Top 5 “Must Try” Quick Service Meals at Walt Disney World

MustTryQS
MustTryQS

MustTryQS

Walt Disney World is home to tons of seriously amazing restaurants that serve up all kinds of delicious cuisine. Their table service restaurants are all great – the service is always impeccable, and it’s a great way to take a break from a hectic day at the Parks. But sometimes, I don’t want to take a break! Sometimes you’re in a hurry, or just want to grab a quick bite before heading over to the Haunted Mansion for the 5th time that day (no judgment here!). Just because you’re in a hurry doesn’t mean you can’t eat well – so check out my top picks for the “Must Try” Quick Service Meals at WDW:

The Ribs and Chicken Combo at Flame Tree BBQ : You’ll find this dining spot over in the Discovery Island area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – often with long lines full of hungry carnivores! There’s a reason why the lines are always long – and I personally think it’s due to this mouth wateringly delicious meal – moist chicken, slow-cooked perfectly seasoned ribs, served with baked beans and coleslaw. The sides here are actually really good – flavorful beans and crisp fresh slaw – but the meats are truly the star here, and this meal lets you try not one, but TWO meats – what could be better?

The Power Salad at Sunshine Seasons: I’m not usually one to order up a salad when there are other available options that might offer more bang for my buck, but I have to say – this one is definitely worth it! Fresh greens with a mix of almonds, quinoa, a delicious honey vinaigrette, and the best part – it’s topped with oak fired chicken. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the chicken at Sunshine Seasons, let me school you a bit – it’s roasted over an oak fire (duh), and the rotisserie is beautiful – not to mention it smells AWESOME. The chicken really elevates this salad – but if you aren’t a salad person, the Rotisserie chicken meal might be more your speed. Everything at Sunshine Seasons is fresh and a lot of it even uses produce grown on site. Plus, they have awesome desserts (Strawberry Shortcake anyone?)

Tacos from La Cantina De San Angel: I am a big fan of all Mexican food – and this perfectly seasoned beef atop fresh, hot corn tortillas with rice, beans and fresh salsa tops the list as one of the best tacos I have ever had! It’s nothing fancy, but it’s all done right and that’s what counts in my book. They also serve cheese empanadas and some killer nachos here, all of which pair perfectly with their margaritas (I’m partial to the plain ole’ lime version, but the pomegranate one is a great twist on a classic drink)

The Lighthouse Sandwich from Columbia Harbour House: smooth hummus and tomato pair with a fantastically crisp and fresh broccoli slaw, and it’s served on toasted multi grain bread which honestly might be the best part of the sandwich – it’s hearty and has a great texture. It’s served with kettle-style potato chips which give a great crunchy texture to the meal. It’s a vegetarian option that will please almost any palette (even the meat lovers out there!). Columbia Harbour House serves up some unique eats – from a top notch New England Clam Chowder, to grilled salmon and a great fried shrimp platter, it’s a nice place to go to get something different

The Hot Dog and Fries at Casey’s Corner: Ok, a hot dog may not be the most exciting or unique meal, but there are few things better than grabbing a hot dog at Casey’s and managing to get one of the coveted tables so you can watch the parade go by. The hot dog by itself is great – but you can change it up with chili cheese or pulled pork & coleslaw versions, and they also serve super adorable (and delicious!) corn dog nuggets. A hot dog, fries, and a Coke – it doesn’t get much more classically American than that, does it?

I hope you get a chance to try some of these meals next time you’re at Walt Disney World, but if you’re not hungry enough for a meal and maybe just need a snack to get you through until dinner time – then I suggest you try one of my Top 5 Must Try Sweet Snacks

Universal Orlando’s-Halloween Horror Nights 25-The Walking Dead!

Halloween Horror Nights The Walking Dead

Universal Orlando is in the final stages of announcements for this year’s Halloween Horror Night event, and with only about 45 more days until opening night we will see multiple updates in the next few weeks. I for one am very happy about this particular update as a major fan of the show I love being “IN” the scenes that played out in front of me as I watched in terror of what was next to come for my favorite characters. You might have guessed it, The Walking Dead is returning for its 4th year to Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 25.

Scenes you can expect to encounter from season 5 of The Walking Dead will be everything from the Terminus butcher who slashed the throats of many that has since turned into a walker—to the Walkers from the flooded food bank attacking through waist high waters. The food bank scene really grossed me out, so I can’t wait to see what they have in store for all the fans.  Let’s also not forget about some of the really horrific scenes of season 5 like when grenade blast pins one of the character’s to the wall and then the Walkers feast on him while he’s still alive. One scene I feel will scare you the most will be as you try to make your way past the semi-trucks that are used as Walker traps.  Not sure everyone will survive past the massive amount of walkers trapped within the back of the semi-trucks.

