How to keep cool at the Walt Disney World theme parks

???????????????????????????????

Spring is in the air! The hot, humid air…ok so maybe it’s not quite hot or humid yet, but that doesn’t mean that Florida isn’t getting some heat – and there will be more of that to come as summer approaches too! As you plan to head to Walt Disney World this Spring and Summer, I recommend you take some preventative measures to help ensure that you are as cool as can be:

Freeze Those Drinks – Get some disposable water bottles and fill them about 2/3 of the way with water, and then stick them in the freezer of your WDW Resort room Fridge the night before you head to the Parks. By the time it warms up outside and you’re ready to drink them, they should be partially melted and SUPER frigidly cold – the perfect thing on a hot day! And on that note – Remember To Drink A LOT while you’re touring – And I’m not talking about margaritas! Keeping hydrated is really important in the heat – water is best, but sports drinks and juice are good choices too.

Invest In A Chilly Towel – I don’t know who invented these, but they are awesome – a towel that you wet, and it magically becomes cool and stays cool for up to 4 hours. Once it loses it’s cool, just re-wet it and boom, instant cool on a hot day! There are a couple different types of these on the market, but the Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Cooling Towel is one of the more highly rated ones. How great would a cool wet towel feel on your neck during a long wait for the Seven Dwarves Mine Train? Pretty darn good, I would think!

Loose Dress Is Best – This is not the time to get all decked out in tight shirts and constricting clothing – keep your wardrobe choices loose and you will be way more comfortable in the heat. On another note, make sure you were comfortable shoes too – sandals, sneakers, Crocs – whatever you have that is comfortable and already broken in (this part is the key!) will be your best bet at the Parks

Take A Break – Walking and waiting in line and riding rides is fun – but it can get tiring quick, especially when it’s hot out! There’s so much to see and do and experience at the Disney Parks that it can be overwhelming, and between that and the heat and the sun – it’s a recipe for disaster! But luckily you can avoid all that if you just remember to relax and take frequent breaks. Find a shady spot to sit for a few minutes, grab a snack, people watch, plan your next rides, whatever works for you. The heat tends to be worst in the afternoon – so another option is to hit the Parks hard in the morning and head back to your Resort after lunch for a nap, or a swim, or just some down time to relax and escape the sun and heat. Then you can head back to the Parks early evening and you’re refreshed and ready to make a night of it!

Go Inside – There are plenty of indoor attractions and shows at Walt Disney World that not only get you out of the sun and into air conditioning, but that also offer your feet a break! Check out the Carousel of Progress, Spaceship Earth, Muppets 3D – or any of the other indoor shows – they’re a great way to beat the heat! Bonus – a lot of them tend to have pretty short wait times which is always a plus

Summer can be a HOT time to visit the Disney Parks – but many people (especially those with school age children!) can only travel there in the summer, so if you’re one of those people – I suggest you pack lots of shorts and use all of my “stay cool” tips – they will help ensure that your trip to the Happiest Place On Earth is a great one!

Magic Kingdom New Gardens

The new Magic Kingdom Central Plaza area between Main Street, U.S.A. and Cinderella Castle has been open to guests for a little while now. The new landscaping is the first milestone of a multi-phase project that features sculpted gardens, charming fountains and winding pathways. This area is designed to be reminiscent of castle gardens and offers extraordinary viewing locations for parades and fireworks. I love the new additions! It is such a nice place to relax and have a snack. It is like Central Park but with a view of an amazing castle.

Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First Join Disney Junior Play 'n Dine at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Starting now in May, the adorable Dottie “Doc” McStuffins will meet guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in a setting inspired by her playhouse clinic on the Emmy-nominated TV show, “Doc McStuffins,” airing on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Doc is a nurturing and caring, 6 year old girl who can talk with the stuffed animal she cares for. Guests also can see Doc McStuffins in “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” and spend time with her during breakfast and lunch at Disney Junior Play ‘n Dine at Hollywood & Vine, both at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I just love Lambie! Who is your favorite?

Midway Mania

We know that Disney is always working on making great things incredible. So you may have heard about some of the newest improvements coming to the Walt Disney World Resort. First up is Soarin’ at Epcot. Soarin’ will get updated screens and projections systems. Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios will get more track. The expansions are expected to be complete by late 2016, offering even more opportunities for you to enjoy these beloved attractions during your Disney World vacation.

What's New, and What's Next at Walt Disney World in 2015

As part of Disney World’s new technology there is a new form of electronic payment that is now being accepted at many Disney-operated merchandise, quick-service food and beverage, outdoor vending, spa and recreation, as well as ticket sales locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort using stationary touch-to-pay devices (stations also used for payments made with MagicBands).

Known as contactless payment, this new form of electronic payment is most commonly associated with mobile apps including Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Softcard, as well as Near Field Communication-enabled (NFC) credit cards. Purchases using contactless payment are made by holding a mobile device or NFC-enabled credit card near the touch point (Mickey head) on stationary touch-to-pay devices.

Disney Purchases Carousel Inn Across the Street from Disneyland

carousel inn

The Walt Disney Co. recently purchased the Carousel Inn which sits directly across Harbor Blvd. from the entrance to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. According to public records, the purchase was made for $32 million.

The Carousel Inn is a five-story hotel with 131 rooms and features a rooftop pool. It’s located between the Tropicana Inn and Suites and the Pizza Press restaurant. As of right now Disney has no long-term plans for this hotel and current management will continue to run it.

