Star Wars and Marvel Films To Be Pulled From Netflix With Viewing Only Available on Disney Streaming Service

In a move that will no doubt stir up some controversy, Bob Iger announced today that the Walt Disney Company has decided to move Marvel and Star Wars films from Netflix to its upcoming streaming service which is set to debut at some point in 2019.

This announcement has put to rest speculation on the future of these titles after Disney announced last month that they are developing a Disney-branded direct-to-customers streaming service. The service would include Disney and Pixar titles which would also be moved from Netflix. As part of Disney’s new venture, plans are also in the works to produce at least four original movies per year as well as original series and made-for-TV movies.

No details have been released as of yet regarding official subscription prices.

Hurricane Irma is headed for Florida, and as always Disney is making the safety of its guests top priority; because of the hazardous weather quickly approaching, Disney has cancelled select Epcot Food and Wine Festival events.

Epcot International Food and Wine Festival’s What’s Cooking With… event on Sunday, September 10th with Alex Guarnaschelli is now cancelled.

Also Cancelled are the Mix It, Make It, Celebrate It! sessions for both Monday, September 11th and Tuesday, September 12th.

With Hurricane Irma getting closer, Disney has decided to cancel select ticketed events this weekend in order to maintain guest safety. Night of Joy and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party are both affected.

The event scheduled for Saturday, September 9 has been cancelled. Friday’s performances are still happening as scheduled. Guests with tickets for Saturday are welcome to attend Friday’s event instead by exchanging their ticket at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Box Office starting at 4:00pm Friday. If you would rather receive a refund you can call the Ticket Services department at (407) 939-7523.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

The party scheduled for Sunday, September 10 has been cancelled. All other party dates are still happening as scheduled. Guests with tickets for Sunday are welcome to choose one of the following options:

Plaza de la Familia, an all-new festivity that celebrates Disney·Pixar’s “Coco” and the everlasting bonds of family is coming to Disney California Adventure Park. The festival will begin September 15 at Paradise Gardens.

Plaza de la Familia is “A Musical Celebration of Coco,” featuring an entertaining group of storytellers and original songs from “Coco” in a performance of dance and music. Singing host, Mateo, is joined by an ensemble of Folklórico dancers and the Grammy-winning Mariachi Divas, bringing to vibrant life three of the film’s enchanting songs.

Digital Fastpass Service Announced For Shanghai Disney Resort

Big news for Shanghai Disney today! Guests will no longer need to wait in lines to obtain Disney FastPass tickets. Shanghai Disney Resort has just announced that its popular Disney Fastpass service will be transformed into a digital system, enabling the convenience of booking and redeeming Disney Fastpass on mobile devices from anywhere within the theme park, at no additional cost.

After the introduction of the digital platform in this fall, guests visiting Shanghai Disneyland are encouraged to download the resort’s latest version of the official app, through which they will be able to reserve digital Disney Fastpass tickets for participating attractions on their mobile phones from anywhere within the theme park.

“At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we continue to build on our legacy of innovation to take the entire Disney guest experience to another level and provide new ways for our guests to make the most of their visit,” said Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “Since the opening of Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, the response to our world-class attractions and entertainment has been overwhelming. The introduction of the digital Fastpass service in the world’s largest mobile market is part of our ongoing commitment to providing Chinese guests with opportunities to further customize their experience and make it even easier to create unforgettable memories with their families and friends.”

Disney Fastpass has been enjoyed by millions of guests visiting Shanghai Disneyland in the past year, allowing guests to better plan their visit to the theme park. Starting this fall, guests will continue to enjoy the Disney Fastpass service at no additional cost but in a more efficient and flexible way. Instead of hurrying to designated Guest Services locations, guests will soon be able to obtain a digital Disney Fastpass ticket through the official Shanghai Disney Resort app. After entering the theme park, guests can associate their activated ticket with the app, and then follow the instructions to view, select and reserve a digital Disney Fastpass, as well as check the designated return time. Once at the Disney Fastpass entrance of their selected attraction, guests can simply present the QR code on their device or park ticket for scanning. After the validation of the Fastpass as well as the photo identification associated with guests’ park ticket, guests will then be able to enjoy the faster access to the fun.

