living-with-the-land-00

The Twitter universe was abuzz with excitement this afternoon after guests who were on Living with the Land Epcot were evacuated from the ride due to a small fire that started in the propulsion system of the ride. It appears the entire The Land building was evacuated, as seen from these tweets:

The ride has since opened back up, and thankfully no injuries were reported. Have you ever been evacuated off a ride at a Disney park?

Complete Your Halloween Disney Decor with a Boo To You Wooden Sign

Boo To You Wooden Sign

Can you believe Halloween is only three weeks away? Have you finished decorating yet? I’ve been loving all of the charming handmade Disney inspired Halloween decor around this year. This Boo to You Wooden Sign was inspired by the infamous song from the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parade.

The “Boo to You” sign is made using real wood. Each piece has been hand decorated combining pyrography (wood burning) for the entire design and is sealed with a two coats of high quality finish to make your decor last a lifetime. A variety of border colors are available. These signs have a fabulous distressed and rustic look.

For year round decoration, there is also her “Disney House Rules” wooden sign that has been popular too!

Are you singing “Boo to You” yet? I totally am. This “Boo to You” sign would make a great front door decoration, as an alternative to a wreath.

The schedule of shows was changed up a bit due to Hurricane Matthew and the park closure last week. Nonetheless, the live audience had a blast watching co-hosts Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz against the backdrop of Epcot’s iconic Spaceship Earth. Guests enjoyed watching the quintet host a week’s worth of shows that featured dishes of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, a taste of some of the new celebrity restaurants at Disney Springs and, of course, a visit from Mickey Mouse himself.

Check out what it looked like behind-the-scenes during the tapings:

Do it yourself Disney Caramel Apples!

20160921_073608

There are some truly iconic Disney Movie Foods out there – from the Spaghetti and Meatballs in Lady And The Tramp, to “The Grey Stuff” From Beauty And The Beast – what would those scenes be without those foods? Food really can be an integral part of a plotline or story (believe it or not), and if you’ve ever wanted to be able to recreate these dishes in your own kitchen, then YOU’RE IN LUCK – because there are actually lists out there Like This One – that make it easy to Disney-fy your menu!

mp-apples

One of my favorite parts of Mary Poppins is this scene where Bert, Jane and Michael are sitting and enjoying their caramel apples at the races, and when I saw the recipe included on the list, I knew I had to go for it. Check out how I recreated these awesome treats:

Caramel Apples
(Recipe Courtesy Of Lil’ Luna

You Will Need:
-Apples!
-Sticks (Skewers Or Lollipop sticks work well, I actually searched for “apple sticks” on amazon and that’s how I found mine!)
-Brach’s Milk Maid Caramels – 1-2 pounds (depending on how many apples you’re wanting to coat – Brach’s recommends allowing approximately 9 caramels per apple)
-2 Tbsp water per pound of caramels
-Assorted Toppings – sprinkles, crushed oreos, crushed candies (like M & M’s), chopped nuts, etc
-White Candy Melts

Directions:
1. Wash apples (to remove off wax so caramel sticks better!)
2. Remove stems and add skewers/sticks (sticking them approx. 1-2 inches into the apple)
3. Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours.

4. Melt Caramels and water together over a double boiler
OR – alternately, Melt caramels and water by continuously stirring on LOW heat in a medium
Saucepan
NOTE: You may want to melt the caramels one bag at a time because you want the caramel to stay hot for the
entire process (It starts to cool after awhile which can make the apples harder to dip in it!)

5. Dip cold apples in caramel, and place back on parchment paper. Refrigerate again.

20160920_193915

6. Dip in melted chocolate or white chocolate and dip in candy or sprinkles.
7. Refrigerate again and take out half hour before serving.

You can really make this your own creation – with different color candy melts, different toppings – my best friend and my son really loved helping create (and EAT!) these amazing treats!

Personally, I am a huge Caramel Apple fan – I love in Upstate New York and love to pick my own apples and then turn them into amazing treats – and what is more amazing a treat than dipping a freshly picked, crispy tart apple in SUGARY sweet caramel?

And if you aren’t lucky enough to be able to grab one of the amazingly intricate ones they sell at the Disney Parks, then you should try out this recipe for yourselves!

Refillable Popcorn Buckets Available Through Halloween

Popcorn

Popcorn

The refillable popcorn buckets, available at the Walt Disney World Parks, will be available at least through Halloween.  These fun buckets can be refilled with popcorn at the cost of $1.50 per refill, for your length of stay.  So whether you stay for a day, or a week, or until Halloween, you can refill your bucket.

Please note that specialty buckets, like the Cinderella Carriage bucket, are not refillable.  The refillable popcorn bucket costs $10 and comes with your first bucketful of popcorn.  Seasonal popcorn buckets make a fun souvenir collectible.  You can store items in them, as the cover fits nicely, or you can re-use them at home to serve popcorn during Disney movie nights.

