues daily through September 7 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

pop

Howdy folks!  I’m back today to share with you my Top 10 Quick Service dining locations scattered throughout your favorite Walt Disney World resorts.  In case you missed it, be sure to check out my other post on my Top 10 Quick Service dining locations throughout the parks.

The resorts offer some great dining experiences, even in the form of Quick Service dining.  And, you can take advantage of doing a little resort hopping and exploration, while using your Disney Dining Plan credits. Here are my favorites, in no particular order, except for #1!!!

  1. Art of Animation- Landscape of Flavors  I love how extensive the menus are at this location for all meals!  Hearty platters can be found at breakfast, filling your belly for a fun-filled day in the park and the lunch and dinner menu offers meals ranging from sandwiches to pizza to international fare.  There’s definitely something for everyone here!!
  2. Animal Kingdom Lodge- Mara Named for the Masai Mara National Reserve, this quick service location found in the Jambo House serves up African inspired meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with your traditional American fare.  It’s a great spot to experience some new cuisine!
  3. All Star Sports- End Zone Food Court  Dinner options here are top notch, featuring items such as London Broil, Roast Turkey, Chicken Penne Alfredo, Grilled Salmon, and Lasagna.  For a Quick Service meal, this is a great place to fill up!
  4. All Star Music- Intermission Food Court  You can find just about everything here for breakfast, ranging from breakfast platters, Mickey waffles, pancakes, and a number of different omelet options.  Lunch and dinner are also winners, serving up individual pizzas, specialty sandwiches, and a variety of burgers.
  5. Beach Club- Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill Did all that splashing around in Stormalong Bay get you hungry?  Then mosey on over to Hurricane Hanna’s for a quick bite to eat.  Here you will find entrees from the land and sea, and for those over 21, enjoy a specialty cocktail.  I can’t wait to have a Pina CoLAVA on my next trip!
  6. Grand Floridian- Gasparilla Island Grill I may be a little biased because we stay at Grand Floridian a lot, but, I love the fact that Gasparilla is open 24/7 and it’s definitely one of my favorite places to eat!!  It’s here that I can be found getting my Mickey waffles for breakfast, and lunch features a number of delicious sandwiches, flatbreads, salads, and other entrees.  I also love the larger portions at dinner, for when we want a quick meal after an afternoon of relaxing to refuel for Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom!  My family enjoys grabbing a shaded table overlooking the marina.
  7. Polynesian Village- Capt. Cook’s  Enjoy Polynesian cuisine featured at lunch and dinner, including Hawaiian Flatbreads, Aloha Pork Sandwiches, and Fish Tacos.  Plus, it gives you a good excuse to check out the new lobby, feature pool, and a glimpse of the new bungalows!
  8. Contemporary- Contempo Cafe  Breakfast is your standard menu, but, come lunch and dinner, favorites such as flatbreads, sushi, and hearty entrees make an appearance!  Don’t forget the cupcakes for dessert!!!
  9. Pop Century- Everything POP  Here you can find just about anything and everything, along with some things that you never would imagine…like a Pop Tarts Breakfast Sandwich!  There is also an extensive lunch and dinner menu, and a large grab-and-go section to put some snacks in your park bag.
  10. Caribbean Beach Resort- Old Port Royale  You will find a nice mix of Caribbean and American delights here all day.  I highly recommend the Caribbean Shrimp Salad or the Lime Chicken Wrap.  Light yet totally satisfying!

All this talk about food is making my tummy growl and I can not wait to eat lunch very soon at Hurricane Hanna’s during my upcoming trip!  Please keep in mind that all menus are subject to change at any time. If you love food as much as I do be sure to check out Chip’s 100 Disney Foods to eat before you die challenge!