Along with the digitalization of Disney Fastpass, Disney Premier Access, launched earlier this year, will also be available for purchase through the app from anywhere within the park, while supplies last each day. Disney Premier Access allows guests to enjoy faster access to participating attractions anytime during their visit.

Since the opening of the first Disney theme park in 1955, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has pushed the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver a world-class guest experience for everyone, using technology in a smart, seamless and magical way to enable the next level of storytelling. Disney Fastpass has been enjoyed by millions of guests visiting Disney parks around the world each year and continues to evolve at each of our destinations, including Shanghai Disney Resort. While each Disney destination provides different Fastpass options based on how guests enjoy their visit, those options stay true to the core principle of improving the guest experience, allowing guests to get to the fun faster.

Guests will continue to have the option of obtaining a Disney Fastpass ticket at Fastpass kiosks located in each land’s Guest Services, just as they do today. After scanning their park ticket at the Fastpass kiosk, their park ticket will automatically be linked with a digital Disney Fastpass to their selected attraction. At the Fastpass entrance of their selected attraction, guests can scan their park ticket to enjoy faster access.

Disney Fastpass and Disney Premier Access tickets are subject to availability and non-transferable. All Disney Fastpass and Disney Premier Access tickets will be date-specific and valid for admission for one person, one time only on the date obtained or purchased. A brand new holiday celebration has just been announced for Hollywood Studios! Guests can experience Sunset Boulevard with twinkling lights and snow! This all-new event will take place from November 9 through December 31, 2017.

As 2017 draws to a close, and night falls on Disney’s Hollywood Studios, an unforgettable scene starts to unfold for Guests of all ages. Billboards suddenly begin to move into motion and tell a tale, courtesy of iconic characters sharing their love for the season. All the while, the Hollywood Tower Hotel—a.k.a. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror—magically transforms, bringing to life the characters’ stories.

Disney character moments include:

Mickey and Minnie reminiscing about a hometown Christmas as the scene shifts into a romanticized, Norman Rockwell-inspired town—starting in black and white before slowly changing into color.
The Toy Story characters guessing which new toys are coming this Christmas as the scene becomes covered in holiday wrapping paper.

JetBlue Offering $99 Flights Out Of Florida For Hurricane Irma Evacuation

JetBlue, the New York based airline, is making it easier for people to evacuate Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma. They announced that it has discounted the price of nonstop flights out of Florida to $99 plus tax. Connecting flights are available at a higher price point of $159.

This sale will run through September 13 while seats are still available. JetBlue also announced that additional aircraft have been added to service these cities from it’s available inventory.

JetBlue’s complete statement, updated as of last night:

Hurricane Irma Statement – Sept. 6, 7 p.m.

We have cancelled approximately 150 flights as of Wednesday at 4 p.m. We are taking a number of steps to assist existing customers and support new reservations for those looking to evacuate:

For existing reservations, JetBlue is waiving cancellation fees as well as waiving change fees and differences in air fare for rebooking. Details on these waivers can be found HERE.
We have added flights to our schedule out of select cities where we have aircraft available.
For those looking to evacuate areas in the hurricane’s path, we are offering any remaining seats in select markets at a reduced fare of $99 – $159 including government taxes. Due to high interest in this offer, seats are predominantly sold out.

Fares are for one-way direct flights with seat availability through Sept. 13 in select markets including Florida, SAV, CHS, PAP, PLS, POP, SDQ, PUJ, STI, LRM, HAV, SNU, CMW, HOG, NAS. As expected, Hurricane Irma is causing changes, delays, and cancellations to flights, trains, and the roadways in and out of Florida. Let’s take a look at what we know right now:

Orlando International Airport

Last night, the airport reported on their website that they would be ceasing all commercial flights starting on Saturday, September 9 at 5 pm. That message has since been taken down. The current message states “Please check with with your airline for the status of specific flights.” Most airlines are waving change fees.

Highways and Roadways

Northbound Highways in Florida, including I-75 and I-95 have been seeing heavy delays as people are trying to evacuate ahead of the storm. Gas stations have run out or are rapidly running out of gas. Governor Scott of Florida has ordered that all gas takers delivering gas to stations across the state have a police escort to get the gas to the people the quickest.
