Ant-Man’s Magic Number Is $58 Million

Ant Man 7

The latest Marvel movie premiering in theatres this weekend, Ant-Man continued the trend of placing first in the numbers game during the opening weekend for the Disney / Marvel Studios.   For Ant-Man that magic number was $58 million.    Although the film did not meet the studio’s expectations of $60 million or more,  Disney’s Distribution Chief, Dave Hollis said “no one else could take what is really an obsure character and launch it in such a big way.”  At the cost of $130 million,  Ant-Man hopes to make up the U.S. numbers with profits from the foreign moviegoers. Opening in 37 countries including Mexico, France, Russia and the U.K. Ant-Man brought in $56 million in foreign profits.

Ant-Man which stars Paul Rudd brings us one of the original Avengers, who with the help of a super suit, shrinks in size while gaining strength and the ability to control ants.   The film has a bit of everything this Entertainment writer likes about Marvel films.   A super hero, great soundtrack, funny moments, adventures and incredible battles between the good and bad guys makes Ant-Man one of Marvel’s great films.

Happy Birthday, Disneyland!

20150717 1539591

Disneyland 60th bday

Disneyland celebrated its 60th birthday this past weekend!  As a Disney Addict and Entertainment Writer for Chipandco.com, I could not miss a visit to the “Happiest Place on Earth” to be a part of the celebrations.  Join me on my amazing magical adventure!

Grabbing my Disney 60th Anniversay Dooney & Bourke (souvenir from the 24hr event) full of extra battery packs, cords and of course, my AP and Disney Credit Card, I headed out at 5:30 am to ensure I made Rope Drop.  Arriving at the Toy Story Parking lot, I secured my spot and joined my buddy, Robbie Bulus.   At the entrance to the park, we were surprised to see the OC Registrar handing out newspapers full of articles from the opening day events.   Once through the ticket stalls, we picked up a few of the commemorative maps and a button (one per person please).  The excitement could be felt as we headed down Main Street.   First stop inside the emporium to check out any new merchandise.   There were a few items available, a cinch bag with a t-shirt for $29.00 and the traditional t-shirts, mugs and pins, but most of the 60th merchandise has been available since the 24 hour event which launched the start of the 60th celebration on May 22, 2015.

Continuing down Main Street we came up to the castle which had a stage set up and a jumbo tron, ready for the dedication ceremony at 10:00 am.   Signs pointed us towards Frontierland, specifically Big Thunder Ranch where Disney members were passing out delicious birthday cupcakes (yes I had a cupcake for breakfast).  Tray after tray of cupcakes were being swooped up by excited guests.   A cast member shared that 130,000 cupcakes had been ordered for guests and 70,00 for cast members to celebrate throughout the day.

Next we decided to check out the newly renovated Peter Pan ride only to discover an 80 minute wait time.  Onward through Fantasyland, we secured a spot in front of the jumbo tron by the Matterhorn ride (my favorite) and set up our equipment to record the cremony dedication.

The ceremony began with a recording of Walt Disney’s opening speech, “To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

President of the Disneyland Resort, Michael Colglazier, thanked the Disney family and introduced, Disney Legend and Academy Award-winning composer Richard M. Sherman and actress and singer Ashley Brown (star of “Mary Poppins” on Broadway).  The Duo performed a flawless rendition of “Feed the Birds” and followed up singing Happy Birthday, along with Disneyland park guests.

Mr. Colglazier also announced Disneyland’s newest campaign “Million Dollar Dazzle”  which will give  $1 million dollars over the next 17 months to local Orange County charitable organizations.    The first recepients were the local chapter of Girl Scouts who received $60,000 grant for all their hard work in the community.

After the ceremony, Robbie and Kim, Tyler, Blake and I headed over to lunch at Carthay Circle where we met my new buddy, Worthy.   Worthy a regular at Disneyland was all blinged out in celebratory flashy jewels from head to toe.    Delicious lunch over, we had to check in with our favorite genie at the Hyperion Theatre, Aladdin show and yes, another cupcake from the neverending trays available.

A bit of window shopping and drooling over new Dooney and Bourke purses, led me to the Disneyland Park just in time to catch the end of the afternoon parade, where special VIP guests, including Michael Schwartner, the first boy through the Disneyland gates in 1955.

As night time approached, and my fellow DAs went home, I decided to spend just “10 more minutes” in the shops.  Four hours later the sound of the Paint the Night parade music dragged me out of the Emporium.   Catching the tail of end the parade, I waved at the window of Walt’s apartment above the fire station and thanked him for another day of magic.   Fifteen and one half hours had come to an end,  tired, sleepy and floating on a cloud of pixie dust, I made my way to my car and began the drive home, dreaming of my next trip.

Loretta Garcia, Entertainment Writer for Chipandco.com bringing you the magic of Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary Celebration.

A Spooktacular Celebration at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

This fall, the Magic Kingdom will be transformed into a home for happy haunts at “Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.” This special ticket event returns this year for 25 nights of boo-tiful festivities at Magic Kingdom park. Guests are invited to dress up in favorite Halloween costumes for this “not-so-scary” occasion, where there is an assortment of trick-or-treat sweets waiting to be found.

