Movie Review – Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War

civil war
civil war

civil war

There’s always the stigma for sequels to be bigger and better than the movie preceding it. The films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in particular, have even more pressure, as each film in their now thirteen-film saga has to set up new characters, new movies, new conflicts, and also be bigger and better than the movie preceding it. In typical Marvel fashion, “Captain America: Civil War” stares down these challenges, and with help from the who’s who of Marvel movies and the great Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony, deliver yet another strong, enjoyable adventure film.

The last time we saw Steve Rogers (aka Captain America), he was fighting valiantly alongside his fellow Avengers against the evil robot Ultron, a battle which ended with an entire city in Eastern Europe being destroyed to save the world. After another battle with the Avengers causes casualties oversees, the heroes of the world are forced to face a public that starts to distrust the accountability of the good guys who seemingly answer to no one. This then leads to world governments looking to lock down the actions of the Avengers, a decision that starts to turn the Avengers against one another.

Rather than following the well-trod formula of superhero movies wherein the heroes swoop in to save the day from the clutches of some villain, followed by much applause and congratulations, “Civil War” examines the flip side to superheroes: being private citizens waging international wars for global peace, and having to make certain compromises to obtain it.

Captain America, being the scientifically constructed image of the ideal American soldier, often seems to be perfect and incorruptible, but the film showed very clearly where his weakness and flaws stem from. As his past best friend and now possible terrorist Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) crashes chaotically back into Cap’s life, the ultimate boy scout breaks all the rules to make sure his friend is safe, even if it means turning his back on his teammates. It definitely strengthened his connection to the audience and opened doors to see the turmoil within other Avengers, giving insight of why they continue to fight their weird wars.

As the jewel of the Marvel franchise, any film featuring the Avengers needs to be full of great action scenes, of which Civil War has plenty. From one on one fight choreography to practical stunts and car chases to full-out CGI madness, each set piece succeeded in thrilling the audience, especially in one particular free-for-all battle wherein multiple heroes are given their time to shine with their cool abilities.

The film also opens the door for many other franchises, introducing King T’Challa (The Black Panther) and featuring great cameos like Scott Lang (Ant-Man). But without a doubt, the introduction fans will be talking about the most is that of the Marvel Universe’s resident wall-crawler Spider-Man. We finally get to see him in the Marvel cinematic universe, and he does not disappoint. Tom Holland portrays a near-perfect Peter Parker, making him lovable, intelligent, humble, slightly awkward, and at times, inappropriately talkative during fights. It will be hard to wait a whole year before we get to see Spidey in his own film in 2017.

There is a lot of plot to deal with in “Captain America: Civil War”, and the movie could have easily become too segmented or muddled because of it. However, against all odds, the film manages to weave together all the arcs, emotions, and character backgrounds beautifully, with each character having grown in some way.

I can’t recommend this film enough, and even consider it to be my favorite of the Marvel movie to date! The film hits theaters on May 6th. Which superhero are you most excited to see in action in “Captain America: Civil War”?

Minnie Mouse Inspired Hair Bow

In the warm summer months I’m always wearing my hair pulled back, but I still want it to look cute too! That’s why I love Disney themed hair accessories, like this sassy Minnie Mouse Inspired Hair Bow by AFairyTaleBowtique on Etsy.

Rock your every day pony tail with the style of the original Disney fashionista. This lovely bow has all the colors that help represent Minnie Mouse’s iconic look. The designer carefully handcrafts and secures each bow by hand. She puts lots of love into her bows, and takes lots of pride in crafting them. The bows are always a good size, and you get a choice of a french barrette, or alligator clip, which ensures a comfortable fit. If you haven’t seen her bows before you should definitely check them out, some of them features the most adorable embellishments, like her Ariel bow is adorned with a tiny silver fork! Disney bows are also fun for visiting the Disney Theme Parks, because as much as I love Mouse Ears, sometimes I need something a little daintier to wear. You can even get matching bows for your MagicBands, how cool is that?! You can get the Minnie Mouse bow here!

Retro Style Kissin’ Mickey & Minnie Signature Art Disney Sneakers

Mickey Minnie Sneakers
Mickey Minnie Sneakers

Mickey & Minnie Sneakers

As a woman obsessed with Disney style, I of course LOVE Disney inspired shoes. I completely fell head over heels, for this pair of adorable signature art Disney Sneakers.

Mickey & Minnie are the original Disney sweethearts, and have been sharing lots of laughs and love since their debut in 1928. This beautiful pair of sneakers comes from the Bradford Exchange and features a vintage style kissin’ Mickey & Minnie. The Kissin’ Mickey & Minnie Signature Art sneakers show off these two and their timeless style & affection with this adorable new fashion debut. The Bradford Exchange always does the most adorable, retro shoes, like the bedazzled red Minnie Mouse sneakers we looked at a few months ago.

Vintage-Style Kissin’ Mickey & Minnie Signature Art Sneakers

Mickey & Minnie Sneakers 2

These are officially licensed by Disney and beautifully crafted, the eye-catching rubber-soled women’s shoes are exceptionally comfortable, with stitched canvas uppers in a soft gray with a chic black outlining. The toe of each shoe features vintage-style Disney art of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse puckering up for a kiss when you put them together. An extra splash of magic is showcased on each shoe too, with their replica signatures on the outer sides, and a silvery sculpted Mickey Mouse silhouette charm that dangles from the laces of both shoes. For added fun, the inside of the shoes feature the word “SMACK!!” on a polka-dot background. These are a delightfully unique pair of Disney art shoes, that would be great not just for every day wear, but also for touring the Disney Parks. How cute would these be for Dapper Day at Walt Disney World or Disneyland? I can see these paired perfectly with a cute red and white Minnie style polka-dot dress. These are a fantastic addition to any shoe lovers collection.

I think my favorite part of these sneakers, is that you can tap your toes together to make them kiss! Would you wear these fun vintage style Disney Sneakers?

the Jungle book 2

Disney’s latest film “The Jungle Book” came to U.S. theaters April 15th, to an incredibly successful opening weekend of around $80 million. Since then, “The Jungle Book” has been on fire, remaining as the #1 film everyday since its opening.

Now just having finished its third weekend run, has brought in $255.8 million domestically. Internationally, it’s brought in $452.8 million, bringing it to a total gross of $708.6 million.

“The Jungle Book” already holds numerous box office records, including being the 6th highest grossing Disney live action film in the U.S., Disney’s third highest grossing film in China, and the highest grossing Hollywood film ever in India (seems very befitting, seeing as how the film takes place in the jungles of India!).

Disney seems to be on quite a roll this year, with both their 2016 releases, “Zootopia” and “The Jungle Book” both having brought in over $700 million! Both films were amazing, and is making me all the more excited for the rest of their 2016 movies.

The Force is Strong with This Jedi Mom Star Wars Shirt

Jedi Mom Shirt

I’m totally a Star Wars mom, and sure I tend to love the Dark Side characters quite a bit, but I’d like to think I am also a Jedi Master Mom too! This cute Star Wars Jedi Mom shirt by ShineDesignsTees on Etsy says exactly how I feel, and in glitter too!

Those who are strong with the Force, or just a mom fighting the galactic fight will love this Star Wars glitter shirt. Gold and Silver glitter contrast around the white for a bold look against the black fabric. The shirt comes in a variety of style options including regular t-shirt, v-neck and racer back tank styles. These also come in a wide range of sizes too, which many of us ladies always appreciate. I’m personally loving the v-neck tee pictures above. You can get your own from Shine Design Tees on Etsy Here!

Are you a Jedi Master Mom, or do you feel more like Darth Mama some days?
