The finest hours poster

The debut of the upcoming Walt Disney Studios movie “The Finest Hours” trailer this Wednesday,  July 8th at 9:00 am PST on http://www.facebook.com/thefinesthoursmovie and again during its broadcast debut at 10 pm EST on the Discovery Channel brings together a star-studded cast and an edge of your seat, nail biting story.

Starring Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz and Eric Bana.  Director, Craig Gillespie and Producers, Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero, bring us the story of one of the most dramatic true story rescues in the history of the coast guard.

Presented in Digital 3D and IMAX® 3D, “The Finest Hours” will take the audience up close and into the adventures.  The small boat rescue is based on the history making efforts of 4 members of the coast guard who set off in a wooden lifeboat on February 18, 1952, to rescue 30 sailors who were trapped inside the stern of the rapidly sinking, SS Pendleton.  The T-2 Tanker was on its way to Boston when it was ripped in half during a massive nor’easter storm off the coast of New England. Facing death, freezing temperatures, 60-ft waves and hurricane-force winds, the men must all work together to get through one of the worst storms to hit the East Coast.

“The Finest Hours” hits U.S. theaters on January 29, 2016 in Digital 3D and IMAX® 3D.  This one is going to move to the top of my must see list.   Will it make your list?

Bill

The statue of Comedian Bill Cosby has been removed from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A Disney spokesman confirmed early Wednesday that it was removed when the park closed on Tuesday night. The Hall of Fame area is where Disney pays tribute to the Golden Age of television.

The removal comes after the Associated Press obtained court documents from 2005 where he admitted to obtaining drugs with the intent of giving them to women with whom he planned to have sex with.

“Especially now that a document has been released where he has admitted to it, I don’t think that someone like that should be placed on a pedestal, especially where people bring their families,” Brittany Gavrilova told news station WESH.

Gavrilova had posted a petition on Change.org several months ago calling for the bust’s removal.

Cosby has never been criminally charged in connection with the accusations.

Top 10 Ways a Disney Vacation Tops a Beach Vacation

P1190603
P1190603

CBR

There is a reason Disney is called the Happiest Place on Earth, and not the Outer Banks or Myrtle Beach.  Everyone has a different reason why they love taking their family to Disney, but these are our Top 10 reasons Disney vacations are better than beach vacations:

10. No rental car or taxi needed- Even when we drove, we didn’t use our car once at Disney World! You don’t need to. Between the motorcoaches, Monorail, and ferry boats, you can get anywhere you want and not have to worry about traffic or parking fees. Magical Express is the free bus between the airport and your Resort. They even handle your luggage for you too.

9. On-site Childcare- Whether you want to use an in-room sitter through the Disney recommended Kids Nite Out, or let your kids play for a few hours in one of the Resort Kids Clubs, adults have the option to go out for dinner or to a Park without them.  We have used Kids Nite Out before and had a great experience. Email me if you have any questions or go to Kidsniteout.com

8. Costs the same or less- Disney has accommodations and packages for all budgets and family sizes. Some believe that a Disney World Vacation will break the bank. If you are interested in a free price quote, please email me at [email protected] and we can talk about what would work for your budget. A beach vacation, especially at a resort can be very expensive. With Disney World,  you can opt for an all-inclusive package that comes with tickets and the Disney Dining Plan.

7.  You will never be bored- With 4 Parks (Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot and Animal Kingdom) You will have at least 4 full days of rides, shows, and amazing attractions to discover. You will never hear your kids complain that they are bored.  Too scared to swim in the ocean (yes) but love the waves? Check out the 2 awesome water parks at Disney, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Both have enormous wave pools that are JUST as fun, yet safer, than the ocean. Still bored? Check out my article HERE to see other activities such as golf, horseback riding, bass fishing, parasailing, and jet skiing.

6. Everything is close- You don’t need to rent a car or take time out of your vacation driving somewhere out-of-the-way to find an amazing selection of restaurants, bars, clubs and stores. Disney Springs has everything you need and if you can’t find it there you can find it at one of the Disney resorts.  Tricia Kohler at World of Magic Travel suggests trying one of the award-winning spas at the Grand Floridian Resort or Saratoga Springs Resort if a relaxing and rejuvenating vacation is what you’re looking for.

5. Small Down Payment- You don’t have to drop thousands of dollars to book your package. It only requires a $200 deposit to reserve your magical vacation at Walt Disney World! The rest can be paid off closer to travel. Typically, for a beach house or resort, you have to pay  in full when you book. I can you book your room 499 days prior to travel, so you have plenty of time to pay it off. For more info, email me at [email protected]

4. Free Events- Disney World offers fun & free events like nowhere else! Alissa Overholt, from World of Magic Travel suggests going during one of the free annual events at Epcot, such as the International Food & Wine Festival in the Fall, or the Flower & Garden Festival in the Spring.  Star Wars Weekends at Hollywood Studios is one of the most fun events at Disney World!

