Disney Finds – Hand-painted Disney Shoes

M&M

Looking on Etsy there are hundreds of people who hand paint Disney Shoes. From Mickey & Minnie to the Disney Parks. Probably one of the best designers I have seen is ChromaSouls. While a little more expensive that some of the other designers the quality of their work is top notch. Here are some examples of their fun designs:

Keep in mind the shoes you see are just samples of their work. All of their shoes are Custom based off of the designs you pick. Here is how it works…

Custom Painted Shoes in 5 easy steps!

Step 1: Get a pair of shoes, old or new, in any color that you want to be painted and personalized!

Step 2: Brainstorm! What do you want on these shoes? Do you have a favorite animal? Movie? Tv Show? Book? Photo? Painting? Hobby? I can do anything you think of.

Step 3: Message me what you want on your shoes, and I will sketch out designs until we have the PERFECT one.

Step 4: Ship me your shoes, and I will paint them until they are exactly what you are looking for. I will send you pictures of the progress and final design. Then I ship them right back to you!

Step 5: WEAR YOUR BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM PAINTED SHOES! Have the happiest feet in the world. And be the envy of all others with plain boring shoes. Then give them my info 🙂

It is just that easy. So to get started visit their shop and look at some of their work and then when you get an idea of what you would like go from there.

Disney Planning “Do’s” And “Don’ts”

ponchos

ponchos

Planning a Walt Disney World vacation is no small task – there’s so much to do and see, and so much information out there that it can easily become overwhelming. Luckily, we’re here to help!

Check out my list of Disney Planning Do’s and Don’ts:

Do – Make Lists: I am big fan of lists – they help me stay on track, and they are especially helpful to me and my family when we are traveling. I like to make the following lists for my Disney trips: packing lists (for me AND the kids!), budget/spending money list, park list (stuff like sunscreen, snacks etc that I pack in our bag that we bring to the Parks), a list of the rides/attractions I know I want to do, a list of the foods I want to eat (which may seem weird but Disney has some AMAZING food!)…needless to say, I am a big fan of lists – and you should be too, they help ensure your vacation is a happy one!

Do – Research: If you’re planning your first ever trip to Walt Disney World, you will definitely want to do some research (Chip and Co is a great place to get info about Resorts, News, and all things Disney in general!) – reading about basic stuff like Resort choices, dining options, checking out Park maps to get the lay of the land, looking up what attractions/rides your family might enjoy (or what they might not be able to ride due to height restrictions, etc) – knowing some of this stuff before you arrive will help you out tremendously and leave you more time to enjoy your trip

Do – Be Prepared for the weather: Florida weather can change in an instant, so you’ll want to bring along some items to be as prepared as possible for its sudden fluctuations. Sunscreen is a MUST (as is making sure you apply it liberally and often), as are ponchos (you can buy disposable ones at your local dollar store, or more durable ones at your local Target/Walmart), and shopping bags and ziploc baggies (to protect your valuables when the rain comes), and a hat (sunburned scalp is no fun, trust me!). Bring along your own water bottles too, and make sure you fill them up and stay well hydrated – as the Florida sun can be killer

Do – Stick to your regular schedule: It’s easy to get thrown off when you’re on vacation – but trying to stick to your regular schedule as much as possible – make sure you’re eating meals around the same time as you do at home, and naps are really important too – kids will definitely still need their naps while at Disney (even though they might fight you HARD on it), and if you skip a meal or a nap you might end up with a temper tantrum (adults AND kids are susceptible to this…). Obviously everything can’t be exactly the same while you’re in a different place, but keeping the basics the same – feeding, naptime, bedtime, etc – will keep everyone happy

Don’t – Plan Every Minute Of Every Day: I am a huge fan of planning, but I also have been to Disney World many times, and I know that the reality is – Disney runs on its own time clock – buses and boats take a while to load and unload, crowds make it tricky to get to your favorite ride during your Fastpass+ time, it can take 30 minutes or more to get a meal at a counter service location at lunchtime…needless to say, sometimes even the best laid plans don’t always get perfectly executed. I like to make a general plan – like picking which Parks to go to on which days, but other than that, I leave things pretty open – that way we can be spontaneous and go wherever the mood takes us!

And on that note…

Don’t – Try To Do It All: I cannot stress this “don’t” enough – especially for first time WDW travelers. You and your kids will get overstimulated, and want to do every single ride, attraction, and show – and it is just NOT POSSIBLE. Even if you’re there for a whole week – the chances of you getting to do it all at all 4 Parks are really slim – so I suggest you just accept that now, and focus on the things you REALLY want to do (that’s where that research comes in!). No matter what things you decide to do, you will still have a great time

Don’t – Over Research: Planning and research is all well and good, but there is such a thing as too much planning (hard for me to admit, since I love to plan, but it’s true!). Skimming a guidebook for general information is great and highly recommended, but spending hours and hours on Disney forums, reading other people’s (usually skewed/biased) reviews…not so good. If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, take a step back from the research and just remind yourself to keep it simple – get an overview of where you’re going, and then learn the rest when you get there (that’s half the fun of going to a new place anyway!)

Above all DO remember to have fun! After all, you ARE going on vacation to the Happiest Place On Earth – DISNEY!!!

Best Time to Visit Disneyland

mater
mater

mater

I get asked this question a lot: when is the best time to visit Disneyland? My initial response is: anytime at Disneyland is the best time! In all seriousness, there are a few things to factor in when deciding what time of year to visit Disneyland. Once you know your preferences on crowd levels, weather, etc. you’ll be better able to choose your travel dates.

If you’d like to experience Disneyland with smaller crowds the best times to visit are:
• Mid-January through mid-March (except for President’s Day Weekend)
• Mid-April through mid-May (except during Spring Break)
• Mid-September through mid-November (except during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort)
If you can’t come during those times, another way to avoid larger crowds is to visit the parks mid-week-Tuesdays to Thursdays. My family and I prefer to visit when there are smaller crowds and we’ve found that the week before Thanksgiving is a great time to experience Disneyland.

When the parks are less crowded the park hours tend to be shorter and there are usually more attractions closed for refurbishment. If you’d like to have the option to be at the parks from early morning to late at night, then the best time to go would be during Disneyland’s peak season. Disneyland’s peak season is June through August. Park hours and entertainment are at their peak. There may be larger crowds, but you’ll have extra time to see everything you want to see. This also tends to be the warmest time of year in California.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort also tend to be very crowded. Halloween time at the resort offers Mickey’s Halloween Party, other seasonal attractions and some spooky décor. Christmas time turns the resort into the merriest and most magical place to celebrate the holidays. My family and I also really enjoy visiting the parks while the Christmas décor is up (early November to early January).

If you’re only able to visit during a certain time of year, don’t hesitate to go! There is no bad time to visit the Disneyland Resort and your vacation will be as good as you make it. Just plan accordingly and have fun! You can also contact me if you’d like help with planning your next magical Disneyland adventure!

Dad Says “Sadness” Doll From “Inside Out” has Suicidal Thoughts

Andrew Smith of the Scottish Highlands, bought his daughter the Sadness doll from the hit movie “Inside Out”. He claims to be a Psychology student and says that the doll has “Suicidal Thoughts”. ‘The doll speaks in a very slow, depressed, melancholic tone and myself and my partner sat listening to it and we thought “that’s heavy, even for an adult”. Dad said.

He says he was shocked when he heard the doll say things like, ‘Crying makes me slow down and obsess over the weight of life’s problems.’ Or ‘I’m in an emotional slump – my legs don’t work. Give me an hour’ and ‘Goodbye friendship, hello loneliness.’ He says this is toxic to kids and is calling on Disney to recall the toy. Disney said  they hoped seeing the film would give context to what the doll is saying

‘I wasn’t terribly keen on her buying a doll called Sadness having spent the last year at uni doing psychology. The father said.

Some parents are also concerned that Joy appears thin and Sadness is not. Implying that not being thin means you are sad.

What are your thoughts?

MGM

We had our doubts that The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios would be back, but rejoice, because it will be back! You can enjoy their beauty for almost 2 whole months!

This beautiful lights display will not cost you extra. It is included with your paid admission. That is rare! I have been lucky enough to see these every year for a few years now and I highly recommend seeing this display at least once. The amount of lights and the synchronization to music is incredible. It will really bring you into the Christmas spirit!

They have been doing this since 1995.

They start on Nov 6, 2015 and run until Jan 3, 2016. They usually flip the switch at around 6:00 P.M. and continue on until the park closes. If you can be there when they first turn them on you will not regret it.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

United World Soccer
United World Soccer

United World Soccer

United World Soccer is no re-open on the West Side of Disney Springs. This store has been moved around a few times, but now they have hopefully found a new permanent home.

They have been open at Downtown Disney since May 2014

The first pop-up store was right between D-Street and Candy Cauldron. That location closed in March 2015. Now it is located in the old Hoypoloi store between Sunglass Icon and Sosa Cigars.

You will love this store if you are a soccer fan. You will find a ton of soccer stuff from your favorite teams. Have no fear they also have Orlando City Soccer stuff too. If you want to customize a shirt with your favorite players name on it you can do that too.

They are open Sunday to Thursday 10:30am to 11pm, and Friday to Saturday from 10:30am to midnight.
