Media Exclusive Preview Review of LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS 4D Film and Newly Themed Imagination Zone

NEXO

NEXO

LEGOLAND Florida Resort invited the media and annual passholders to an exclusive after-hours event.  The free event provided a sneak preview of the new LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS 4D film and the re-themed Imagination Zone.  The event also offered give-aways, ample time to explore Imagination Zone, and complimentary snacks and beverages.

I was thrilled to be in attendance at this fun and interactive sneak preview event.  The attendees were divided into two teams: Team Macy and Team Clay.  I was part of Team Macy.  The first adventure for Team Macy was to visit and explore the re-themed Imagination Zone, set to open May 27, 2016.    Upon arrival, we were offered cookies and bottled water. We then had time to explore the newly themed areas of Imagination Zone.  The four new areas are Water Zone, Creation Zone, Bulding Zone and Flight Zone.

Water Zone encourages guests to imagine and design awesome sea creatures with virtual Lego bricks through the use of touch-screen technology.  When your sea creature is complete you send it to swim in the immersive floor-to-ceiling underwater coral reef.  Guests will find strategically placed bins of Lego bricks throughout the space.  Youngsters can create sea life models to display on the baseplates mounted to the wall.  These wall-mounted baseplates are a concept that sets Legoland a step above the rest with regards to understanding the needs of children.  Children do not have to take apart their creation before they leave.  They can proudly display their model on a base plate for other visitors to see.

The Creation Zone area is located at the entrance of the Imagination Zone.  This space is designed along a curved corridor with padded Lego pits filled with thousands of Lego bricks.  The Lego display baseplates are scattered along the the walls in Creation Zone too. While children are imagining and building their creations, family members can choose a Lego-shaped ottoman to sit and relax on as they wait.

The new Building Zone area provides guests the inspiration to dream, invent, and experiment with Lego bricks.  This space is designed to inspire future engineers and designers to test their skills.  On display you will find a lighthouse, a design school and an earthquake-proof tower.

Flight Zone is showcased as the centerpiece of the re-themed Imagination Zone.  Visitors to this area are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to build flying machines.  Once their contraption is complete, they compete against others in a race along curved suspended ziplines.

The next excursion for Team Macy was to the Wells Fargo Fun Town Theater to view the 4D film LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS: The Book of Creativity, opening at Legoland Florida Resort on May 26, 2016.  Upon arrival we were offered popcorn and bottled water.  We were then handed 4D glasses and ushered along the red carpet and into the theater.  Once seated we played a rousing game of “Know Your Knight.”  Team Macy had to guess the Knight based upon certain characteristics.  The five knights are Clay, Macy, Aaron, Lance and Axl.  After this there were giveaways of LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS building sets.

Prior to viewing the film we were introduced to the LEGO Kid CEO Tommy Parker via an exclusive preview of his upcoming television commercial.  The lights went down in the theater and the 12 1/2 minute movie preview began.  The storyline is primarily about teamwork and immerses guests into the film.  We join five young knights on their quest to keep the Book of Creativity out of the hands of Jestro, the Book of Monsters, and their Lava Monsters.  I  enjoyed the special effects presented throughout the film.  There were moments of fog, wind, and lights.  I also found the sound quality to be excellent.  I have seen many of the LEGO films and movies and I believe this is the best one yet.

If you are looking for a fun, immersive and interactive family adventure then a visit to Legoland Florida Resort may be exactly what you are looking for.  You can easily spend the better part of a day exploring the newly themed Imagination Zone and viewing the film LEGO NEXO KNIGHTS: The Book of Creativity.  These new offerings will inspire your imagination while encouraging you to explore and invent together as a family.  Awesome awaits at Legoland Florida Resort!

Brand New Short Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday

winnie1

This October marks the 90th birthdays of two major British icons: The Queen, and Winnie-the-Pooh! To celebrate both of these milestones, a new illustrated short, entitled “Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday” has been released. The short tells the story of Pooh and his friends going to take birthday gifts to Her Majesty the Queen, as well as some of their adventures they encounter in England.

The short is narrated by Jim Broadbent, who was honored to tell this new story:

“I have been a fan of Winnie-the-Pooh since I was a boy, in fact I named my very first and much loved teddy ‘Pooh’ and that can only have been after the A. A. Milne character. I’ve loved being part of this story to celebrate The Queen’s 90th birthday and Winnie-the-Pooh’s 90th anniversary; it’s been an honour to narrate such an iconic story and I want to wish both Her Majesty The Queen and Winnie-the-Pooh a very Happy 90th!”

Winnie-the-Pooh and the Royal Birthday” is made perfectly complete with illustrations done by Mark Burgess, who modeled the styling after classic Pooh-illustrator E. H. Shepherd.

