I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we are just learning that Splash Mountain will be closing for another refurbishment in the early part of 2018. The popular ride at the Magic Kingdom closed on August 28, 2017 for a refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen on November 17, 2017.
Per the Disney Travel Agent website, the next refurbishment on Splash Mountain is expected to begin on January 8, 2018 and last until February 1, 2018.
So, what’s the reason for another refurbishment within a few months? One of the reasons I can think of is the current refurbishment is taking longer than planned and they want to have the ride back up and running for the height of the holiday season. Then, they can close the ride down in January when crowds start to slow down once the holidays and Marathon Weekend are over.
Let’s just hope this is the last refurbishment for a long while now!

Disney Cruise Line has just announced its destinations for the early 2019 season. Their itineraries include an expanded two-month season from San Diego to the sun-drenched Baja and Mexican Riviera plus guest favorite stops in the Bahamas and Caribbean from Florida ports. Guests will also enjoy cruises to the Southern Caribbean from San Juan, Puerto Rico, taking them to visit timeless tropical locales and experience endless amounts of Disney magic.
From January to May, all cruises departing from Florida feature a stop at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. The award-wining island is a pristine Bahamian oasis boasting clear turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, world-class recreation and signature Disney hospitality.

A brand new interactive show is coming to Innoventions at EPCOT this November. “The SpectacuLAB” will have guests exploring their imagination, creativity and curiosity in a fun new way. The Disneyland Paris partner for over 20 years, France Telecom Orange, is celebrating the park’s 25th anniversary by offering a very unique experience. Located opposite the Opera Garnier on Rue Halévy, their Orange Opera Boutique is giving Disney fans a chance to enter the glittering world of Disneyland Paris through a series of dazzling experiences until November 4, 2017.
Upon entering the boutique, guests are given an RFID badge and asked to follow white stars that guide them to the second floor to participate in several magical activities:

Kipling is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the beloved film Snow White with Disney! Kipling is launching a series of handbags, backpacks and accessories inspired by iconic Disney franchises. The new Kipling Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs collection will be out for the Holiday 2017 season.
The series kicks off with Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs this Holiday season. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs animated film was released in 1937, making Snow White the first Disney Princess. The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs themed collection of totes, wristlets, backpacks and accessories celebrates the film’s upcoming 80th anniversary. The must-have styles feature vibrant pops of apple red balanced with splashes of black, gold, and white along with prints of magic mirrors, poison apples and Snow White herself. Special collectible charms featuring the iconic apple have been designed as part of the collection. Prices will range from $29 to $149.
There’s even more exciting news too! More Disney collections will debut throughout 2018 and 2019 that will include other Disney Princesses, classic characters and stories.

As we have been reporting, the largest Union of Walt Disney World Cast Members and Disney have been involved in negotiations since August to increase Cast Member’s wages. Both sides met at the bargaining table again yesterday and failed to meet an agreement.
Since no agreement was met, both parties agreed to extend the existing contract through December 1, 2017.
“All of our Cast Members earn nearly $2 more an hour than Florida’s minimum wage—and on average, our full-time STCU Cast earn over $13 an hour, including overtime and premiums,” Disney said in a statement. “We agree our Cast Members deserve a raise, which is why we’ve offered an increase of up to 5 percent over the next two years for most existing Cast Members.”

Disneyland Resort is set to undergo a multi-year expansion, and part of that includes upgrading, improving and adding new parking and transportation enhancements that have been long envisioned for the resort. An all-new parking structure is to be built on the current Pinocchio surface parking lot next to Mickey & Friends.
This new 6,500-space structure is designed to dramatically improve parking and traffic flow throughout the resort. It is expected to significantly speed up guest arrival by providing a 60 percent increase in the number of access lanes and adding additional parking capacity on the west side of the resort.
The additional parking capacity and access lanes will streamline vehicle arrivals on the west side of the resort and eliminate backups onto city streets. In addition, the tram boarding area will be reconfigured to enhance the transportation experience for guests parking at both the new structure and Mickey & Friends.
Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2018, with the structure set to open in 2019.

La Nouba, Cirque du Soleil’s currently running show at Walt Disney World, will be holding its final performance on December 31, 2017. This Disney Springs staple has been been dazzling audiences for nearly twenty years. But what’s next for the custom-built, freestanding theater? Many have speculated, but it appears that just because La Nouba is leaving doesn’t mean Cirque is saying goodbye.
Jerry Nadal, Senior Vice President of the Resident Shows Division for Cirque du Soleil gave this statement. “We are incredibly proud of the success that La Nouba has had for nearly two decades. We want to thank Walt Disney World Resort for a wonderful relationship over the years. We look forward to announcing what’s next for Cirque du Soleil.”
Disney has also stated that, “Given Disney’s strong relationship with Cirque du Soleil over the years, we may soon have news to share about exciting new entertainment coming to Disney Springs”.
With the opening of Pandora- The World of Avatar this summer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom it would make complete sense that Cirque du Soleil would bring “TORUK – The First Flight” to Orlando.
“TORUK – The First Flight”, inspired by James Cameron’s AVATAR, envisions a world beyond imagination set thousands of years before the events depicted in the film. The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the great leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange predator that rules the Pandoran sky.
Looking at Toruk’s current touring schedule it appears it ends mid-January. Could this hint at a return to the U.S. to its new home venue? Of course this is just strong speculation until Disney makes its official announcement.

We have some super exciting news to pass along to you this evening. A brand new hotel has been announced for Disneyland Resort! This will be the fourth “on-property” Hotel for Disneyland and the first Four Diamond Hotel to open at Disneyland in more than two decades. The hotel will be located near the west end of Downtown Disney and provide a new entrance to the Disneyland Resort.
The stunning 700-room hotel will feature a sophisticated design and be a game-changer for Anaheim, creating a dynamic dining, entertainment and hotel experience for resort visitors and local residents. Extensive landscaping and water elements will create a resort oasis, showcasing nature on every level of the hotel. The hotel’s location embraces the iconic Disneyland Monorail with a dedicated platform inside the hotel for direct transport into Disneyland park.
Guest rooms, public spaces and gardens will provide views of the Downtown Disney District. In addition, an upper-level restaurant and lounge will give guests a view of the popular Disneyland park fireworks.
The ground level of the hotel will include shops and restaurants opening onto an expansive landscaped plaza complete with playful water features, creating a gathering place for guests and visitors. The new hotel also connects all four Hotels of the Disneyland Resort through lush gardens and beautifully landscaped walkways, transforming the gateway on the west side and creating a welcoming entry for our Disneyland Resort guests.
And that’s not all. This new hotel creates great benefits for the community, generating approximately $25 million in new taxes in its first five years of operation that go directly to Anaheim’s general fund. It also will create thousands of additional construction and permanent jobs and attract new hotel guests to the resort area.
Construction is scheduled to start in summer 2018, with a grand opening slated for 2021. An official name for the hotel has not been announced at this time.
