Inside the Build: ‘Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After’ Takes Shape
A behind-the-scenes view of the construction of “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After,” the new show set to debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, has been shared by Disney, revealing the project’s current stage.
Disney Live Entertainment’s Instagram reel (@disneyliveentertainment) provided a behind-the-scenes view of the “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” construction, showcasing crews lifting a stage frame with wires. The caption alluded to the team’s ongoing work.
The stage’s design incorporates numerous frames, intended to showcase visuals of iconic Disney villains throughout the performance. While the stage and set are under construction, it’s evident that theater seating is yet to be installed.
Debuting on May 27, 2025, in the former Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy space, “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” will feature a multitude of Disney villains, including Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent, as they emerge from the Magic Mirror.
Guests will witness these villains present their perspectives, ultimately deciding who has suffered the most injustice. This 40-minute show will feature live production numbers.

FCC Chairman Prepares to Investigate Disney’s DEI Policies
The Walt Disney Company may soon find itself under scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr revealed in a new interview with Punchbowl News that he is finalizing a letter to Disney and ABC concerning their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
In the interview, Carr stated that the FCC has a responsibility to enforce Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) rules and ensure broadcast license holders adhere to public interest standards. According to Carr, certain corporate DEI programs—what he referred to as “invidious forms of DEI discrimination”—may be in violation of those federal regulations. While he didn’t go into detail about specific concerns regarding Disney or ABC, he confirmed that a formal inquiry is imminent.
“We’re going to sort of get to the bottom of everything that’s ongoing there,” Carr said. “I’m working on potentially another letter here to Disney and ABC on some of their DEI and EEO practices… putting the finishing touches on that one.”
Carr’s comments come amid a broader push by the current FCC leadership to investigate how media companies implement DEI policies and whether any of those efforts conflict with the agency’s legal standards. He previously initiated similar reviews into Comcast and Verizon.
This potential investigation is part of a broader FCC agenda that Carr described as focused on modernizing media oversight, boosting infrastructure reform, and reevaluating the regulatory environment for broadcasters. Under Carr’s leadership, the FCC has also established a National Security Council and taken action against entities viewed as threats to national security.
While no formal action has been taken against Disney yet, Carr’s remarks signal that the company’s DEI strategies—particularly within its media operations—will soon be under a federal microscope.

Meet Mermaid the Manatee: A New Face at The Seas in EPCOT
There’s a gentle new arrival making waves at EPCOT! Say hello to Mermaid, the newest manatee to join the crew at The Seas with Nemo & Friends—and yes, she’s just as magical as her name suggests.
Rescued from Florida’s Homosassa River back in February, Mermaid needed urgent medical care and a safe space to recover. Now, she’s settling into her temporary home at The Seas, where Disney’s animal care experts are helping her rebuild her strength and gain weight. Mermaid currently weighs about 525 pounds and sports a unique split tail, which charmingly resembles—you guessed it—a mermaid’s tail.
Mermaid isn’t the only manatee at The Seas. She’s joined by Cider and Mino, who arrived earlier this year:
Cider, who currently weighs 850 pounds, was orphaned in 2023 but later adopted by a mother manatee before needing care. She made her way to EPCOT in early February.
Mino, weighing in at 480 pounds, was orphaned in June 2022 and arrived just one day after Cider.
Guests can catch glimpses of all three manatees from both the first and second floors of the SeaBase Aquarium. On the upper level, there’s even a chalkboard filled with manatee facts, and friendly Cast Members are nearby to share more about each animal’s story.
In a big shift, The Seas has recently transitioned from a long-term manatee care facility to a short-term rehabilitation center, now focusing on helping manatees like Mermaid recover and prepare for a return to the wild.
So if you’re visiting EPCOT soon, take a peaceful detour into The Seas—you might just fall in love with Mermaid and her fellow sea cows while witnessing Disney’s ongoing commitment to wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
Revving Up Progress: Test Track Transformation Speeds Ahead at EPCOT
The transformation of Test Track at EPCOT is racing right along, and if you’ve strolled by the attraction lately, you’ve probably noticed some major changes taking shape.
Construction crews have been hard at work giving this fan-favorite thrill ride a sleek new look—and the latest update brings a fresh coat of futuristic flair. White paneling has officially been added to the overhang, a modern touch that hints at the streamlined experience in store when Test Track returns.
Just a few weeks ago, crews were spotted pouring concrete at the front of the overhang, setting the stage for this next phase. Now, those glossy white panels are beginning to give the structure a clean, updated aesthetic. But that’s not all—pavement in front of the attraction is still very much a work in progress, with sections torn up and bare dirt exposed beneath. In the center, a circular hole surrounded by cinderblocks and new paneling is beginning to take shape, teasing some possible changes to the queue or entrance area.
This reimagining marks the second major overhaul for Test Track, and it’s shaping up to be a big one. According to Disney, the new experience will celebrate “today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future.” Sounds like a nostalgic nod to the original World of Motion and a high-tech ride into what’s next—all in one high-speed package.
Test Track is set to reopen in late summer 2025, and with all the visible progress, excitement is definitely building. Until then, fans will have to settle for peeking through construction walls and imagining what kind of futuristic thrills await just around the bend.
Start your engines, EPCOT—Test Track 3.0 is on its way!