If you think you can handle it check out this video below! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

8 Reasons to Visit the Disneyland Resort at Halloween Time

DL Halloween
DL Halloween

DL Halloween

Halloween time is probably my 2nd favorite time to visit the Disneyland Resort. Christmas time is my number one favorite but we’ll save that for another article. I love the Halloween/fall décor, the special Halloween treats, and getting to see characters that aren’t usually out in the park! Those are just a few reasons to visit Disneyland at this spook-tacular time of year. Here’s a more detailed list of why you should take your next Disneyland trip during Halloween time:

halloween 2011

Fall Photo Opportunities

It’s not every day you get to see a giant Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Main Street U.S.A.! This is definitely a must-have photo op, along with the classic photo in front of the castle.

Halloween Décor

Main Street U.S.A. is transformed into a pumpkin festival with hundreds of hand-carved pumpkins on display during Halloween time. All of the buildings are decorated in their finest festive décor. Be sure to also check out the Dia de los Muertos skeleton display in Frontierland. It’s a beautiful display with lots of attention to detail.

Halloween Time Goodies

Disneyland always has some of the best tasting treats and Halloween time is no exception! One of my favorite candies is candy corn and last year Disneyland offered the delectable candy corn apple pictured above. That’s just one of the amazing sweets available during Halloween time at the Resort. Other treats that were featured last year were Bat Cake Pops, Pumpkin Marshmallow Wands, and the Haunted Mansion Clock Crispy. I’m excited to see what goodies will be featured this Halloween!

Haunted Mansion Holiday

Jack Skellington and the residents from Halloween Town have taken over the Haunted Mansion! If you are a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas then you can’t miss this attraction! There is so much detail, you’ll have to ride more than once to see it all. Be sure to look for the giant gingerbread house-it’s a different design each year!

Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy

Another ride that has been transformed for Halloween time is Space Mountain. You’re launched into a haunted section of the universe and try to escape the clutches of a freaky ghost! This version of the ride is slightly scarier than the regular version, so take that into account before letting your younger children ride.

Halloween Mickey

Rarely Seen Characters

Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas can be seen near the Haunted Mansion and are out for meet & greats through the Christmas season. You’ll also get to see classic characters all dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Be on the look out for Disney villains to make special appearances as well.

Halloween Merchandise

As if it’s not already difficult to not buy all of the awesome Disney merchandise, Halloween themed items are available during this time of year as well! T-shirts, ornaments, Mickey ears, and limited edition pins are just a few of the fun Halloween items you’ll find. Try not to buy them all!

dtnemail-Mickey_s_Halloween_DLR_1-b742a

Mickey’s Halloween Party

This year Mickey’s Halloween Party has been extended to 17 exciting nights! Dress up in your favorite costume and enjoy trick-or-treating (among other entertainment) at Disneyland. There’s a dance party, photo locations with popular Disney pals and villains, and access to nearly all attractions. You’ll also get to see the new “Paint the Night Parade” and the “Halloween Screams” fireworks. This special event is not to be missed and tickets are on sale now!

Halloween time at the Disneyland Resort is an extra special time of year and should be experienced at least once! I’d love to help you plan your next spooky adventure to Disneyland! Email me at [email protected] for a free quote.

D23 Expo Will Share “Finding Dory” Trailer!

FindingDoryLogoTemp_small-610x342

The upcoming D23 Expo is just a few short weeks away and will be full of exciting news, events and special announcements.   A big one if not the biggest for Disney fans is the news that the  “Finding Dory” trailer will be shown to the public for the first time at D23.

D23’s event “Every Story Is A Jouirney:  The upcoming Films of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios” to be hosted by John Lasseter himself, will give fans a look at not only “Finding Dory” but the upcoming movies “The Good Dinosaur”, “Zootopia” and “Moana“.  Along with never-before-seen footage, there will be plenty of surprise announcements, appearances and musical performances by the films’ voice talents.

We don’t know too much about “Finding Dory” but what we do know is that it will take place 6 months after “Finding Nemo” adventures and will have Dory and Marlin off on another adventure to the Marine Biology Institute of California where Dory was born.   The journey will bring new characters including sea lions, a beluga whale and an octopus. Voice talents include Ty Burrell as Bailey, the beluga whale, and Dominic West and Idris Elba (unknown roles).  Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton will be the voices of Dory’s parents and we will see returning cast members, Albert Brooks  (Marlin) Willem Defoe (Gil), Vicki Lewis (Deb/Flo) and of course, the one of a kind, and my personal favorite, Ellen DeGeneres (Dory).

“Finding Dory” is still about a year away – June 17, 2016 but when it is released as part of Pixar’s 30th anniversary celebration, I will be celebrating and first in line!

I love when people are able to recycle things we would normally throw away and make something new and exciting. Etsy designer TheCreativeBee is able to do just that with Disney Park Maps. Of course she doesn’t call it recycling she is a lot more trendier than that, they like to upcycle those Disney Park Maps into something much more fun. Here are some of the things they are able to do:

and many more…

Just talking about the designs from TheCreativeBee does them no justice. You need to drop by their store and check out all of their very cool Upcycled Designs.

Frozen Makeovers Now Available at the Ice Palace Boutique in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If your little ones want to channel their inner fairy tale princess, pop star, or knight, there’s the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Cinderella’s Castle and Downtown Disney.  And if your little ones want to have a jolly good time on the high seas as a pirate or mermaid, there’s the Pirates’ League in Adventureland.  These experiences have been thrilling guests for years.  But just a few weeks ago, Disney added a new makeover salon to the list, one that makes this mom of two Frozen-obsessed girls absolutely giddy with excitement.

As part of Frozen Summer Fun at Hollywood Studios, Disney Imagineers built the Ice Palace Boutique, an experience that transforms boys and girls so that they can be ready just in time for Coronation Day.  I know, right?  You might need a second.  Go ahead and let it out, I get it.

icepalace2

Okay, ready for the details?  Here’s what you need to know about this amazing experience:

  1. The Ice Palace Boutique is only available during the summer, from July 26 through September 7
  2. Advanced reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling Disney at (407) 827-7400 or your travel agent
  3. The Ice Palace Boutique is located on Commissary Lane right across the ABC Commissary
  4. Guests ages 3-12 can take part in this experience

There are a few packages to choose from:

The Frozen Summer Fun Boutique Package includes shimmering makeup palette, face gems, nail polish, and a braided hair piece with sparkling snowflake accessories.  This also includes an exclusive photo opportunity.  This package costs $75, including tax.

The Ice Palace Boutique Package includes everything offered in the Frozen Summer Fun Boutique Package.  In addition, it also includes access for up to 6 total guests to the Ice Palace Cafe where you can enjoy Frozen-themed snacks (think fruit, cupcakes, ice cream bars, ice pops, pretzels, popcorn, and other yummy treats).  You’ll also get priority seating to one show of “For the First Time In Forever: A Frozen Musical Celebration”.  This package costs $175, including tax.

The Ice Palace Boutique Deluxe Package includes everything offered in the Ice Palace Boutique Package.  In addition, it includes a choice of either an Anna or Elsa costume dress.  The cost is $240, including tax.

The Olaf Package includes an Olaf shirt and glitter hairstyle.  Reservations are not required for this package.  Cost is $19.95, plus tax.

icepalace3

What’s also great is that makeovers are done in smaller individual rooms with 1-2 guests per room, instead of the traditional wide open spaces at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique or Pirates’ League.  It makes the experience more personal, and for parents, this probably means you can walk around and take as many pictures as you want without running into another parent.

Another plus?  At the Ice Palace Cafe, there is an activity station for kids where they can color Frozen-themed coloring pages.  The Cafe is beautifully themed and also gives a nice break from the warm Florida weather.  Based on some initial guest reviews, you are given a wristband to enter the cafe which you can enjoy and keep coming back to for the rest of the day.

With that I will turn it over to you.  Are you thinking about booking an experience at the Ice Palace Boutique?  And for those who have already gone through the experience, what was it like?  As this is only being offered during Frozen Summer Fun, availability is extremely limited.  If you are interested in making a reservation, contact Disney or your travel agent as soon as possible.

Hi there, I’m Myra and I’m a huge Disney nerd and addict!  I’m also an Independent Travel Agent at World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip and Co. and Disney Addicts.  I’m happy to help you plan your next vacation, including helping you incorporate magical experiences like the Ice Palace Boutique into your trip, at no cost to you!  Visit my page or send me an email at [email protected] to get started!
