Ant Man Poster

The latest release in the long list of upcoming Marvel Movies brings us Ant Man.  One of the founding members of The Avengers, Ant Man has the ability to alter his size (shrink) while gaining strength.   A lethal combination that in the wrong hands could prove deadly.   Marvel Studios brings us Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, the original Ant Man who has developed not only a suit and serum but also has added the ability to control ants.  This scientific breakthrough has been kept secret by Dr. Pym, but in Ant Man we see, Dr. Pym’s protogee, Darren Cross perfecting the serum and a suit of his own.   Bringing Dr. Pym out of retirement and recruiting Scott Lang as the new Ant Man.  Trained and ready to go, Ant Man and Dr. Pym together with a team of ex-cons and Pym’s estranged daughter, Hope, risk everything to pull off the heist of the century.

Director Peyton Reed  a lifelong fan of Marvel films and comics shared “Ant-Man is one of the original Avengers that people seem to have forgotten about.  By bringing Ant-Man to the screen, they also bring a great mentor-pupil dynamic team with Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.   Producer, Kevin Feige said, Peyton was “high on the list and Feige thought he would be great for this film”

Casting Ant-Man had to be done with someone who would embody the themes – fatherhood, mentorship and abandonment which all play a huge part in the relationships of he lead characters.    Casting Paul Rudd in the lead role was exciting for Peyton Reed.  “nobody more likeable” and “an amazing actor.” were phrases used to describe Rudd.   With Dr. Hank Pym, the filmmakers were thrilled to get veteran actor, Michael Douglas.   As the “guy in control” Douglas “really takes it to another level and gives it the gravitas that we wanted.”  Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope, Pym’s estranged daughter shared how she loved one of the main themes of the movie being the father / daughter struggles that were prevelent in the movie.   “There’s a feeling of rejection from her dad, as well as the tragic losses she’s experienced in her life.”  Corey Stoll is Darren Cross / Yellowjacket.  As Pym’s original protégé., he has been around to see all the amazing work Pym Technologies has developed, but while Dr. Pym is a good guy, Cross is part of the dark side.   Former cellmate Luis, played by Michael Peña is my favorite character in Ant Man.   Luis is a good friend but still has not shaken that dream of scoring the big heist.  One of the movie themes is “when people believe in you, it inspires you to do the right thing.”    This is the Luis and as Producer Kevin Feige relates there is more to Luis than meets the eye. “Says Feige. “He’s a lot of fun and provides what you think is some of the best comic relief of the movie. But over the course of the film, by the end, you see him step into this role of heroism.”

Filmed mostly in Atlanta, production actually kicked off in San Francisco, which serve as the backdrop.  San Francisco and its Silicon Valley seemed the perfect fit to showcase Pym Technologies.  Plus it allowed the crew to shoot a city that has not bee showcased in Marvel films.  From San Francisco, production went to Pinewood Studios’ newly built facilities in Atlanta where Marvel’s “Ant-Man” became the very first movie to film there, as well as the first time, Rudd wears the suit.  “When Paul first walked on set in the Ant-Man suit, I said to myself, and I’m biased, but I think it’s the most badass suit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” declares director Peyton Reed.

In discussing the changes Ant Man goes through, the film makers created an immersive experience so we can feel we are to scale in the large and small world. Paul Rudd also thinks the film will surprise on several different fronts. “One of the things I like about this movie is that it’s not an easy one to put into a box; it’s not a straight up comedy, it’s not a straight action movie, but there are plenty of both,” says the actor. “The characters are also going through what I think are very relatable and familial struggles. Paul Rudd goes on to say how he thinks the “audiences will really connect with the characters in the film.” Evangeline Lilly sums it all up, “Ant-Man is really fresh and new and is something that we’ve not seen at all in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before. It’s going to have its own life and its own fan base. Even if there were no Marvel films that existed today and this film came into the movie theaters, it would still be a smash hit. It has it all—great characters, great action, fun adventure…and who just doesn’t love all those amazing ants?”

Are you ready for the premiere of Ant-Man on July 17, 2015?

Victoria & Albert’s just keeps raising the bar. Not only are they the only AAA Five Diamond Restaurant in Central Florida, but they are located in one of the most beautiful resorts, the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

They are now adding a new Chef’s Degustation Menu. That will include a series of 10 small courses featuring some of Chef Scott Hunnel’s favorite dishes inspired by the seasons and by his time in Asia, Spain, Italy and France. There will be other additions to the 10 course meal, like a cheese trolley, tableside butter carving and a custom chocolate box for selecting post-prandial sweets.

