Is Disney working on a Live Action The Little Mermaid?

There has been endless exciting news coming from Walt Disney Studios lately, including the recent announcement that Emma Stone will be playing “Cruella” in a live action movie about the villain. It has also been confirmed that Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda will star in a “Mary Poppins” sequel directed by Rob Marshall.

And with “The Jungle Book” continuing to be a box office sensation, and the recently released teaser trailer for “Beauty and the Beast” being the most viewed teaser trailer of all time (with approx. 92 million views), it only makes sense that execs at Disney would start to brainstorm what their next big project will be.

One big Disney favorite beloved by millions that is now beginning to gain more consideration is a live action adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Little Mermaid.” Disney has already made almost every form of “The Little Mermaid” imaginable, in addition to the animated classic they’ve produced a mini stage show at Walt Disney World, created a dark ride at some Disney parks about the story, and it has even been on Broadway. Next weekend at the Hollywood Bowl there will also be a special live “Little Mermaid” concert featuring Rebel Wilson and Sara Bareilles; the fandom for “The Little Mermaid” is still going strong 27 years after its original release.

According to a Deadline exclusive, Disney production chiefs have been mulling over a script that contains a different take on “The Little Mermaid” story, and is currently being evaluated on whether or not they should proceed to produce the script.

Seeing how wonderfully done the live action Disney princess movie “Cinderella” was, I would definitely be on board to see Ariel’s story brought to the big screen again in a different light.

Disney has opened the 3rd track for Toy Story Midway Mania in Hollywood Studios early and guests are already experiencing shorter lines. Do You Even Speak Whale? Finding Dory Glitter Shirt

New Etiquette Guide Announced for Shanghai Disneyland Visitors

You may remember a while back when Shanghai Disneyland opened up it’s Metro Station outside the gates to Disneyland, that many “visitors” rushed to check it out, and destroyed the common areas outside the park. They ruined landscaping, they urinated outside publicly, and they vandalized Disney property. In addition to that event, it appears there was an issue with guests behavior at the Shanghai Disneyland Trial Opening earlier this month as well.

CNN reports that due to the behavior of those individuals, there will now be strict new etiquette guidelines for guests of Shanghai Disneyland . There are 6 new rules (aimed at locals) in an “etiquette guide” that have been announced by Shanghai officials to be set in place for the June 16th opening of the park. The new guide warns tourists against littering, being rowdy, vandalizing, cutting in line, damaging the landscape and other “uncouth behaviors” such as lying down on the ground.

We sure hope this helps, because if things continue this way, it is bound to be bad news for the success of Shanghai Disneyland. What are your thoughts on the new Etiquette Guide?

Disney celebrates Speak Like A Whale Day at Walt Disney World & Disneyland on June 11th

Coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland on June 11th, 2016 Disney will be celebrating Speak Like a Whale Day. Guests will be able to take advantage of a bunch of fun events to celebrate this fun new Finding Dory Holiday just before the movie release on the 17th.

Here are some of the events to check out at the Disney Parks:

Guests at Disneyland Resort in California, Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney Cruise Line ships will receive a complimentary button to celebrate the day on June 11th (while supplies last).
At the Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort, families can dive into “undersea” themed activities, including a live DJ, games and giveaways. Young guests can attend “Whale Speak University” and give speaking the language a try.
At The Seas with Nemo & Friends in Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort, guests can learn about the real-life counterparts of the characters from the film and see them in their massive 5.7-million-gallon saltwater aquarium home. Experts from Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Team will be on hand throughout the day to help guests find Dory and her friends and get a closer look at their world.
Dory and some of her new friends from Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” have joined Crush at the Turtle Talk with Crush attraction at Epcot and Disney California Adventure park. Guests can meet Destiny the whale shark, Bailey the beluga whale and Hank the “septopus.”

The Story Behind Elliott the Dragon’s New Look

Fans of the 1977 “Pete’s Dragon” film got a big surprise when a picture was revealed recently of the new live action rendition of Elliott the dragon. The huge difference? Well, other than CGI versus hand drawn, the dragon is covered in fur!

Director David Lowrey, in an interview with Empire, explained that the idea of Elliott being furry was conceptualized from the very start of the film’s process:

“When I went to pitch the movie to Disney, I said ‘I want him to be a furry dragon’. Pete is supposed to be cuddling up with the dragon, so let’s make him furry.” But his decision to create a furry beastie has more reasoning behind it than simply Pete’s (Oakes Fegley) comfort. “I wanted him to feel not like a Game Of Thrones or Harry Potterdragon.”

“A lot of [Elliott] is a dog, because people relate to dogs, but I’m a big cat person. There’s a seagull in there, and a tiger. Ultimately, it comes down to trying to make a 20 foot tall pet.”

It’s exciting to see that Lowrey has taken into careful consideration the heart of the original “Pete’s Dragon” film, while still thinking outside the box to make this year’s upcoming adaptation its own entity.

The full summer lineup of the Sounds Like Summer Concert Series has been announced for 2016. Some of the world’s hottest rock tribute bands will perform at the open-air America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase at Epcot from June 5 to July 23.

Concerts are included with regular admission to Epcot and showtimes are at 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 8:00pm daily.

New Finding Dory Trailer Just Released

It’s hard to believe that after thirteen years of waiting, we are now less than a month away from the release of “Finding Dory“! We’ve been able to see some exciting trailers so far, as well as close up looks at lots of new characters that are a part of this film.

Today Disney released the most in-depth trailer for “Finding Dory” yet! We get sneak peeks at all of the new characters, and lots of incredible looking shots of the Marine Life Institute setting. And of course, Dory is as loveable and comedic as ever:

I remember seeing the first “Finding Nemo” how awe-inspiring the beautiful ocean scenery and animation was, and can’t wait to revisit this world again on the big screen when it hits theaters June 17th!

A Bird’s Eye View of Walt Disney World Offered at Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre

Have you every wondered what it might be like to have a birds-eye view of Walt Disney World from the sky? Well wonder no more. Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre, located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, offers a variety of parasailing experiences.

You can choose packages to include one person, or the whole family. Each experience offers a one, or two, person adventure. The parasail boat can carry six people for each excursion. Guests lift-off, and land, from the boat without getting wet. You will reach a height of between 450-600 feet above Bay Lake and have views of the Walt Disney World Resort that are second to none.

Upon arrival, you will check in and sign a waiver. Once you board the parasail boat you will have a safety briefing from your First Mate as the Captain begins to pull away from the boat dock. You will be fitted for a life vest and then be placed into the harness straps. Once the boat has reached a specified location on Bay Lake, you will go to the back of the boat to be attached to the parasail lines. While this may generate a moment of speculation, never fear because in just a few moments you will be airborne. The lift-off is quite smooth and similar to riding Soarin’ with a bit of added excitement.

My Captain was Dave and my First Mate was Mike. These two guys make a great team and are very knowledgeable about parasailing. Dave took charge of the boat and Mike gave me the safety briefing. They were both very good at making me feel at ease as I told them this would be my first-ever parasailing experience. Mike explained everything from where to hold onto the straps, if I felt the need, to how to place the harness straps around the backs of my legs while airborne. Next I went to the back of the boat, sat down, got strapped to the parasail line, and up I went. I was able to see the Walt Disney World Resort with a 360 degree view. I could see the four parks, the new construction at the Wilderness Lodge, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in all it’s glory. One of my most nostalgic moments was seeing River Country, Disney World’s first water park, which closed forever in September 2001.

I would recommend that you bring a Go-Pro, if you have one, to capture these 10 minutes of your life. It is windy up there so I would not recommend bringing your phone or camera as many of these items have been lost to Bay Lake, never to be seen again. If you do not have one then you may want to consider purchasing the digital camera package that is offered.

As a person who is typically afraid of heights, I can honestly say this was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life. Now I know why birds like to soar and fly. If you are looking for a lifelong family memory, a new adventure, or that next magical moment then Sammy Duvall’s Parasailing at Disney’s Contemporary Resort is the way to go. Happy sailing!

Walt Disney Studios latest film “Alice Through the Looking Glass” just had its star-studded red carpet premiere in Hollywood last night, May 23rd. Cast members Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), Anne Hathaway (White Queen), Mia Wasikowska (Alice), and Sacha Baron Cohen (Time) were in attendance. The premiere also included a live performance by P!nk, who sings the film’s single “Just Like Fire“. You can check out photos from the premiere in the gallery below:
