Several Disneyland Attractions Closed Due to Major Power Outage

Reports are coming in of a major power outage affecting Disneyland Park. Disney has stated that power is out in Toontown and Fantasyland due to a malfunctioning transformer.

Guests have been evacuated from about a dozen rides including the Monorail.

As of 1:00 pm EST, Disneyland is only accepting Guests for re-entry. California Adventure Park has not been affected by the outage.

As you can imagine, crowds are extremely high at all Disney Parks being we are in the height of the holiday season. Disneyland Tweeted this earlier today:

The Disney Wonder!

Most Disney fans are familiar with the elaborate gingerbread house displays at Walt Disney World Resorts such as the Grand Floridian. Some may not be as familiar with the gingerbread house displays aboard the ships of Disney Cruise Line. For the fourth straight year, the four Disney Cruise Line ships have competed against each other to build the most magical, holiday-themed houses. The pastry, bakery chefs and, deck teams on each ship take pride in designing and decorating the oversized gingerbread house that greets guests when they walk into the atrium to begin their Very Merrytime Cruise. The gingerbread smell is even so wonderful that you start to smell it as you are walking up the gangway before even stepping foot on the ship!

Here is the winning gingerbread house from the Disney Wonder:

Cruise

The gingerbread house on each ship is made with approximately 650 pounds of gingerbread dough, 220 pounds of icing sugar and 5,250 gingerbread bricks. That’s all in addition to pounds of candies, cookies and other fun decorations that make it unique. Of course, the teams on the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Magic also deserve a special kudos for their hard work and imagination. Take a look at their work, and may it inspire you as you make gingerbread houses with your family this holiday season.

And here are the runner-ups from the Dream, Fantasy, and Magic:

Disney’s Care and Conservation of Tigers Supports Species

Disney’s Care and Conservation of Tigers Supports Species

It’s  really exciting that guests are getting an opportunity to observe the Sumatran tiger cubs at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and marvel at their curiosity and playfulness.

Disney’s Care and Conservation of Tigers Supports Species

Disney’s team began about three years of planning for these cubs, following the recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. Because there are fewer than 500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, it’s important that they manage a population within AZA-accredited institutions to ensure they don’t become extinct in the wild.

Disney’s Care and Conservation of Tigers Supports Species

Unfortunately, extinction is a real possibility – even within our own lifetimes. We hope you will be inspired by the stories of these tigers and want to support them in the wild, too. To learn more about tigers and how you can help reverse the decline of these animals, visit DisneyAnimals.com.

'Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Soars to $745 Million Worldwide

Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is showing plenty of force at mulitplexes worldwide with $745.4 million globally as of Sunday.

The North American take has hit $365 million in its first 10 days as of Sunday with the studio projecting another $32 million on Christmas Day on Monday — making it the third highest domestic release in 2017 following “Beauty and the Beast” with $504 million and “Wonder Woman” at $412 million.

“Stars Wars: The Last Jedi” took in $75.1 million in 55 markets for the weekend and has totaled $380.3 million in international box office. It is already the top grossing film of 2017 in both Denmark and Sweden and this fourth highest grosser in the overall European market. The U.K. is the top market with $67.4 million, followed by Germany with $40 million, France with $29.3 million and Australia with $26.9 million.

“The Last Jedi,” which picks up following the events of 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” is so far the 87th highest worldwide grosser of all time, trailing 2016’s “Suicide Squad” by $1.4 million. Rian Johnson directed with  Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o and Domhnall Gleeson reprising their roles. It’s the final screen role for Fisher, who died a year ago.

“The Last Jedi” has lifted 2017’s overall domestic box office to $10.6 billion as of Sunday, 2.6% behind 2016 at the same point, according to comScore. That gap has been as high as 6.1% at the end of August as this year’s box office was pulled down by the slowest summer in a decade.
