Circle of Life at The Land Pavilion Will Be Permanently Closing

The ‘Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable‘ in Epcot at The Land pavilion will be having its final showing on February 3, 2018. A youth program by Disney, Disney Performing Arts, will begin using the space for performances and classes.

Circle of Life is a 20-minute live action movie featuring Simba, Pumba, and Timon from The Lion King movie telling an important lesson about the environment. The film debuted on January 21 1995.

Kendrick Lamar to Produce Black Panther: The Album

Black Panther: The Album

Kendrick Lamar, an internationally-celebrated Grammy Award winning global super star, and Anthony Tiffith Billboard Magazine’s Executive of the Year, are set to curate and produce “Black Panther: The Album.” This album will feature music from and inspired by the new Black Panther film from Marvel Studios. The lead single, “All The Stars,” featuring Kendrick Lamar and label mate SZA, produced by Sounwave will also be included.

Lamar and Tiffith will collaborate with Coogler directly in the creation of music specific to the needs of the film. This will mark the first time that Lamar, whom Rolling Stone dubbed “the greatest rapper alive,” will write, produce, perform and curate for a major motion picture.

This collaboration represents the first time in Marvel Cinematic Universe history that Marvel Studios will integrate multiple original recordings created specifically for the film.

Lamar was hand-picked by Coogler for this first film music collaboration. “I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film. I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store,” said Coogler.

Lamar added, “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel’s vision.”

With just a little over a month before the next major Marvel film hits theaters, Disney released this exciting featurette that offers some insights into the creation of the Black Panther. The video features Kevin Feige and Stan Lee as they examine the origins of this much loved superhero in this “From Page to Screen” preview.

The Black Panther which will hit cinemas on February 16th follows T’Challa, who after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

“Black Panther” stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.

Imagineer Sues Disney for Allegedly Violating Family Medical Leave Act

Disney Imagineer, Angela Devore, was hired by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development in May 2014. Shortly after, in Fall 2015, Devore was notified that she would have to travel to Shanghai Disney in January 2016 for about nine weeks to work as a set director for the Shanghai Resort. Devore informed her superiors that she would have to leave Shanghai early to care for her elderly father. At this time, Devore says she was told that she had to go the full nine weeks or not at all and suggested she could check on her father from Shanghai.

This is where Devore claims that Disney violated the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The lawsuit alleges that Devore’s supervisor, Bethann Brody, told her after requesting to come home early, “This company doesn’t care about you or your family.” Brody allegedly also went on to say, “Isn’t there a state-run home in Maryland you can put him in?”

Devore states that her time off request was originally approved. However, soon before departing for the Shanghai Resort, Devore reports that her position with Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development was terminated.

Disney has not commented on this lawsuit.

It seems like it’s not just my kids who think Elsa is to blame for the current cold snap we’re seeing!

The Police Department in Slidell, LA has issued an arrest warrant for the Ice Queen herself!

“WANTED: Slidell PD has issued an arrest warrant for Queen Elsa from Frozen,” the Slidell Police Department said on Facebook.

They are offering a $100,000 cash reward for her capture, “Dead or Alive.”

The idea originated with the Harlan Police Department in Kentucky, which posted a similar photo on social media several years ago.

Even parts of Walt Disney World, like the water parks and resort pools are closed due to the weather!

Could Disney Have Secretly Revealed the Opening Date of Toy Story Land?

This morning at Chip and Co., we ran an article announcing that Walt Disney World is once again offering 3 or 4-day Florida Resident tickets providing a nice discount for locals visiting the theme parks from January 4 to June 24th, 2018. For complete details of this special offer click here.

There’s one thing in particular about this discount that has us excited (other than the amazing savings). If we look back to when Disney ran the Florida Resident Ticket Discount last year (2017) the offer was valid from January through until June 9th. However, Animal Kingdom ran blackout dates during the opening of Pandora: The World of Avatar which premiered on Memorial Day weekend. This makes sense as Disney would not want to offer deep discounts during a hotly anticipated opening weekend.

So what does this mean for Toy Story Land? We know via official word from Disney that Hollywood Studios ‘newest expansion is slated to open up in the Summer of 2018. This led many Disney insiders to speculate that Memorial Day Weekend might once again be chosen for the launch. However, if we look at the Florida Resident Ticket Discount for this year, there are no blackout dates suggested for Hollywood Studios. It seems unlikely that Disney would offer discounted tickets during Toy Story Land’s opening. This has us wondering if the Florida Resident Ticket Offer might point to an end of June opening for Toy Story Land?

