SeaWorld Partners with Guy Harvey

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and world-renowned marine artist and conservationist Guy Harvey today announced a new partnership focused on ocean health and the plight of sharks in the wild.  The two organizations will partner to raise awareness of these important issues, and collaborate on science and research to increase understanding of how to better protect these critical predators and their habitats.

“SeaWorld is committed to raising awareness of the plight of sharks in the wild and the oceans they live in.  As part of our commitment that we made in March of this year, we will put meaningful dollars, research and man hours towards reducing this troubling trend,” Joel Manby, President and CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment said.  “The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Guy Harvey Research Institute have been front and center in this effort for years, and we are proud to open a new chapter in those efforts today.”

Research indicates upwards of 100 million sharks are killed every year in the global shark fishery. The Guy Harvey Research Institute estimates 73 million per year for the fin trade alone. Members of SeaWorld’s animal care team recently joined a Guy Harvey Research Institute shark tagging expedition off the coast of Mexico, tagging six Mako sharks over the course of four days.  Those tagged sharks will be followed by students and researchers at Guy Harvey’s Institute at Nova Southeastern University, and can be viewed by the public online at www.GHRItracking.org.

“The partnership with SeaWorld will ensure our ocean conservation messages and our efforts to protect Mako sharks reach a broader audience here in the United States and worldwide,” said renowned scientist, marine wildlife artist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey. “We are thrilled to gain the support of the SeaWorld team as we continue to bring educational initiatives and conservation efforts to life.”

In addition to the science and research efforts, Guy Harvey and SeaWorld will also work together to increase public awareness about ocean health and the need for shark conservation.  SeaWorld’s new roller coaster, Mako, will be a major platform for this effort.  In the queue lines for the new coaster, guests will be educated and entertained through digital platforms that provide access to the real science of sharks in the wild and ways they can help protect them with Guy Harvey himself as the host.  Elsewhere in the realm guests will have access to real-time shark tracking and videos from Guy Harvey’s vast library of compelling and visually stunning shark expeditions.  Interactive materials will also share information about shark conservation and ways to get involved.

Guy Harvey will also commission an array of exclusive paintings and apparel, which will be available only at SeaWorld.  SeaWorld will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of such items directly to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.  The world-renowned artist will be making park appearances, including the painting of a signature Mako mural for the attraction launch.

SeaWorld is undergoing a lot of redirection and striving to enhance marine life. Earlier this year they announced no more reproducing their Orcas.

We can all make a difference no matter how small. Raise awareness, clean local parks or even just recycle!

Beauty and The Beast & Big Hero 6 Attractions Announced For Tokyo Disneyland

belle1-550x259

Some exciting news for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea.

A new Beauty and the Beast themed land as well as some new attractions will be opening starting in 2019.

In Tokyo Disneyland starting in January of 2017 Grand Circus Raceway in Tomorrowland will close, then in the fall of 2017 Starlets will close as well making way for all the new changes taking place.

Beauty & the Beast area, which is what it’s being called now, will feature a Beast Castle and Belle’s Village. There will be one restaurant and some new shops in the all newVillage. They also have plans of a dark ride inside the castle where you will get a chance to ride in serving dishes, enjoying music & hopefully help break the beasts spell!

Another attraction opening in Tomorrowland will be themed around Disney’s film Big Hero 6. This will be a whip style ride that swings guests around.

Also opening will be the first full scaled indoor live entertainment theater in Fantasyland. The new theater will have 1,500 seats and home a Signature Disney type show unique to Tokyo Disneyland.

Finally at Tokyo Disneysea a Soarin type ride will be opening in the Mediterranean harbor. The name is not yet set in stone but it will take guest over sights from around the world just like Soarin Around the World in the other Disney parks.

With all of these new attractions and entertainment being offered starting in 2019, I think it’s time to start saving for a trip to Tokyo!

15 Tips and Tricks for Mastering Disney World Transportation

Monorail Full 6641
Monorail Full 6641

Monorail_Full_6641

Disney Transportation is great! Or at least, it can be. If you know some crucial tips and tricks, navigating the buses, boats, and monorail will soon become a breeze.

With these small suggestions, you can save yourself time, money, and stress.

