Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Main Street U.S.A Vehicles To Close for Refurbishment at Disneyland

Dumbo the Flying Elephant and Main Street U.S.A Vehicles To Close for Refurbishment at Disneyland

Two of Disneyland’s original park attraction will be closing temporarily starting on January 8th for some much-needed TLC.  For the first time, the horse-drawn streetcar track on Main Street U.S.A will be replaced in its entirety. This means that the Main Street U.S.A vehicles will be unavailable to ride while the renovations take place.  Also, Dumbo the Flying Elephant will receive a new queue location which means a temporary closure.

Dumbo will close beginning on January 8th  so that Disney can move the location of its queue and erect a new shade structure for guests. The attraction will also get a paint job with Dumbo looking as good as new by the time it re-opens in Early Spring.

While sections of the  Main Street U.S.A track have been replaced before, this is the first time a complete replacement has been scheduled.  The refurbishment will incorporate new brickwork that will enhance the look of the iconic thoroughfare.  The pieces of original track that remain will be salvaged and preserved.  The previously updated pieces of track will be recycled.

For a look at all the renovations taking place at Disneyland Resort in the weeks ahead check out this article.

November 2: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
E.T.A. Hoffman’s classic tale is a holiday favorite for so many, and director Lasse Hallström is bringing the story to the big screen this November 2. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms follows Clara (Mackenzie Foy), who is searching for a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box containing a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice, and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers, and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. The film also stars Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and features a special performance from dancer extraordinaire Misty Copeland.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

The filmmakers and star of 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph—director Rich Moore (Zootopia), producer Clark Spencer (ZootopiaBolt), director/writer Phil Johnston (writer, Wreck-It RalphZootopia), and actor John C. Reilly—are back for the further adventures of everyone’s favorite online hero. Reilly, who again lends his voice to the bad-guy-turned-good Ralph, will reunite with Sarah Silverman (as she reprises the role of Vanellope von Schweetz, the girl with the game-winning glitch) and Jack McBrayer (back as Fix-It Felix). And they’ll be joined by an all-new character, Yesss, voiced by Golden Globe® winner Taraji P. Henson (Hidden FiguresEmpire). But that’s not all… as first announced at last year’s D23 Expo 2017, an incredible group of Disney Princesses will also lend their dulcet tones to a very special sequence in the film—including Auli‘i Cravalho (Moana), Kristen Bell (Anna in Frozen), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel in Tangled), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana in The Princess and the Frog), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Paige O’Hara (Belle in Beauty and the Beast), Jodi Benson (Ariel in The Little Mermaid), and more!

Check Out the Story Behind Maria and Enzo’s Ristorante – Now Open in Disney Springs!

Check Out the Story Behind Maria and Enzo's Ristorante - Now Open in Disney Springs!

Are you ready for some authentic Italian cuisine in Disney Springs? Maria and Enzo’s Ristorante officially begins serving dinner to the public on January 5, 2018. The dining destination brings the warmth of Italy and the dreamiest Italian cuisine to Central Florida, courtesy of Executive Chef Theo Schoenegger. Guests can expect lunch and brunch service later this month.

Fittingly, the media sneak peek on January 4th coincided with National Spaghetti Day, providing the perfect Italian backdrop for the occasion. A dedication ceremony featured Italian ambassadors, chefs, executives from Patina Restaurant Group, Delaware North (Patina Restaurant Group’s parent company), Disney; and very special guests Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

Disney restaurants often have a backstory, part of the company’s tradition of immersive storytelling. Mirroring that tradition, Patina Restaurant Group collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to create the story for Maria & Enzo’s.

“The story behind Maria and Enzo is one of travel, food, love and friendship, all steeped in Italian tradition,” said Valenti, referring to the backstory of Maria and Enzo, an Italian couple that immigrated to Central Florida in the 1920s. “Their story is set in a long-forgotten sea-plane air terminal that became the setting for the restaurant.

“We couldn’t be happier to have a chef as talented as Theo Schoenegger,” Valenti continued. “A native Italian with an incredible repertoire, his cooking has a delicious authenticity that brings the story to life.”