Cast Members are unsure if the refillable option will continue.  We will keep our eyes and ears open when the new popcorn buckets come out in November.  Stay tuned for updates at that time.

What do you think of the refillable popcorn bucket?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

Embroidery Adds A Whimsical Touch To Your Mickey Ears Hat

Embroidery

Embroidery adds a whimsical touch to your new Mickey Ears Hat.   There are a multitude of embroidery fonts and colors to choose from. Based on your budget, you can choose to have one or two lines embroidered to the back of your Mickey Ears.  Whether you are celebrating a wedding, a birthday, or a first visit embroidery will make your Mickey Ears uniquely yours.

Whether you are having one, or fifty, ear hats embroidered the Cast Members are very accommodating.  The Chapeau has the ability to complete larger orders within the same day.  If you have a large order you want done at MouseGear, they will complete the order and ship the ear hats to your resort; provided that you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort.  Otherwise, if you just have a couple of ears to embroider you will likely be able to return within the hour to pick them up.

Font styles add whimsy to your specialty embroidery.  You can choose from Script, Fun, or Traditional.  Through the month of October, you can choose the Fun Boo to You print if you are looking to embroider some specialty ears for Halloween or for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.  The Cast Members will assist you with choosing a font based on  your needs and what your reason is for choosing to embroider your Mickey Ears.

If you select your embroidery stitching colors at The Chapeau on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom you will have nine colors to choose from.  They are gold, black, dark pink, light pink, white, purple, red, light blue, and dark blue.  If you select your embroidery stitching colors at MouseGear in Epcot, you may choose from gold, black, and dark pink.  You can also choose between basic and premium embroidery.  The basic is $3.99 and includes your name.  Please note that this is just for proper names only and is only one line.  The premium option allows for 2 lines, at $7.99 each with up to 16 characters per line.  With regards to the premium, and depending on what you want written, they may not be able to fit 16 characters to each line so be prepared for that as well; particularly for the top line as the ear hats have limited space for lettering.

If you are planning a Disney Wedding, the Mickey Ear Hats are a fun way to get everyone in the spirit of the day.  You may want to have guests names embroidered on the back of a basic black Mickey Ear hat to use as name tags for guest seating for example.  And what Disney wedding would be complete without the bride and groom sporting Mickey Mouse Ears?

If you are celebrating a birthday the Mickey Ears are a fun way to recognize that special person.  There is a pair of ears that say “It’s My Birthday” on them.  If you feel like that one is just too over the top then what about a pair of Minnie or Mickey ears to celebrate your special day?

I think we can all agree that a First Visit warrants having a pair of Mickey ears embroidered.  You can mark a first visit with a pair of ears noting the year of the visit.  For a young child, the Mickey-face ears make a great option. This year is the 45th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom.  What better way to recognize a first visit during this magical year than with the 45th anniversary Mickey Ears embroidered with your name on them?

The Mickey Ears are very popular amongst the Princesses.  Young, and not so young, Princesses look fabulous in a pair of ears.  If you want to take it to the next level, then you can color coordinate the ears to your outfits.  One example would be for you to wear your Cinderella Disney-Bounding dress with a pair of Cinderella ears.

If you have a more whimsical nature, then there is sure to be a pair of Mickey ears for you.  From Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland ears, to special event ears such as the Germany ears that are fun for the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, you are sure to find something that will match your personality.

Embroidering your Mickey Mouse Ear Hat is a great way to create a lasting memory.  So be sure to put some thought into what you want to embroider on your new pair of ears, what type of font you want to display, and the color of the embroidery thread you want on there.  Choosing what to embroider on the back of your ear hat is half the fun of owning a pair of ears!

Tomorrowland’s Carousel of Progress Has a New Sign

Sign

Sign

Tomorrowland’s Carousel of Progress, in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, has recently received a new sign display at its entrance. The sleek new look is a hexagon mounted onto a larger, rounded, triangular-shaped base.  The color scheme is a metallic gray with white lettering and blue trim.  The base is a shiny dark-blue color with a light-blue trim.

20161002_190136

We particularly like the nod to the originality of the Carousel of Progress.  The six sides of the hexagon acknowledge the six theater sections of the ride.  The white circular shape, with the hexagon in the middle, located beneath the lettering shows the shape of the interior of the ride.

There has been a number of updates in Tomorrowland this year.  There is definitely a theme of metallic blues and grays as seen in the newly painted rocks located at the entrance to Tomorrowland.  The contrast of colors, between the new Carousel of Progress sign, and the newly painted rocks, has not gone unnoticed.

What do you think of the new Carousel of Progress sign?  Please leave your comments in the box below.