The 7 course Chef’s Tasting Menu will stay.

There are some other changes on the horizon for the award winning restaurant. They will focus a bit more on food-and-wine pairings in the Queen Victoria Room. Guests will be offered Chef Hunnel’s 10-course menu paired with exclusive wines from Victoria & Albert’s wine cellar. “The wine pairings will be exclusive to the private room, and we want to enlighten our guests about how the chef and sommelier work together to perfectly pair food and drink,” says Perez.

“Diners now have a choice of three distinct dining experiences with food-and-wine pairings in Queen Victoria Room, two menus in the main dining room and the Chef’s Table in the kitchen,” says Perez. “Whichever they choose, they will enjoy the finest quality ingredients and impeccable service.”

Looks so good!

The seven-course menu is $185 ($250 with wine pairings); the 10-course menu is $235 ($340 with wine pairings). Dinner in the Queen Victoria Room is $340, and includes 10 courses paired with wine. The Chef’s Table in the kitchen is $250. The restaurant is open daily for dinner. For reservations, call 407-939-3862.

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Today the Walt Disney World Resort announced that 4 new food and beverage marketplaces will open in Future World during the 20th Epcot International Food & Wine Festival presented by Chase Sept. 25-Nov. 16, 2015. It’s the first time in the festival’s 20-year-history that global marketplace experiences, now numbering more than 30, have expanded from the park’s World Showcase into Future World.

During the 53-day festival, the new Artistry of Wine & Cheese area featuring the Cheese Studio and Wine Studio marketplaces will evoke the ambiance of Napa Valley with grape vines and welcoming pergolas along the walkway to Future World West.

At the Cheese Studio, a cheese sample platter will be served on an artist’s palette to pair with wines.
The Wine Studio will serve premium wines on tap and showcase palate-pleasing wine varietals organized by color in artful displays.

At the new Next Eats area near the Epcot Character Spot, Sustainable Chew and Chew Lab marketplaces will be inspired by ABC’s Emmy-Award winning lifestyle series “The Chew,” starring co-hosts Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz. “The Chew” announced July 2 that the show will broadcast from Epcot during the festival.

At Sustainable Chew Marketplace, guests can taste delicious dishes inspired by “The Chew” co-hosts.
At Chew Lab, food science meets the hottest culinary tech trends to present innovative dishes like the Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey Caramel.

“The Future World festival marketplace expansion gives our guests more reasons than ever to help us celebrate 20 delicious festival years,” says Jens Dahlmann, general manager of Epcot Food & Beverage. “Adding even more sizzle, our collaboration with ABC’s ‘The Chew’ brings the cachet of a major daytime network television series and its celebrity hosts.”

More news to celebrate:

One of a series of popular Party for the Senses premium events will be the first-time Yelloween Masquerade Party for the Senses Oct. 31, an elegant, dance-the-night-away, gourmet tasting party with Champagne, wine, craft beers and specialty cocktails paired with food. Guests will be encouraged to masquerade in chic yellow and black. Reservations will open July 30, 2015, for festival premium events also to include the Mexican Tequila Lunch, Japanese Craft Beer Tasting, French Family Meal Traditions and dozens of events including Culinary Adventures in Signature Dining.

“The Chew” cast will host a new premium event: the Rockin’ Burger Block Party Oct. 8, with specialty burgers and sliders inspired by top names in the music industry such as Dave Matthews and his Dreaming Tree Wines and Carlos Santana’s Casa Noble Tequila. Two additional Burger Block Parties are set for Sept. 25 and Nov. 6.

The Dominican Republic Marketplace will return with fresh flair, serving new dishes including Pescado con Coco – seared grouper, pigeon peas with rice and coconut sauce. And at the Festival Center, the new Monday-through-Thursday “Spotlight on Dominican Republic” will showcase the country’s culture, crafts and culinary delights with artists and chefs at the Festival Center.

Two 20th-year celebratory wines were created just for this fall’s festival: a Napa Valley Festival Chardonnay and a Paso Robles Festival Cabernet Sauvignon. Guests will be able to purchase tastes of both wines at the Sustainable Chew marketplace, and the Festival Center Wine Shop will carry bottles.

At the new Artistry of Wine & Cheese, each keg of premium wine on tap will hold the equivalent of 26 wine bottles, eliminating bottle, cork, cardboard and paper waste from labels. Recycling and repurposing of glass bottles and corks from other marketplace locations will be part of the 20th-year festival story.

Included with Epcot Admission:

Back to Basics series, Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog, special book signings, Eat to the Beat concerts, cultural adventures, Marketplace Discovery Passport and attractions and park entertainment are included with regular Epcot admission.

Special Programming by Reservation:

The Party for the Senses grand tasting events, and other special beverage and culinary programs require reservations and separate event admission. Reservations will open July 30, 2015, for all premium events including the new Rockin’ Burger Block Party. Guests can call 407/WDW-FEST (939-3378) and get details at epcotfoodfestival.com beginning July 15.

Sounds good right?

The Top 5 Dining Reservations And How To Book Them For Your Family

Be Our Guest

When you have the Disney Dining Plan at Walt Disney World many times you want a certain reservation!  Many of these reservations are very difficult to come by.  Let’s take a look at some of the hardest reservations to get and talk about how we can get them for you and  your family!

5.  Chef Mickey’s at The Contemporary Resort:  This beloved restaurant is one that families adore!  Here you have the opportunity to dine with none other then, the Big Cheese himself, Mickey Mouse!  This is an advanced dining reservation that fills up super fast!  If you can not snag a dinner reservation be sure to check out breakfast or even an add on brunch menu at certain times of the year!  Be sure to know ahead of time the characters your child / children wish to see.  If this is booked up, check out various other character locations!  Tusker House at Animal Kingdom has a wonderful breakfast with Mickey Mouse and friends!

4.  The California Grill at The Contemporary Resort:  This resort offers the finest in cuisine!  Here you can watch “Wishes” fireworks while dining from an exquisite menu!  It can be difficult to time this reservation perfectly! Everyone loves to have dinner and watch the fireworks!  Right?!  If you can not land this reservation at the exact time you would like, be sure to grab another time and return later for the fireworks!  Just present your receipt to the host or hostess of the restaurant and they will allow you access to the restaurant for the viewing of Wishes!

via napoli (2)

3.  Via Napoli in Epcot: This reservation tends to be a challenge to many people!  This restaurant offers amazing pizza and Italian cuisine!  Who does not love pizza?!  You can imagine how immensely popular it is here!  If you can not find the lunch or dinner time seating you would like be sure to check for a mid day seating!  Sometimes these pop up!

Cinderella's Royal Table (2)

2. Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom:  Everyone wants to eat in the castle!  This famous castle is very difficult to get into and requires dining reservations 180 days in advance!  It is extremely popular for all ages!  The magnificence of the castle is breathtaking and the service is spectacular!  Princesses visit your table as you dine in elegance!  This is a reservation that tends to sell out most days within 15 minutes or less.  You want to be prepared with options!  Be ready to make your reservation online at your 180 day mark, online at 6am Eastern Time (Cinderella’s Castle Time).  Other locations are 1900 Park Fare Dinner at the Grand Floridian.  Here you can dine with Cinderella, Prince Charming and the evil step sisters.  Akershus in Epcot is  another restaurant to dine with the princesses.  Character availability is subject to change.

1.  Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom:  This restaurant has brought about a dining frenzy when it comes to reservations!  These reservations are so difficult to land for your family even at thee 180 day mark!  Dinner is currently considered a table service.  Dinner also allows you to meet The Beast.  If dinner is unavailable, be sure to check for lunch reservations.  Yes, I did say lunch reservations.  Lunch is considered a quick service entitlement but still allows you to dine in the mysterious yet elegant castle.  You can still explore all three rooms in the castle as well! Recently Be Our Guest has been opening up breakfast reservations.  Be sure to check into this option as well!  You might be surprised at the availability when you choose a different time of the day!

Some quick tips for landing you favorite or top choice dining reservations:

  • Be sure to book your reservations 180 days in advance.  You can book 180 days plus 10 if you have a current Walt Disney World reservation!  🙂  Be sure to get your vacation package booked well in advance to take advantage of this benefit.  Online reservations open up at 6am and the phone lines open at 7am Cinderella’s Castle time!
  • Be sure to look at the placement of your dining.  By this I mean, if you wish to eat at Be Our Guest, try to plan this for later in your trip.  A lot of times I can land this reservations for my clients if we plan it for the last evening!  It really has worked numerous times!
  • Be flexible.  Have a few different times in mind in case the time you would like in unavailable.  You should also have an alternative dining location in mind!
  • Keep checking!  Many times you may find your choice is booked.  The availability changes on a daily basis.  Be patient and continue to check!  I have found reservations three days prior to arrival before!  With some pixie dust it can happen!