Though this may spell bad news for those heading to Disney in late May or early June that were hoping for a Memorial Day launch, it is consistent with Disney’s suggestion of a Summer opening.

Readers should note that this is mere speculation based on the above-mentioned ticket discounts and that Disney has yet to announce an official opening date for Toy Story Land. This is something that we here at Chip and Co. will continue to monitor closely. Readers are encouraged to keep following along for the latest Toy Story Land news.

Exciting news for Star Wars fans! Disney Cruise Line has just announced their line-up of guest presenters coming to Star Wars Day at sea this year. Guests aboard these sailings will be able to meet the presenter and hear their incredible stories.

One of the more notable guest presenters will be fan-favorite Star Wars actor Warwick Davis aboard the March 17-24, 2018 Disney Fantasy sailing. Warwick appeared in different roles in several Star Wars films including the iconic Ewok Wicket in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. He also made appearances in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Warwick will make his Star Wars return in the upcoming, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The Star Wars Day at Sea event features a full day of fun, including Star Wars-themed family and youth activities, character encounters, a costume celebration and a thrilling deck party with a spectacular fireworks display.

Check Out What's New Among the 2018 Sports Events at Disney!

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort hosts thousands of athletes every year and 2018 will be no different. In 2018 athletes of all ages and abilities are set to train and compete. Among the 2018 sports events at Disney will be the NFL Pro Bowl Week. The kickoff to the new year begins with the 25th Annual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend beginning on January 4th and is presented by Cigna. You can find the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at the complex during this time. The weekend will include kids’ races, 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon races. The event brings more than 100,000 athletes and spectators to the area. That number makes this the largest sporting event in Central Florida.

A week later on Jan. 12, collegiate cheerleading and dance squads will yell, tumble and stunt their way to glory in the National College Cheerleading & Dance Championship, the most prestigious college cheer event in the country.

And to close out a busy January, the top stars representing the AFC and NFC conferences will return to the sports complex for NFL Pro Bowl Week festivities. In addition to team practices, the 2018 Pro Bowl Skills Showdown will take place at the sports complex, pitting AFC and NFC athletes against each other in unique competitions, such as:

Kick Tac Toe: A new challenge this year which will test the accuracy of kickers with a version of the classic game.

Gridiron Gauntlet: A selected number of players from each team will participate in a relay race which showcases strength, speed and agility.

Drone Drop: A bonus event where one player from each team will attempt to catch footballs dropped from drones from increasing heights above the field. The player who records the highest catch total wins a monetary prize that will be donated to the charity of his choice.

Pro Bowl Week culminates with the 2018 Pro Bowl, held Jan. 28 at Camping World Stadium.

In February, the Atlanta Braves return for their 21st spring training season at Disney, with games getting underway at Champion Stadium on Feb. 26. The Braves will host the World Series Champion Houston Astros (Mar. 8), as well as Washington Nationals (Feb. 26, March 1), St. Louis Cardinals (March 3), Miami Marlins (March 4) and New York Yankees (March 9, 24), among others.

For fans in attendance, Disney character appearances and special moments such as kids running the bases after every game are some of the in-game entertainment opportunities that make Braves spring training at Disney a unique experience. Individual spring training game tickets are on sale at www.espnwwos.com/braves, through Ticketmaster outlets (800-745-3000) and at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Box Office. Tickets range from $15 (general admission berm seating in left field) to $59 (lower level reserved seats).

There are sneakers inspired by Snow White, the Evil Queen, and all 7 of the dwarfs! The entire collection comes in the GEL-Lyte shoe style. All of the shoes have incredible details, which tell the character’s story, yet are still subtle enough that they don’t look like a kid’s light up character shoe.

The Snow White sneaker has a gorgeous velour texture to the shoe, as well as a big crimson velvet bow. The velvet bow is even detachable, for when you need to run from the Evil Queen! Speaking of the Evil Queen, purple and black shoes with a large golden crown embellishment are inspired by her wicked majesty. Even the bottoms of these royal runners are flecked with golden sparkles!

All 7 Dwarfs – Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey – are brought to life in their own unique way. Fleece lining detail, black laces, prints and material combinations are inspired by the Dwarfs’ bed frame and color palettes from each outfit.
