Walt Disney World Housekeeping Services Limited until Further Notice

housekeeping

Walt Disney World Resort was hit by Hurricane Irma over Sunday night into early Monday morning, causing it’s theme parks to close and resorts to run under modified operations. While thankfully there were no reported injuries, or major structural damage, there is still a need for major cleanup around the resort due to downed trees and debris. As a result, Disney has notified resort guests that housekeeping services will remain limited while Cast Members work to resume normal operations.

Walt Disney World Resort re-opened its four major theme parks today, as well as Disney Springs. Disney’s two water parks, Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, will remain closed until further notice. For a full list of attractions that remain closed due to storm cleanup, click HERE.

Multiple Attractions Closed For Extended Period Due To Hurricane Irma Damage

Jungle Cruise

Hurricane Irma might be gone from Disney World but her after effects are still with us. Disney has been hard at work restoring its grounds and has re-opened all four parks this morning for guests.

BlogMickey is reporting that the Jungle Cruise will still need more work before taking passengers aboard. Cast Members at the Magic Kingdom are stating that the attraction will remain closed for “at least a week”. It appears that the damage incurred from the hurricane included downed trees which prevents boats from passing even the first river bend.  Sources online are also reporting that the Walt Disney World Railroad is not running this morning.

Animal Kingdom also has a handful of attractions that will be operating on reduced hours.  Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Wild Africa Trek will have delayed openings and aren’t expected to be running until later in the day. Kali River Rapids, Planet Watch and the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail will remain closed throughout the day.

Stay tuned for more details as we get them!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Confirmed for Role in The Last Jedi

Star Wars

Star Wars News Net is reporting that Director Rian Johnson confirmed during a recent fan event that his friend, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, will have a part in the upcoming The Last Jedi. However, it sounds like we might not be actually seeing Gordon-Levitt in the movie, as he will just have a “voice acting role.” It also sounds like he will be the voice of some type of alien.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Gordon-Levitt will be in the movie. He has appeared in three of Johnson’s previous movies including Looper, Brick, and The Brothers Bloom.

Johnson also revealed at the fan event that The Last Jedi is almost complete. He even revealed that several actors in the movie were shocked by the “development of some characters” in the movie.

The Last Jedi arrives in theaters December 15 of this year.

Xavier “X” Atencio, A Disney Legend and Former Imagineer, Has Passed Away

Xavier "X" Atencio

Disney Legend Xavier “X” Atencio, a former Imagineer and Disney animator, passed away on September 10 at the age of 98. X was responsible for helping bring to life a number of beloved Disney parks attractions including Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, as well as such animated classics as Pinocchioand Fantasia.

Born on September 4, 1919, in Walsenburg, Colorado, X—whose friends shortened his name from Francis Xavier to simply “X”—moved to Los Angeles in 1937 to attend the Chouinard Art Institute. X thought a job at Disney was out of his reach, but the then-18-year-old artist’s instructors prodded him to submit his portfolio. In 1938, when he got the good news from Disney, X ran from the original Hyperion Avenue studio to his aunt’s house shouting, “I got a job at Disney! I got a job at Disney!”

X first saw his work on screen at the 1940 premiere of Pinocchioand as he watched, he was incredibly moved by seeing the audience’s reaction. That year, he was promoted to assistant animator for Fantasia but left temporarily to join the Army Air Corps in the war effort.

Upon his return in 1945, he picked up where he left off, returning to the studio and working for the next eight years on animated short subjects. His first on-screen credit was for TootWhistlePlunk and Boom in 1953, an Oscar®-winning film that took audiences through the history of music. Other films X contributed to during this time included Noahs Ark (1959) and A Symposium on Popular Songs (1962), both Academy Award® nominees, as well as Jack and Old Mac (1956). He worked on the “I’m No Fool” series for the original MickeyMouse Club, and in the 1960s, X provided memorable stop-motion sequences for Disney feature films TheParent Trap (1961), Babes in Toyland (1961), and Mary Poppins (1964).

At the request of Walt Disney, X transferred to WED Enterprises (later Walt Disney Imagineering) in 1965 to work on the Primeval World diorama for Disneyland. At first, X was unsure of the move to WED: “I went over there reluctantly because I didn’t know what I was getting into, and nobody there knew what I was supposed to do either,” he recalled. “About a month later I got a phone call from Walt. He told me ‘I want you to do the script for the Pirates of the Caribbean.’” From that point on, X cemented his legacy at WED, playing a key role in the development of music and dialogue for the attraction, including co-writing the iconic song, “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).” For the Haunted Mansion, he wrote the attraction’s dialogue and co-wrote the song “Grim Grinning Ghosts.” For Walt Disney World, he contributed to If You Had Wings and Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom, as well as Spaceship EarthWorld of Motion, and the Mexico pavilion at Epcot. Throughout his career, X always said that his reward, as it was in the days of Pinocchio, “is still the audience’s reactions.”

“X was an enormous talent who helped define so many of our best experiences around the world,” said Bob Weis, president of Walt Disney Imagineering. “Some may not know that when he wrote the lyrics for ‘Yo Ho’ he had never actually written a song before. He simply proposed the idea of a tune for Pirates of theCaribbean, and Walt told him to go and do it. That was how X worked—with an enthusiastic, collaborative attitude, along with a great sense of humor. His brilliant work continues to inspire Imagineers and bring joy to millions of guests every year.”

X retired from Disney in 1984, but continued working as a consultant to Walt Disney Imagineering for many years, and was inducted as a Disney Legend in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Maureen; his children Tori McCullough, Judianne, and Joe; his stepchildren Brian Sheedy, Kevin Sheedy, and Eileen Haubeil; sons-in-law Mike McCullough and Chris Haubeil; daughters-in-law Kathy Atencio, Trish Sheedy, and Beth Sheedy; and eight grandchildren.

Is Coco Being Added To The Mexico Pavilion And Replacing the Gran Fiesta Tour?

Gran Fiesta Tour

Hola Amigos! It is I, Anonymouse, back with more Disney World Gossip.

You will remember that back in June I brought you the news that Disney is considering retheming the Gran Fiesta Tour attraction at the Mexico Pavilion to be a Coco based ride. Well, more details have come to light that I wanted to share.

The display cases in the La Vida Antigua exhibit (which translated means “Ancient Life”) are now standing empty in the Mexico Pavilion. If what we are hearing is true then these cases will soon be filled with Coco movie related items.

The Coco based attraction has been assumed that it is contingent on the success of the movie but these display case changes could mean it’s coming regardless.

As always nothing is official till Disney says it is.

That is all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my Facebook page

Bob Iger Reveals Disney’s Profits For 2017 Will Be Similar to Last Year

Bob Iger

In a caution to shareholders, The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger, announced that profits for this year would be similar to last years.  According to a piece that ran on CNBC, Iger said  “You have to look at the year being roughly in line…with what we delivered in fiscal 16.”

As outlined by CNBC, Disney reported 2016 earnings per share at $5.72.  Current estimates put this year’s earnings at $5.88 per share. CEO Bob Iger attributed the financial struggles at the Walt Disney Company to a variety of different factors including not having a Star Wars film for releases this year as well as the increase in costs of the NBA rights for ESPN as well as Disney’s increased stake at BAMTech.

Please keep following along with Chip and Co for the latest information regarding The Walt Disney Company’s financial outlook for 2017.