Following the dedication, media and special guests enjoyed the food and hospitality at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante, where Chef Schoenegger presented a variety of signature dishes including, of course, spaghetti in honor of National Spaghetti Day.

Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante

An intimate Italian trattoria set in the once-abandoned Disney Springs airline terminal from the 1930s, now transformed into a restaurant. The dining room is open and airy, featuring 50-foot ceilings with views of Lake Buena Vista. The restaurant interiors showcase artifacts that recall air travel of the time, with brightly illustrated pictographs, reimagined air terminal boarding gates and a First Class Lounge where randomly selected guests are upgraded upon arrival. The menu, created by Michelin star-rated Chef Theo Schoenegger, features a variety of handmade pasta including Busiate con Granchio (spiral pasta with crab), Rigatoni all Norma (eggplant, chile, tomato, ricotta salata) and ‘Ncasciata al Forno (Sicilian baked pasta) – served tableside. Other highlights include Braciola di Maiale (Berkshire pork chop, plum mostarda), Nodino di Vitello (grilled veal chop) and Tonno (grilled ahi tuna steak, pistachio pesto) all served with rosemary potatoes and tempura fried vegetables. The spectacular wine list of more than 100 bottles is – lovingly — primarily Italian. The restaurant is open from 11:30 a.m. to 12 midnight daily, with weekend brunch coming soon.

The backstory is that the restaurant was the dream of Maria and Enzo who met in Italy before moving to Florida and wanted to introduce Italian cuisine to the townsfolk of the bustling Disney Springs. An airline pilot, Enzo was drawn to an abandoned airline terminal, which became the spacious setting for the restaurant.

Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar

A speakeasy-inspired by Roman aperitivo bars, located in the storied rum-runner tunnels that adjoin Maria & Enzo’s. Inspired by Florida’s true history of rum running, Enzo’s Hideaway pours Prohibition-era cocktails and serves a casual menu of hearty Roman dishes, such as the city’s legendary Bucatini alla Carbonara (hollow spaghetti with creamy egg and pancetta sauce) and Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe (square-cut spaghetti with pecorino and black pepper). In honor of the weekly dinners Enzo hosted for family and friends, the tunnel bar hosts Sunday Supper, a family-style meal each week. Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar is open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily.

The backstory tells the tale of Enzo and Maria discovering a long-hidden cavern below the terminal that connected to abandoned sections of the next-door power plant (which today is called The Edison). To Enzo’s astonishment, he came across a Prohibition-era hideaway where a team of flying rum-runners once gathered. Evidence of smuggler activity was everywhere, untouched for decades. Bottles and casks of rum were found along with a roster of flying operatives and their code names. It was a fascinating glimpse at an unknown chapter of the town’s past. Enzo shared his discovery with the local historical society and also decided that the space might make an irresistible spot for dining and socializing. Now it is a cozy gem of a hideaway for Enzo to highlight the family recipes he grew up on, featuring specialties from Rome and nearby regions.

Pizza Ponte

A fast-casual concept and the perfect place for a quick bite serving pastries, pizza, Italian sandwiches, and espresso. Pastry specialties include Bomboloni (Italian doughnuts) Sfoglia di Riso (pastry with rice cream) and Tiramisu. Savory items include signature Triangolo (stuffed pizza bread) sandwiches, Porchetta (roast pork) and Pizza al Taglio, Sicilian-style pizza by the slice. Pizza Ponte is open from 8 a.m. to 12 midnight daily.

The backstory reveals that Maria began a simple cafe inside the lobby of what was once the bustling Disney Springs air terminal. Pastries and pasta were the initial offerings, but eventually, the family was able to install wood-fired pizza ovens that helped make them even more successful. Pizza Ponte is accessed from the entrance beneath the air terminal’s old Control Tower. Within this entrance, guests can view family photos from Maria and Enzo’s many cousins, uncles, aunts and others who began to arrive as their business began to thrive. An elegant wraparound window anchors the space and catches a lot of attention from pedestrians crossing the bridge from the Disney Springs West Side. Offerings reflect many of the most popular foods from both Maria’s roots in Southern Italy and Enzo’s favorites from the region around Rome.

New: Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar at Disney Springs

New: Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar at Disney Springs

I am so excited to get to share the details of Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar! I’ve been following this concept since the rumor phase and am thrilled that it came to life.

With the entrance being slightly off the beaten path, from the moment you approach the door for Enzo’s Hideaway, you know you’re in for a real treat. As I entered through the slightly hidden doorway, I felt as though I had been transported into a speakeasy with a unique history. An owl umbrella holder sits next to a pillar just beyond the door; the pillar is covered with scribbles and writings to add to this unique old-school vibe, including sentiments such as, “I was born in the wrong era.”

New: Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar at Disney Springs

As you continue into the underground Tunnel Bar, shelves of whiskey, rum, and other libations sit as though freshly brought in by rumrunners. The jaunty sign above them starts off with the sheet music for the song, “Nobody knows how dry I am!” What a fun place!

New: Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar at Disney Springs

Throughout the booths going down the hallway, the speakeasy theme is continued with collages of newspapers speaking of prohibition, flappers, and headlines such as, “Who is your bootlegger?” The partially exposed brick walls add to the idea of this roughly hewn bar, which I imagine could have been a hangout for the who’s who of the prohibition era.

The décor in the main bar and seating area is the perfect mixture of the rough speakeasy style and clean art-deco lines. A cooler filled with various meats and cheeses hangs out just next to the kitchen and bar, where delicious treats are created for the guests. There is even a very exclusive-feeling table in a room stocked with shelves and shelves of wine. What a fun place to sit!

Enzo’s Hideaway is the type of place that makes me wonder, “If these walls could talk, what would they say?” In a way, these walls do tell a part of their story. One side of the Tunnel Bar is covered in art, scribbles, inventions, and even inspirational quotes. Ranging from names of individuals, The Andrews Sisters, invention sketches, and quotes such as, “A goal without a plan is just a wish,” I could spend a couple of hours just trying to see all of the details.

There is a bit of a hidden gem over on the left side of the sketch wall. If you look closely, you can see the signature of Thomas A. Edison, and a quote by Edison himself: “’I have not failed I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work!’ – T. E.” Could this be a sign that this is where Edison hung out when not at his namesake location, right next door? The story is thrilling!

So next time you are at Disney Springs, PLEASE drop by Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar. You won’t be disappointed, trust me!

We are thrilled to share the brand new Maria and Enzo’s location with you!

Get your passport ready to go back to the golden age of travel…

To begin our journey into the past, Mickey and Minnie, along with the Disney Ambassadors, arrived to celebrate the dedication of one of Disney Springs’ newest locations. Two swing dancers even swung their way into the show!

Located in the Landing at Disney Springs, Maria and Enzo’s is nestled along the water beside the brand new Edison and across from the STK Restaurant.

Upon entering, you are greeted at the Passenger Check-In. The costumes are a throwback to times when air travel was glamorous and we finally had the world at our fingertips. The art deco era has always been a favorite period of ours and getting to take a trip to this whole new world of dining is a welcome experience and treat!

Overlooking the dining space, you are greeted with vintage world traveling artwork and posters that welcome you into the space. In the center of the room, the featured lighting is a vintage-styled globe hanging above. While straight ahead the windows frame the water and offer peeks of the Characters in Flight balloon right outside.

Tucked away off one of the gates is the First Class Lounge. It is a smaller more intimate dining area away from the main two-story dining room.

There were several samplings to be enjoyed today. I started with the caprese salad skewers. The colorful tomatoes and fresh mozzarella had a light dressing on them (possibly an olive oil drizzle) that added a nice flavor and were a lovely flavor complement. I loved the pieces of fresh basil that rounded out the traditional caprese combination. The skewers were a fun twist to this salad and were a nice start to the afternoon!

One treat that looked rather tasty was the Arancini di Carne – these rice-filled balls were an unexpected and savory combination of flavors. Just from the look of the outside, I was expecting something more along the lines of a mozzarella cheese ball, but the inside was filled with an incredibly savory blend of fried rice stuffed with meat ragu, peas, and mozzarella. It was wonderful and a new mix of flavors that I had not experienced before. This dish definitely did not disappoint and was the perfect flavor for a chilly day like today.

