Talk has erupted in various Disney Facebook Groups about seeing and smelling a fire in the Magic Kingdom area. We are unsure if they 2 incidents are linked but I imagine some of the local news stations in Orlando will have more information soon.

Walt Disney Pictures has just announced Philippa Boyens as the screenwriter for the newest movie franchise “Merlin.” Based on the Merlin Saga by T.A. Barron, the Disney version will tell the story of the wizard’s early years. The 10 book series starts off with “Merlin: The Lost Year” (Book 1) which is the setting for the movie. Philippa Boyens screenwriting credits include adapting two incredible book series “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” making her the perfect choice to bring the Merlin stories to the big screen.
“The Merlin Saga”has been in the makings for years. It first started off at Paramount where producer Lorenzo de Bonaventura (The Transformers) was ready to take on the task along with screenwriter, Simon Kinberg of “X-Men Apocalypse. The rights then were transferred to Warner Bros which assigned Donald DeLine to produce and screenwriting first to Ed Whitworth and then to the author T. A. Barron. Finally in the hands of the Walt Disney Company, Philippa Boyens will do a fine job of providing viewers with an unforgettable story and characters to love.
I love Merlin and can’t wait to see what the Walt Disney writers have in store for us. Follow me on chipandco.com for all the Disney news.

As part of the Disney Dream’s dry dock in October, Disney Cruise Line added a tasty, new sweet spot was added to this amazing ship. Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats, themed after scenes from Wreck-It Ralph, creates a new culinary experience onboard the Dream and here you can find ice cream, gelato and a candy shop!
As you enter into the shop, the smell of fresh baked waffle cones fills the air. Enjoy one of these with one of the 20 flavors of gelato or 16 flavors of ice cream, all handcrafted, and featured daily. You’ll also find six tempting sundaes on the menu, including two signature sundaes served in souvenir cups. Vanellope Von Schweetz’s Race Kart Sundae features three scoops of ice cream and five toppings, while Ralph’s Family Challenge is meant for sharing, and includes eight scoops of ice cream and eight toppings. If you are familiar with the Mickey’s Kitchen Sink sundae found at the Plaza Ice Cream Shop in Magic Kingdom or the Kitchen Sink found at Beaches and Cream at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, you will get what I’m talking about here! Deliciousness!!! You are also able to create your own sundae and choose from 28 toppings, a number of sauces, and different fresh fruit compotes. Don’t forget the freshly made whipped cream!! Are you hungry yet? I know I am!
If you are more of a baked good kind of traveler, then don’t miss the huge dessert case filled with eclairs, designer cookies, cupcakes, candy apples, tarts and specialty brownies. There’s also a candy assortment, featuring signature lollipops atop King Candy’s lollipop tree.
One of the really cool features of the shop is the animated leaderboard showcases the day’s trending sundaes. All six sundaes start the day on the board, and as they’re purchased, the sundaes move up the board to highlight the guest favorites that day. If you have trouble deciding which one to indulge in, this might help make your decision.
Has anyone tried this sweet spot yet? I’d love to hear what you had and how it tasted!
And, if you are dying to get onboard to try this place out, email me at [email protected]. The Disney Dream sails on many itineraries throughout the year and I would love to help you find the perfect one to send you on your culinary journey!!!
With Christmas just around the corner I’ve been gazing at every Disney themed ornament I see. However, I was really intrigued by these ornaments from Etsy designer CelebrateOrnaments. Not only are they gorgeous for any Disney tree, but many of them serve as beautiful memory pieces, that would be great to hang up as home decor any time of year!
These charming rustic works of art are hand cut, sanded, and distressed by the designer, which make them a cherishable gift for any Disney lover. I especially love the runDisney ornaments! They even have an autograph upgrade option, which allows the back to be signable to have your favorite characters sign them at the parks!

Hi my name is Monica and I have a Walt Disney World obsession. If any of these signs sound like you, then you may have an obsession as well. It’s okay though, together we are united!
1. Walt Disney World is the ONLY choice – when it comes time to start planning your next vacation, the decision is already made as to where you are going: Disney World, of course! The idea of a tropical beach, far away destination, or big city adventure doesn’t even cross your mind because you have been mentally planning your next WDW vacation since the day you last left the park. Disneyland? Nope! Not when you can travel to magical Disney World instead!
2. History Buff – it’s great to just have fun when you are at Disney World, but a truly obsessed fan knows all the ins and outs. You can casually explain the significance of each window on Main Street, you know when each park was built, and you have some historical anecdote for almost every attraction. Bonus obsession points if small tour groups form around you as you make your way through the park.
3. eBay Master – you know that you’re obsessed with WDW when you spend hours of your free time scouring eBay for that perfect vintage piece to finish off your collection. Plates, mugs, figurines, pennants – anything with the Walt Disney World name on it needs to be yours!
4. Cinderella Castle – in your mind, Cinderella Castle is the ONLY castle and you get slightly offended when someone confuses Sleeping Beauty Castle and Cinderella Castle. Your number one dream is to stay a night in the Castle Suite.
5. You Don’t Need a Map – you have the layout of all four parks memorized, so there is no need to carry a map, stop to ask directions, or search frantically for a restroom.
6. Spontaneous Singing – it is almost impossible for you not to burst out singing the Main Street Trolley Show, Wishes!, or Festival of Fantasy music at some point during your week.
7. Disney Chef – whenever you are looking for a new recipe, you immediate start searching the internet for tips on creating your favorite Disney World dish. One of my greatest accomplishments is perfecting the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup from Le Cellier.
8. Hidden Mickey – you see hidden Mickeys throughout the day and have to fight the urge to point them out to everyone around you.
9. Promotional Material – you know you’re obsessed with Walt Disney World when you re-watch the vacation planning DVD to ease the pain of not being there just a little bit.
10. Say it Loud and Proud – You know you are obsessed with Disney World and you don’t care who knows it! You wear your obsession like a badge of honor (bonus points if you actually have a badge and please send me the eBay link on where you found it)!
Do you have a Walt Disney World addiction? Tell me your favorite Walt Disney World memory in the comments below!
P.S. – Be sure to join our Disney Addict Group to help with your Disney Obsession!
MouseMingle.com is dedicated to Disney fans around the world. It’s hard enough to meet people who share your common interests, but for many Disney fans it’s even harder to find someone with the same passion for Disney. Now, those people have a place to share their Disney interests, favorite characters and attractions, and photos to help you find your Mickey or Minnie!
When Dave Tavres first came up with the idea for MouseMingle.com in 2011, he was meeting women through online dating sites but they rarely shared his love of Disneyland or Walt Disney’s creations. For some of those women, they questioned his interest because they just didn’t understand. It took several years before he came back to the idea and started building the site. “I want MouseMingle.com to be a place for people find someone who really shares their same passion, not just a list of interests.” Disney fans tend to be more dedicated to their hobbies than non-Disney fans. Many visit the Parks multiple times a month, they travel across the Country to do RunDisney events and they’re often tagged as ‘The Disney person’ at their jobs because of their collections or knowledge of the brand.
In the mid-2000s, Dave was one of the Tour Guides at Disneyland who led the “Walk in Walt’s Footsteps tour” and later went on to be an engineer on the Disneyland Railroad, operating Walt’s locomotives. “I sincerely believe those are two of the best jobs at any Disney Park in the world. Getting to share the stories about Walt and the building of such an iconic place like Disneyland and later getting to run Walt’s ‘big toys’ were some of the best times of my life. Now, I’d like to make new memories with someone who understands that excitement.” Single at 41, Dave is a self-proclaimed ‘gregarious geek’ who previously worked at Microsoft and is now at Sony, counting his years at Disneyland as a fun ‘break from real life’.
MouseMingle.com is like many online dating sites where users can create and browse profiles, upload photos and rate other user’s pictures all for free. To send and receive private messages or do online chat, users can upgrade to a recurring “Deluxe” membership for $12.55 per month, or a “Premium” membership for $120 per year, which both allow for unlimited messages and chatting. When a user creates their profile, many of the usual dating profile questions on other sites are omitted. Instead, you’ll choose from a list of your favorite Disney songs, characters, and Parks, with open-ended questions like “What’s your best Disney memory?”
For a few of the common dating profile questions, they tend to be ‘themed’. For example, instead of choosing a favorite pet, users are asked if they are a “Cheshire cat person” or if they prefer Pluto. Clearly a site built by Disney fans, for Disney fans.
Dave says it’s hard to know who’s single when you’re at a Park or event like D23 or at Walt Disney’s Barn, or any number of places where Disney fans converge. MouseMingle.com plans to offer fun ways to find others and make a meaningful connection. “In the future we plan on organizing group events to bring members together in more open settings so that they can mingle with other single Disney fans.” He also says plans include organizing events at locations around the world, not just Anaheim and Orlando.
“We’re just starting out and want feedback from members to help make the site better over time. Over the coming year we’ll include other languages and refine profile questions and hopefully add unique features and events for the single Disney fans out there.”
The website opens on December 1, 2015.
Don’t forget, Chip and Co has it’s very own singles Facebook page. Quite a few couples have met in that group and are on their way to marriage, including our very own Chip!
It’s almost that time of year again, time to bring out our elf friends for a little fun and mischief! Why not infuse a little Disney magic into your Elfcapades this year?
One of the things I enjoy most about the holidays now, is getting to have some fun with our little elf friends around the house. Being Disney Addicts we like to throw in some Disney inspiration when ever we can. We like to bring our elves out the day after Thanksgiving and have 2 little guys to spread the cheer. With more elves comes more mischief though, so I’m always coming up with new ideas to keep the party going all season long. We have the mainstream “Elf on the Shelf” and the adorable “Elf-Magic” elf, so you can see these elfcapades can be done with any type of elf you want. Even the new Frozen Hide-and-Hug Olaf who is out this season can get in on the fun.
10. Pixie Dust Surprise.
A little bit of Pixie Dust!
An easy one to set up is the Pixie Dust Surprise, I like to sprinkle a small trail of glitter from my child’s room to where the elves are hanging out and then splash them with a bunch of glitter. To really bring out the magic, cut out a silhouette of Tinkerbell in a pretty paper and leave it behind as her “shadow”, or a fun little sign. This way your child will know this is the real deal from Tink herself!
9. An Ornamental Gift.
Elves with Disney Ornaments.
Every so often our little guys like to bring home gifts from the North Pole, or other enchanted places they may visit on their nightly travels. It’s usually seasonal things like a new ornament for the tree, or a jingle bell from Santa’s Sleigh. Finding an ornament featuring your child’s favorite character and, having the elf deliver it makes it feel more special. I usually get a new Disney Ornament or 2 for my son each year that is something he’s very interested in. Last year it was Monster’s University and Planes ornaments. This year it will be Frozen. He loves that the elves bring them, because he feels like Santa picked them out just for him.
8. A Disney Story Book.
We love bedtime stories, and I am always looking for ways to keep encouraging reading. Around Christmas time I like to switch up the usual repertoire of books for some Holiday stories. This is when the elves go hunting one evening to find our Christmas stories. There are lots of Disney Holiday books to be found, I got this Cars “Jingle Wheels” book at the dollar store. The elves being found reading also sets a great example, and usually inspires some extra story times!
7. The Mickey Countdown.
Usually around December 1st is when we pull out our Mickey Christmas Countdown. We found him at Hallmark and absolutely adore him. Another great idea is making an Advent Calendar from card stock or construction paper, with Mickey Heads, and on the back of each Mickey a fun Disney quote when you take it off and turn it over.
6. Mini Mickey Ears.
This is one of my favorite ideas for the elves. Sometimes you can find ear hat ornaments, or miniature ear hats that you can use, but if not you can DIY! I took black felt and cut out 2 circles and glued them to a Santa hat for the Elf on the Shelf, and for the Elf Magic elf I cut out 2 pieces of black fabric in the shape of a mickey hat and sewed them together. I loved the Mickey ears so much I kept them on for a few of the other elfcapades. If giving your elf Mickey Ears doesn’t make me a Disney Addict then I don’t know what does!
5. The Disney Vacation
This one requires a little bit of planning, but is well worth it. Find a few shots of your child’s favorite Disney Park to visit, and paste pictures of the elves in them. Print them out at a 1 hour photo place, and put them inside a photo album. I chose a Disney inspired one from the dollar store of course! if your child can read feel free to put little captions with the pictures to make for even more laughs. Can you imagine your children’s surprise when they think the elf had a Disney vacation overnight?
As you can see it doesn’t have to be professional photoshopping work, just placed on any fun images. It also serves as a wonderful memory to look back on years later.
4. The Frozen Snow Fall.
One of my favorite elf shenanigans to stage is a marshmallow snowball fight. Last year I used dump trucks and bulldozers as my props, but we can make it more Disney than that can’t we? So why not have Elsa or Olaf bring in the snow? I mean it only makes sense! I don’t have an Elsa, so I used Olaf, but you can use any of the Frozen crew if you have them or hey all of them can join the personal snow flurry party! As a personal note I usually use a large sheet of wax paper for under the marshmallow staging grounds, this makes for a much easier clean up when it’s all said and done.
3. The Hidden Mickey.
Hey Danielle there’s no Elf in this picture, what kind of game are you pulling here? That’s the fun part! Sometimes the elves like to play hide and go seek. Leave a note somewhere easy to find like the Christmas tree, or if you’re really into it like me the elf condo you have set up on the entertainment center. Cut out some “hidden” Mickeys and leave them around the house, with each one giving a clue to where to look next! This is a great game that makes for a few laughs, and I like to reward the hunt at the end by having the elves waiting with a lollipop or crispy treat that can be enjoyed after activity time later in the day.
2. Mickey Treats!
Milk and Cookies!
This is one I started last year. Baking cookies for Santa is an old tradition that I love to keep. So to get things prepared and ready I like to have the elves bring a cookie mix and items needed for making cookies. A Mickey cookie cutter is a must for us and you also can’t have cookies with out Milk for Santa right? The elves bring out the Mickey Christmas cup for Santa’s milk, and of course some Mickey cookies for us too! If you don’t have time to bake a batch of cookies don’t worry! Simply take pound cake slices, use the Mickey cutter on them, and TA-DA!! Mickey shaped cookie cakes that take 30 seconds. Everything tastes better when it’s shaped like Mickey!
1. The Disney Announcement!
This year we are taking a short trip to see the Castle lighting at Magic Kingdom. I figured what better way to announce it to my son than to let the elves have the honor! If you are planning a holiday Disney get away the elves can get in on the fun too! Not going to Disney for the holidays? No worries! Plan a Disney movie night and have the elves announce “You’re getting a Disney movie night!” rent some holiday Disney favorites like Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas, and decorate with some tinsel and cut outs. Use your cookie cutter to make Mickey shaped cheese, fruit slices, and cakes and have fun! Bringing the magic home to every day life is what being a Disney Addict is all about!
I’m sure there’s plenty more Disney themed shenanigans to get into, and I’d love to hear yours! Once the fun begins I’ll be doing more elfcapdes #disneyside style so stay tuned!
