Tsum Tsum Tuesday Lion King

The first Tsum Tsum Tuesday of the year promises to be exciting as the characters from Disney’s The Lion King go plush! Pride Rock better be prepared for the new collection arriving January 5, 2015.

From the sneak peek it looks like we can be expecting Young Simba, Nala, Zazu, Rafiki, Timon, Pumba, Scar, one of the hyenas, and what looks like either Adult Simba or Mufasa. This collection is one of my favorite ones so far! Timon and Pumba will be great to keep on my desk to remind me to “Hakuna Matata” while working, and of course I’ll need Scar to add to my collection of villains Tsum Tsums! Which one will be your must have? Or will you be like me and need them all?

These would also be great if your preschooler has recently fallen in love with the new Lion Guard “Return of the Roar” movie that will be running as a new series on Disney Junior!

So remember these mini plush will be out the first Tuesday or the new year, and will probably go fast! They’ll be available on January 5, 2015 at Disney Parks, the Disney Store, and Disney Store Online.

Siemens Epcot VIP Lounge for US Military and Retirees

VIP

Are you a member of the U.S. Armed Forces? Are you a U.S. Armed Forces retiree? Do you travel to Disney World with someone that is an active duty military member or retiree? Did you know that there was a VIP lounge in Epcot just for you?!

That’s right! There is a VIP lounge located inside of Spaceship Earth that in the past was able to be accessed by military members, retirees and their guests. In order to enter you will need to obtain an access card and this can be done at the Shades of Green Ticket Office. Just ask for the Siemens Access Card. Siemens, the company that sponsors Spaceship Earth itself, also sponsors the lounge.
***UPDATED*** As of 12/15/15 the use of the Siemens VIP Lounge for military members has been discontinued due too high demand. It is unknown if or when the use of the lounge will be allowed again.

The entrance to the lounge can be found on the right side of Spaceship Earth as you enter the park at the exit of the Project Tomorrow exhibit. The entrance door displays the Siemens name – in the past you could just open just open it up! Here veterans were met with a kiosk that resembles an ATM and here they would enter the code of the back of your pass.

After the code had been put in the door would unlock and you were free to enter. Heading up the stairs and you would be greeted by a Siemens employee. They would let you know what is available in the lounge let you know about the “back door” to the Spaceship Earth attraction.

Guests would sign in and indicate how many guests you have with them and then you can relax in the AC and enjoy a beverage. A device charging station was also available.

Guests could walk around and take a look at the hi-tech displays to learn about what Siemens is all about and what the company is doing all around the world.

There were also restrooms available.

When guests were ready to leave they would let the person at the welcome desk know, and would be escorted down a “back” stairwell and into the unloading area for Spaceship Earth. There they would be able to board the ride!

This was a great gesture by Siemens to give military members and retirees a little something extra. Sadly, due to high demand it was discontinued.

Siemens is also committed to supporting military members and helping them to transition back to civilian life through Siemens Military Recruiting.

Check out a video of the inside from WDW News Today:

Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur Numbers Lower Than Expected

Disney/Pixar’s Thanksgiving weekend release of “The Good Dinosaur” saw lower numbers than expected at the box offices.

A weak audience consisting of 79% families, and 40% 12 and under was given as the reason for the low box office sales numbers. However with the limited holiday releases, the film still has the chance to raise the numbers.

Sales for the 3 day period at 39.2 million and overall 5 day weekend at 55.6 million might seem low, but “The Good Dinosaur” still ranked in 3rd place behind Minions and Inside Out for the year on the 5 day numbers and 7th place for the 3 day numbers. Ranking 4th overall behind Frozen, Toy Story 2 and Tangled for the biggest holiday opening ever, “The Good Dinosaur” still has impressive numbers.

The Good Dinosaur” is the story of Arlo the dinosaur and his adventures.  Along with his friend Spot, Arlo must learn to face his fears and learn some hard lessons.

If you have not seen this cute but sad, new Pixar film, grab the tissues and your kids, spouse, family members and friends and head to your nearest theater.