Happy Planning!

Disneyland Pledges Big Expansion to Avoid Admissions Tax

IMAG1636

DL

This week the Anaheim City Council moved to extend an admissions tax ban to the Walt Disney Co. in exchange for a billion-dollar expansion pledge. The City Council approved a 30-year entertainment tax exemption for Disney.

Disney is required to begin construction by the end of 2017 and finish within 7 years. There are no details as to what this billion-dollar project may include, but it promises to create 1,400 jobs and bring an additional $15 million in annual city tax revenue.

If Disney fails to meet the requirements of the deal, the tax exemption will expire. It could also be extended again if Disney continues to expand.

I’m excited to see what the Walt Disney Co. has planned for Disneyland over the coming years!

Transgender Women Files Lawsuit Against The Swan and Dolphin Resort

Transgender Women sues Swan and Dolphin

Gina Versace is a transgender woman who was employed by Starwood Hotels, which owns The Swan and Dolphin Resort, is now suing them because she claims that they discriminated against her. She has hired the well known Orlando law firm of Morgan & Morgan to represent her in her wrongful termination lawsuit.

She was hired in 1998 as a banquet server, she was hired as a man. In 2005 she changed her gender identity and that is when she claims the discrimination started. She claims hurtful comments were made and she was continually refereed to as he and not she in front of guests and co-workers, even though she produced documents proving her official and legal change. She says they cut her hours and punished her unfairly for taking breaks that she was entitled to. She also claims that newly hired employees were given more opportunities than her even though she had much more experience. She was eventually fired in 2013 and has had a hard time finding work since then.

She said part of the reason she is coming out with this now is because of the recent coverage of Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox. She said that she wants to help others who might have had the same issues and might not know that the there are laws to protect them from this kind of discrimination.

Both the Florida Commission on Human Relations and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration dismissed a complaint from Versace in 2013.

The case is going to trial in 2016.

Deluxe Dining Plan Will Still Include an Appetizer with Table Service Meals

2015 05 15 18.04.33

WDW

Anonymouse recently let us know that there might be some changes coming to the Deluxe Dining Plan!  It seems that the appetizer was being removed from Table Service meals.  This looked to be a confirmed rumor when the 2016 Deluxe Dining Plan PDF showed up online recently.  The appetizer is a big draw for a lot of people so there were certainly some disappointment across the Disney fan community!

We have recently learned via Disney’s Guest Services that the omission of the appetizer from the 2016 Deluxe Dining Plan was ACCIDENTAL!

Yep, you heard it here.  The appetizer will still be included for table service meals under the Deluxe Dining Plan.

As of June 24th Disney’s Guest Services has an email asking that the online documents be corrected and the appetizer (which was accidentally omitted originally) be added back to the documentation.

I don’t know about you, but this makes me really happy!  While change is to be expected, this one was definitely harder to swallow than some.  I’m so glad this was just a small error on the Disney documents and that it will be corrected!

Now I won’t totally rest easy until I see it on the official Disney documents but I feel pretty confident in the information I was given!

Thinking of visiting Walt Disney World and wondering if the Dining Plan is right for you?  Let me help you plan your dream vacation and we can look at all of your dining options! I love Once Upon a Time! If you have not watched it I strongly recommend it. Finally, Princess Merida will join the cast of Once Upon a Time. The actress name is Amy Manson. It is not known yet what her story line will be but we do know she will be in it. She is not new to the acting game, she has been in Atlantis, Misfits, and the film Not Another Happy Ending.

Check out the preview:

No official images have been released but she did tweet the above pic, so maybe that is what she may look like in her new role.

Disney World Will No Longer Serve Cheese Sauce

2011 09 20 11 50 28 71

Casey's Hot Dogs

This is horrible news for those of us that LOVE cheese sauce. Anonymouse hit the nail on the head yet again. Sadly, the magical cheese sauce that we all know and love is officially gone! It was confirmed by a cast member that as of today they are no longer allowed to serve cheese sauce. So your nachos or chili cheese dogs will now be served with shredded cheese. As far we know this will be occurring at all parks and resorts and you can not ask the cast members for that liquid gold either.

I know it is frustrating to not be able to get something that you love, but let’s remember not to take our frustration out on the cast members. They are just the messenger and do not make the policies. As a former cast member I can tell you they work very hard for very little. They often go above and beyond with no expectations other than to make your vacation more magical.

This is very disappointing. Share your thoughts?
