Disney Animation Will Hold a “Day of Listening” on Thursday for Staff Members

Disney Day of Listening

The staff of the Disney Animation Studios will meet Thursday for what is being called a “Day of Listening.”

This unprecedented gathering will have a handful of human-resources professionals facilitate a discussion of workplace concerns.  Sources are speculating that this “Day of Listening” is to gage the temperature of the staff when it comes to John Lasseter and his potential return from what is being called an six-month sabbatical. Although, it is also believed by many that Lasseter will not be returning to the studio.

In November Lasseter  took a leave of absences for what he referred to as “painful” conversations and unspecified “missteps” in a memo to staff.  Insiders say that “grabbing, kissing, making comments about physical attributes,” was par for the course with Lasseter.

According to sources, Pixar held a similar event several years ago where grievances about Lasseter’s behavior were expressed.

Disney declined to comment on this upcoming event, but an unnamed source has described the “Day of Listening” as part of a frequent effort to engage with employees.

Emily Blunt to Join Dwayne Johnson for Disney's Live-action Jungle Cruise Film

As we reported in back in 2017, Dwayne Johnson is slated to star in the latest in a long line of Disney live-action films “The Jungle Cruise.” Slated to begin filming in 2018, the motion picture will be based on the classic Disney attraction of the same name that takes park guests on a journey through a range of landscapes including the Nile, the Congo and the Amazon.

Johnson has been attached to the project since 2015, but the role for a co-star has been on-going until this week with several news sources reported that Emily Blunt has signed on to join the cast.  Jaume Collet-Serra is on board to the direct the film and the most recent draft of the screenplay is penned by Oscar Nominee Michael Green (Logan).

This film will mark the third time that Blunt has collaborated with Disney.  Her previous projects include “Into the Woods” and the upcoming “Mary Poppins Returns” where she stars as the title character.

Disney has yet to announce an official premiere date for the project.  Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest in Jungle Cruise news and updates.

Art of Animation Pools to Be Closed for Refurbishment

I have some good news and bad news to share tonight. We’ll start with the bad news first: Two pools will be closed at Art of Animation in Disney World through mid-February. Good news: Only two of the pools will be undergoing a refurbishment and will not be closed at the same time which will still leave Guests staying at Art of Animation with two pools to use!

Art of Animation features three pools: the Cozy Cone Pool, the Big Blue Pool, and the Flippin’ Fins Pool. The Flippin’ Fins Pool is currently closed and will reopen early next month. The Cozy Cone Pool is the next one up to be refurbished and will close after the refurbishment of The Flippin’ Fins Pool is complete. The Cozy Cone Pool will be closed until mid-February. The Big Blue Pool will not be undergoing any refurbishment at this time.

‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ Sheds Some Light on Toy Story Land Coming to Hollywood Studios

Everyone is clamoring to get more details about Toy Story Land coming to Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Concept art along with photos and videos of the Slinky Dog Coaster have been released but we all still want more! While it’s not much, thanks in part to this morning’s early “Super Blue Blood Moon, we were able to get a look at Jessie in the photo above.

Photographer, David Roark was able to shoot the super blue blood moon from within Toy Story Land, which is currently under construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In this shot, Jessie, who will appear as a part of the Slinky Dog Dash attraction, is wowed by this once-in-a-lifetime sight.

Change of Plans: Atlanta Braves Extend Spring Training at Disney World Through 2019!

Just yesterday, we reported that tickets were on sale for the final Atlanta Braves Spring Training to be held at Walt Disney World. Today, I am happy to announce that plans have changed and Braves Spring Training will be held in the ESPN Complex at Disney World through the 2019 season!

The move was made to ensure there is enough time to complete their new facility in West Villages in the City of North Port, Sarasota County.  The Atlanta Braves will play their final 2019 Spring Training game in the new ballpark.  The complex will officially open in April 2019 with the team’s Florida operations moving in at that time.

“We are thankful for our good friends at Walt Disney World Resort and are excited for this extension,” said John Schuerholz, Atlanta Braves Vice Chairman Emeritus. “We also appreciate the foresight and thoughtfulness of our partners in North Port, Sarasota County and West Villages in recognizing such an extension will be of benefit as we continue to make progress on our new facility. When complete, our new, state-of-the-art facility will secure our long-term goal of creating a perfectly positioned and operational Spring Training facility for the next 30 years.”

The Braves have held their Spring Training at Champion Stadium at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida since 1998.

The Fantasy Fare Food Truck located at Disney Springs has moved over to the Marketplace neighborhood at Disney’s Downtown Shopping District. You’ll find it near World of Disney.  Due to its close proximity to much-loved watering hole Dockside Margaritas, guests can now order food while indulging in your favorite cocktail and staff at Fantasy Fare will run it over to you.

To celebrate this union Fantasy Fare is offering up a new menu with a range of delicious items that go perfectly with the margaritas available at Dockside.

New items on the menu include beef empanadas with salsa, sour cream and guacamole, Ceviche Tostados with red cabbage, pico de gallo, queso fresco with lime sour cream and Mexican Meatballs tossed in a Sofrito Sauce and topped with queso fresco and cilantro.

The new menu will be available for ordering both at Dockside Margaritas and the Fantasy Fare Food Truck which is open from 5pm to 10pm on weekdays and 1pm to 10pm on weekends.

Broadway Stars Surprise High School Students

The Delaware high school choir got a big surprise during their Disney Performing Arts workshop at Walt Disney World Resort when Broadway stars Kissy Simmons and Alton Fitzgerald White stopped by for a Q&A session with the group.

Simmons and White, former stars of the Broadway hit The Lion King, popped in on the Cape Henlopen High School students while they were participating in a performing arts workshop at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort Friday, Jan. 26 2018.

Simmons and White, who starred as “Nala’’ and “Mufasa’’, respectively, on Broadway, spent time with the students, answering questions and sharing advice on achieving their dreams as young performers.

Simmons made her Broadway debut in “The Lion King” and reprised her role in 2009 during the Las Vegas production. White originated the role of “Mufasa” in the national tour of “The Lion King,” in 2002 and in the Las Vegas production in 2009.

Disney Performing Arts offers student groups a series of workshops created by entertainment experts and facilitated by Disney Teaching Artists. Each workshop is designed to help students improve their skills and develop new ones on a professional scale. Workshops are available for instrumental, choral, theater and dance groups.

Mobile Order Now Accepts Disney Dining Plan Credits On My Disney Experience App

Mobile Order Disney Dining Plan

Big News! Starting today, Disney World guests utilizing the Disney Dining Plans can now redeem their credits when using the popular Mobile Order feature inside the My Disney Experience mobile app. Previously the only methods of payment accepted through the app were credit cards which left Disney Dining Plan users standing in long lines waiting to order their meals.

With this newest update to the app, Mobile Order is available for all three Disney dining plans, the Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan, the Disney Dining Plan, and the Disney Deluxe Dining Plan. To access Mobile Order, tap the “Order Food” button under “My Plans” in the app.

Currently, Mobile Ordering is available to 23 locations throughout the parks and Disney Springs. It allows guests to order meals and snacks on demand, pay in advance and skip the line at select quick-service food and beverage locations.

Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright, Scarlett Moffatt, Kimberley Walsh and Stacey Solomon Face ‘The Force’ at Disneyland Paris’ Season of the Force

Former professional footballer Rio Ferdinand, former Queen of the Jungle and TV presenter Scarlett Moffatt, singer and TV personality Stacey Solomon, and pop sensation Kimberley Walsh were amongst the first to experience the return of the ultimate Star Wars celebration at Disneyland Paris this weekend, Season of the Force.

Rio Ferdinand, who brought his children and girlfriend Kate Wright along for the adventure, enjoyed a host of the resorts attractions including Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, both of which immerse guests in the many worlds of the Star Wars saga. Kate and Rio, feeling brave, even took on the Dark Side of the Force when they encountered Darth Vader at Star Port in Discoveryland (photos included) before taking in the sights of Main Street USA, Disneyland Park, and enjoying attractions such as Ratatouille: The Adventure and Tower of Terror in Walt Disney Studios Park.

Scarlett Moffatt who visited during Season of the Force for the second year in a row, brought her younger sister Ava and nephew Noah along for family fun in the parks. The group cheered as Star Wars characters including Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader took to the stage in Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away and interacted with Stormtroopers during their afternoon patrol. The family later posed for photos with Elite Troopers and Darth Vader in Star Port (photos included) before enjoying the spectacular light and sound show Star Wars: A Galactic Celebration, which sees the Walt Disney Studios Park landmark Tower of Terror come alive with Star Wars projections, special effects and even characters on stage.

Singer and TV personality Stacey Solomon, accompanied by her 2 children, Zachary and Leighton and niece Mila posed for photos with Elite Troopers before enjoying First Order March; a parade of Stormtroopers through Walt Disney Studios Park led by the daunting Captain Phasma.

It was also a family affair for popstar Kimberley Walsh, who enjoyed Season of the Force with her husband Justin and their 2 children, Bobby and Cole. The family took in an exhibition of Star Wars ships, and later got together with Scarlett’s family to enjoy Disney Stars on Parade in the Disneyland Park.

And of course no visit to Disneyland Paris would be complete without meeting Mickey Mouse! Rio and Kate, Scarlett, Kimberley and Stacey all took the opportunity to pose for photos with the Disney favourite in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in the Disneyland Park (photos included).

Speaking about the weekend Rio Ferdinand and Kate Wright said “We have had an amazing family weekend away. We had a great time and especially loved the Tower of Terror and Star Tours attractions. We can’t wait to come back again!”

Scarlett Moffatt adds “Me and my family have loved every minute at Disneyland Paris’ Season of the Force. I felt like I was in the middle of a Star Wars movie, and we had made so many family memories. I feel very lucky I got to meet Darth Vader, almost to the point I want to go on the dark side. Everyone needs to come and see (Season of the Force at Disneyland Paris). All of the family, whether you’re 4 years old or whether you’re a gran – you’re going to love it!”.

Stacey Solomon enthused “Season of the Force at Disneyland Paris is just brilliant. The whole Star Wars theming around the park was brilliant; the music, the ships, the characters it was all just so brilliantly done and Hyperspace Mountain is officially my favourite ride in Disneyland Paris…it feels like you are flying through the stars – its brilliant!”

Season of the Force, which made its return on 13 January 2018 and will remain at the resort until 25 March 2018, is three months devoted to Star Wars in the two Disney parks; Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. Guests can find themselves face to face with Darth Vader and Stormtroopers, propelled at the speed of light on Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and dazzled by a spectacular show projected onto the architecture of the Hollywood Tower Hotel.
