10 Tips to Ensure Smooth Sailing on the Disney Cruise Line

DCL1
DCL1

DCL1

The key ingredients for a great Disney cruise are pretty simple: show up, relax and have fun!  But I wanted to share some other tips that you will want to make sure you do so you and your family can have the ultimate Disney vacation at sea.  So, without further adieu, here are my 10 tips of things NOT to do on a Disney cruise …

Carry your own luggage onboard.  Let the Disney Cruise Line do it for you!  Whether you arrive to the cruise terminal on Disney Cruise Line transportation or in your own vehicle, they offer services at the port that keep you from having to lug your suitcases onto the ship.  Just bring aboard a day bag with your essential personal items, and your luggage will be delivered to your stateroom in the afternoon.

Live out of your suitcase.  The staterooms are designed with families in mind and offer LOTS of storage space, including a place to tuck away your suitcases.  How cool is that?  One of the perks of cruising is visiting multiple destinations and only unpacking once, so settle in and make yourselves at home on the first day by assigning closet space and drawers to each member of the family.

Clean your stateroom.  As difficult as it may be to break your daily habits, now’s the time to try!  Don’t worry about making the bed each morning, and don’t worry about washing your towels and taking out the trash.  Your stateroom hosts are there to make your stay as pleasant as possible, and if there’s anything you need, just ask.  They are great at helping you get what you need, when you need it!

Disney Cruise Line

Introduce yourself to your dining servers each night.  Your serving team stays with you as you visit different restaurants and enjoy new menus each night.  That means only one round of introductions are needed.  And chances are their personalized service and hospitality will make your servers unforgettable.  Many times, if you have a special drink of choice, it will be waiting for you at your table because your team knows what you like!  Just another way the Disney Cruise Line offers amazing, personalized service.

Miss out on time for yourself.   As a parent, this is one of the hardest things sometimes.  You have to remember- it’s your vacation, too!  Activities for families to do together are endless on a Disney cruise, but there’s also no shortage of fun just for adults. The kids clubs are supervised by trained counselors and have the longest operating hours at sea, so there’s no excuse for parents to not take advantage of adult-only dining, spa, quiet pool and other activities.

Disney Cruise Line

Throw away the Navigator.  Your only excuse for tossing this daily activity guide is if you already downloaded the Navigator app on your smart phone. With so many activities happening throughout your cruise, you’ll want Navigator info handy at all times. It gives you the scoop on what’s happening every minute of every day and even categorizes the fun for kids, adults and families.  Each evening, your stateroom host will place one in your room so you can review all the activities for the next day and plan out your fun!

Head back to the ship for lunch while at Castaway Cay.  The Disney Cruise Line is the only cruise line that docks at its own private island, so it’s easy to go back on the ship throughout your day at Castaway Cay.  But if you want to maximize beach time, head to one of three all-you-care-to-eat lunch buffets served under the shade of the island’s covered pavilions.  They are delicious and it just immerses you into the island even more!

Disney Cruise Line

Explore destinations on your own.  Port Adventures are the best way for your family to have an unforgettable experience ashore.   The Disney Cruise Lines offers so many options, the hardest thing will be deciding which to do.  Along with the peace of mind that comes with having all the planning done for you, they offer unique activities that you can only experience through Disney.  Many excursions even offer just-for-kids components, so parents have a little time alone.

Worry about your kids in the youth spaces.  See above! The Disney Cruise Line has the most extensive youth activity spaces of any cruise line, with age-specific areas and interactive programs to entertain children up to 17 years old.  Getting your kids to leave the kids clubs may be the one challenge of your cruise.  And, if you plan to have your tiny sailors spend time in the Nursery, let’s be sure to arrange that ahead of time.

Disney Cruise Line

Watch the fireworks at sea through your camera lens.  This show is so amazing that it’s completely understandable you’ll want to capture every moment on your camera.  Resist the urge and just enjoy the moment with your family!  If you take your eyes off the fireworks, it should only be to glance over at the smiles on your family’s faces.  But, if you are anything like me, you will want to take some photos, so just be sure to try and find that balance, because these fireworks are truly magical!

