It’s a Royal Ball with the Disney Princess Sketchbook Ornaments

Princess Sketchbook Ornaments

I love that the online Disney Store has the ornament shop open! Every year I get one new princess ornament for my tree. Which is why I love that they release them year after year. The Disney Princess Sketchbook Ornament collection returns this year, with the same similar feel. I love that even though it’s not the same exact ornaments as the year before, they still match them.

Each princess is dressed in her iconic colors, and accented with glittery sparkles! You can even get personalization on the small medallion that hangs from the ribbon. I love getting to scroll through them early, so I can decide which one to add to my collection this year. I haven’t seen a Moana ornament, but I won’t lose hope! There is still plenty of time for them to deliver on a sparkling Moana Sketchbook ornament. Check out all of the heroic Disney princesses!

Disney World to Combat Zika Threat with Free Insect Repellent

Disney Zika

Chip and Co. reported earlier this week that Disney was stepping up efforts to protect visitors from the increasing threat of the Zika virus by potentially draining and refilling the pools at its abandoned River Country Water Park to tackle the issue of stagnant standing water.  Though Disney denied that this was the motivation behind the move, it would appear that they are tacking more decisive measures to make sure that guests are protected from the ever-increasing Zika threat and the mosquitoes which are known to spread the virus.

Sources at the Orlando Sentinel are reporting that Disney released an email announcing that they will begin offering insect repellent to guests at the theme parks, Disney Springs and ESPN Wide World of Sports.  Aerosol cans will also be placed in the rooms at Disney’s 25 on-site resort.  There is no news yet on how theme park distribution will occur (visitors at Chip and Co are encouraged to watch this space for further details.)  However,  it has been suggested that signs will be posted throughout the property letting guests know that mosquito repellent is available and where they can find it.

According to the Sentinel, a Disney insider issued the following statement: “In an abundance of caution we are accelerating preventative efforts throughout or property, including complimentary insect repellent to our guest with helpful guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and prevention.”

The CDC is currently documenting non-travel related cases of the Zika virus in Florida as it slowly migrates upwards from South America. Information can be found directly through the CDC website.  The virus poses the strongest risk to expecting mothers where it has been known to cause birth defect in developing infants.

Of course leaving Mickey Mouse out of the Halloween theme would be criminal, so be prepared for the Joyjoy Halloween Pumpkin Cake which is a Mickey face filled with layers of maple cream and diced pumpkin, covered in pumpkin cream, sprinkled with crunchy caramel bits, and finished off with thin plates of chocolate forming Mickey’s face and ears. Doesn’t that look delish?

disney

According to Rocket News the Disney Villain cake set and vampire Mickey cake go on sale September 1st, with the pudding joining them a few weeks later on September 16th. All three items will be available until October 31st.

A Disney Food Summer Stroll Around Disney Springs

14139413_10154625066883072_1273338408_o

It was a scorcher here today in Orlando – we were in the typical mid-90s this afternoon. Naturally, that made it the perfect day to head over to Disney Springs to cool off. This visit included stops at two places I had never been before – the Morimoto Street Food window and the Vivoli il Gelato Gelateria! I can’t wait to tell you about the experience – and the food!

14123376_10154625066693072_1774209603_o (1)

First, we grabbed lunch at Morimoto Street Food. It is tucked into the back side of the Morimoto table service location – don’t overlook it! We got to speak to Head Chef Fujinaga who told us about the street food offerings. He was inspired to create a menu of foods that would be easy to eat while walking (although they were so good they deserve your full attention) and also offered a “Daily Special” menu that varied based on guest and chef input. There was no shortage of options, and EVERYONE was leaving with big smiles on their faces! I especially enjoyed their cocktail menu – it featured more exotic ingredients like keffir lime and soba!

14087333_10154625066643072_1263488597_o

I tried the Chilled Sesame Lo Mein Noodle and it was the PERFECT choice in the hot weather. The cold noodles and the crunch of cabbage was divine. I also sampled the South Seas Slush – a combo of Black Tea, Lemonade, Guava, Mango, Pineapple, and Ginger – and can’t wait to go back for more. It was really refreshing and fresh tasting, and didn’t leave any of that fake/chemical aftertaste you get from so many slush drinks these days. I really enjoyed it!

14152128_10154625066788072_1574158920_o

After lunch we strolled over to Vivoli il Gelato for some authentic gelato. We were lucky enough to meet Silvana, a third generation gelato artisan and founder of the Disney Springs location! Silvana was delightful, and made me want to come back just to spend more time with her. She is from Italy (her grandfather opened the original Vivoli il Gelato location there!) and has a real passion for adding some magic to everything she makes (maybe that’s why she’s at Disney!). She spoke to us from behind the counter and was standing next to a huge basket of fresh peaches. When I asked about them she was excited to tell me that she came across them in Georgia. They looked and smelled so good to her she knew they needed to be the next Fall flavor – so she brought them to the store! I might be a little jaded from living so close to the mouse, but one thing we usually don’t find at Disney is fresh seasonal ingredients – so this was a real treat.

14124219_10154625066703072_1006443689_o

When it came time to sample the flavors, Silvana offered us mini cones of anything we wanted to try. I opted for Pistachio (they are imported from Italy!) and was expecting some good ice cream. Wll that was a grant understatement because this gelato was NEXT LEVEL good. Like, add it to your vacation plans good. Seriously, do it!

13621796_10154625066773072_1889396163_o

I was excited to learn that this gelato is also served at Morimoto and the Italian Pavillion in EPCOT! If you’re lucky enough to be in NYC you can grab a taste of this goodness too – it’s served inside Macy’s!

Overall, the summer stroll was a ton of fun. I am a huge fan of Disney Springs during the afternoon (it’s so much less crowded!) and when you pair it with some delicious food it’s a no brainer! I hope you will visit Morimoto and Vivoli il Gelato on your next visit!

PS – pro tip: if you can’t find a Morimoto table in the Disney app check Open Table! Shhh… don’t tell anyone else!