Movie Review – Alice Through the Looking Glass

This past weekend, I had the incredible experience of seeing “Alice Through the Looking Glass” in 3D at the Real D headquarters. Having enjoyed the first movie, and being an avid lover of the Disney animated “Alice”, as well as the Lewis Carol books, I was both excited yet unsure of what to expect from this new film. It has attached to it a different director, and an all-new original story, yet the whimsical familiarities and stellar cast we have come to know and love. Now I’m here to share with you our official, spoiler-free review!

The 2010 “Alice in Wonderland” film was directed by Tim Burton, which meant “Alice Through the Looking Glass” director James Bobin had some very big shoes to fill! Bobin and the design team definitely stayed true to the iconic “Burton” look of the film, which I was very happy about. But what I really loved is that Bobin really made the film it’s own entity, it didn’t feel like he was trying to direct how Burton would direct, instead he kept the Burtonesque look of the film, yet the tone felt very different. A different tone definitely felt necessary for this film, as our characters are all 6 years more experienced, and have developed much over that time.

Not only did Bobin deliver in giving us very rich characters who have grown in wisdom and wonder (and in the Queen of Hearts case, head circumference), but every actor gave their all. It wasn’t just a casual re-visit to Alice, Hatter, or the White Queen. Instead, we learn more about their backstories, vulnerabilities, and their hearts.

Johnny Depp of course gave another wonderfully quirky performance as the Mad Hatter, but in this film audiences get to experience a more human side of him. Depp delivered a perfectly balanced performance of whimsy and reality.

Anne Hathaway (the White Queen) also got to explore the richness of her character in “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” I felt in this film her character had more dimensions, and seemed more relatable as opposed to being the perfect and beloved Queen.

Helena Bonham Carter gave us another stellar performance as the delightfully hotheaded Queen of Hearts. We also get to learn more about her childhood, and how she became a villain. For fans of the “Maleficent” movie, you will definitely love the focus of a villain origin story. In this film, we also got to see more sisterly interactions between the two queens.

New to “Alice Through the Looking Glass” is Sacha Baron Cohen’s character, Time. Time was one of my favorite parts of this film, and helped tie the film altogether. Not only through comedic moments, but by having moments of empathy for both the Queen of Hearts and Alice.

Mia Wasikowska (Alice) did an incredible job at playing an adult Alice. We always just see Alice in all adaptations as a child, so Wasikowska was placed with the task of figuring out how Alice would be as more of an adult, yet still believing the unpossible can happen. Her character was innocent and kind, yet brave and more sensible. It was incredible to see this character developed so much from the first film, and I couldn’t get enough of watching her portray a form of Alice that “Wonderland” fans have not yet seen before.

Aside from the stellar cast and amazing directing job, the film was of course visually stunning. There was so much focus on details in the sets, costumes, and props, which made every moment of “Alice Through the Looking Glass” a work of art. I would definitely recommend seeing the film in 3D, as I feel it enhanced the story and felt perfect in having the audience truly feel they are in Wonderland.

The film hits U.S. theaters May 27th.

Lilly Pulitzer & TROPHY ROOM Join Disney Springs’ Town Center

Lilly Pulitzer & TROPHY ROOM

Recently the Town Center opened up at Disney Springs, formerly known as Down Town Disney. With the new section open, many new stores have come to Disney springs, including the newest edition Lilly Pulitzer and TROPHY ROOM.

Lilly Pulitzer & TROPHY ROOM are completely different from each other, but are both popular brands with a wide appeal.

Lilly Pulitzer is vibrant, bright, and whimsical featuring a variety of playful prints. The apparel and accessories are done in the iconic “Lilly Style” which makes every nook and cranny of the boutique reminiscent of its Palm Beach roots.

The TROPHY ROOM is a cool store showcasing sleek sneakers and exclusive merchandise. This location is the first of it’s kind, and is founded by Marcus Jordan, who is the son of the legendary NBA player Michael Jordan. Marcus created the trophy room from inspiration of the real-life trophy room of his father. There’s even charming pictures of the family in the shop.

Trophy Room

Being a South Florida girl, my heart is always with Lilly! Her iconic print style has become a symbol of South Florida beach life, and I’m sure the new shop in Disney Springs will be just as lively and bright! I hear the dressing rooms even have hand painted murals inside them.

Cute and Fun Disney Cord Protectors for Cellphones and Tablets

DIsney Cord Protectors

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t obsessed with insanely cute Disney themed phone accessories. So I would also be lying if I said I didn’t totally love these Disney Cord ProtectorsCute and Fun Disney Cord Protectors for Cellphones and Tablets on Amazon!

