DINOSAUR Roars On: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Attraction to Remain Open Through 2025
Disney has provided an update on the closing timeline for DINOSAUR, the thrilling attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The ride, set to be replaced by a new Indiana Jones-themed adventure, will remain open throughout 2025 before bidding farewell to make way for the upcoming “Tropical Americas” land, Pueblo Esperanza.
While an exact closing date for DINOSAUR has not been announced, Disney confirmed that the attraction will continue to operate for the entirety of the next year, giving fans ample opportunity to experience its prehistoric thrills.
The closure of DinoLand U.S.A. will occur in phases, with the first phase commencing on January 12, 2025. This initial phase will see the closure of TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. However, other DinoLand staples, including DINOSAUR, will remain open for the time being.
Pueblo Esperanza and New Attractions
Pueblo Esperanza, the “Tropical Americas”-themed land replacing DinoLand U.S.A., was first announced at Destination D23 in 2023. In addition to the Indiana Jones attraction, the new land will feature an “Encanto”-themed experience and a giant wood-carved carousel.
The Indiana Jones attraction will take guests on an all-new adventure set in an ancient Mayan temple, where Indiana Jones is on a quest to uncover the secrets of a mythical creature. Interestingly, the ride’s track layout is expected to be similar to both the current DINOSAUR attraction and Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye at Disneyland Park.
The new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets guests explore a preserved Maya temple – and the ensuing adventure – alongside Indiana Jones.
Construction Timeline
Both the Indiana Jones and “Encanto” attractions are slated to open in 2027. While Disney had initially planned to begin construction in the fall of 2024, the South Florida Water Management District has requested additional information regarding the project, potentially impacting the construction timeline.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the construction schedule, Disney enthusiasts can rest assured that DINOSAUR will remain open throughout 2025, giving them plenty of time to experience this thrilling attraction before it embarks on its final extinction event.

But the real treasure here might just be the return of Peg-Leg Pete, also known as the Barker Bird! This squawking scoundrel was a beloved feature outside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride from 1973 to 2006. Now, Peg-Leg Pete will make his grand return, ready to spin tales of pirate lore and perhaps share a cheeky squawk or two about the goings-on in this tavern.
This latest venture promises to expand the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, giving fans an immersive new way to dive into the beloved attraction’s legendary tale. Whether you’re here to toast your latest treasure haul or simply sip on a grog and soak in the pirate ambiance, this new tavern is bound to make waves.

Last night, we had the chance to experience the magic of Universal’s 2024 Holiday Tour, and let’s just say, it was a who-lotta fun! Priced from $99.99 + tax (for ages 3 and up), this VIP adventure immerses you in the spirit of the season with exclusive perks and unforgettable holiday moments. If you’re looking to add a little extra sparkle to your Universal holiday visit, this tour might just be the perfect gift to yourself.
We started the night off experiencing the Green & Red Coconut Club in CityWalk, which is an impressive holiday overlay of the Red Coconut Club. While this is a nighlift spot, be sure to stop even if you have kids in tow! It’s an all-age venue, and the holiday decorations and theming are immersive and incredibly well done.
After our stop in the club and check-in we moved onto an exclusive meet and greet with none other than The Grinch and Max, immediately following a reserved-seating viewing of the wildly popular Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular. The reserved seats are a major perk, ensuring a stress-free experience without the long wait typical for this show. The meet and greet was a highlight—not only because The Grinch is always hilarious, but also because this is the only place you can meet Max! And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want a photo with the most festive pup in Whoville?
Guests are also treated to light bites and desserts during the tour. While the treats are a nice addition and add to the festive atmosphere, don’t arrive expecting a full meal. It’s more about enjoying a quick snack and a warm holiday vibe.
The tour also includes a photo op with Santa Claus, priority access to Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, and an after-hours viewing of The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle.
The castle show is a truly magical way to end the evening, as the lights and music bring the Wizarding World to life in a way that feels extra special after hours. The after-hours viewing also allows you to take in the magic of Hogsmeade Village without crowds!
While the tour doesn’t include a reserved viewing of Universal’s Holiday Parade Featuring Macy’s, we didn’t feel like we missed out. The combination of exclusive experiences, reserved seating, and minimal wait times makes this VIP package a festive and stress-free way to enjoy Universal’s holiday offerings.
A Few Things to Note:
The Grinch and Max meet and greet is a standout highlight, not just because of the minimal wait but also for its exclusivity. Skip the typical 3+ hour standby line and enjoy this intimate and unique experience.
While the light bites are tasty, they’re not a meal. Plan to grab dinner before or after your tour.
There have been some reports online of shortages of bites and desserts for guests on later tours, so keep that in mind when planning your evening.
Overall, the 2024 Universal Holiday Tour offers excellent value for fans of the park’s seasonal celebrations. While we were hosted by Universal for this event, we would gladly pay the fee to take the tour again. The convenience of VIP seating, exclusive access, and the magical after-hours castle show make this a must-do for anyone looking to create a holly jolly Universal experience!
