Marvel Television and Freeform signs cast for ‘Marvel’s New Warriors’ Comedy

Marvel Television and Freeform signs cast for ‘Marvel's New Warriors’ Comedy

Marvel Television, Freeform and ABC Signature Studios today have completed casting for “Marvel’s New Warriors,” their previously announced new comedic live-action adaptation of the popular Marvel comic featuring young adult heroes. “Marvel’s New Warriors” marks Marvel’s first foray into comedy for a live-action television series slated to debut in 2018 on Freeform, Disney’s young adult television and streaming network.

Not quite super, not yet heroes, Marvel’s New Warriors features six young people learning to cope with their abilities in a world where bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

Meet your New Warriors:

Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us,” “Silicon Valley”) as Doreen Green a.k.a Squirrel Girl

Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl who has the incredible powers of a … squirrel. Her greatest quality is her optimism and her best friend is a pet squirrel, Tippy Toe.

Derek Theler (“Baby Daddy”) as Craig Hollis a.k.a Mister Immortal

Craig can’t die … or so he says. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all – he figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to do anything heroic, what’s the rush?

Marvel Television and Freeform signs cast for ‘Marvel's New Warriors’ Comedy

Jeremy Tardy (“Dear White People,” “Ten Days in the Valley) as Dwayne Taylor a.k.a Night Thrasher

Brilliant and noble, and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur who also deeply believes in justice.

Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally,” “Cassandra French’s Finishing School”) as Robbie Baldwin a.k.a Speedball

Robbie is an impulsive people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence who throws kinetic balls of energy that are completely out of control.

Marvel Television and Freeform signs cast for ‘Marvel's New Warriors’ Comedy

Matthew Moy (“2 Broke Girls, “Steven Universe”) as Zack Smith a.k.a. Microbe

Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability is that he can talk to germs that tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and with whom you’ve hung out. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him.

Kate Comer (“Hello My Name is Doris,” “The Comeback”) as Deborah Fields a.k.a. Debrii

Deborah is proud, funny and quick-witted. A low-level telekinetic, very low like she can move a paper cup.

“I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It’ll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them,” said series executive producer and showrunner Kevin Biegel.

“We’re so lucky to have assembled such a diverse and incredibly talented cast,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “We can’t wait for the fans to see what’s in store when we unleash these iconic characters into the world!”

“At Freeform, we are committed to finding distinct and entertaining characters that our audience can enjoy and relate to,” said Elizabeth Boykewich, senior vice president, Casting and Talent, Freeform. “We are excited to be working with Marvel Television to bring these fiercely average superheroes to life and watch them take on the world.”

The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Kevin Biegel (“Cougar Town,” “Enlisted”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s The Defenders,” “Marvel’s Punisher”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s Inhumans”) as executive producers.

Is This the End for One Man’s Dream at Hollywood Studios?

Is This the End for One Man's Dream at Hollywood Studios?

We are hearing speculation from The Disney Blog that One Man’s Dream at Hollywood Studios will soon be closing it’s doors for good. There are several large expansion projects currently underway at the Park with the addition of Star Wars and Toy Story Lands. The rumored plans for Toy Story Land calls for the removal of the building that houses this nostalgic attraction.

It sounds like Disney archivists are already planning a trip to Disney World to personally collect the items and materials on display in the attraction. These items will be added to the Walt Disney Archives. A part of the exhibit, “Walt’s Office,” has already been packed up and sent to the Walt Disney Family Museum. With this news, hopes are dashed that this iconic attraction will not be relocated on Disney World property.

One Man’s Dream was originally installed as a temporary exhibit in 2001 as part of the 100 Years of Magic Celebration. The attraction celebrates Walt Disney’s life and legacy with artifacts and a video narrated by Jule Andrews. Most recently, the building has been home to Moana and currently Star-Lord and Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy. Trailers for upcoming Disney movies have also been shown in the exhibit including Cars 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean.

We are anticipating to hear the official opening date for Toy Story Land at the D23 Expo this weekend. At that time, we will probably receive more details on the official fate of One Man’s Dream. Chip & Co will be reporting live from the Expo so make sure to keep it right here for all the breaking Disney news.

While it will be sad to see it go we definitely were lucky to able to enjoy it for so many years since it was planned as a temporary exhibit. Will you miss it?

What Walt Disney World Resort May Be Next for a Major Refurbishment?

Several resorts on Disney World property are currently undergoing some pretty major renovations right now. Pop Century is currently undergoing a refurbishment updating their rooms with queen size beds and Murphy beds along with other more modern features. While over at the Caribbean Beach Resort, several buildings have been completely leveled in order to make way for completely brand new rooms and common areas. We also know that a new look will be coming to the Coronado Springs Resort including a mid-rise tower.

So, what resort might be next for an overhaul? We are hearing that as early as October of this year, All Star Movies will be receiving the refurbishment treatment. Word is rooms at All Star Music will be updated with similar changes made to the rooms at Pop Century. As mentioned above, these changes include swapping out double beds for queen beds and hardwood floors.

I would imagine that all of the All Star Resorts will eventually receive the same refurbishment as well. Remember, nothing is confirmed until Disney confirms it but we will be the first to let you know!

Tomorrowland Speedway Being Replaced By TRON Lightcycle Power Run

Tomorrowland Speedway Being Replaced By TRON Lightcycle Power Run

After much speculation it looks like the rumors of the TRON Lightcycle Power Run Rollercoaster might be turning into reality. BlogMickey is reporting that sources are telling them that this amazing ride will be replacing Tomorrowland Speedway at the Magic Kingdom.

The thought is that this headliner attraction will be debuted somewhere around the Magic Kingdom’s 50th Anniversary in 2021. This means that the Tomorrowland Speedway, which opened as an original Magic Kingdom attraction in 1971, will be closing at least a couple of years before that.

TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a semi-enclosed launched steel roller coaster, debuted along with the rest of Shanghai Disneyland on June 16, 2016. The fastest of any Disney coaster, it reaches speeds of over 60 miles per hour. Take a look at the video below for a ride though of the Shanghai rollercoaster.

No permits have been filed and Disney hasn’t officially announced this project YET. But we are expecting it to be announced this weekend at D23 Expo 2017. Chip and Co will be there live covering all the breaking news so stay tuned!

Pop Century’s Eighties Classic Section Refurbishment Photo Tour

Pop Century's Eighties Classic Section Refurbishment Photo Tour

The rooms at Pop Century are undergoing a lengthy refurbishment.  Building #8, which is the 90’s section of the Resort, is now complete.  The Refurbishment has since moved to buildings #7 and #9; the Eighties buildings.  Here is our Pop Century Eighties Classic Refurbishment Photo Tour.

Building #7 was sporting construction workers on every floor.  The windows are covered with plastic and blue tape.  This building is scheduled to open for Guests on August 14, 2017.  Roger Rabbit is in his specified location overseeing the work.

The busiest areas of construction are covered with plywood.  We could see workers back there with a wall completely opened through to the space beyond.  Workers with the yellow and orange vests were busy bringing in equipment and moving between the rooms.  Each window has its own notice posted.

You cannot access the back of the building #7 as there are no walkways around the space.

Views of Building #7 from the top!

Building #9 is a bit closer to completion and will officially be open for Guests on July 24, 2017.

The windows have curtains hanging in them and we can see much of the furniture has been installed.  Room #9170 even had its 55 inch television on!

Pop Century's Eighties Classic Section Refurbishment Photo Tour

The mini fridges were sitting on the floor, in many of the rooms.  just waiting to be installed.

We were able to view the back of Building #9 where the space was a flurry of activity with construction workers moving around.  The televisions and much of the furniture has already been brought into these rooms.

The back of Building #9 houses construction vehicles and Pop Century Resort transportation vehicles.  We were very excited to see the Housekeeping Carts, loaded with towels and other supplies, sitting outside of these rooms on the first floor.  This certainly signifies that these rooms are nearly ready for Guests.

Views of Building #9 from the top floor of Building #8.  You can see there are construction workers on every floor of this building.  The Eighties Classic Refurbishment is certainly making incredible progress.

Part of the 90’s Parking Lot is closed for Construction equipment.  This space also serves as the location for Porta-Potties and a space to sit for the Construction Workers.  The enclosed space is at the end of the parking area and does not hinder traffic in any way.

Building #8, the 90’s section of Pop Century Resort, was the first building to complete refurbishment.  The pool remains open with Buildings #7 and #9 on either side of it undergoing refurbishment.  We were able to go up to the fourth floor to view the area from above.  We also took a ride in a newly refurbished Elevator Car.

I spoke with a very nice Cast Member who shared with me that Building #9 was initially scheduled to open on July 14th, but had been pushed back to an official opening date of July 24th.  He stated that there was a minor delay but that they want it done right, not fast.  He also shared that Building #7 is scheduled to open on August 14th at this point in time.  We mentioned that we are very happy to see there will no longer be carpet in the refurbished rooms.  The Cast Member went on to say, “Well that is so 1980’s!”  We had a laugh (after all it is the 1980’s section of Pop Century we are talking about) and he then stated that they also have mold-resistant surfaces in the bathrooms.  No more grout or tile to attract and grow mold.   This is very exciting to hear as the humidity here in Central Florida easily causes mold to build up on surfaces.  What a great feature for families who have family members with these types of allergies.

See our short video tour of the Eighties Classic Refurbishment here:

Pop Century's Eighties Classic Section Refurbishment Photo Tour

We look forward to staying in one of these newly refurbished rooms in the near future.  The entire project is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2018.  We tried to find out what section of Pop Century Resort will be next for refurbishment, but we were unable to get an answer to that question.  Based on the current direction, we would anticipate the 70’s section, Buildings #6 and #10 would likely be next.  For now, this concludes our Pop Century Eighties Classic Refurbishment Photo Tour.  We will be sure to keep you updated on the progress of this refurbishment.

What do you think of this lengthy refurbishment taking place at Pop Century Resort?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

Backlot Express Features Dark Side Chicken and Waffles

Backlot Express Features Dark Side Chicken and Waffles

Are you a fan of Chicken and Waffles?  There is something about this combination that draws people by the masses and our curiosity was piqued by this fact.  Disney’s Hollywood Studios Backlot Express features Dark Side Chicken and Waffles and we decided to give them a try.

The Dark Side Chicken and Waffles cost $10.99 for an adult portion and $7.99 for a Kids Meal.  We felt the cost for the adult meal was a bit steep, although there is something about the combination of chicken and maple syrup that is simply delicious.  The Kids Meal is a smaller portion but we feel this is a great way to go as you get a Kids side and a Kids size drink as well.  So if you have little ones, or someone with a smaller appetite, this is a great option.

While these are not necessarily our favorite Chicken Nuggets at the Walt Disney World Resort, we enjoyed the flavor combination.  The waffles were your average typical waffles as far as flavor goes.  Star Wars fans will enjoy the imprint of Darth Vader on them.  While the meal itself was good, we felt the price did not warrant the cost for the quality of the food. The Backlot Express’s Dark Side Chicken and Waffles may be a bit lackluster in flavor, but the meal will certainly leave you feeling full.

Could A Disney Version Of Cards Against Humanity Be On Its Way?

Cards against humanity disney

There’s been a lot of Disney rumors making the rounds this month in the lead in to the D23 convention happening in Anaheim  in just a few short days.  From new theme park expansions to Star Wars themed resorts, we thought we’d heard it all.  But there is one rumor that started to hit social media this week that has us feeling amused but skeptical.

If you’ve been at an “adults only” get together over the past few months, chances are someone brought along a Cards Against Humanity Deck.  The premise is simple, there are two decks of cards, black and white.  One player asks a question from a black card and everyone else tries to outdo their friends by laying down the most provocative, raunchiest or rudest white card.

The game can be pretty provocative which is why the internet has blown up when the makers of Cards Against Humanity supposedly revealed on social media this week that a Disney version could be in the works.  The claim was supposedly made on Facebook but was then promptly taken down.

However an Instagram user reported nabbing this screenshot before the official post was removed:

Disney version of Cards Against Humanity!! ?? #cah #cardsagainsthumanity #disney #lol

A post shared by Chez (@chezrep_ww) on

Only time will tell if Cards Against Humanity and Disney will unite to create what will undoubtedly be the talked about game of the year or whether it is just a hoax.  Regardless, you’ll probably never look at some of your favorite Disney films the same way again.

For more information on Cards Against Humanity check out their official site.
