Top 5 reasons why we love the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival

F&G

F&G

The Epcot Flower & Garden Festival which starts on March 1st is probably one of my favorite events at Walt Disney World. If you have never attended this even it is a definite must do, not only is there food and music around every corner but you will see some of the most beautiful landscaping you will ever see.  In 2016 Disney expanded this amazing festival to 90 days and there will be many exciting new things to do, see and taste in 2017.

Thinking about attending this fun filled educational festival? Well here are five reasons we love Epcot Flower & Garden Festival:

  1. Garden Rocks – garden rocks is a series of concerts which include different genres of music spanning four decades, including something for everyone to enjoy! This year there will be four days of concerts each week Friday – Monday! Grab something to eat at one of the outdoor kitchens, head over to the America Garden Theater and party on!
  2. Outdoor Kitchens – there will be 15 outdoor kitchens at this year’s Epcot Flower and Garden Festival including two new kitchens. The Outdoor Kitchens offer all types of delicious plates from sweet to savory to spicy as well as some refreshing drinks. Urban Farm East is one of the more popular kitchens with its delicious savory and sweet bites this kitchen also shows people about growing their own edible produce. Here is a list of the outdoor kitchens with their locations; Urban Farm Eats Walkway near Imagination! Pineapple Promenade – World Showcase Promenade, La Isla Fresca – World Showcase Promenade, Jardin de Fiestas – Mexico, Lotus House – China, Bauernmarkt: Farmer’s Market – Germany, Primavera Kitchen – Italy, THE SMOKEHOUSE: Barbecue and Brews – The American Adventure, Hanami – Japan, Taste of Marrakesh – Morocco, Florida Fresh Between Morocco and France, Fleur de Lys – France, Cider House – United Kingdom.
  3. Interactive play gardens – the Music Garden Melodies will return this year with fun for the whole family, this interactive play area is located Future World and World Showcase and offers music and instruments for children (& adults) to play their heart out. Also returning is Butterflies on the Go, if you like butterflies (& even if you don’t) this area is full of 1,000 butterflies which are from up to 10 species, it is an amazing display. This year there will be a new “Cars” themed interactive area featuring characters from the upcoming Car’s 3.
  4. Festival Center – The festival center will be open Friday through Sunday with extended hours March 1st – March 5th. This is the location of seminars, classes and DIY. This year you will find all the information you need to grow a beautiful edible garden at these locations Garden Information Desk, Garden Theater, Horticulture Heritage, Greenhouse Stage, Fresh Epcot Stage, Spotlight Stage, Festival Stage, Intermissions Café, and Festival Center Shop.
  5. Topiaries – so explaining what a topiary is will do it absolutely no justice but these are characters cut into shrubs or trees, this sounds extremely ordinary but we are talking Disney and nothing is ordinary at Disney! There will be nearly 100 throughout Epcot and you won’t want to miss one! 2017 will bring new topiaries such as a 6-foot-tall Figment, and the return of favorites such as Anna and Elsa and Ranger Mickey. There are areas where you can have your picture taken that will include active topiaries.

Epcot becomes one of the most beautiful places on Earth at this time of year with every inch of landscape turned into colorful stunning gardens. Once you attend this festival you will want to return year after year.

Our Disney World Vacation Planning Timeline

Magic Bands

There is a LOT that goes into planning a Walt Disney World vacation, and trying to keep track of it all can be confusing! But fear not – as we’re here to help!

Check out my Disney World vacation planning timeline to help ensure you don’t forget anything when it comes to your trip:

When Should I Book My WDW Trip?

First and foremost, you have to book your vacation! You might not be sure how far in advance to book your trip, and I personally go by the “as early as possible” rule – I try to book my trip online about a year beforehand – gives me plenty of time to get ready (and to save up some souvenir money, too!). Disney has generally released package dates for the following year around late June – so for example – package rates (to include room/tickets/dining) for 2017 were released in late June of 2016 – and that has been the trend for the past several years. I do recommend you stay at a WDW owned Resort – it makes things a lot easier logistics wise (for more on that and why staying at a WDW Resort Hotel is the best, check this out). I also recommend you create your WDW online account at the time of booking, so that you can have that all set early on (if you book online, you will have already done this – but if you go through a travel agent or do it via phone you will want to do this as an additional step!)

Advanced Dining Reservation Day

When you talk to people about Disney vacation planning, you might hear terms like “ADR” and “180 days” thrown around – and that is referring to the fact that Disney allows you to book your sit down meals 180 days in advance with the Advance Dining Reservation system. While you may be thinking “How can I book meals 6 months in advance?” – and I agree it can sound a bit weird to think about, trust me when I say – its necessary! Spots for popular restaurants and character meals fill up FAST – so I highly recommend you take advantage of the ability to book in advance. Read more about ADR’s here.

Transportation

Around 6 months out from the trip is also when I like to plan out my transportation – it’s a good time to decide how you want to get there – will you drive, or fly? Taking into consideration the size of your party and how much gear you might need to bring are good ways to help you nail down the answer to that question – and once you have, you can start looking at driving routes, or checking out plane ticket prices. I usually will look once a week or so and see what the prices are like for plane tickets (as we live in upstate NY – so driving isn’t usually our first choice!), and I normally end up booking them about 3-4 months in advance. Once I have that confirmation information from the airline, I can also get my Magical Express reservations setup too (Magical Express is Disney’s Free airport shuttle service for guests staying at one of their WDW owned resorts – just another perk of staying on WDW property!)

Fastpass+ Reservations

Disney has been using Fastpasses for years – and recently it has gone the way of everything else these days – with online access! You can book up to 3 rides per day with the fastpass+ system before your trip (60 days before if you’re staying on WDW property, 30 days if you have purchased theme park tickets only through Disney), and that information will all be stored on your Magic Band as well as within the Disney World smartphone app (so you can pull it up if you forget the times you chose!). For those not familiar – Fastpass is a way to basically “cut the line” on popular attractions, by booking a “spot” on the ride within a certain hour-long window. As long as you arrive at the ride within that hour, you are able to enter through the Fastpass line – which is MUCH shorter than the standby line, and it allows you to enjoy your favorite rides with little to no wait. To know what rides you will want to do on which days, you might want to think about making an Itinerary around this time as well – read more about how to do that here

Magic Band Customization/Shipping

A Magic Band is a bracelet you wear while in WDW that contains your room key, park tickets, fastpass and ADR information, and they can also be set up to charge purchases to a credit card, too. Additionally, you can customize your magic bands so each person’s has their name and a different color, and best of all – they will be sent right to your house about a month before your trip so you have them ready to go before you even arrive. I recommend you customize them all at the same time you do your Fastpass+ reservations – so that it will all be good to go well in advance

When to pack

I am big on lists – so I like to make a list for packing about a month in advance of my Disney trip – that way I have time to get things I might need like sunscreen, a new swimsuit, batteries for the camera, etc – it’s a LOT easier than running around last minute, trust me on that! Speaking of packing – here’s some more items you will want to make sure you bring along with you.

Hopefully this guide will help you nail down some of the major planning pieces of your WDW trip. I like to do as much planning and preparation in advance as I can – I find that it really allows me to spend more time having FUN once I arrive at Disney World – and isn’t that really the point? So this timeline = less stress, more fun!

2 arrested in Walt Disney World counterfeit ticket scheme

ticket 1

ticket-1

A 19-year-old man, Branden Bullerin, has been arrested and charged with third degree grand theft, forgery and scheme to fraud.  Bullerin was selling counterfeit discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and Universal theme parks on Craigslist. Bullerin had been arrested 17 times before with two of those arrests for suspicion of selling fraudulent theme park tickets.

Bullerin would have the victims meet him at the Orlando International Airport in the food court where he would show a copy of his driver’s license and social security card as proof of identity. He listed his name on the tickets as a cast member of Walt Disney World and passed the tickets off as his complimentary employee passes.

When the victims tried to enter the theme park they were told they were counterfeit.

Detectives noted grammatical errors on the tickets and that there was an expiration date of January 2018.  They were also told by Walt Disney World that Bullerin had never been employed there.

In order to catch Bullerin an undercover detective went on craigslist looking for tickets to Walt Disney World. Bullerin responded and requested to meet at Orlando International Airport once again in the food court. They met on January 26th and once the officer paid $400.00 for the tickets the arrest was made.  The tickets were later confirmed to be counterfeit.

Once arrested Bullerin named a partner Jimmy Messer.  Bullerin called Messer and asked him to deliver tickets to the airport and cops picked him up on the way.  They found 53 counterfeit tickets for Disney World and Universal with Messer.

Messer was charged with a misdemeanor of possessing fraudulent theme park admission tickets.

Receive A Special Rate When Bringing Groups Of 20 Or More For DisneyNature’s “Born In China”

Group tickets are now available for Disneynature’s new big-screen adventure “Born in China.” Groups of 20 or more receive a special rate by calling 1-800-DISNEY6 (347-6396) to purchase tickets in advance.

Narrated by John Krasinski, “Born in China” takes moviegoers on an epic journey into the wilds of China to witness intimate stories of three animal families: a doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence, a two-year-old golden monkey who feels displaced by his new baby sister joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts, and a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet.

Moviegoers who see Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure film during its opening week (April 21-27, 2017) will benefit the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Based on opening-week attendance, Disneynature, via the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, will make a contribution to the WWF to help protect wild pandas and snow leopards in China.

Opening in U.S. theaters on April 21, 2017, “Born in China” is directed by accomplished Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan, and produced by Disney’s Roy Conli and renowned nature filmmakers Brian Leith and Phil Chapman.

Josh Groban To Release “Evermore” An Original Song From “Beauty And The Beast”

beautyandthebeast58726d5b9fac8

Multi-platinum international recording artist and songwriter Josh Groban has recorded an all-new original song, “Evermore,” for Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast.” The song will appear in the film’s end credits as well as the soundtrack.

“Evermore,” is a beautiful ballad performed in the film by the Beast (Dan Stevens) after he releases Belle (Emma Watson) to be with her father. It is written by eight-time Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin”) and veteran lyricist and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice (“The Lion King,” “Evita”). Menken also provides the film score, as well as new recordings of the classic songs from the animated film written by himself and Ashman. The original motion picture soundtrack will be released by Walt Disney Records on March 10, 2017. The pre-order is available now.

Says Groban, “I am honored to sing this beautiful new song by two of my absolute favorites, Alan Menken and Tim Rice. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been with me since my childhood and to have a musical connection to this new film makes me so happy.”

Mitchell Leib, president of music for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production, helped to bring Groban into the musical mix for the film. “Alan Menken, director Bill Condon and I were talking about which contemporary recording artist could even sing such a demanding song, let alone succeed with it. Josh stood alone,” says Leib. “His voice is a natural fit for this showstopper of a composition.”

Groban has released seven studio albums, his 2001 self-titled 5x-platinum debut, 2003’s 6x-platinum “Closer,” 2006’s double-platinum “Awake,” 2007’s 6x platinum GRAMMY-nominated “Noel,” 2010’s gold-certified “Illuminations” and 2013’s gold-certified “All That Echoes,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, giving Groban his first No. 1 debut and third chart-topper. Groban earned GRAMMY Award® nominations for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for his 2015 album “Stages,” a collection of some of the greatest songs from musical theater and 2016’s “Stages Live,” which featured performances recorded at the historic Los Angeles Theater for his all-new PBS special “Josh Groban: Stages Live.”

Over the summer, he embarked on an extensive North American tour to support “Stages,” entitled “Josh Groban: On Stage.” Also in 2016, Groban made his Broadway debut starring in the new musical “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” which opened to glowing reviews. The production has just announced a six-month extension to its run, carrying the show into summer. An active arts education philanthropist and advocate, Groban is a member of Americans for the Arts Artists Committee and Groban’s Find Your Light Foundation helps enrich the lives of young people through arts, education, and cultural awareness.

Starting next week, the restaurant will be wowing diners for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.  Executive Chef Mark Boor is at the helm as the restaurant promises to serve up a delectable showcase of fresh seafood, fresh fish as well as some of the dishes that patrons of Fulton’s Crab House have come to know and love.  In preparation for the opening next week, Paddlefish has released details of the full menu which is bound to capture the attention and tantalize the tastebuds of Disney-bound seafood lovers.  For those planning on paying Paddlefish a visit in the weeks ahead here’s a rundown of what you can expect to find on offer.

Cirque Pro Bowl

Cirque Pro Bowl

With the Pro Bowl in town this weekend, NFL team members have arrived at Walt Disney World and are practicing for the Big Game which will take place this Sunday, January 29th at 8:00 pm at the Orlando Citrus Bowl.

Despite their busy schedules, it was nice to see players and broadcasters take time out from their preparations for Game Day to enjoy a performance of Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney Springs.

Mike Golic of ESPN’s Mike and Mike was joined by Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl linebacker Lorenzo Alexander (pictured) as well as Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl punter Johnny Hekker who had a chance to take in the show and meet some of the fantastic cast members who, from cyclists to acrobats, are elite athletes in their own right.

Performances of Cirque du Soleil take place at Disney Springs on Tuesdays through Saturdays at 6:00pm and 9:00 pm.  They are currently running a Florida Resident Discount offer with prices as low as $59 per night for those with a valid Florida state I.D.

NFL fans won’t want to miss their opportunity to see the all-star players that have assembled for this year’s Pro Bowl which will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 8pm on Sunday.

Planet Hollywood Observatory

Planet Hollywood Observatory

After unexpected delays, the re-imagined Planet Hollywood Observatory at Disney Springs finally opened on January 27. The flagship location features a new look and feel with a four-story stargazing observatory, an outdoor terrace and a new burger/sandwich menu inspired by celebrity chef Guy Fieri.

The 5,000 square-foot Stargazer Lounge will be opening soon and offer a beverage menu that focuses on Florida craft beers, including 20 on tap, along with 10 signature cocktails. Don’t forget about the hand-dipped milkshakes and generous sized desserts that are a hallmark of the restaurant.

Planet Hollywood Observatory

Each floor of Planet Hollywood Observatory provides a different ambience in order to create an immersive theatrical dining experience. There is a 4500 square-foot video wall that projects images using trompe l’oeil 3D technology as well as an impressive collection of film-making memorabilia throughout.

Chef Guy Fieri stopped by just before opening the doors on Friday:

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from 11:00am to 12:00am daily. Currently, reservations can be made by calling the restaurant directly at 407-827-7827 or online by visiting their website.

Whether you come for over-the-top burgers and sandwiches inspired by Guy Fieri or prefer the classic menu, the newly re-designed Planet Hollywood Observatory and its new spaces are sure to impress!

 Mickey Essential Oil Locket Diffuser

An essential oil necklace diffuser is a great way to carry soothing fragrances where ever you go. The Mickey Essential Oil Locket DiffuserAromatherapy on the Go with Mickey Essential Oil Locket Diffuser takes that wonderful idea and also mixes it with some Disney style.

This signature Mickey pendant is stainless steel and has reusable colored pads for essential oil. It gives you the freedom to take the benefits of essential oils with you anywhere you go. It includes a high quality stainless steel 20″ lobster claw chain to make it portable, so you can enjoy the scent of your favorite essential oil without the oil touching your skin. These are also great for hanging over the rear view mirror. I also hang an aromatherapy necklace off a lamp by my bed! The locket is simple to open, and you just add oil to pad, close the chamber and enjoy the scent as it is released all day long.