Disney Has Issued a Cease and Desist to Venezuelan Producers

Venezuelan producers have made a show called “Aventura Congeladas”, which means“Frozen Adventure”. Last year Disney quickly issues them a cease and desist letter telling them to stop all promotions and marketing because they are being used without Disney’s permission.

It seems as though they were at it again. Disney has filed a new lawsuit against them because they have started up a new Disney themed show called “Vacaciones de Aventuras”, which translates to “Adventure Holidays”. This time they added different characters from Marvel.

Needless to say Disney is suing for millions for trademark infringement.

A First Timer’s Guide To FOOD at Walt Disney World

Pizzaplanet
Pizzaplanet

Pizzaplanet

Navigating all the ins and outs of Walt Disney World can be tricky – there’s a LOT that can go into planning a WDW vacation, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by it all. Luckily – us here at Chip and Co are ready to help you plan and prepare for the most amazing vacation you’ll ever have!

There are a lot of parts to a Disney vacation, and I recently wrote about one of the tricky ones – choosing a Resort, and today I want to talk about another one that can be tricky but is VERY important – and that is FOOD! Ok, so you might be thinking, what’s tricky about food? You’re hungry, you eat, right? Well, if only it were that simple…read on to see how you can prepare for the feasts that await you at WDW:

Do Your Research: Part of the fun of going on a vacation is researching and planning it – reading all about the different things to do/see/eat – am I right?? Ok, well, maybe everyone doesn’t love planning as much as I do – but fellow foodies can agree with me on this one – food research can be really fun! Start here on Chip and Co’s Dining section, and check out all the amazing dining spots that WDW has to offer. Researching menus and restaurants and cuisine types is especially important for those families dealing with food allergies, intolerances, or picky eaters – there’s nothing worse than sitting down to a nice meal in a fancy restaurant only to find out you or your kids can’t (or won’t!) eat anything on the menu. Disney is great about dealing with allergies and other special requests – and you can always call before your trip to learn more about a specific dining location

Make Those ADR’s: Once you have done some research, you’ll want to pick which table service restaurants you want to eat at during your trip. Once you have that list ready, and if your trip is less than 6 months away, then you can go online and make your Advance Dining Reservations (or ADR’s) for your trip. An ADR is similar to a “call ahead” for a restaurant table – when you arrive at your allotted time, you are put on the list for the next available table. It might not seem like a big deal, but ADR spots for popular restaurants fill up FAST – like REALLY FAST. Learn more about the importance of ADR’s here

DDP Or Not To DDP: DDP stands for Disney Dining Plan, and in a nutshell, it’s a way to prepay for some or all of your Disney meals/snacks. It is a great option for a lot of people, and you will want to look at the different types and options to see if it might work for you. Learn more about the DDP here to determine if it’s something that you might want to add to your Disney trip. I have used it several times and LOVE it – it’s so easy to use, and not having to spend as much money while at Disney is always a good thing to me!

Try Something New: When most people think of “theme park food”, things like chicken nuggets, burgers, and fries (and other fried things!) come to mind – generic, not very good tasting or good for you food is what we have come to expect from your average amusement park. Disney is breaking that stereotype though – by offering fresh & unique meals and treats throughout WDW. From fresh salads to handcrafted sandwiches, 5 star dinners, and cuisines from around the world: French, Moroccan, Italian, Mexican, Irish – and many more – Disney has it all when it comes to food. So I encourage you to step out of your food comfort zone and try something new – after all, you ARE on vacation!

Plan To Eat At “Off” Times: If you’re willing/able to be more flexible with your meal schedule, you’ll have better luck getting ADR’s at popular restaurants, and you’ll also encounter shorter lines and not have to search for tables at counter service locations too. Generally, the noon hour is the busiest at most places – so try to avoid that, and if you can eat an early or late dinner (ie – before 5 or after 6), you’ll have a much easier time getting your food

Dining at Disney is truly an experience like none other – and you’ll definitely want to follow my tips and tricks in order to make the most of your vacation meals!
