Customized Cakes No Longer Available at Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

Heading to the parks over the next few months? Then you may want to commemorate that special birthday or family celebration with a fancy fondant cake at Magic Kingdom as they soon may be a thing of the past. Disney announced that they will  officially stop offering cake customization at Magic Kingdom restaurants starting December 15.  A message on the Cake Ordering Hotline (407-827-2253) currently states that as of mid-December cake orders will no longer be available for Magic Kingdom restaurants. The announcement also states that alternative options may be available in the future but there is currently no further information on what that might be.

At the moment, Magic Kingdom seems to be the only park effected by this change.  Quick calls to the Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom hotlines suggested that no official announcement has been made as to whether or not they are suspending services as well. So at the moment it looks like cakes can still be delivered to the other theme parks as well as Walt Disney World resorts. However, it does make us wonder whether changes to the whole cake ordering operation are afoot. Readers, are encouraged to check back for further information.

Guests visiting Magic Kingdom, after December 15, that want a cake to accompany their meal can still opt for the Celebrate the Day cakes but personalized options will not be available and the products are just standard vanilla or chocolate round cakes.

For those unfamiliar with the cake ordering process, Guests looking for  a special way to commemorate a birthday or special occasion can contact the Cake Ordering Hotline 6o days  – 72 hours in advance and work with staff to come up with your edible work of art. Guest can pick flavor, theme, budget, size and an array of other customized options.  These can be delivered to theme parks and resorts. Disney’s customized cakes are a real thing of beauty and are filled with lovely little pixie-dust infused touches making them an unforgettable memory.

Visitors to Disney World also have the option of ordering cakes from Amorette’s Patisserie at Disney Springs or through Disney Floral and Gifts.  Check out this article at Disney Addicts for further details.

Hopefully this Magic Kingdom move doesn’t mark the loss of a service that many Disney guests have come to love.

Newly Envisioned Menu Added to Disney Boardwalk’s Flying Fish

FF

FF

The Flying Fish restaurant has re-opened with a newly envisioned menu.  The restaurant, located on the Boardwalk at the Walt Disney World Resort, has recently undergone a lengthy refurbishment.  The new menu features sustainable fish at the center of its theme with Chef Timothy Majoras at the helm of the open-air kitchen.

20160826_202320

As you enter the restaurant, you will notice the clear glass bubble chandelier suspended from the ceiling.  The chandelier is the focal point of the entrance.  Made from blown glass, this beautiful fixture is representative of being under the sea.  The bubble chandelier is a smaller version of the Flying Fish and Bubbles chandelier suspended from the central point in the main dining area.

Menu

The Flying Fish Restaurant menu will challenge the palette.  Appetizers such as Corn Encrusted Wild Gulf Shrimp and A Tour of the Coast are sure to please.  Soups and salads include such options as the Blue Crab Bisque and Mesculin Salad.  The entrees focus on sustainable fish such as Ocean’s Bounty Sustainable Fish, Maine Lobster Nero Pasta, and Wood-Fired Spanish Octopus, Chilean Sea Bass and Rock Shrimp.

Cocktails

The alcoholic drinks menu features specialty cocktails along with wine and beer selections.  Available upon request is a wine list featuring selections from around the world.  The specialty cocktails are grouped by categories based on your preferred flavor palette. You can choose from Bitter, Tart, Savory, or Sweet.

Flying Fish has removed the word “Cafe” from its name.  The overall theme of this Signature Restaurant has created a more sophisticated atmosphere reminiscent of the golden era of oceanside boardwalk dining.  Please note there is a basic dress code to enjoy a meal at this restaurant.  Men can wear khakis, slacks, jeans or dress shirts with a collared shirt.  Women may wear capri pants, dress shorts, skirts, or dresses.

The Flying Fish menu has a variety of flavor options.  Whether you want to stop in for appetizers and a specialty cocktail, or you wish to enjoy a full meal, the Flying Fish offers something for even the most eclectic taste palette.  Dining reservations are strongly recommended.  Flying Fish is accepted on the Disney Dining Plan and will deduct 2 Table Service Credits from your meal plan balance.

What do you think of the new Flying Fish menu?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

“Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” at Magic Kingdom Debuts a New Fall Finale This Week

Friendship Faire

The live show “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Fair” at Magic Kingdom will soon include an enhanced grand finale that celebrates the fall season. Beginning September 2nd, the finale scene will feature new costumes, decor and choreography along with an original new song celebrating autumn. Presented on the Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage, “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” brings to life beloved Disney stories both classic and contemporary in a spectacular performance featuring memorable music, lively dancing, delightful costumes and special effects magic. These Boo-tiful Haunted Mansion Mouse Ears are Spook-tacular

Haunted Mansion Mouse Ears

The Haunted Mansion is one of my all time favorite Disney rides! Fun fact about me, it was actually the very first Disney ride I rode on my first trip. There is something about the wallpaper to me that is iconic and the perfect example of it. That’s why I love these Haunted Mansion Mouse Ears by MouseBands on Etsy.

Not only does Mouse Bands make some of the more comfortable Mouse Ear headbands, but she is always coming up with gorgeous design combinations. These ears have the Haunted Mansion wallpaper print with a black velvet spider web bow and a black glittered bat embellishment in the center. The spiderweb ribbon for the bow, is such a nice touch. The bow is a textured black velvet on top of black fabric, so you get the spider web in a beautifully understated way. Of course the black glittery bat gives me that perfect touch of sparkle that I always need. These are made with a rare fabric, and tend to sell out really quick!

If you’re heading to Mickey’s Not So Scary in WDW or Mickey’s Halloween Party in DL, these ears are a perfect compliment.

What other attractions would you love to see inspire Mickey Ear Headbands?

What Was Thor Doing During “Civil War”? This Short Film Answers Those Questions

Thor
Thor

Thor

I know I’m not alone in this thought: my favorite Avenger has got to be Thor. So when ‘Captain America: Civil War’ premiered with no Thor I was full of questions! Where was he, and what was he doing that was so important?? Finally my questions have been answered.

During the Marvel studios panel at Comic-Con in July a short film was released just to those in attendance, it has now been made public. While everyone was taking sides between #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan, this is all about #TeamThor.

During the filming of “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi took some spare time to put together a mockumentary about the God of Thunder. It delves into the softer side of Thor, with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) having a dorky roommate, Darryl, who helps him send peacemaking emails to Captain America and Iron Man during their Civil War clash.

This is an adorable short film for all Avenger fans. Just in time to tease the “Captain America: Civil War” DVD and Blu-Ray release which is coming up in September.

Children are Now Asked to Scan a Finger Before Entering Theme Parks

image

It appears that children under the age of ten years old are now being asked to scan their finger before entering the Walt Disney World theme parks. Disney has made no formal announcement of the recent change although WDW News Today is reporting that the new requirement went into effect last week.

This is most likely being implemented in order to help eliminate ticket fraud and resale. In the past, guests under the age of ten were not required to do a fingerprint scan or show a photo ID before entering the parks.
