Universal Studios Store Expansion Construction Update โ November 2024
Excitement continues to build at Universal CityWalk as construction progresses on the eagerly anticipated expansion of the Universal Studios Store. Announced in September, this ambitious project will greatly expand the footprint of store by adding two new dedicated areas for fans of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World. With an expected opening in May 2025โperfectly timed with the debut of Universalโs Epic Universeโthe expansion promises to bring even more magic and adventure to Universal Orlando Resort.
A Magical Addition The Wizarding World of Harry Potter section will feature merchandise from all three lands at Universal Orlando, including Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, and the upcoming Ministry of Magic, set to open in Epic Universe. Fans can look forward to an enchanting shopping experience filled with wizarding robes, wands, and house-themed gear. Additionally, a new dedicated Butterbeer counter will be introduced, offering guests a chance to indulge in their favorite wizarding treat alongside other specialty items.
A Super Expansion The Super Nintendo World area will capture the vibrant and whimsical spirit of the beloved Nintendo video games. The entrance will reportedly be designed to resemble the colorful landscapes from the world of Mario and friends, welcoming guests into a treasure trove of character-themed merchandise. Shoppers can expect to find items featuring Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and moreโa perfect preview of the magic coming to Epic Universe in 2025.
Construction Progress Since the announcement, significant progress has been made on the site. The former locations of Cinnabon and Quiet Flight Surf Shop were completely demolished to make way for the expansion. Framework for the new store sections is now in place, and ongoing electrical and preparatory work suggests that construction is well on track. While the site is still a bustling construction zone, the glimpses of progress hint at the exciting additions to come.
Whatโs Next? With the expansion slated to open in May 2025, the countdown to this new shopping experience has officially begun. Universal Orlando has promised immersive environments and exclusive merchandise that will make these store areas must-visit destinations. Whether you’re a wizard, a gamer, or just a fan of unique souvenirs, this revamped Universal Studios Store is shaping up to be a highlight of Universal CityWalk.
The Grinchโข & Friends Character Breakfast is a holiday tradition at Universal Orlando that combines festive food, whimsical atmosphere, and the chance to meet the mean, green one himself. Hosted on select dates from November 22 through December 30, this sold-out event has returned to its rightful home in Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous, and it does not disappoint.
Atmosphere After a temporary relocation to Confisco Grille last year, the breakfast is back in Seuss Landing, where the Dr. Seuss-inspired circus theme adds a layer of immersive charm. Dining under the whimsical big top, surrounded by Seussian decor and holiday cheer, elevates the entire experience. Guests can even wave to riders on the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride! The setting feels magical, with Sam-I-Am posing for photos, Whos spreading holiday cheer, and the Grinch presiding over the festivities in his signature mischievous style.
The Feast This year continues the single entrรฉe format introduced in 2023. While online opinions have been mixed, we found the food delightful. Breakfast begins with a shared platter of fresh muffins, yogurt, and seasonal berries. Entrรฉes, like the Green Eggs & Ham and Cindy-Lou Whoโs Belgian Waffles, are deliciously prepared and served hot. The tater tots topped with sausage gravy in the Green Eggs & Ham stole the show, while the waffles with green sugar crystals, fresh berries, and crispy bacon made for a sweet and savory treat. Coffee was plentiful, and the wrapped cookie at the end added a festive touch. Though we didnโt try the Sour Apple Slush, other diners raved about its sweet and tangy flavor.
Character Interactions The highlight of the event is, of course, meeting the Grinch. While Day 1 of the event was reportedly plagued with long waits, Universal quickly resolved the issues. During our visit, the process was seamless. After placing drink orders, guests were directed to the Grinch meet-and-greet area with minimal wait time. The Grinch delighted guests with his snarky humor and playful anticsโour onion, wrapped in a green produce bag, was an unexpected hit!
Itโs worth noting that the standard Grinch meet-and-greet in the park had a standby queue exceeding three hours by the time we finished breakfast. The efficiency and exclusivity of this event ensure a stress-free encounter with Whovilleโs finest.
Final Thoughts The Grinchโข & Friends Character Breakfast is a must-do for families and Grinch fans alike. From the festive ambiance to the memorable interactions, itโs a holiday experience thatโs worth every penny. The food, while not the star, is solid and enjoyable, and the atmosphere makes it all the more special.
This event has cemented itself as a beloved tradition for our family, and weโll undoubtedly be returning in 2025. If you missed out this year, be sure to book early for next seasonโitโs a canโt-miss holiday treat!
Get ready to unwrap the holiday spirit as Universal Orlando’s beloved Holiday Parade Featuring Macyโs returns for the 2024 season! From November 22 to December 31, guests at Universal Studios Florida can experience a magical evening filled with larger-than-life balloons, dazzling floats, and favorite characters from Despicable Me, Madagascar, and Shrek. The parade begins nightly at 5:30 p.m., kicking off the festivities as the sun sets over the park.