Disney Cruise Line

So what do you think?  Does this truly sound like a vacation you would love to experience with your family?  With destinations around the world, there are options to fit every sense of adventure and every budget.  I’d love to help you find the perfect itinerary for your family.  Email me at [email protected] for more information and be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter (@TriciaatWoMT) for the latest Disney news, updates and events!

Disney Cruise Line Emailing Out Travel History and Health Questionnaire

Health & Travel Questionnaire

The Disney Cruise Line has started emailing Health and Travel Questionnaires to those traveling on upcoming sailings.  Nothing is more important to the Cast and Crew, than the safety and well-being of their passengers and themselves.  Due to recent events, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 travel notice for US Citizens to avoid nonessential travel to specific West African nations and is actively tracking close contacts of those who may have been exposed to Ebola in the United States.

Guests can feel safe knowing that the Disney Cruise Line does not have any Crew Members from these countries on any of their ships.  In addition, all new and returning Crew members are actively being screened to review their travel history and close contacts prior to boarding.  In order to keep everyone healthy and safe, Disney Cruise Line is extending this screening to its Guests.

What they are asking if if you or a member of your stateroom party have traveled to the Western African nations of Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone, or have been in direct physical contact- such as having cared for, lived with, or had direct contact- with a confirmed or suspected Ebola case within 42 hours prior to the start of your cruise vacation, to notify them immediately at 1-866-325-2112 or 407-566-3510.

To expedite your boarding process, all other Guests are asked to print and complete the Travel History and Health Questionnaire you receive via email for your entire stateroom party and bring it along with you when you check in for your cruise.  The questionnaire is only four questions and should take you about 2 minutes to complete the form.

Disney would like to thank its Guests in advance for their cooperation and understanding of the implementation of this added measure.  Remember, it’s for everyone’s safety and you can feel confident knowing that Disney Cruise Line is taking these added steps to ensure a magical sailing for all!  If you have any questions, please be sure to let your travel agent know.  And, if you are ready to book your next cruise, email me at [email protected].  I’d love to help you find that perfect itinerary for your family!

Top 11 Table Service Meals at Walt Disney World Under $19

Top 11 Table Service Meals under 19
Top 11 Table Service Meals under 19

Top 11 Table Service Meals under $19

Recently we shared with you our Top 11 Quick Service meals at Disney World under $11.  It was a big hit – I mean, who doesn’t want to save money at Disney, right?

We’re back today to help those planning a Disney trip on a budget who still want to experience a Table Service Meal or two.  Yes, Table Service meals are more expensive because of the gratuity added at the end but even still, a Table Service meal at Disney World doesn’t need to cost a fortune.  There are some great meals at Walt Disney World and you can even find them for less than $19!

Here are my top Table Service meals under $19:

11. Build Your Own Angus Burger, Sci Fi Dine-in Theater, Commissary Lane, Disney’s Hollywood Studios:  I tried to avoid burgers on this list – just because they can be found at pretty much every quick service location but this burger is pretty awesome!  This is served on a Brioche Bun, Flame-broiled Beef Patty topped with your choice of the following: Swiss, Cheddar, or American Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Jalapeños, Caramelized Onions, Mushrooms, Bacon, Onion Rings, or Barbecue Sauce with a side item.  It’s filling and I like being able to customize my burger!

10. Sod the Stew, Raglan Road, Pleasure Island, Downtown Disney: Raglan Road at Downtown Disney is always a fun time.  The name of this meal is always a tad off putting to me but it’s totally worth trying!  It’s beef stew infused with a hint of Guinness.  I had it with a side of green beans!  And, if the budget allows it, they have some pretty amazing beer flights you should check out.

9. Penne a la Vodka, Mama Melrose’s, Streets of America, Disney’s Hollywood Studios:  I’m a big fan of pasta and it’s usually pretty filling while remaining on the inexpensive side.  The sauce is really good in my opinion and the Pancetta adds a little something special!

8. Honey Sesame Chicken, Nine Dragons, China Pavilion, Epcot: The sauce on this dish is really, really good! It is really packed with flavor.  The chicken is breaded and served with a side of rice and vegetable slaw.

