Beware of Disney Scams on Facebook

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World

Recently, a bunch of fake Disney Facebook pages have popped up promising everything from a free cruise to an all-inclusive week-long Walt Disney World Vacation. Unfortunately, the old saying, “If something sounds too good to be true it probably is” applies to most of these Facebook pages.

The fake Disney page will ask you for a “like and a share” in exchange for being entered into a contest to “win” a Disney vacation. Seems like a great prize to win, right? However, no one ever wins these prizes. They are a scam and a way to get your information. In addition, the family-friendly, Disney-themed page that you “like” might turn into a not-so-friendly, very un-Disney themed page in the future.

Because Disney does sometime run special giveaways, you might be wondering, “How do I know what is a scam and what isn’t.” All of these fake pages look almost identical to an official Disney page. However, there are also slight differences. Some things to look for are variations on spellings of names and the page not being verified by Facebook.

Here is an example of a fake Disney Cruise Line Facebook page and the official, Facebook verified Disney Cruise Line page. Can you spot the fake?

Disney Cruise Line Disney Cruise Line

If you guessed that the first photo is the fake Disney Cruise Line Facebook page, you are correct! The first one is not Disney Cruise Line but Disney Cruise LineS. Also, you will see the blue check mark on the left side of the second picture next to Disney Cruise Line indicating it has been verified Facebook of an official page.

Let’s look at another example of a fake Disney Facebook page. This is a fake page for Walt Disney World.

Walt Disney World

You can tell that this is not an official Disney page because of the hyphen between Disney and World. The official Walt Disney World Facebook page looks like this:

Walt Disney World

Don’t get me wrong, most of these “fake” pages look just like the real thing. Many of then probably have thousands of “likes” too. But don’t be fooled, these are just scams to get your information and make you follow a very un-family friendly topic in the future. I am sure Disney would love to give away 20 free cruises and 30 free Walt Disney World Vacations, however, they are a business trying to make a profit too!

With that being said, Disney does offer a free trip from time to time. Right now there is a current promotion running to win a FREE trip to Disney including a night in Cinderella’s Castle Suite. To enter that contest, click here. Chip & Co. will always be one of the first to let you know about any official Disney trip contests so you can have a chance of winning the prize and not being scammed! Any of the giveaways that we promote or offer on our page are always legit.

Disney World Cast Member Forced Out of Job Due to Air Freshener Sensitivity

Nancy Copley

Nancy Copley, a Walt Disney World cast member for 19 years, is claiming that Disney forced her out of her job due to her request that an air freshener be removed from the bathroom that she used. Copley a long time sufferer of asthma stated that the chemicals used in the freshener was triggering her condition.

Copley had recently been featured in a WFTV9 story on chemical sensitivity in the workplace. It was about this time that she made the request to Disney to remove the air freshener.

The month after the story aired she was told by Disney to leave her job and receive a settlement with the park or get nothing. Copley was only one year away from retirement.

Copley said because her restriction to the fragrance was considered “personal,” the park did not have to comply and asked her to leave.

“They said it would cost them too much money to take an air freshener out of a bathroom,” Copley said. “It was either do the settlement or lose my job and not get anything.”

While the Americans Disabilities Act covers chemical sensitivity, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) currently has no national indoor air quality standard.

Disney did not respond when WFTV9 asked for a comment.

The Water is Returning to the Disneyland Rivers of America

Rivers of America

With the construction underway for Star Wars land at Dinseyland Park, the northern portion of the Rivers of America in Frontierland had been dry since early 2016. On Friday that all changed as Disneyland workers opened the valves and started filling that portion of the waterway back up.

The water had been previously been drained so that the river’s path could be changed to accommodate the new land being built north of Critter Country and Frontierland. The Disneyland Railroad has also been closed due to this construction. While the hope was to have things back up and running this summer, Disneyland officials have not confirmed when either of these attractions would be re-opened.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2” Rockets To The Top Of The Box Office

“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2” Rockets To The Top Of The Box Office

As many people expected, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” exploded into domestic theaters this weekend to kick off the summer box office with $145 million at 4,347 locations. The latest from Disney / Marvel was expected to make $140 million, but possibly more by some analysts considering the studio’s track record and enthusiasm that the first go-around generated.

“Guardians 2” came into its opening domestic weekend with well over $100 million in the bank from international ticket sales. It made more than $106 million in its first weekend at 58% of overseas territories. This weekend the movie earned an estimated $124 million abroad after opening in several more major foreign markets including Korea, Russia and China. That raises the global weekend total to about $269 million and the movie’s total global take so far to $428 million.

“We feel great. It is a spectacular number, period,” said Disney’s distribution chief Dave Hollis. “This is such a fresh and exciting film … it’s the kind of event that gets people excited about going to theaters.”

Again, James Gunn directed and scripted the movie starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper as the guardians. The film also brings back Karen Gillan and Michael Rooker, and features prominent new characters played by Kurt Russell and Pom Klementieff. Gunn is already attached to write and direct the third “Guardians” movie.

The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe entered theaters with high expectations. When the original was released in 2014, it was a relatively unknown property that managed to smash records for the month of August when it opened to more than $94 million domestically (still modest by Disney/Marvel standards). But word-of-mouth kept building, and by the end of its theatrical run, it had raked in $333 million domestically and $440 million overseas.

“Guardians 2” enjoyed the widest Imax opening ever — 1,088 screen in 69 markets. The film made $25 million on Imax screens including $13 million in North America. $174 million of the movie’s global earnings this weekend came from 3D ticket sales, according to RealD, which was responsible for about $72 million of the take.

Get used to seeing “Guardians 2” on top. Knowing how well Disney has been doing lately, we’re sure to be seeing more articles like this.

kona

Recently Disney has made a BIG change to the breakfast menu at the Kona Cafe inside Disney’s Polynesian Village. According to the Dis the menu went into effect over the weekend and guests are not happy!

Big Kahuna

Disney has pulled 2 popular breakfast choices off the menu, The Big Kahuna (pictured above) and the Samoan.

Disney changes breakfast menu at Kona Cafe

Not to worry fans the Tonga Toast is safe… for now. 😉

But seriously many fans including myself love the Big Kahuna. It comes with Eggs, French Toast, Pankcakes with Macadamia Nut Butter, Pineapple Sauce, and Ham, Bacon, Sausage, and potatoes. It was a great sampler that 2 people could easily share. I have never had the Samoan which is basically eggs benedict with pulled pork on top.

So are you sad to see these 2 items go?

Let us know what you think in the comment box below.

“Voices of Liberty” and Sandi Patty Perform Powerful Beauty and the Beast Ballad

Voctave Sandi Patty

The a cappella group Voctave, or “Voices of Liberty” as some of the singers are known in EPCOT,  has released a new video. The group has teamed up with five time Grammy award winner Sandi Patty to perform a powerful rendition of the title sing from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast“.

YouTube player

The Voices of Liberty have been performing at Disney since opening day of EPCOT in 1982. In 2015 the eight member a capella group came together with other vocal artists to form Voctave. This new group has been recording and performing all over the country, singing with artists like Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix and Avalon member Jody McBrayer.

Guests can listen to the Voices of Liberty live at the American Adventure Pavilion in EPCOT beneath the acoustically perfect pavilion rotunda throughout the day. Disney encourages visitors to sit or stand as close to the rotunda circle as possible in order to get the full benefit of the astounding acoustics.

This beautifully performed version of “Tale as Old as Time” is sure to amaze everyone who hears it.