Also, for the first time ever, the mischievous Sanderson Sisters from Disney’s Hocus Pocus will throw an evil Halloween party for the “Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular.” This new show is a not-to-be-missed Halloween production and features appearances by Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie, Maleficent and other great Disney villains, along with dancers, projections and special effects. For the fiendish finale, “Happy HalloWishes,” a green and orange fireworks display complete with Disney villains, will creep across the sky.

In addition to trick-or-treating, meet and greets with Disney characters in their festive Halloween costumes and Halloween treats and eats unique to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are available throughout the evening. For guests’ ghostly pleasure, a barbershop quartet of dead cowboys also will be serenading Frontierland with their chilling musical arrangements. Listen if you dare!

Party dates are September: 15, 18, 20, 22, 25 and 27; October: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31; November: 1. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party webpage.

Hangar Bar 2

Downtown Disney gives guests an assortment of options to “eat in style.” World-renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto and the Patina Restaurant Group will open Morimoto Asia, Morimoto’s first Pan-Asian restaurant, at Disney Springs in fall 2015. Morimoto Asia’s culinary elements will provide flavors from across Asia, while exhibition kitchens will showcase the continent’s traditions. Included among them are street-food stalls, Peking duck carving, and dim sum.

Guests with a flair for adventure (even those afraid of snakes) can visit Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in fall 2015. With a storyline centered on the pilot from the “Indiana Jones” films, this aviation- themed lounge will feature unique drinks and small plates. Themed décor like propeller-based ceiling fans, vintage travel posters and correspondence between Jock and Indy will immerse guests in a world of adventure. With a prime location along Lake Buena Vista and seating for 150, the venue is perfect for a sky-high good time.

A new way to get around also will be introduced to Downtown Disney this fall, improving access to the Orange garage. The flyover ramp on Buena Vista Drive will likely open first, with the I-4 slip ramp (with direct access from I-4, connecting near Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park) slated to open in time for the holiday shopping season.

The largest expansion in Downtown Disney history, Disney Springs will provide even more opportunities for guests to relax and enjoy themselves. When completed in 2016, Disney Springs will double the shopping, dining and entertainment experiences, with an eclectic and contemporary mix from Disney and other noteworthy brands.

Hollywood Studios Testing Assigned Seating for Fantasmic!

WDW

Hiya ladies and gents. Yes, it is “I” Anonymouse! I know you only read this blog for my articles. I get it! I only read this blog for my articles too. Today, I have some Hollywood Studios gossip for you. We all know and love Fantasmic, if you have never seen it you must go see it right away!

I have been told by a few of my peeps that Hollywood Studios will be testing out assigned seating for the show. I know it reminds you of school again right? The testing phase is said to begin July 21st and 22nd. This test will give guests assigned seats. On July 23rd and 24th they will test specific rows. On July 27th and 28th they will just test a section in the theater.

Keep in mind during the testing there will be no advance FastPass+ reservations open. Guests will go to a fastpass+ kiosk and that will assign any one of the options I mentioned above depending on what day you are there.

This makes sense because this show is always very popular and people have been known to line up way before the show starts, just to make sure they get a seat. So this will make it so that you can spend your time actually enjoying your very expensive vacation.

Recently they tested food and merchandise delivery to guests once they are seated. So it seems like they really want to make your Fantasmic experience a great one!

Make sure you check out my last amazing article Hollywood & Vine Could Soon Host Minnie’s Holiday and Dine Dinner.

The collection includes colorfully bold apparel, accessories, DIY beauty products, dolls, consumer electronics and more from Hasbro, Jaya, Mad Engine, Innovative Designs, Markwins, KIDdesigns, as well as items from Disney Store.

Most “Descendants” products are available now with additional items setting at mass and specialty retailers nationwide on August 1.

About Descendants
With a knowing wink at traditional fairy tales, Disney’s “Descendants” fuses castles with classrooms to create a contemporary, music-driven story about the challenges adolescent offspring face in living up to parental and peer expectations. With unexpected characterization, plot twists and turns, and dashes of wry humor, the movie is designed to appeal to kids and grownups alike as its story playfully presents the possibilities of what happened after the “happily ever after.” Driven by exciting music and performance, the story is set in the idyllic kingdom of Auradon where Ben, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from “Beauty and the Beast”), is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, the trouble-making offspring of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar, who have been imprisoned on the forbidden Isle of the Lost for 20 years. These villainous descendants are allowed into Auradon for the first time to attend prep school alongside the teenage progeny of Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan. Only time will tell if these evil teens follow in the footsteps of their wicked parents!

Kenny Ortega, the Emmy Award-winning director and choreographer of Disney’s “High School Musical” franchise, directs, choreographs and executive-produces the movie.

Starring are: Dove Cameron (“Liv and Maddie”) as Mal, the daughter of Maleficent; Booboo Stewart (“X-Men Days of Future Past”) as Jay, the son of Jafar; Sofia Carson as Evie, the daughter of the Evil Queen; and Cameron Boyce (“Jessie,” “Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything”) as Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil. The notable cast also includes Mitchell Hope, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Maz Jobrani, Kathy Najimy and the Tony Award-winning Kristin Chenoweth.

Disney’s “Descendants” is part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, which delivered five of the top six movies in cable TV history in Total Viewers.

Check out some of the cool products!

Stay tuned for more Descendants!