I’ve admitted before that I usually surf my phone and play games while it’s charging, and that ends up making for lots of damaged cords. I loved the spiral ones that we found earlier this year, but these are even easier to use, and still just as cute! These are perfect to protect your cables, they are simple to use. These are made of high quality materials, so they will not only save your cables but they will not break. The great part about these is they fit and clip over the cord easily where the cable meets the charging end that goes into the phone. Which is where they usually break, in fact everyone of mine has broken there.  These will add extra strength at this point to prevent breakage and save your cable.

Not only do you get a set of three to make your phone look extra cute while charging, but it will save you money on cables in the long run. They have a bunch of Disney characters available too, Stitch, Sully, Mike Wazowski, Scrump, Winnie the Pooh and more!

You can get your very own set of Disney Cord Protectors here!

What about you, do your cords break all the time, or have you ever tried one of these fun cord savers before?

Press Conference – Alice Through the Looking Glass

IMG_4121
From left to right: Anne Hathaway (White Queen), Suzanne Todd (Producer), and Mia Wasikowska (Alice)

For anyone who has seen the “Alice Through the Looking Glass” trailers, it’s evident that the film has the same dazzling visuals and whimsical stylizing as the first movie. To tie in perfectly with the look of the movie, the “Alice Through the Looking Glass” Los Angeles press conference was held at the elaborate Montage Beverly Hills hotel. Tall, ornate ceilings, golden chandeliers, candelabras…it truly felt like a fantasy setting.

As I walked into the room the conference was being held, the stage was set-up impeccably, with gorgeous upholstered chaise lounges that was a perfect nod to Colleen Atwood’s costume design for the film, complete with delicate and colorful teacups, saucers, and tea time treats.

IMG_4112
The scenery made me reminiscence and relive the wonderful experience that was “Alice Through the Looking Glass” all over again.

Speaking at the conference was director James Bobin, as well as producer producer Suzanne Todd, and actresses Anne Hathaway (the White Queen) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice).

IMG_4147

James Bobin discussed how it was quite an exciting challenge to figure out the appropriate balance to pay homage to Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland”, and the iconic style of this film franchise that Burton created, while also making sure it was true to his own directing style. It was crucial to him for “Alice Through the Looking Glass” to feel like a separate movie from the first, yet be cohesive. He was more than willing to step up to this task, and he said with such a stellar cast and crew attached to the film, it was an honor and opportunity of a lifetime that he couldn’t pass up directing. Bobin explained that in order to achieve his vision for “Alice”, he wanted to make sure lots of attention-to-detail was paid to people, objects, and settings in the background; for audiences to be like Alice by digging deeper and focus on what’s going on in the world around you, not just what’s right in front of us. What also excited him about being a part of this franchise was his longtime love for Lewis Carol, author of the Alice in Wonderland books, which he has loved since childhood.

IMG_4127

Whereas Bobin’s love for “Alice” came from the Lewis Carol books, producer Suzanne Todd’s introduction to the world of Wonderland was by going on the Alice in Wonderland dark ride at Disneyland as a child. Todd said making the film was quite an experience, since there are countless visual effects and every single detail in the film is very stylized, there were constantly decisions needing to be made. She said that it goes to show what a talented crew there was behind the film, as they were able to collaborate and work together to effectively make the decisions on all the aspects of the film that were needed.

IMG_4156

Actress Mia Wasikowska had the incredible opportunity with this film to re-visit the Alice character that started her acting career, and described it as “pleasantly unexpected” and “humbling”. Like Bobin and Todd, she has been a fan of “Alice in Wonderland” since childhood, with her introduction being the Disney animated classic. Wasikowska talked about how she loves getting to play Alice since she is a strong female lead in a major motion picture, and these roles can be rare to come across. She loves that the “Alice” movies have many female lead characters.

IMG_4151

Anne Hathaway has an impressive Disney royalty resume, having played a Disney princess twice in the both “Princess Diaries” films, and the White Queen in “Alice in Wonderland”. She was excited to be back for round 2 of her role as White Queen in “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” but with quite a different twist from the first film: she gets to play the Queen both in present day and in the past. Hathaway loved being able to explore the White Queen’s backstory with this film, as she felt it made her character deeper, and more relate able to audiences. Hathaway discussed how she is incredibly proud to be a part of the Disney family and the “Alice” films, as she finds it is very important for kids to feel like they can do, like Alice, the un-possible. And she agrees with Wasikowska, that the fact that there are strong females present in these films makes them a unique, yet important milestone in Hollywood today.

Hathaway became a fan of the Lewis Carol stories as a teenager, during a time where she felt very isolated she found kinship in his writings. She feels that the “Alice” stories help create a feeling of comfort to those who feel out of place in this world.

The cast and crew’s love for “Alice” that they shared at the press conference is clear to see illuminated on the big screen. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” was evidently full of passion and dedication for the story and characters, and having a team that contained such love for the world that Lewis Carol created made for an impeccable movie. You can check out our full length official review here. The film comes out May 27th, and is definitely one that’s not to be missed!