The parade opens with a flurry of wintery magic as performers in glowing blue coats and fur-trimmed skirts introduce the seasonโs sparkle. A stunning snowflake float, illuminated by swirling blue lights, sets the stage for a whimsical journey through holiday joy. Guests will spot Macyโs iconic blue star balloons adorned with snowflakes floating high above the streets, followed by a parade of characters and fantastical floats.
The Despicable Me gang leads the way with the Minions causing their signature chaos. From a Christmas tree float to a rocket-powered ski sled, their antics are impossible to miss. The highlight? Bob the Minionโs teddy bear, Tim, popping out of a festive stocking in balloon form.
Next, the characters of Madagascar take over with a tropical twist. The penguins light up the night with their “Operation Find Santa” float, while King Julien reigns from his throne surrounded by palm trees. Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman join in with their own seasonal surprises.
The Shrek crew brings a blend of humor and holiday cheer. Gingy the gingerbread man makes an entrance as a giant balloon, followed by floats featuring the Three Little Pigs, Donkey, Puss in Boots, and a Santa-clad Shrek spreading festive fun. The finale? Fiona, Pinocchio, and even the Dragon decked out in holiday flair.
The parade concludes with a heartwarming nod to classic Christmas nostalgia. From toy soldiers and nutcrackers to Santaโs grand arrival, the final floats capture the timeless magic of the season. Santa waves from his sleigh, perched atop a snow-covered roof, as artificial snowflakes gently fall and the parkโs towering 80-foot Christmas tree lights up the night.
This enchanting spectacle is included with your Universal Studios Florida admission, making it a canโt-miss event for holiday revelers of all ages. For the best views, head to the area near Revenge of the Mummy for a picture-perfect backdrop of the Christmas tree or across from Starbucks for an ideal vantage point to see the floats in action.
Celebrate the season with Universalโs Holiday Parade Featuring Macyโsโa dazzling showcase of holiday magic youโll remember long after the New Year!

When we visited the Disneyland Hotel a few days ago, there weren’t a lot of decorations out. There is a display outside which makes for a great photo backdrop. In the center is an image of a snow globe with the words “Happy Holidays” and it is surrounded by large holiday presents.
Inside, guests can see a blue sleigh filled with presents. Behind the sleigh, five white Christmas trees are decorated with lights and ornaments. We think this is where Santa meets guests but we didn’t see him while we were visiting.
You’ll find more holiday decor at Goofy’s Kitchen. The sign for the restaurant has been updated to the holiday version. Goofy’s “kitchen” is all decked out with a tree, snowman, toys and more. Guests dining at the restaurant can get a photo in that spot. Just outside the restaurant you’ll see a Christmas tree full of ornaments with one especially heavy one appearing to pull the tree over.
While the amount of decorations at the hotel don’t seem to be typical of Disney during the holidays, we are hoping more will be added to spice up the season. What do you think?
First Look at the Moana Themed HeiHei Cafe on the Disney Treasure
One of the dining options aboard Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Treasure will be HeiHei Cafรฉ, a charming eatery inspired by the lovable rooster from the Disney movie “Moana.”
Located on deck 4, midship, HeiHei Cafรฉ overlooks the Grand Hall. The cafรฉ’s ambiance is inspired by the ocean, with blue carpeting featuring floral and shell patterns. The flooring transitions to light-colored tile, leading to a counter with cushioned bar stools. Tall chairs line the central bar, and the furniture is designed using traditional Polynesian boat-building techniques.
To the left of the HeiHei Cafรฉ sign, a sculpture of the mischievous rooster himself sits atop the bar. Seashell relief sculptures frame the sign, while the alcoves housing drinks and supplies are shaped like boats. Blue tiles on the front of the bar further enhance the ocean theme.
HeiHei Cafรฉ will serve a variety of beverages, including coffee, tea, and specialty drinks. The cafรฉ will also offer a selection of snacks, perfect for a quick bite. Boat snack anyone?
A new Broadway-style stage show, “Disney The Tale of Moana,” will make its debut on the Disney Treasure, bringing the magic of the beloved film to the stage.
From the very first scene, this spectacular show takes you on a journey across land and sea, with set design and musical elements inspired by cultures of the Pacific Islands woven throughout, that inspires Moanaโs classic tale. โAn Innocent Warriorโ begins the show with vibrant dance and songs in a mix of languages including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan and Samoan. The show also includes the first stage performance of the song, โWarrior Face,โ inspired by traditional Haka.
Larger-than-life puppetry fills the Walt Disney Theatre stage throughout the show, including the largest puppet Disney Cruise Line has ever created in the massive, fiery Te Kฤ towering over the audience before eventually transforming into the gentle island goddess, Te Fiti. The show will feature several memorable songs from the film including, โHow Far Iโll Go,โ which is one of our favorites!