  1. There is no parking at the Magic Kingdom: what?! How can this be?! Instead of parking directly at the Magic Kingdom, you will park at the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) lot. Once at TTC, you can then catch the monorail or ferry to the Magic Kingdom. The monorail and ferry and complimentary services and do not cost anything to use.
  2. If you are a guest of a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you will receive complimentary parking at the theme parks for the length of your stay. If you are not staying at a Disney Resort, you will need to pay for parking.
  3. If arriving to the Magic Kingdom by bus, your bus will drop you off at the Magic Kingdom and you can bypass the TTC all together.
  4. Disney Resort Hotels offer complimentary bus services to and from the parks. Buses depart approximately every 20 minutes. Approximate is a loosely used term here. For peak hours (morning and night), you will see buses more frequently. For off hours (mid-day), transportation may take a little longer.
  5. If you are using Disney transportation to reach a dining reservation, or other time-sensitive event, make sure to leave your resort at least an hour before you need to arrive to ensure that you give yourself enough time.
  6. When leaving the Magic Kingdom to reach TTC, the ferry and the monorail have almost the exact travel time. Choose the shorter line, or mix up your experience if you are visiting more than once.
  7. Buses do not travel between the parks and Disney Springs. If you would like to visit Disney Springs after a park, you will need to take a bus to a Disney resort, and then board the Disney Springs bus from there.
  8. Ferry transportation to Disney Springs is available from Old Key West Resort, Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, Port Orleans Riverside, and Port Orleans French Quarter.
  9. Stick around after the fireworks. As soon at the fireworks or evening parade ends, there is always a mad rush of guests trying to leave the parks. Stick around and enjoy the last few moments of the park instead of going in the cattle run. Shops stay open during this time and it’s a great opportunity to do some last minute shopping. Trust me, even if you hang around for an extra 45 minutes, you will still get back to your resort at about the same time.
  10. Friendship Boats provide transportation from Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club, Boardwalk Inn, and Swan and Dolphin resorts to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This boat is not a fast moving vessel – so expect to spend quite some time on the water. However, it is a relaxing ride and perfect if you are not in a hurry.
  11. The monorail only travels to Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
  12. Animal Kingdom can only be accessed by bus or car.
  13. The Magic Kingdom is within walking distance of the Contemporary Resort. Take advantage of the easy 5 minute stroll.
  14. The best way to avoid transportation stress is to plan ahead. Make sure to leave yourself plenty of time.
  15. Find what works best for you. Whether you chose to travel by car, bus, monorail, or boat – there is no right or wrong way to reach your destination. Try all of your options and pick the way that works best for you and your family.

Disney has dedicated a lot of resources to making their transportation systems as efficient as possible. However, it always helps to know a few tips and tricks before jumping on board. How do you get around Walt Disney World? Let me know your best time-saving tips in the comments.

Hilarious Zelda and Han Solo Mug Mash-up

Han Solo Mash up Mug
Han Solo Mash up Mug

Han Solo Mug

I’m not only a big Star Wars fan, but a HUGE Zelda fan, so when I found this Han Solo mug, I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. I love studiomarshallgifts designs, and I’ve even talked abut their super cute pillows before.

This mug is a fun mash-up of a moment in the Zelda game that has become a pop-culture favorite. Link is given a sword and told “It’s Dangerous to go alone” So with a very clever Star Wars twist this designer has changed Alone to Solo as a play on words meaning both alone, and Han Solo. It doesn’t hurt that Han and Leia is one of my favorite couples EVER. This ceramic travel mug features a double-walled with a press-in suction lid. A two-piece (12oz) design ensures long lasting temperatures while minimizing the risk of spillage from kitchen to car to office. It also stands at just over 6″ tall with wrap around artwork. So it won’t be dangerous when you’ve got this Solo mug to safely sip hot or cold beverages from this one of a kind mug. Get yours Here!

Are you a fan of artists doing Disney Mash-ups with other fandoms like I am?

Canadian Pavilion In Epcot’s World Showcase opens new Bar

CPM489662
CPM489662

CPM489662

According to the Passholder Club it appears that part of the Northwest Mercantile gift shop in the Canada Pavilion in the World Showcase at Epcot has been converted to a new bar.

The new bar is called Trading Post Refreshments, and is serving a variety of Canadian beers, as well as ice wines, such as:

  • Molson Canadian
  • Labatt Bourbon Barrel
  • Blanche De Chambly
  • Neige Premiere Apple
  • Inniskillin Vidal

There are also the usual non-alcoholic soft drinks (Coke products of course) and bottles of water for purchase as well.

The merchandise has been relocated within the gift shop, but not removed, so in all reality this is just a really fun addition, and not a replacement of anything in the Canada pavilion.

What do you think of the new bar added to Epcot? I think it gives guests another place to sit and relax and enjoy a cold beverage while they enjoy their day at the park!

Adventures in Babysitting Coming to DVD

On June 24th at 8pm (EDT) Disney Channel will be premiering “Adventures in Babysitting“, it’s 100th original movie! Shortly after, on June 28th, it will also be available to purchase on DVD. The DVD will include exclusive bloopers, as well as a complimentary magnetic phone frame.

I just love how the DVD cover (pictured above) pays tribute to the original poster for the 1987 movie that “Adventures in Babysitting” is inspired by:

aib

The movie stars Sabrina Carpenter (“Girl Meets World”) and Sofia Carson (“Descendants“), and is inspired by the 1980’s “Adventures in Babysitting” film that tells the story of two teenage girls who are incredibly different from one another. The two teen girls are both competing for the same photography internship, one is the reliable Jenny (Sabrina Carpenter) and the other, the living-on-the-edge kind of girl Lola (Sofia Carson). The two girls accidentally swap phones, with Lola volunteering to do a babysitting job that a family meant to contact Jenny to do. Things go a little haywire, and the film follows the girls’ hectic night that involves sneaking out to a concert, among other adventures in the big city.

You can check out the latest trailer of the film below:
