Disney Cast Members Host Pie Eating Tribute to Mimi Kaboom

As we all learned a couple of days ago, the actress who brought Mimi Kaboom to life (Stacy Fulford) passed away unexpectedly. In honor of her memory, the Hollywood Studios Streetmosphere characters hosted a pie eating tribute yesterday on Sunset Boulevard.

In March of this year, Fulford signed her 5th contract to appear as a Citizen of Hollywood – beginning her time in that role in 2013.  You may also recognize her as Helga, the German storyteller at Epcot’s Holidays Around the World, a role she has had since 2012.

Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa Offers the Most Magical Rooms in All of Hawaii

Aulani
View of the ocean from a 3 Bedroom Grand Villa

A magical part of staying at Aulani is the wide variety of spacious accommodations to choose from, knowing that each type of room or villa is specially designed for families and provides a welcoming décor that blends Hawaiian tradition and Disney whimsy.

Aulani guests will find themselves surrounded by the beauty and spirit of Aloha. Working with local Hawaiian artisans, Disney Imagineers created a charming and relaxing environment inspired by the fine arts and crafts traditions of ancient Hawaiians.

Earth-tone print fabrics in the rooms take their cue from traditional Hawaiian kapa cloth, characterized by the subtle intricacy of its elegantly embossed patterns. Retro Hawaiian floral print fabrics, locally known as “bark cloth” and popular in the 1930s and ’40s, provide touches of color vibrancy on accent pillows.

Aulani
Standard Room with Ocean Views

Outrigger canoe posts and beams work their way into the design of bedroom headboards – along with clever butterfly joints evoking the ancient Hawaiians’ method for artfully repairing their prized wood calabash bowls.

The homage to Hawaiian culture in the room décor is accented by Disney touches, including distinctive “hidden Mickeys” which guests may discover only on a Hawaii family vacation at Aulani.

In the corridors outside the rooms, wall coverings are embedded with a host of native cultural references – from poi pounders to fish traps to sea urchins – and more “hidden Mickeys” camouflaged within the richly patterned surfaces.

Aulani
2 Bedroom Suite

Rooms and Suites

Aulani features well-appointed standard guest rooms with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, pools or nearby mountains of west O’ahu. All of the rooms have lanai balconies or porches to relax upon and to enjoy the sights of paradise. Standard hotel rooms sleep up to four guests and feature flat-screen televisions, DVD players, small refrigerators, coffee makers and tea service, ceiling fans, wireless internet service and an in-room safe. Parlor suites sleep up to five people.

Aulani
3 Bedroom Grand Villa

Villas

Families can stretch out in deluxe studio, one-, two- or three-bedroom villas which feature separate bedrooms and living room spaces. Guests may also savor gentle trade winds and peaceful moments of reflection on the villa’s private balcony. Other at-home amenities include a deep soaking or whirlpool tubs and stacked washer-dryers. In the larger villas, a dining table provides the perfect opportunity for families to connect over a home-made meal prepared in the villa’s full kitchens, which are well-equipped with modern appliances including full-size refrigerators, stoves, microwave ovens, dishwashers, as well as complete sets of cookware and tableware. The villas can accommodate from four to 12 guests.

Magical Makeovers Await Little Ones on Disney Cruise Line

Little ones can be magically transformed into their favorite princesses or pirate aboard Disney Cruise Line. The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique onboard each of the four Disney Cruise Line ships provides aspiring young princesses and pirates with the full fairy tale treatment with pixie-dusted and piratical makeovers at this very special salon.

Fairy Godmothers-in-training of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the “first mates” of the Pirates League, young royalty and buccaneers can look the part. Disney Cruise Line also has several makeovers that are exclusive to Disney Cruise Line:

  • An Under the Sea Package transforms little cruisers into little mermaids with a two-piece swimsuit, “mermaid tail” wrap, tiara and nail polish that changes color in sunlight.
  • Other cruise exclusive packages include Princess Minnie Mouse and First Mate Minnie Mouse and Captain Mickey Mouse.

Guests can find the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique located on Deck 5 midship aboard the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, and on Deck 10 Forward aboard the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. On pirate party night, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique becomes The Pirates League, where swashbuckling boys, girls, and grownups can get ready to “argh” the evening away.

Magical Makeovers Await Little Ones on Disney Cruise Line

Applications of beards and bandanas, swords and scars, earrings and eye patches are done with the savvy skill of veteran pirates who share their own tales of sea-sailing adventures. After reciting a sacred pirate oath, shipmates and scoundrels are turned loose on their pirate vessel.

For children, a full pirate makeover is available with the First Mate package for boys including bandana, scars, fake teeth, eye patch sword and more. For girls, an outfit available only on the Disney ship is the Empress which includes a Disney Cruise Line exclusive dress, shimmering makeup, face gem, nail polish, earring, eye patch sword and more.

Guests can book makeovers online at www.disneycruise.com in advance of embarkation or onboard the ship during their cruise.

Exploring the Dining Options At Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa

Aulani Dining Options

Inspired by the natural wonders and rich traditions of Hawai‘i, Aulani is the ultimate family getaway—celebrating the beauty, history and welcoming spirit of the island. Guests will enjoy a variety of restaurant options at Aulani—from casual to upscale to lively Character Dining. There’s something to satisfy nearly every taste and style.

ʻAMAʻAMA – Contemporary Island Cooking

Inspired by a beachside house, ‘AMAʻAMA – Contemporary Island Cooking is a stylish open-air restaurant just steps from the ocean. ʻAMAʻAMA is a fish abundant in these waters, a local favorite. This restaurant, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, is right on the ocean, an attraction in itself.

For breakfast, guests can opt for simple eggs and potatoes, or Belgian waffles. However, ʻAMAʻAMA also serves delicious Pacific Rim dishes such as seared island fish or the Japanese breakfast – with Misoyaki Island Catch, tamago, miso soup, steamed rice, and pickled vegetables. The traditional “Loco Moco” breakfast is a sunny-side-up fried egg, white rice and hamburger patty topped with onion gravy. Another guest favorite is a simple Açai Bowl served with berries, banana, granola and local island honey. However, the signature breakfast dish is chocolate milk-dipped haupia (pronounced how-pee-YAH) bread French toast stuffed with bananas and peanut butter (haupia is a traditional coconut-milk based sweet pudding.) And Mauka Maile’s 100% Kona press pot coffee is the favorite morning beverage.

Lunch features American favorites with a twist: an Angus chuck burger with crispy pork belly, pepper jack cheese, and marinated kale; Kālua-roasted pulled pork sandwich in steamed rice buns; and sustainable catch fish tacos with slaw and salsa.

At dinner, ʻAMAʻAMA serves up the best in modern interpretations of Hawaiian cooking. The signature starter is the ʻAMAʻAMA seafood platter, with ceviche, crab legs, jumbo shrimps, and oysters. Other appetizers include big eye tuna poke, macaroni au gratin with lobster and Maui onion soup. Main dish entrées range from seafood Thai curry to grilled prime New York striploin. Fresh fish options include the daily sustainable catch and Hawaiian snapper “lau lau,” served with sautéed spinach, Maui onion, and tomato-ogo vinaigrette.

Sweet endings include a Mocha Chantilly Cake, with Coffee Kanten, Coffee Anglaise, Macadamia Nut Nougatine and Chocolate Gelato, as well as a Lemon Grass Crème Catalana, with Coconut Glace, Black Sesame Nougatine and Fresh Coconut Shavings.

The entryway of ʻAMAʻAMA is framed with a design inspired by the ancient fish traps still used by local fishermen, opening into the spacious dining room with a thatched roof, walls of mosaic, rough stone, or painted in cool shades of blue remindful of the waves of the ocean. A concrete fountain and reflecting pool are the restaurant’s fishing-themed focal point.

Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands

With a buffet that’s open daily for breakfast and dinner, the spirit of the Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands is celebrated in the fresh and flavorful cuisine.

Starting with breakfast, the spread includes everything from a simple Continental offering to a Western breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal, potatoes, pancakes, waffles, French toast – even grilled mahi mahi and grilled Kālua pork hash. The Chinese/Japanese buffet has soy milk, soba noodles, grilled and seared island fish, tamago, greens, miso soup, steamed rice, fried rice and pickled vegetables.

For youngsters, the “Keiki Corner” features fruit, yogurt, granola, Mickey-shaped waffles, chocolate-chip pancakes, eggs, bacon, tater tots and breakfast pastries.

Favorite Disney characters celebrate with diners at “Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration at the Makahiki” every day.

The casual dinner buffet features line-caught sustainable seafood, fresh salads with local greens, rotating carving stations, Asian-inspired entrees, and house-made desserts. A melting pot of cultures, the expansive buffet features starters from a lomilomi salmon to cheeses, lobster bisque, and cioppino. On ice, shrimp, marinated squid, scallops, mussels, lobster and tiger prawns showcase the abundance of seafood. Entrees might include sustainable catch, seafood paella, grille poke, roast duck with plum sauce and chicken wrapped in seaweed. For Asian flavors, there’s sushi and sashimi, Chinese pork buns, fried noodles, dim sum and wok-fried seasonal vegetables. The grill heats up with chicken wings, pork chops, Asian-spiced lamb chops, sausages and assorted satay, while live-action stations feature kinds of pasta with vegetables, meatballs, clam stew, Portuguese sausage, and carved meats or fish.

“Keiki Corner” for youngsters may include macaroni pasta, baked chicken tenders, potato tots and steamed vegetables.

And there are plenty of sweets, such as chocolate brownies, no-sugar-added mango cheesecake, guava mouse cakes, pineapple cobbler, molten chocolate cake and banana coconut bread pudding.

The interior of Makahiki, showcases beautiful works by local artists, from paintings to glass art. In the entry, artists Butch Helemano and James Rumford collaborated to convey the story of the Makahiki season of peace, play and renewal (the Makahiki season is the traditional Hawaiian celebration of the harvest). Rumford sketched the designs and wrote texts for Helemano’s wood carvings that illustrate the sights and events of the Makahiki season. Also in the restaurant, artists Al Lagunero and Solomon Enos collaborated on a mural that depicts feasting and gaming. As day turns to night, the restaurant lighting gradually turns from rose to indigo with the setting of the sun.

Aerial Construction Photos Of Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Hi there Chip and Company friends! It has been a while since we had our last check-in with @bioreconstruct. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to get the latest bird’s eye view to see how construction progress is going at Hollywood Studios. Scaffolding has appeared along the two attractions in Toy Story Land and the Millenium Falcon attraction looks impressive at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Let’s take a look….

TOY STORY LAND (summer 2018)

I’m so excited for when Toy Story Land opens this summer!

Once Toy Story Land is open, Toy Story Midway Mania will no longer use its current entrance. Guests will enter the attraction through this new entrance inside the new land.

Scaffolding has been installed around both the Slinky Dog Dash Coaster and Alien Swirling Saucers. The final piece of track was installed on Slinky Dog Dash back in August.

Woody’s Lunch Box is coming along nicely. According to the storyline from Disney, this is where Andy has used his lunch box and thermos to create a walk-up quick-service window that will serve up tasty meals and old-fashioned soda floats. You can see the concept artwork below.

Toy Story Land

STAR WARS: GALAXY’S EDGE (opens 2019)

New construction work has begun in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It’s amazing that only a service road separates Andy’s Backyard from Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge.

This attraction will give guests the opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission. It won’t be long before the walls will be completely up and we won’t see inside again until 2019. You can see the concept artwork below.

Fun for Children, Tweens, and Teens

Aboard Disney Cruise Line ships, it’s great to be a kid. Children can let their imagination sail free in nearly an entire deck customized just for them. Tweens and teens have places to kick back, and the smallest seafarers are cared for in a colorful space inspired by the classic theme park attraction, It’s a Small World. Dedicated, age-specific areas and customized, interactive programs inspire, entertain and spark the imagination of children up to age 17.

While children are enjoying the most extensive youth activity areas at sea, parents can enjoy the ship “worry-free,” thanks to complimentary wave phones that allow crew or kids to contact parents anytime and anywhere on the ship. Plus, all Disney Cruise Line youth activities are supervised by specially trained counselors and feature some of the longest operating hours at sea. This provides greater flexibility for parents and even more fun for kids.

Relaxation and rejuvenation take center stage at Senses Spa & Salon. The only thing here that’s more indulgent than a massage, body wrap or pedicure is enjoying a treatment in a spa villa complete with an indoor suite connected to a private outdoor verandah with personal hot tub and open-air shower.

Palo, located high atop each ship, is a romantic fine-dining restaurant exclusively for adults. Remy (Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) is the premier Disney Cruise Line adult-dining option. Meanwhile, Cove Café provides the perfect place to sit back and sip a gourmet coffee.

After Hours (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder), The District (Disney Dream) and Europa (Disney Fantasy) are nighttime entertainment neighborhoods offering adults an array of entertainment in clubs and pubs each night.

On the private Disney Cruise Line island, Castaway Cay, adults have a beach all their own. At Serenity Bay, sparkling turquoise waters meet pristine white sand, and two-person hammocks provide a peaceful place to relax. Private ocean-side cabanas are the ultimate venue for luxurious spa treatments.

Exceptional Dining Experiences

Uniquely themed restaurants are as delightful as they are delicious. While guests visit different restaurants each night, the same servers accompany them. This concept provides a variety of dining experiences and menus along with friendly, familiar, personalized service each night.

Disney Cruise Line Offers Fun Unforgettable Experiences for Guests of all Ages

At Animator’s Palate, Pacific Rim flavors combine with California freshness and a host of other cultural and culinary influences. As an added treat, passengers enjoy dinner and a show. Aboard the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, scenes from Disney films magically come alive with color throughout “Drawn to Magic,” a black-and-white to color animation show. On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the restaurant transforms into a shimmering undersea world as part of “Undersea Magic,” where Crush, the sea turtle from the Disney•Pixar film “Finding Nemo,” swims around the room, conversing with and entertaining guests.

Carioca’s (Disney Magic) is inspired by the vibrant atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro. Tiana’s Place (Disney Wonder) features flavors inspired from the Louisiana Bayou. Disney Difference

Most Disney Caribbean and Bahamian cruises lead to the magical shores of Castaway Cay, a private island paradise exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests, with separate activities and areas for families, teens, and adults.

On a Disney cruise, staterooms are family-size, immaculately appointed with a nautical Disney flair and smartly designed to let guests stretch out in style and comfort. As an added convenience, most staterooms feature a “split bath-and-a-half” with a sink and tub/shower in one room and a sink and toilet in a separate room.