The rigatoni sampler had a savory marinara sauce paired with eggplant in the mix. The sauce itself tastes like it has been lovingly cooked by a sweet Nonna for her family’s Sunday supper. It has a good balance of herbs and spices married with the freshness of tomatoes, creating a true sauce symphony, delicately complemented with the shavings of cheese sprinkled on top.

Maria and Enzo’s has a way of bringing a rustic and homemade flavor to their elegant cuisine which makes it taste like something that is not only delicious but also made from recipes filled with passion and love.

The cocktail and wine samplings were well rounded. The Classico cocktail was a mix of gin, vermouth, and bitters. It had a pretty color palette with the orange slice garnish and was a superb balance of flavors. I typically love sweet drinks, but this was a nice savory bouquet of flavors with just a slight hint of sweetness. If you enjoy gin-based drinks, it could be a good choice! If you prefer sweet or fruity drinks, there is an excellent selection of cocktails on the menu. We were also offered a red wine, white wine, and prosecco. The prosecco was light and crisp with hints of citrus and a well-rounded flavor. I am looking forward to trying more menu selections in the future.

For dessert, the Italian cheesecake pops brought a nice “pop” of flavor. The cheesecake was creamy with a hint of citrus for a bit of lightness. There were a few different toppings, including pistachios that were sprinkled on the outside. These cheesecake pops are a great way to indulge in some dessert if you want to try a smattering of different flavors or are looking for something fun to share after a big meal.

The tiramisu was wonderfully creamy and the flavor of the ricotta truly shined through. It was lightly sweet, but not to the point of covering the flavors of the cheese. Maria and Enzo’s does an excellent job of showcasing the natural flavors of the foods while enhancing those flavors without overpowering them, whether it’s with the savory dishes or finale of desserts.

Should you find yourself wanting a traditional Italian treat, definitely try the cannoli! One end was filled with chocolate chips and the other had pistachios. The cream filling of the cannoli featured hints of coconut that was a pleasant departure from the various other dessert flavors in our samplings.

One of our favorite things about the new Maria and Enzo’s restaurant (as well as The Edison and Enzo’s Hideaway) is how they each transport you to a different time and place to share with your friends and family.

Now Open: The Edison at Disney Springs!

The Edison in Disney Springs. There is so much to say about this place! From the moment you walk in, you are instantly transported into what feels like an alternate, steampunk universe.

From the giant clock ticking on the wall, perhaps powered by the furnace beneath, every detail in the Edison is absolutely flawless. Lamps made from old repurposed machinery light the room, creating one of the most picturesque locations that I have ever seen. Silent movie clips are projected onto various walls of this establishment, and excitement electrifies the air. Even the sinks (located just outside of the restrooms) are themed to perfection!

There are three different bar areas within The Edison: the primary (gorgeous!) downstairs bar, a secondary downstairs bar, and a third bar located upstairs, making sure that a tasty tincture is always close by.

The industrial appeal is instantly apparent in The Edison. The steampunk aesthetic turns “ordinary” items into extraordinary works of art. From dark leather tufted couches to working gears, heavy curtains, and artfully placed typewriters, everything in The Edison makes you feel as though you’ve walked into a different and fascinating world.

The Edison strives to be a place that both adults and kids can enjoy while making sure that there is designated time for the 21 and over crowd. After 10 pm The Edison becomes exclusively 21+ and from Thursday through Saturday, there is a $15 cover charge after 10 pm. However, this is when additional entertainment begins! Live music, cabaret singers, dancers, and aerialists emerge to both thrill and entertain you. The tables downstairs are moved to open up a dance floor for those who care to dance the night away!

Now Open: The Edison at Disney Springs!

Up until 10 pm, people of all ages are welcome at The Edison! At times, a DJ is present to play a delightful mixture of tunes. If you’re really lucky, you may even get to meet Rory the Inventor and have him show you some of his latest trinkets!
