Epic Eats: The Viral Mac & Cheese Cones at Isle of Berk in Epic Universe

If you’ve been keeping an eye on all the Epic Universe buzz, chances are you’ve already drooled over the viral mac and cheese cones taking over the Isle of Berk — and believe us, they taste even better than they look! 🧀🔥 Served up at Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel, a cozy snack stand tucked on the west side of Berk, these cheesy creations are the perfect fuel for any hungry viking fresh off a day of dragon training. Bold, hearty, and packed with flavor, they’re a must-grab bite before your next flight!

First up was the Goldfish Mac & Cheese Cone: a creamy, classic mac and cheese stuffed into a crunchy cone and topped with none other than Goldfish crackers. This one is pure comfort food — cheesy, rich, and perfect for those who prefer a more straightforward, less adventurous flavor. It’s simple, satisfying, and ideal for kids (or kids at heart!).

But for us, the real star of the show was the Dragon Fire Chicken Spire Mac & Cheese Cone. This version kicks things up a notch with creamy mac and cheese layered with Nashville-style pulled chicken, hot honey, Calabrian peppers, chimichurri, and crispy onions — all tucked inside that same crunchy cone. The heat from the chicken and peppers is beautifully balanced by the smooth, cheesy base, while the chimichurri adds a pop of herby freshness. Every bite delivers a perfect mix of creamy, spicy, savory, and crispy.

And don’t overlook the cone itself — it’s not just a vessel! It has a garlic-bread-like crunch that makes for the perfect finish to an already incredible snack.

Whether you’re sticking to the classic Goldfish version or daring to try the fiery Dragon Fire Chicken Spire, these mac and cheese cones are a must-try when exploring Isle of Berk. Quick, craveable, and full of fun — they’re the ultimate park snack for your next Epic adventure!

Make sure to head over to Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel early in the day — these cones are already gaining a viral following, and for good reason!

Spoiler-Free Review: Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment at Epic Universe

When it comes to can’t-miss attractions at Universal’s Epic Universe, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment stands head and shoulders above the rest — and quite literally, so does Frankenstein’s Monster.

Set deep within the heart of Dark Universe, the adventure begins long before you board your ride vehicle. Guests are invited into the crumbling, gothic halls of Frankenstein Manor, where the sinister secrets of the Frankenstein family are just waiting to be unearthed. The story picks up with Victoria Frankenstein, the brilliant but dangerously ambitious descendant of Victor Frankenstein.

Related: Try the Screaming Berry Soda Unique to Dark Universe

In an effort to continue (and perhaps perfect) her ancestor’s experiments, Victoria has attempted to tame the universe’s most infamous creatures… but things, of course, don’t go as planned.

Witness Frankenstein's Monster Come to Life on Monsters Unchained in Epic Universe

As you make your way through the richly detailed queue, you’ll uncover eerie artifacts, faded family portraits, and unsettling scientific equipment, all hinting at the chaos brewing beneath the surface. It all builds to an astonishing preshow moment, where you’ll come face-to-face with a remarkably lifelike animatronic Victoria Frankenstein — and an even more breathtaking encounter with Frankenstein’s Monster himself. These animatronics are among the most impressive we have ever seen in a theme park, full stop.

Once on the ride, you’ll board a robotic arm vehicle similar to the one used for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. While the motion feels thrilling and dynamic, it’s smoother and more cinematic this time around. That said, your “driver” — none other than the mischievous Igor — doesn’t shy away from flipping you forward, tossing you back, and making sure you get very up close and personal with the horrors unleashed.

Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter a rogues’ gallery of classic Universal Monsters — many brought to terrifying life through a combination of massive animatronics, practical sets, and carefully placed screen effects. Expect to cross paths with legends like Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and more — all reimagined in a darker, more intense style perfectly fitting the brooding atmosphere of Dark Universe.

Each scene is packed with thrilling surprises, jaw-dropping effects, and moments that make you feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of gothic horror lore itself.

In our opinion, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment isn’t just the best attraction in Dark Universe — it’s the shining star of Epic Universe as a whole. From its heart-pounding story to its next-level technology and detailed artistry, it’s the kind of ride you’ll be thinking about long after you step off. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, this is an experience you simply can’t miss.

Sip, Savor, and Scream: Trying the Screaming Berry and Darkmoor Black Wings at Epic Universe

During our latest visit to Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe, we ventured into the shadows of Dark Universe and discovered a deliciously eerie treat: the Screaming Berry soda! This exclusive flavor, available only in Dark Universe, is one of Epic Universe’s special Coca-Cola Freestyle offerings — and it’s well worth seeking out.

We found the Screaming Berry tucked inside the Freestyle machines at Das Stakehaus, but don’t worry — it’s also available at other Freestyle stations around Dark Universe. The flavor? Sweet, fruity, and surprisingly refreshing — the perfect drink to wash down a hauntingly good meal.

Speaking of meals, while at Das Stakehaus, we paired our Screaming Berry soda with the Darkmoor Black Wings — a must-try for spice lovers. These wings are dusted with spicy chili seasoning, topped with smoky cheddar, charred scallions, and drizzled with a flavorful soy chili garlic sauce. Though the portion wasn’t huge, each wing packed a punch with bold, balanced flavors and was cooked perfectly.

Though the portion wasn’t huge, each wing packed a punch with bold, balanced flavors and was cooked perfectly. Adding a little extra magic to the meal, the wings come with a pimento cornbread skull on the side — a fun and tasty touch — along with a cool, crisp coleslaw that helped temper the heat from the wings.

