Epcot Expansion

The maps for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival weren’t the only maps released today. New park maps were also released for Epcot. The maps reflect the removal of Universe of Energy, which closed for good yesterday.

Here is a shot of the new maps thanks to The Dis:

It was announced last month at the D23 Expo that Universe of Energy would be re-imagined into a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed attraction. There is no word on when the new attraction will open.

Express Transportation Option at Disney World Comes to an End

Express Transportation Option at Disney World Comes to an End

I was under the impression the Express Transportation option was popular for guests at Disney World. Everyone I heard from loved the convenience of being able to hop from park to park without having to go through security. Well, I guess it wasn’t popular enough. Laughing Place has just announced this add-on transportation option will be coming to an end Wednesday, August 23. The last day for guests to purchase this option is Wednesday, August 16.

Express Transportation launched back in December 2016 as a trial run. The service was then confirmed as a permanent option a few months later. When it was originally introduced, the price was $15 per person per day or $24 per person for multiple days. However, the price increased this past February to $19 per person per day and $29 per person for a multi-day pass.

Disney says that the option was terminated because “more guests preferred other forms of transportation.” Some said the service took away from the magic because guests were going backstage in order to ride the Express Bus.

Disney recently launched the Minnie Vans as an alternative to Uber and Lyft-like services. This new service provides transportation between locations on property for a flat fee of $20. The service is currently in testing phase and only available at a few resorts. We should hear about Minnie Vans being rolled out to many more locations, if not property-wide, any day now.

Are you sad to see the Express Transportation option go away?

Final Photo Tour of The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios

Final Photo Tour of The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios

Yesterday, August 13th, 2017 marked the final day for Disney World guests to journey through the movies on The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios. Since it’s opening on May 1st, 1989, The Great Movie Ride has been the a popular attraction within the park, in fact the ride itself is what inspired the idea of Disney’s third park, Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney MGM Studios.) Thanks to Lisette, a writer with Chip & Co., we have a last look at this iconic attraction.

Modeled after the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, the signage and exterior of the building boasts intricate details.

Below is a video walk through the queue:

A short walk through the queue leads you to a room featuring large Chinese tapestries hanging along the walls. A short film on the history of movies, narrated by Robert Osborne, plays on a loop as you await to board the ride.

Combining special effects, live actors, and audio animatronics, this ride was certainly a spectacular journey through classic movie scenes.

Your journey through the movies ends with a three minute montage of popular moments in film, featuring clips from over 100 movies.

The Great Movie Ride is being replaced with a new attraction, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, which Imagineers have reffered to as “game-changing.” I am looking forward to the very first Mickey-themed attraction, I do believe it is long overdue! I am truly going to miss The Great Movie Ride, but as Walt said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

Blizzard Beach Is Testing Ride Return Wrist Bands

Blizzard Beach Is Testing Ride Return Wrist Bands

It is being reported by Reddit user Lisaaxmariee that at Blizzard Beach they are currently testing a ride return system similar to FastPass+. Guests can pick up these waterproof wristbands that allow them to return during a 30 minute window to by-pass the line. We are hearing that these bands can be picked up at the ski lift. One side is designated for Teamboat springs and Summit plummet bands and the other side is for Down Hill Double Dipper bands.

There is a screen displaying the available times that you can choose from and you are handed a wristband. Once your window is open you are directed to a separate line where a cast member is there to verify your band. Currently this is available for all guests of Blizzard Beach.

These wristbands have not been confirmed by Disney as a permanent change for the Disney water parks. Since MagicBands are already waterproof, I can see this as an easy transition if this test proves beneficial.

What do you think of this change? Would you be excited to see MagicBands come to the water parks?

Update On Spooky Day in the Parks 2017

Update On Spooky Day in the Parks 2017

Are you ready to show off your “villainous” side? Well I’ve got great news. Spooky Day in the Parks 2017 is returning to Walt Disney World. Spooky Empire and Florida Supercon have now joined forces and are bringing you even more thrills and chills as Spooky Day in the parks approaches!

Coming to Central, FL this Fall, September 22 – 24, 2017, Spooky Day in the Parks is a two day meet up event for fans that have a “villainous” side. The weekend taking place throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, will include a mixture of Theme Park gatherings, special VIP events, a “Bizarre” full of merchandise to fulfill your dark side, character breakfast, and much more.

Just added to this wicked weekend is an exclusive screening of the brand new documentary “Foolish Mortals”, which focuses on the fan culture surrounding the very popular attraction the Haunted Mansion. This will be the first ever screening in Florida right in the heart of the Walt Disney World Resort. Two screenings will take place at the Spooky Day Bizarre located at the Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Friday Sept. 22 and Saturday, Sept. 23 and hosted by Producer Ryan Grulich and Director James H. Carter II. (Screening times to be announced)

Spooky Day in the Parks is an opportunity for fans to gather and celebrate their favorite Disney villains and haunted attractions, not to mention a chance to step out in your best ghoulish garb. Attendees are encouraged to express themselves through Disney “bounding” or wicked attire, but do keep in mind this is not a costume or cosplay event. Be it dark or fun, guests will be able to showcase their personal style and materialize for this spirited event.

The following events will materialize at multiple locations around the Walt Disney World Resort:

  • Gala at the Tower – Exclusive after hours private dessert party with unlimited rides, open bar plus Villain photo ops at The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Bizarre Bazaar – Two-Day exhibitor hall full of all the villainous goods and artwork you can get your claws on
  • Frightful Feast – Character Breakfast at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
  • Magic Kingdom Meet Up – Disney Bounding Meet Up at the Magic Kingdom Park

Make your final arrangements. Tickets for all Spooky Day events are now available at www.spookydayintheparks.com and include the exclusive screening. Get your advance tickets for the bizarre and all of our other Spooky Day events today! Use the code SUMMER20 and get 20% off all tickets through August!

Rooms are available at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for a discounted price of $199 per night. Rooms can be reserved by visiting SpookyDayInTheParks.com

Spooky Day in the Parks is not associated with Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Magic Kingdom Park. Spooky Day in the Parks works closely with Disney to insure all park rules and regulations regarding attire are followed.

Anyone interested in this event should know that this is an unofficial Disney fan meet-up. This is an event created by fans, for fans and not organized by Walt Disney World. Unofficial Disney fan events can be some of the best days to visit Disney World. They bring an extra feeling of magic to the parks. Just beware of hitchhiking ghosts!

First Signage for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad Posted at Hollywood Studios

GMR

That was quick! It was just yesterday that the Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios closed its doors for good. Seemingly overnight, all references to the ride were removed and signage for the new ride to take its place were up. The new ride, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad, was announced at last month’s D23 Expo.

Here are the first shots of the new signage:
