Gingerbread Displays Are Up at Walt Disney World

Gingerbread Holiday Ice Castle

The Walt Disney World pastry chefs have been hard at work and the gingerbread displays are now up around Walt Disney World!

The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is hosting a life size classic gingerbread house for the 17th year. The creation was made from Chef Erich Herbitschek’s Austrian recipe. The pastry team spent over 400 hours baking with 1,050 pounds of honey and 700 pounds of chocolate to build this masterpiece. The house stand at 16 feet high and has 40 windows.

You can view the gingerbread house in lobby of the Grand Floridian through January 1st. Gingerbread decorating demonstrations will be given each Sunday in front of the house.

Stop at the shop around the back of the house to pickup a gingerbread shingle, holiday treat, and collectible pin featuring Minnie Mouse as Mary Poppins.

Through January 6th you can stop over at Disney’s Contemporary Resort to see gingerbread Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven at the Gingerbread Holiday Ice Castle. The Ice Castle is 17 feet high and was made from 1,500 gingerbread shingles, 423 pounds of chocolate and sugar snowflakes. The castle design was inspired by artist Mary Blair’s designs for “it’s a small world”.

While visiting the Gingerbread Holiday Ice Castle see if you can find the 15 “Hidden Olafs” and a few details from “Frozen Fever”.

Before you leave the Grand Canyon Concourse at the hotel make sure to pick up a build your own snowman marshmallow kit, Peppermint Popcorn and an Olaf collectible pin.

An exciting new addition this year is Ginger’s Bread and Cookie Shop at Disney’s Boardwalk, available through January 4th .The sweet shoppe has 124 Mickey’s and is made from 350 pounds of gingerbread, including a Mickey weathervane.

The shoppe offers plenty of holiday treats including peppermint bark, gingerbread, and candy cane gelato. You can also bring the fun home with you by purchasing a gingerbread house kit. Before leaving Disney’s Boardwalk make sure to take advantage of the fun photo opportunity at the gingerbread display!

Is your mouth starting to water yet thinking of all the gingerbread displayed around Walt Disney World? If you are interested in planning a vacation to see it for yourself in person, contact me at [email protected] to take advantage of my free services.

Disney Channel has ordered a third season of the comedy series “Girl Meets World.” It was announced  by Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. In Total Viewers, “Girl Meets World” is the number one rated series across all kid-targeted, cable-television networks and ranks among the top five cable television series of the year among Kids 2-11 and Tweens 9-14. The series was created by Michael Jacobs and April Kelly and is executive-produced by Jacobs. It stars Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, August Maturo, Peyton Meyer and Corey Fogelmanis. Production resumes in Los Angeles in January. Season Three is scheduled to premiere in spring 2016.

“Michael Jacobs has one of the most authentic voices in television today,” said Bonnett. “He and the entire ‘Girl Meets World’ team will not only continue to entertain families but also help kids discover who they are and who they want to be in this world.”

What You Need To Know If You’re Going to Disney World for Christmas

xmas3
xmas3

xmas3

So you don’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree, because all you want for Christmas is Disney World.  I completely get it!  You’ve probably heard how magical it is – with all the trees, gingerbread houses, holiday music, the parade, the fireworks, and all the sparkling lights.  But no doubt you’ve also seen those pictures – you know, the ones where people stand seemingly shoulder to shoulder while waiting for bag check or while walking around the parks.  Don’t worry, with the right information and a little bit of planning, you can have an amazing time!  To help with that, we’ve put together some of the things we frequently get asked by Disney fans who are looking to visit the parks on Christmas:

What are the operating hours?

Here are the posted operating hours as of 11/30/15.  As there is a possibility that the hours will change as we get closer to Christmas, please always check with a Cast Member the day before you visit the parks to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.  The information should also be readily available in the My Disney Experience App.

Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24:

  • Magic Kingdom: hours are 8:00 am – 1:00 am (Extra Magic Hours from 7:00-8:00 am)
  • Epcot: hours are 9:00 am – 10:30 pm
  • Epcot – World Showcase: hours from 11:00 am – 10:30 pm
  • Hollywood Studios: hours are 9:00 am – 9:00 pm (Extra Magic Hours from 9:00-11:00 pm)
  • Animal Kingdom: hours are 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • Disney Springs: hours are 10:00 am – 12:00 am
  • Typhoon Lagoon: hours are 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Blizzard Beach: closed until January 2nd

Christmas Day, Friday, December 25:

  • Magic Kingdom: hours are 8:00 am – 1:00 am (Extra Magic Hours from 7:00-8:00 am)
  • Epcot: hours are 8:00 am – 10:30 pm (Extra Magic Hours from 10:30 pm-12:30 am)
  • Epcot – World Showcase: hours from 10:00 am – 10:30 pm (Extra Magic Hours from 10:30 pm-12:30 am)
  • Hollywood Studios: hours are 8:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Animal Kingdom: hours are 8:00 am – 8:30 pm
  • Disney Springs: hours are 10:00 am – 12:00 am
  • Typhoon Lagoon: hours are 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

How crowded will the parks be?

Very crowded, for the most part.  There is just no two ways about it.  There is a good chance that the park will go through some type of phased closure during the day, too – click here for our handy guide around phased closures at Disney and what they mean.  There may be times in the day, especially during Extra Magic Hours in the morning or late at night, when crowds are lesser than in the middle of the day.  If you are an early riser or a night owl, these are good options for you to consider to get more touring done at the parks.

What special events and activities will there be?

There are some events and activities that have already been announced, and we will list those here, but there are always special events happening at the resorts as well.  For the best information, check your resort guide of events and activities so you can experience Christmas magic outside the parks too.

Within the parks, here are some special holiday events:

  • Once Upon a Christmastime Parade (Magic Kingdom) – this is the same parade that is exclusively shown at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, until the party dates end.  After that, it gets shown during regular park hours as well.  There should be a showing or two of this parade on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  It puts you in a wonderful holiday spirit and is not to be missed!  The parade is currently scheduled at 12:00pm and 3:30 pm for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  • Holiday Wishes (Magic Kingdom) – it’s the nighttime fireworks show at Magic Kingdom, holiday-style; currently scheduled at 8pm for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  • Frozen Holiday Wish (Magic Kingdom) – watch Queen Elsa and Princess Anna perform a small holiday show and finish in grand fashion by lighting up Cinderella’s castle.  It is white, twinkling, bright and spellbinding!
  • Celebrate the Magic Holiday Show (Magic Kingdom) – prior to Holiday Wishes, Cinderella’s castle is transformed through different projections.  Just like Holiday Wishes, this show is the same castle projection show usually shown at regular park days, except done with a holiday twist.
  • Holidays Around the World (Epcot) – this is a chance to experience how holidays are celebrated across the world through the holiday storytellers.  It’s wonderful to see how different, yet similar, the holiday spirit is around the globe.
  • Candlelight Processional (Epcot) – select  narrators tell of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem while a gospel choir provides an unforgettable score.  For Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Edward James Olmos of Stand and Deliver fame will have the honor of narrating the Christmas story.
  • Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights (Hollywood Studios) – in its final year, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is one that is sure to give you goosebumps.  It is sad to believe that this fan-favorite will be going away after this year, but we are always crossing our fingers it will come back someday.  In the meantime, don’t miss your chance to see it one last time!
  • Meet Santa Claus – just before Santa gets on his sleigh to deliver gifts in time for Christmas Day, he is available to meet and greet Disney guests.  At Magic Kingdom, you can visit Candy Cane Garden (by City Hall) from 10am to 5pm on Christmas Eve.  There is also a chance to meet Santa at Disney Springs on 12/24, across the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop from noon to 10pm.

What other tips do you have for me?

Your wish is my command!  Here are a few more tips to make the most of your Christmas trip:

  • Plan as much as you can ahead of time.  This especially includes fast passes and dining reservations.
  • Consider eating at off-peak times to avoid the long lines at quick service locations.
  • The parking lots can get full pretty quickly.  Disney transportation, if available to you, is a good alternative.
  • If there is a phased closure at the park and you can’t get in at a certain time of day, keep checking.  Restrictions may be lifted later in the day.
  • Get in the holiday spirit – dress up in your favorite ugly Christmas sweater, or wear your favorite Disney Christmas outfit.
  • There will be long lines – at bag check, at the rides, at quick service locations, at stores.  As the Fairy Godmother would say, even miracles take a little time!  Despite the waits, would you rather be anywhere else than at Disney at Christmas?
  • Find a PhotoPass photographer, and ask for holiday-themed Magic Shots!
  • There are many holiday-themed treats to choose from, so indulge before the New Year’s resolution kicks in!

With that, I will turn it over to you.  What else do our visitors need to know if they are going to Disney World on Christmas?  What tips have worked well for you when you visited during the holidays?  Sound off in the comments below!

Hi there, I’m Myra and I’m a huge Disney nerd and addict!  I’m also an Independent Travel Agent at World of Magic Travel, the preferred agency of Chip and Co. and Disney Addicts.  I’m happy to help you plan a holiday trip you’ve always wanted, at no cost to you!  Please visit my page or send me an email at [email protected] to get started!

Top 10 Things Not to Miss at Disneyland

Disneyland1
Disneyland1

Disneyland

My little family has been going to Disneyland every year for a few years now, and while we haven’t done or seen EVERYTHING the parks have to offer, we do have a few things that we just can’t miss each time!  This is also a great list for first time visitors to the Disneyland Resort. Here’s my top 10 things not to miss:

10. Dole Whip and Enchanted Tiki Room

This is a 2-in-1 and has become somewhat of a tradition for our family. The show is entertaining and will have you singing along with the birds and flowers! There is nothing better than sitting in this air-conditioned classic while enjoying a pineapple soft serve during some of the hottest parts of the day. Though, I admit, I don’t like pineapple so I really don’t like Dole Whips (gasp!) but my husband and kids love them. Tip: the line for Dole Whips is considerably shorter inside the Tiki Room area than on the outside.

9. Visit Toon Town

Visiting Toon Town involves going to see Mickey Mouse in his movie barn, visiting Minnie Mouse at her house, playing at Goofy’s house and exploring Donald’s boat. Toon Town is a great area for younger kids to meet some favorite characters and to play/get some energy out! My children especially enjoy Goofy’s garden and we’ve started taking annual pictures of them sitting inside the pumpkin there. Toon Town closes earlier than the rest of the park, so make sure you visit earlier in the day.

8. Meet Princesses at the Fantasy Faire

We just recently made this a must-do on our trips. My daughter is now at an age where she really enjoys meeting characters and princesses are at the top of her list! You meet 3 princesses inside the Royal Hall at the Fantasy Faire and they can change throughout the day. We’ve met Snow White, Belle, Mulan, Ariel, and Cinderella. You’ll also have an opportunity to meet a princess outside the Royal Hall. That’s usually Merida or Rapunzel (we’ve seen both). Meeting the princesses has given my family some of the best character interactions we’ve had. Definitely a must-do if you have a princess fan at home!

IMG_1372

7. “a bug’s land” in Disney California Adventure

This one probably won’t make the top 10 list for most, but having younger kids puts this land on my family’s must-do list. Most of the attractions in this land are geared towards younger children, but are easily enjoyed by the whole family. My children love Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train and on a hot day, we all love to cool off at Princess Dot’s Puddle Park. “it’s tough to be a bug!” is a fun 4D show located in this land and is hosted by Flik from Disney-Pixar’s “a bug’s life”. Note: “it’s tough to be a bug!” features brief bouts of darkness, loud sounds, and strange smells and sensations. It may be too scary for your little ones.

IMG_1548

6. Jedi Training Academy

This is a must-do for the young Star Wars fan in your life. Children ages 4-12 are randomly chosen to participate in the training. They recite the sacred Jedi Oath, learn how to use a lightsaber, and even “fight” a Sith Lord. My son is 5 but is too shy to participate, so I’ve only seen my nieces and nephews do the training. We have watched this show numerous times and it never disappoints! This attraction will be changed up a little for Season of the Force this fall. Tip: if your child wants to be chosen, make sure they are very enthusiastic-jump up and down, say “pick me!”, wear a shirt that stands out.

5. Mickey’s Soundsational Parade

This is one of my favorite parades at Disneyland. I love the music and can’t help but sing along every time we watch it! There are fantastic floats lined with your favorite Disney characters and there’s even a Frozen themed float that starts off the parade. Another amazing parade, that I hope stays long after the 60th anniversary celebration is over, is the Paint the Night Parade. If you can visit the resort between now and September 5, 2016, be sure to watch this dazzling electrical parade!

4. Take a Spin on Mad Tea Party

The Mad Tea Party has been one of my favorite rides since I was a little girl and I have proudly passed that on to my son. We have to ride at least once during our trip, and it’s even more fun at night. This is definitely a classic and is not to be missed (unless spinning rides make you sick).

IMG_1236

3. Cars Land in Disney California Adventure

Like visiting Toon Town, visiting Cars Land involves multiple attractions. Radiator Springs Racers is a must-do for everyone that meets the height requirement. It’s one of the best movie-themed rides at the Disneyland Resort! The other ride in that land is Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and it is one of my favorite rides as well. I can’t help but smile and laugh as it swings back and forth! Luigi’s Flying Tires is receiving a complete overhaul and will reopen next year as Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters. Also, be sure to witness Cars Land as the neon turns on at night. It’s truly magical! Tip: get your fastpass for Radiator Springs Racers as soon as the park opens-they run out quickly!

IMG_4308

2. World of Color

One of the most spectacular water projection shows is World of Color at California Adventure. So far there have been 3 versions of this amazing night show-the original World of Color, World of Color-Winter Dreams, and World of Color-Celebrate! Featuring soaring fountains, fire and laser effects, stirring music and towering screens that come to life with new and classic Disney animation, this show is definitely not to be missed! You can even play the Fun Wheel Challenge game on your mobile device while you wait for the show to start. Tip: be sure to either pick up your fastpasses early or make a World of Color Dining package reservation so you can get a good seat.

1. Fireworks

Disneyland has the best fireworks shows I’ve ever seen! They are so magical and make for a great way to end your day at the happiest place on Earth. The current fireworks spectacular is the Disneyland Forever Fireworks. This show was created specifically for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration and it is amazing! You’re surrounded by a mesmerizing mix of breathtaking pyrotechnics and jaw-dropping visual effects. There are 3 different areas you can watch from: Main Street U.S.A., in front of “it’s a small world”, and the Rivers of America. Tip: get a seat on Main Street U.S.A. for the Paint the Night Parade then when it’s over, step into the middle of Main Street for a great view of the fireworks.

What things make your “not-to-miss” list at Disneyland? Let me know in the comments!

I would love to help you plan a visit to the Disneyland Resort so you can check off your “must-do” list! My services are free and I will help you find the best deal for you and your family. You can email me at [email protected] or follow me on Facebook.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Do you love Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Or, have you never been and wish you could see what it’s all about? Disney Parks Blog’s “Unforgettable” series of live streams will be at Magic Kingdom on Sunday, December 6, 2015 to show you what it’s all about!

Coverage will begin at 8:15 p.m. EST with the “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas Time Parade”. This is a amazing parade that combines all the wonders of Christmas with the magic of Disney! You will have a chance to see marching toy soldiers (gives me goose bumps every time), dancing gingerbread men, plenty of your favorite characters, and Santa Claus himself.

Holiday wishes

At 9:30 p.m. EST live streaming of “Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season” fireworks will begin. There is no other firework show like it, with Cinderella Castle in the middle of it all!

To watch these amazing holiday events check out the Disney Parks Blog on Sunday, December 6, 2015. They will be posting just before showtime.

While both of these experiences will be incredible to watch live from home, there is nothing like seeing it in person! Disney World is transformed during the holiday season and in my opinion, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party tops it all. If you would like information on planning a trip to take part in the holiday festivities email me at [email protected]. Merry Christmas!

I have just fallen in love with these beautiful hand crafted Disney inspired flower crowns from Etsy designer CaleighsCrowns! I am just in awe and the simplistic beauty they hold.

There’s such a fantastic assortment of crowns, and many of them even have Mickey ears worked in! These would be perfect for a day at the parks, or an outing with friends. I think I need a Christmas pair to rock instead of a Santa hat this year!

Check out some of my favorites below:

There’s plenty more! I’m absolutely head over heels for these beauties! Would you wear one of these elegant floral mouse ear crowns?

Get ready to blast off, as the new Guardians of the Galaxy  Disney Tsum Tsum collection flies in on December 15, 2015 at Disney Parks and the Disney Store!

This upcoming collection is out of this world! Our favorite rag tag pack of galactic heroes will be in miniature super plush form to save the galaxy! It looks like all of our heroes are here with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot. If you thought the Dancing Groot from Funko was cute, well then you’re in for some cuteness overload with this Tsum Tsum version of Groot!

I got really excited when I saw the Lion King Tsum Tsum sneak peek today, but wow I squealed out loud when I saw this one! I can’t even contain my excitement for more Guardians of the Galaxy! Be sure to check out the Disney Store on December 15 if you want these kawaii heroes!

Which one will be first on your list?