3. Disney is Magical- You won’t find the customer service and family friendly atmosphere like at Disney anywhere else! Cast Members and Concierge will go above and beyond to make your stay exceptionally magical. If you need directions, advice, a stroller, a babysitter, or even groceries delivered to your room, that is covered at Disney.

2. Weather Can’t Ruin the Fun- If it rains during your beach vacation, you just lost a lot of money. If it rains during your Disney vacation, you grab a poncho and head for the indoor rides! (Which is 80% of the rides and shows at Disney)… and the Parks never close for bad weather! You can ride Pirates of the Caribbean, or watch Beauty and the Beast Live in the rain, you cant do much inside at a beach house.

1. You can still make it “Beachy”-  Love the sand and the palm trees? There’s a resort for you! Well 3 actually; Caribbean Beach Resort with white sand, hammocks, and a breezy island feel, or the Polynesian Village Resort and Bungalows for a Hawaiian feel, featuring a Luau dinner show, a volcano pool and luxurious accommodations. For an authentic Cape Cod beach town feel, stay at The Beach Club Resort; the pool has real sand underfoot!  Typhoon Lagoon is like visiting a tropical island as well. There are sandy beaches, lounge chairs and palm trees. You can even hear the waves crashing on the beach.

Can’t decide between the beach and the Disney feel? How about Disney’s Vero Beach Resort! Just 2 hours southeast of Walt Disney World Resort, this elegant old-fashioned hideaway is located on Florida’s scenic Atlantic Treasure Coast near the charming community of Vero Beach with rooms starting at just $198/night! They offer a child center, sea turtle watching, and a spa.

Frozen Summer Fun

Hiya boys and girls! How is everyone? Better now that you are reading this right? We all know that Frozen is insanely popular and Disney milking the Frozen phenomenon for all they can get out of it. I must admit I do love Frozen! Olaf is the best! A little mouse told me that the Frozen Summer Fun Event over at Hollywood Studios might soon be getting a make over.

There are no details yet but Disney is looking into improving things, as they always are.  It seems as though there might be adding Elsa and Anna make overs to the Frozen fun. This might not start until Mid July, so pretty soon! Disney is said to be looking for Fairy Godmothers in training. Sounds exciting!

Remember nothing is official yet. As soon we know you will know!

Am I the only one who wishes they would do these make overs for adults too?

Anywho, this all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my Facebook page

SeaWorld’s Top 5 Things to Know About Training Sharks

SeaWorld cares
SeaWorld cares

SeaWorld cares

Did you know that it’s possible to train sharks? The expert aquarists at SeaWorld and Discovery Cove in Orlando have done just that. They have learned that sharks have unique behavioral traits and that training them takes patience. Training allows veterinarians and aquarists to provide hands-on care to the animals and also enables guests to interact with the sharks up close.

Their aquarists share the top five facts they’ve learned in training sharks:

1) It takes time. Training a shark takes a great deal of patience. Aquarists use positive reinforcement only, including treats such as trout, salmon and clams. But because sharks are cold-blooded and some can be sedentary, they don’t eat much…or often. So, opportunities to reinforce them with food occur much less frequently than with other animals.

2) They can train to targets. Aquarists use a technique called “target training” to train sharks to follow a target. This allows the aquarists to direct animals to key locations in their environment. The team can then interact with the sharks to monitor their health and also provide guests a closer look.

3) They play favorites. Our aquarists have found each shark responds differently to training. Some sharks are very relaxed when held a certain way, and some sharks show a preference for certain aquarists.

4) They can be picky eaters. Sharks tend to be finicky about their food, which affects the way the animals interact during a training session. Sharks have individually discerning tastes. Some gobble up salmon and trout, but take a pass on squid and mackerel.

5) Personalities come into play. Aquarists see personality traits heighten during training sessions. For example, male zebra sharks have been known to compete with one another for the aquarist’s attention. If one is interacting with the aquarist, others are likely to swim over and push their way in. Blacktip and whitetip sharks are especially playful and curious, and like to move around and dig in the sand in their environments. Some even like sand sprinkled on their backs.

Beat the Summer Heat with these Frozen Treats at Walt Disney World Resort

Ice

Celebrate National Ice Cream Month throughout July at the Walt Disney World Resort! Nothing tastes better than a delectable frozen treat while exploring the parks during the “Coolest Summer Ever.” With an abundance of food and beverage locations serving ice cream snacks across property, these are a few of the must-try chilled treats at Walt Disney World this summer.

Magic Kingdom

While strolling down Main Street U.S.A., the smell of freshly baked waffle cones wafts through the air. Follow the delicious scent and you will find the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. This is the home of many delectable ice cream delicacies, but one in particular takes the top scoop – the ice cream cookie sandwich. Two freshly baked chocolate chip cookies served with your choice of hand-scooped ice cream in the middle, creating the sweetest sandwich you will ever taste!