7. Cousin Ann’s Traditional Meatloaf, 50’s Prime Time Cafe, Echo Lake, Disney’s Hollywood Studios:  The atmosphere here is enough to keep me coming back time and time again!  The meatloaf is pretty amazing though – it is a blend of Beef and Pork topped with Tomato Glaze served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans.  It is a family favorite for sure and one you should definitely try.

6. Spaghetti and Meatballs, Tony’s Town Square, Main Street USA, Magic Kingdom: In my mind, you can’t go wrong with Spaghetti and Meatballs!  And what better meal to enjoy in this Lady and the Tramp themed restaurant.  It’s a very generous portion of spaghetti topped meatballs and marinara sauce.  It is served with a slice of cheesy garlic bread.  This is one meal that is sure to please!

5. Piccante Signature Pie, Via Napoli, Italy Pavilion, Epcot:  Okay so I’m cheating on this one a little.  Technically if you get a pizza for one person it is over $19 BUT if you and a friend or two split one of the larger sizes it comes out well under $19 per person.  The pizza at Via Napoli is a fan favorite!  You can’t go wrong with any of them but I really the Piccante, which is the sausage pizza.  The sausage is a little spicy and pairs well with the sauce.  Another really good one to try is the Carciofi (white pizza, artichoke, fontina, mozzarella, truffle oil).

4. Sheppard’s Pie, Rose and Crown, United Kingdom Pavilion, Epcot:  This is a pretty traditional dish and it is very filling – at least I think so.  It’s Ground Lamb, Seasonal Vegetables, English Peas, Mashed Potatoes, and McCall’s Irish Cheddar.  It screams “comfort food” to me, although it’s probably something I’d try during a fall visit and skip in the summer months!  Plus, if you time it right and can get one of the more coveted tables, there is a chance you’ll be able to see Illuminations while you enjoy your dinner!

3. Crispy Honey Chicken, Yak and Yeti, Asia, Disney’s Animal Kingdom:  Tempura chicken, broccoli, carrots, honey sauce and choice of jasmine or brown rice – just screams YUM! to me.  It’s a nice size portion and I think the flavor is wonderful!

2. Southernmost Buttermilk Chicken, Olivia’s Cafe, Disney’s Old Key West:  As someone who currently lives in the south, I must say this is a hidden gem!  The chicken is perfect and served with Mashed Potatoes, Southern Gravy, and Seasonal Vegetables.  It is a really filling meal and totally worth the cost – especially since it’s under $19!

1. Boatwright’s Jambalaya, Boatwright’s Dining Hall, Port Orleans Riverside:  I love Boatwright’s!  Maybe it’s because I just love the feel of Port Orleans Riverside but no matter what we love stopping by for a meal if we have time on our trips!  And nothing screams New Orleans to me like Jambalaya!  The Jambalaya at Boatwrigtht’s is fantastic – Slow-cooked Shrimp, Andouille Sausage, and Chicken in a spicy Sauce served over Rice.  And it’s a huge bowl.  You can’t go wrong trying this meal on your next visit.

Well now that I’ve gotten myself good and hungry, do you have a favorite table service meal under $19?  I’d love to hear what your favorites are so make sure to share in the comments below or on Facebook!

Is Free Disney Dining Coming in January?

Hiya! How is everyone today? Better now that you are reading some juicy Disney Gossip from me! These 2 things go together so well, FREE and FOOD. Now, when you add Disney to that mix then it is like heaven on earth.

Free Dining is a huge promotion for Disney and needless to say it is very popular. So, I have been getting many emails and Facebook messages asking about free dining in January. Apparently some Disney sites an or forums says that is coming. I am skeptical as typically Free Disney Dining is released in the spring not really in Winter.

But as soon as I heard there might be some Disney news, I am on it like chocolate on a Mickey Premium Bar! The Chipster and I searched high and low and questioned all of our credible sources and there is nothing on the horizon, sadly. Hey, who knows they could just not tell me because they know it will not be a secret for long.

So take this gossip with a huge Space Ship Earth grain of salt… and remember nothing is official until Disney says it!

Anywho, this all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my Facebook page
