Poinsettias Take Center Stage at Walt Disney World

The holiday season at Walt Disney World wouldn’t be complete without a touch of floral magic. Each year, over 100,000 poinsettias and other festive plants transform the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs into a vibrant winter wonderland. But have you ever wondered how these iconic red blooms make their way into every picture-perfect corner of Disney?

A Year in the Making

Creating this floral spectacle is no small feat. Behind the scenes, Disney’s skilled horticulturists spend nearly a year planning, selecting, and preparing for the holidays. At the heart of this operation is a 3.5-acre tree farm behind Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where the team has nurtured plants for over five decades—even before Walt Disney World opened.

With over 100 varieties of poinsettias to choose from, the design process starts early. These plants come in a range of colors, from traditional reds to crisp whites and unique shades of pink, adding pops of color throughout the parks. Some of the most striking displays include the towering 8-foot poinsettia “trees” in EPCOT’s World Celebration Gardens, which stand as seasonal showstoppers.

The Magic Makers

For Allison Brooks, a horticulture area manager who began her Disney journey as an intern 26 years ago, bringing holiday landscapes to life is a labor of love.

“I love to use my horticulture skills to bring our parks and resorts to life, especially during the holidays,” said Allison. “After all the flowers are nurtured and planted, it becomes a special moment to showcase the team’s talents and share this experience with our guests.”

Allison and her team—made up of gardeners, arborists, and more—work tirelessly in the early hours of the morning to plant poinsettias and other festive foliage. Their efforts ensure the parks are picture-perfect when guests arrive, enhancing experiences like the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays.

Caring for Your Holiday Blooms

Inspired to add a touch of Disney magic to your home? Allison’s top tips for caring for poinsettias include:

  • Sunlight is key: Place your poinsettia in a sunny spot for optimal growth.
  • Water wisely: Water when the soil’s surface feels dry but avoid overwatering.
  • A second bloom surprise: With proper care, your poinsettia might bloom again next year!

A Vibrant Holiday Experience

The next time you visit Disney World during the holidays, take a moment to appreciate the incredible work that goes into creating these magical displays. From the lush gardens of EPCOT to the vibrant corners of Disney Springs, these floral masterpieces bring holiday cheer and unforgettable memories to guests of all ages.

Thanks to the dedication of Disney’s horticulture team, the spirit of the season truly comes alive—one poinsettia at a time.

Reflections Disney Lakeside Lodge Hotel Construction Goes Vertical at Fort Wilderness

Reflections Disney Lakeside Lodge Hotel Construction Goes Vertical at Fort Wilderness 1

The long-dormant Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge project appears to be back on track, as construction activity ramps up on the shores of Bay Lake at Walt Disney World. While Disney has yet to officially confirm the revival of this deluxe resort, the signs are hard to miss. Cranes have arrived at the site, located on the former River Country water park grounds, marking the first significant construction progress since the project was paused in 2020.

Cranes Signal a Comeback

Three cranes are now stationed at the site, with up to six expected as construction progresses. According to filings with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the cranes will remain on-site through August 2025, although that timeline can obviously be extended if needed. The site development aligns closely with the original plans for Reflections—a 10-story, nature-themed resort set to feature over 900 hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas.

The FAA filings are not the only clues hinting at Reflections’ return. Recent documents submitted to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) reference new electrical infrastructure being installed by Chen Moore and Associates under the name “Project S,” which is widely believed to be the codename for Reflections.

A Vision Resurrected

Originally announced in 2018, Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge was designed to offer a tranquil escape inspired by the natural beauty of Bay Lake as part of the Disney Vacation Club resort portfolio. Positioned between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, the hotel was envisioned as a deluxe retreat with unique accommodations and immersive storytelling. However, the project was shelved in 2020 due to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, and pre-construction work was dismantled, leaving many to believe the resort would never come to fruition.

A Glimpse at What’s Next

While Disney has not officially restarted the project, the activity at the site suggests that the resort may soon take shape. The arrival of cranes, coupled with infrastructure updates and ongoing filings, indicate that Reflections is moving closer to becoming a reality. Once complete, the resort will add another luxurious option to Disney’s lineup of deluxe accommodations, potentially offering breathtaking views of Bay Lake and easy access to Magic Kingdom and other nearby attractions.

Waiting for the Big Announcement

For now, Disney fans will have to keep an eye on the construction site and wait for an official announcement. With work now visibly underway, Reflections—A Disney Lakeside Lodge could soon become the next must-visit destination for those seeking a serene getaway infused with Disney magic. Stay tuned as more updates emerge about this exciting addition to the Fort Wilderness area!

A Straightened View of the Eiffel Tower

For years, fans have chuckled at the “leaning Eiffel Tower,” a quirky side effect of the screen’s curvature. This update addresses the issue by adjusting the sequence’s perspective. Riders now approach the tower from much farther away, offering a more accurate and upright view of the Parisian landmark. The smoother approach feels more cinematic, ensuring a breathtaking moment for guests soaring over the City of Light.

Soarin' Updates Eiffel Tower and EPCOT World Celebration Ending 2

A Celebration of World Celebration

The final scene, showcasing EPCOT, now reflects the updates to the World Celebration neighborhood. As riders glide toward Spaceship Earth, the former Fountain of Nations and Pin Central have been replaced by the redesigned plaza. The scene features the illuminated EPCOT logo embedded into the ground near a central planter—though, true to life, these lights have not been operational for months.

Tinker Bell continues to sprinkle her pixie dust as fireworks burst into the night sky, forming a familiar Mickey silhouette behind Spaceship Earth. Combined with the ride’s iconic score, the updates are a fitting finale to this global journey.

Enhanced Visuals and Clarity

In addition to these changes, the entire ride film appears sharper and more vibrant, indicating a general upgrade to the projection quality. The clearer visuals make every scene—from the sweeping Swiss Alps to the majestic Iguazu Falls—even more stunning, adding to the attraction’s enduring appeal.
