Recently Disney has made changes to the smoking locations around Epcot and Magic Kingdom.

The smoking areas in Magic Kingdom are as followed:

  • Removed were the areas near the entrance to Adventureland and in Tomorrowland near Space Mountain.

The areas you can smoke are in Storybook Circus along the path to Tomorrowland, in Frontierland across from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and they added the area outside the park near to the Ferryboat queue.

The smoking areas in Epcot are as followed:

  • Removed was the area near Morocco, the International Gateway, and the spot near Mexico.

The areas you can smoke are in the France pavilion, which now joins Italy and the area between Norway and China. Also at the entrance to the Rose Garden walkway in World Showcase. In Future World you can smoke near Mission Space and at The Land pavilions.

Make sure you are watching where the signs are or you will be asked to put your cigarette out.

Turner Broadcasting Sets Huge “Star Wars” Movie Rights Deal With Disney

star-wars-80

Turner Broadcasting has paid a pretty penny for exclusive rights to the Force. The Time Warner division has struck a nine-figure deal with Disney for basic cable rights to ten “Star Wars” movies, and made a separate agreement with 20th Century Fox for the original 1977 blockbuster.

The deal will make TBS and TNT the TV home of the “Star Wars” series. The sale of the 11 movies — four of which have yet to be released — has been in the works for nearly a year. NBCUniversal’s USA Network and Fox’s FX Networks were known to have been among the contenders for the package.
The value of the deal is estimated by industry sources to be at least $250 million over a license term that runs through at least 2022, given the release schedule for the later titles. Last year’s global blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which pulled in $2 billion at the worldwide box office, is believed to have commanded a license fee of around $35 million-$40 million. The four other upcoming titles are believed to be in the same range. Turner and Disney declined to comment on financial terms of the pact.

“Force Awakens” is the first of a trilogy that will continue with “Episode VIII” in 2017 and “Episode IX” in 2019. Two stand-alone pics — “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and a young Han Solo saga — are set for release in December and 2018, respectively.

“Force Awakens” will arrive on Turner in early 2018 after completing its pay TV run on Starz. “Rogue One” will be available to Turner in 2019. The six older “Star Wars” titles will begin airing over six consecutive nights on TNT starting Sept. 20. The cabler also has “Star Wars” movie marathons set for Sept. 24-25. It will set another marathon of the six pics leading up to the Dec. 16 bow of “Rogue One” — a marketing push that will help Disney and help TNT draft off the box office buzz for the refurbished “Star Wars” universe.

“The ‘Star Wars’ movies and characters are beloved across generations, captivating audiences and breaking box office records around the globe for nearly four decades,” said Deborah K. Bradley, executive vice president of networks optimization, content strategy and commercialization for Turner. “Through this deal, TNT and TBS will be the exclusive basic cable home of one of the most iconic, enduring and valuable movie franchises of all time, giving viewers the chance to watch this amazing collection from the very beginning.”

Turner will also be granted on-demand rights to offer the movies on its ad-supported streaming and VOD platforms. It’s understood that the deal terms even specify a minimum ad load for Turner’s streaming/VOD plays of the “Star Wars” pics. That’s in part to differentiate that window from Disney’s other premium digital distribution options for the titles.

Industry sources noted that the deal was complicated by the fact that the newer titles (other than “Force Awakens”) will be coming to basic cable after more than yearlong run on Netflix. Disney set a groundbreaking pay TV output deal with Netflix that covers its theatrical releases for 2016-2018. The exposure for the titles on the streaming giant added a wrinkle to determining the value of the titles in the ad-supported cable window.

Despite the hefty price tag, Disney still retains the option of selling the newer titles to broadcast TV for limited airings after Netflix’s pay TV window ends.

Fox holds the TV rights to the original film, which it distributed theatrically for director George Lucas back in the day. Disney scooped up the “Star Wars” world with its $4 billion purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012.

Is Disney Changing The Color of Cinderella’s Castle Spires at the Magic Kingdom?

Spires

Spires

Cinderella’s Castle has been undergoing some painting as the work crews begin to cover the Castle with icicle lights for the upcoming winter holiday season.  I noticed that some of the spires are actually silver now.  Is Disney actually changing the color of Cinderella’s Castle Spires?

I decided to stroll around to the back of the castle to see what was going on.  The ever-popular Walt Disney World Crane is there in all his glory; back to photo-bomb your Cinderella Castle photos.  The Crane was supporting a man in a yellow basket who was actually painting one of the spires as I observed from the ground.  No answers were apparent, other than the fact that the crew is actually painting the spires with a silver-colored paint.  I decided to move on in search of answers.

I walked all the way around the castle to see the painting progress from different vantage points.  From whatever angle you are seeing Cinderella’s Castle, the silver color is very noticeable.  We are used to seeing the spires all in blue.  As you can see, blue is still the color of most of them.  Inquiring minds want to know what this is all about, which is why I began speaking with Cast Members and asking about why the spires are being painted silver.  I spoke with three Cast Members, and received three different answers.  Here is what I discovered.

  1.  The first Cast Member I saw told me that Disney is, in fact, painting all of the spires silver.
  2. The second Cast Member I spoke with informed me that the silver paint is the base coat and that the blue color will go over the silver.
  3. The third Cast Member I asked stated that the Castle spires are being painted silver for the upcoming winter holidays.

After speaking with Cast Members I was more curious than ever!  Therefore, I present the question to all of you, our Chip and Company Walt Disney World fans and followers.  Can you tell me if Disney is changing the color of Cinderella’s Castle spires?