“The Walt Disney Co. saw this as a strategic investment, as opportunities to purchase properties in close proximity to the resort are extremely rare,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland spokeswoman.

There are currently three Disney hotels in the Disneyland Resort area-Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel, and Disney Grand Californian. The Carousel Inn will not be considered one of the Disneyland Resort hotels. Disney is more like the landlord of the hotel.

Stay tuned for more news and updates about the Disneyland Resort!

Dream Along with Mickey

Hiya!!! You know you missed me right, right? It is Anonymouse you favorite neighborhood gossip columnist.

If you are into the shows at Disney World then you may have seen or heard of the “Dream Along with Mickey” stage show over at my favorite park, Magic Kingdom. It is really cute, but everything at Disney is. Anyway a friend of a friend told me that this show might go bye-bye as of July 19th. It is said that this is being done in order to accommodate further construction at the hub. Speaking of that have you seen the updates? They are amazing! Anyway back to the topic at hand, the show was supposed to return in August but that might not happen now.

I think the show is cute yet kinda dated. I am sure they will replace it with something even more magical!

What do you think?

Avengers: Age of Ultron Movie Review

Avengers poster

The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie preview held on Tuesday night at the Hollywood Arc movie theatres was standing room only.  The theatre full of Marvel fans had an air of anticipation that only a Marvel movie event can bring.

From the start Avengers: Age of Ultron provided non stop action.  The first scenes start off with an epic battle  showcasing our super heroes incredible powers and skills.  Along with the six Avengers , we also have War Machine, Nick Fury and the Falcon, and twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver – best described as “he’s fast, she’s weird” and last but not least Vision.    Joining the unique group is Ultron – a super smart, mostly indestructible robot who has short circuited and is now on a mission to wipe out the world.

Josh Whedon has once again brought us an action packed movie with humor and one-liners that we have come to expect from the Marvel movies. I was happy to see that several characters received a bit more attention and although it was an emotional moment here and there, it made the film so much better for me.   Seeing Black Widow, Hawkeye and Hulk in vulnerable scenes, will tug at even the strongest fan’s heartstrings.

While the storyline is standard Marvel superheroes fighting their way to justice, Avengers: Age of Ultron had a few surprises up their sleeves.   The main story line has Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) trying to control artificial intelligence.   Along comes Ultron (played by James Spader) a scary and unstoppable robot with a comedic side that makes you laugh out loud.  Ultron will give the heroes plenty of opportunity to show off their skills.  The substory lines give us a look into some of the personal lives of characters and their vulnerabilities.

Starting out as arch rivals, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and twin brother, Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) are later welcomed into the Avengers team and come through in an action packed scene that left me glued to my seat in disbelief.

Avengers: Age of Ultron delivers in every scene, from the funny one liners to the incredible teamwork, as well as some unexpected personal moments that bring a better understanding and emotional depth to several characters.   It is not without surprises and for me, a few heart tugging scenes here and there especially with one of my favorite characters, Hulk.

Although not a huge Marvel fan when I started as Entertainment Writer for Chip and Co.  with each Marvel film I review, my addiction and admiration grows and I find myself  waiting anxiously for the next release with excitement and anticipation that only a fan can feel.

Don’t miss Avengers: Age of Ultron in theatres, May 1, 2015.  Arrive early and stay through to the end of the film credits for a surprise sneak peek from a familiar face.

Check out what the cast had to say in the press conference article on  chipandco.com and meet me at the movies!

Avengers Age of Ultron

The cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron including Scarlett Johansson. Joss Whedon. Elizabeth Olsen. James Spader. Mark Ruffalo. Chris Hemsworth. Robert Downey Jr. Chris Evans. Jeremy Renner. Paul Bettany. Cobie Smulders. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Mr. Kevin Feige came together for a press conference to promote their upcoming new Marvel Film in theatres, May 1, 2015.

The round of questions began with Cobie Smulders who was asked about the changes her character went through in Captain America and what we will see in Age of Ultron .  Cobie shared that Maria Hill is now under the employment of Tony Stark and working private security now.

Paul Bettany was up next and talked about what it felt like to be more than just a voice in Age of Ultron.  Paul joked saying although it was great to be able to work with all the incredibly creative and talented people, the negative side was  having to attend junkets (guess he did not want to be there).

For Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson who play twins with a unique chemistry  were asked whether having previously worked together was an advantage or disadvantage?  Both felt it was an advantage because joining such a big ensemble and cast made it easier having someone you were comfortable with.

Robert Downey Jr. came next and joked about the fact he was not asked the first question.   His question was about the fatherly side, Tony Stark shows in the movie, specifically taking care of Hulk.   Downey Jr. shared that Joss had created some great new situations for Tony Stark.

Question for Joss and Kevin was , how much impact did Avengers:  Age of Ulron have on the phase 2 movies coming our way – Ivon Man 2, Thor 2, Captain America 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Kevin Feige replied that “A lot of those were already in the works. I mean, Iron Man 3 and Cap 2 and Thor 2 were already in the works just as Avengers was coming out. I would say it was more about how those movies were impacted by the first Avengers film,

The press conference wrapped up with Kevin Feige giving us a a bit of information in that as they were putting together the other Phase 2 movies,  Hulk and Hawkeye would be two characters that hadn’t, you know, gotten much exposure in between the movies, ‘cause he said he had very big plans for the two of those characters in this one.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theatres, May 1, 2015 and is going to be an amazing adventure.  Don’t miss the premiere and join me at the movies this Friday.