This is actually the second park-exclusive Coca-Cola Freestyle flavor we’ve been lucky enough to try at Epic Universe. On our previous visit, we fell in love with the Celestial Spritz in Celestial Park — a bright, orange-flavored soda that’s both balanced and refreshing.

Purple Martins have Returned to Walt Disney World

Purple Martins have Returned to Walt Disney World

Purple Martins Back at Walt Disney World After Epic Journey!

Across the vibrant landscape of Walt Disney World, a familiar magic has returned, not in the form of pixie dust, but in the shimmering plumage of Purple Martins. These remarkable little birds, native to the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, have once again completed their incredible 3,000-mile journey north, choosing the welcoming environment of Disney as their annual nesting destination – a tradition that began in 1998.

Within these cozy compartments, the birds lay their eggs, which hatch after approximately 15 days. Throughout the nesting season, observant guests can witness the dedicated parents diligently entering and exiting these avian abodes, sharing the responsibilities of incubating eggs, brooding their young, feeding the ever-hungry hatchlings, and even meticulously cleaning their shared living space.

The commitment to these tiny visitors is significant. Hundreds of hours are invested in preparing these nesting compartments, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for the birds to raise their families. One might even say these Walt Disney World nesting houses are the most luxurious on the block, a likely reason why many Purple Martins return year after year.

For the dedicated conservation team at Walt Disney World, the arrival of January signals the eagerly anticipated start of the Purple Martin migration. Months of preparation culminate in the hope of welcoming back their feathered friends.

The Perfect Bird House: A Disney Touch

Have you ever spotted whimsical, white structures resembling cartoon trees while exploring EPCOT or relaxing at a Disney resort hotel? These aren’t mere decorations; they are carefully designed “colony sites,” essentially collections of birdhouses tailored specifically for Purple Martins.

Cast Members: The Unsung Heroes of Conservation

For Disney conservationists, the nesting season offers a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of this fascinating species, directly contributing to broader protection and conservation efforts in the wild. With the invaluable assistance of cast members across Walt Disney World, each bird family is closely monitored. Many individuals are carefully fitted with unique leg bands, providing crucial information and data. This allows cast members to track the return of banded birds, identify their band numbers, and observe their nesting behaviors.

Purple Martins have Returned to Walt Disney World

This dedication culminates in a special annual event known as the Purple Martin Palooza. During this gathering, conservationists come together to band the next generation of fledglings before their release back into the wild, equipping them for their eventual journey back to the Brazilian Amazon.

A Vital Stopover in a Challenging World

Migratory bird species worldwide face increasing threats due to the loss of vital stopover habitats – places where they can find essential food and clean water during their long journeys. This underscores the critical importance of Walt Disney World serving as a long-term, secure nesting colony for Purple Martins.

Purple Martins have Returned to Walt Disney World

The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to wildlife conservation is deeply ingrained in its values. Since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF) has actively supported migratory bird conservation through habitat protection, long-term research investments, and educational initiatives for communities living near migratory bird habitats. Notably, the DCF supports non-profit organizations dedicated to studying and protecting Purple Martins all along their migratory route, from Brazil to Florida. Over the past 30 years, the fund has proudly supported more than 100 non-profit organizations working to safeguard over 250 bird species across more than 80 countries, including our cherished Purple Martins.

This inspiring project perfectly embodies Disney Planet Possible – a commitment to putting possibility into practice by actively conserving natural resources, caring for wildlife and their habitats, reducing waste, and sharing stories that inspire meaningful action. So, the next time you’re at Walt Disney World and hear the cheerful chirping and catch a glimpse of that purple iridescence against the Florida sky, remember the incredible journey these tiny travelers have undertaken and the dedicated efforts to ensure their safe return year after year.

Disneyland and Alaska Airlines Reveal Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Plane

After the big reveal and joyful celebration at a gate ceremony in Portland, Ore., passengers boarded the inaugural flight to Orange County, Calif., to visit The Happiest Place on Earth — the Disneyland Resort. The specially painted plane will fly on routes across Alaska Airlines’ network for the next several years.

The plane’s exterior artwork celebrates the latest chapter in the princess and entrepreneur’s story featured in Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the exhilarating water-based attraction and music filled journey in the newly renamed Bayou Country at Disneyland park.

Adorned with images of Princess Tiana in her adventure wear, Louis the Alligator splashing among the water lilies on the bayou, and a brilliant trail of friendly fireflies flowing from the plane’s nose to tail, the Boeing 737-800, tail number N596AS, is Alaska Airlines’ ninth livery in collaboration with Disneyland Resort.

To create this delightful design – which even includes Mama Odie and Prince Naveen on the winglets – it took artists more than 2000 hours to hand paint the vibrant aircraft exterior.

Alaska Airlines’ other Disneyland Resort-themed planes include:

  •  “Mickey’s Toontown Express,” picturing Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, along with their pals Goofy, Pluto, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland park.
  • The space-black “Star Wars Transport to the Disneyland Resort” livery that celebrates Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland park.
  • “Friendship and Beyond at Disneyland Resort,” which portrays larger-than-life versions of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie in Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure park.

“Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flyer” arrives just in time to bring visitors to Southern California for the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, which begins May 16, 2025, and runs through summer 2026, honoring seven decades of happiness and many moments of joy in the making.