The other must-stop shop at Magic Kingdom is Aloha Isle, home of the legendary Dole Whip. This scrumptious soft-serve delight is a refreshing frozen treat blended in pineapple, vanilla or swirled flavors. For the more exotic palettes, try the Pineapple Dole Whip Float with Dole Pineapple Juice, as it will surely make you dole out a smile! Dole Whip also can be found at Pineapple Lanai at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Epcot

Ciao, gelato! Experience the sweet indulgence of Italian gelato at Gelati, the delectable dessert kiosk at the Epcot World Showcase Italy Pavilion. With a variety of tempting gelato flavors and ice cream specialties, the possibilities are endless. One of the fanciful “Gelato Creations” is the Coppa Amicizia, a blend of cookies and cream, strawberry, Fior di Latte (milk-flavored gelato), strawberry sauce, whole strawberries and whipped cream.

Fresh brioche bread and chilled ice cream – two of the world’s most delightful delicacies. L’Artisan des Glaces at Epcot’s France Pavilion combines these two treats into a heavenly combination with its Croque Glacé. Choose any one of this authentic French ice cream shop’s unique flavors, perhaps the coco-white chocolate ice cream, before it is sealed in a warm brioche with rich chocolate or raspberry sauce. This ice cream pastry is inspired by the tastes of Paris and will have guests saying “Bonjour!”

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Still have a passion for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Have no shame because this special Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake at 50’s Prime Time Café will help rekindle that passion for peanut butter and relive those tasty childhood memories. The ingredients are simple – peanut butter and jelly with milk and ice cream – but the flavor is indescribably bold and indulgently satisfying.

What is the last shop seen before and the first thing thought of after falling down an elevator shaft? That would be the delicious treats at Hollywood Scoops, the ice cream kiosk near The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. But not just any ice cream treat will do – Apple Crisp à la Mode is the must-try delight. This cinnamon apple dessert topped with old-fashioned vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and streusel is a perfect way to conclude a haunted stay at The Hollywood Hotel.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

In the heart of Harambe Village is the home of Tamu Tamu Refreshments, where hungry travelers can find unique frozen treats and refreshments for even the wildest of safaris. The most popular treat is the Pineapple Whip Soft-serve with Coconut or Dark Rum, a truly tantalizing tropical treat.

An old-fashioned root beer float is a classic ice cream novelty and a fantastic way to beat the heat. Try one of the soft-serve soda floats from the Anandapur Ice Cream Truck while trekking through Asia at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Downtown Disney

Strike gold with the Gold Rush ice cream sundae at the Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop. It starts with a fresh waffle cone hand-dipped in rich Ghirardelli chocolate, filled with vanilla ice cream, and then covered in homemade hot fudge and peanut butter, whipped cream, chopped almonds, a cherry, and a Ghirardelli SQUARES Milk Chocolate. For those with a taste for milkshakes, the Sea Salt Caramel Banana Quake Shake is also an enticing option at this amazing ice cream haven.

For a photo-worthy, gargantuan treat, nothing tops the Gibsons S’mores Baked Alaska at The BOATHOUSE. This unbelievably sweet and visually breathtaking dessert is made with Häagan-Dazs rocky road ice cream, cascaded in marshmallow, then toasted with pieces of rich dark chocolate surrounding the outside. This is a four-person dessert, so be prepared for a larger-than-life serving.

Ever dreamed of traveling to Italy? Good news – there is no need to venture across the globe to taste the delicious flavors of Florence thanks to the new Vivoli Gelateria in Downtown Disney. This family-run shop was founded in 1932 in Florence, which means the flavors have been mastered to perfection. One of the guest favorites is the Caramello Salato, or salted caramel. Made with fresh, top-quality ingredients, this flavorful treat is adorned with a soft ribbon of caramel flavor, complete with crunchy salted caramel bits. For chocolate enthusiasts, the classic Cioccolato chocolate gelato will certainly satisfy any sweet tooth!

Disney’s Water Parks

Imagine a bright green sand pail and try to keep from smiling. Now picture a bright green sand pail filled to the brim with chocolate and vanilla soft-serve ice cream, waffle cone pieces, cookie pieces, hot fudge, caramel, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. And don’t forget the sprinkles! This sunny snack can be found at Happy Landings Ice Cream at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and at I.C. Expeditions at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Walt Disney World Resort Hotels

“Everything but the kitchen sink.” Well this massive ice cream treat includes that, too. The Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a one-of-a-kind ice cream challenge with eight scoops of ice cream, every topping in the house, and a whole can of whipped cream. This dessert serves four people with an appetite, so bring family and friends and get those spoons in the air – it’s going to get a little sticky!

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts

Mickey Premium Bars are the classic Walt Disney World ice cream novelty treat and can be found at many food and beverage locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort, including many quick service restaurants and snack carts in both the theme parks and resort hotels. Alongside the Mickey Premium Bar is a delicious gluten-free frozen fruit bar so that all guests can enjoy a frozen treat while celebrating the “Coolest Summer Ever.”

Select ice cream treats can be purchased using the Disney Dining Plans. For more information, visit DisneyWorld.com/DisneyDiningPlan.
