Thor: Ragnarok Goes 4D With James Corden

Thor: Ragnarok Goes 4D With James Corden

Thor: Ragnarok goes 4D?  Is this the future of film?  According to James Corden (The Late Late Show with James Corden) it is.  And he set out to prove it when he sprang this “cutting edge” technology on some unsuspecting movie-goers who thought they were attending a screening of Thor: Ragnarok.  It turns out the 4D just means some actors dressed in cheap costumes (and horrible wigs!) acting out the movie.

But what that theater of people didn’t realize was that actors in Corden’s production would turn out to be the real-life Thor: Ragnarok cast including Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeff Goldblum!  Corden wonders if the viewers will be mad that he’s interrupting the film but in the end jokingly say “…wherever there is change, people will call it disruption,” and decides to go on with the show!

This 11-minute video does contain minor spoilers but it so so worth the watch.  I’m not even a huge Thor fan (gasp!) but I was rolling on the floor laughing when I watched it!

We Get our Tires Dirty with the Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray Review

Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray review

Cars 3We Get our Tires Dirty with the Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray Review revs in on DVD and Blu-ray today, and we were lucky to have the opportunity to review it this weekend! In addition to our Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray review we’ve also got some fun clips to share too! We settled into the pit stop (living-room) with snacks to fuel up on this weekend for a very entertaining ride!

We Get our Tires Dirty with the Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray Review

I went into this movie night knowing my son is a huge Cars fan, and that the second movie fell a little flat with him, so I was anxious to see his take on the new film. I honestly have to say by the end of this film, cheers from my child, and a few tears from me, that this was the sequel that Cars deserved.

The story begins with Lightning at the top of his game, racing, and even still having fun with friends. New comers to the racing scene however erode McQueen’s confidence, and other veteran racers begin to leave the track for retirement. After suffering a devastating blow, Lightning begins his recovery with his trusty new trainer Cruz Ramirez, a spunky car with a penchant for elderly jokes. Together they embark on a journey to get back on the track, as McQueen becomes the mentor to Cruz that Doc was to  him.

The franchisee finally pays the tribute to Doc that I think we all needed but didn’t realize, and helps update the tone for new kids becoming fans of Cars. McQueen still retains a bit of that selfish attitude that gets him in trouble, but by the end of the film I think he finally matures out of it.

From a child perspective my son’s favorite moments were the demolition derby at Thunder Hollow, and the Florida Race at the end of the film. He also really enjoyed the bonus feature “Miss Fritter’s Racing Skoool” which gave us more from the characters we meet at Thunder Hollow.

This movie got back into what made Cars such a fun ride the first time around, plenty of comedy, but still a lot of heart. The film also didn’t rely on Mater for all of it’s jokes, which made it a huge improvement over Cars 2.

The animation was also top notch, which is one of the things Pixar is quite famous for. My husband actually kept remarking on how incredible and real the water looked in different scenes.

The combo pack included a stadium sized amount of bonus features, and all of them were worth checking out!

Bonus Features:

Blu-ray & Digital:

  • Miss Fritter’s Racing Skoool (Exclusive new mini-movie) – Enjoy blindsided testimonials from the Crazy 8’s, touting the transformative impact Miss Fritter’s Racing School has had in reshaping the direction of their lives
  • Theatrical Short: “Lou” – When a toy-stealing bully ruins recess for a playground full of kids, only one thing stands in his way: the “Lost and Found” box.
  • Let’s. Get. Crazy. – Get schooled in the world of demolition derby, the “rules” of figure 8 racing, and how Pixar puts the crazy in the Thunder Hollow Crazy 8 race. This piece is hosted by Lea DeLaria.
  • Legendary – a close, historical look at the racing legends Wendell Scott and Louise Smith, whose tenacity and perseverance got them into the race even when they weren’t invited.
  • Ready for the Race – Disney Channel’s Olivia Rodrigo and NASCAR Racer William Byron check out the Hendrick Motorsports campus to showcase how real-world race training influenced the filmmakers.
  • World’s Fastest Billboard – Blink and you will miss all of the graphics and “car-ified” advertisements created by Pixar’s Art team to make the ”Cars 3” world as believable as possible.
  • Cruz Ramirez: The Yellow Car That Could – Join Cristela Alonzo and the filmmakers on their journey to create a race-car trainer turned champion racer.
  • Generations: The Story of “Cars 3” – For the story team, creating Lightning McQueen’s next chapter didn’t involve just a tune-up, but a complete overhaul.
  • My First Car – A collection of illustrated first-car stories as narrated by members of the “Cars 3” cast and crew. “A Green Car on the Red Carpet with Kerry Washington,” “Old Blue,” and “Still in the Family.”
  • 5 Deleted Scenes – Each deleted scene is set up with an introduction as to why it was removed from the film. Deleted scenes include “The Boogie Woogie,” “The Jars of Dirt,” “Lugnut,” “The Bolt,” and “More Than New Paint.”
  • Cars To Die(cast) For – Take a look at the phenomenon of die-cast toy collecting and the more than 1,000 unique designs that exist in the Cars universe.
  • Commentary – Brian Fee (Director), Kevin Reher (Producer), Andrea Warren (Co-Producer) and Jay Ward (Creative Director)

DVD:

  • Theatrical Short: “Lou” & “Commentary”
  • #95 by the #s in “Cars 3”
5 – As “Cars 3” gets underway, world-champion racer Lightning McQueen is riding high with five Piston-Cup wins under his hood.
11 – Lightning McQueen raced into moviegoers’ hearts 11 years ago—making his rookie debut in “Cars” in March 2006—and remains an iconic character today.
24 – The dramatic, slow-motion crash scene in which Lightning McQueen hits a wall and rolls several times takes 24 seconds.
95 – Lightning McQueen still sports the dynamic #95 with his signature lightning-bolt graphics. He displays five distinct looks in “Cars 3,” including one that pays homage to his original paint, a primer look he gets following the devastating crash, a custom wrap ordered by Sterling, and more.
198 – Lightning McQueen tops out at a speed of 198 miles per hour on his last lap with Cruz Ramirez on Fireball Beach. But Lightning’s nemesis—next-gen racer Jackson Storm—races at speeds pushing 207 mph.

We really enjoyed the movie, and it’s been on at least once a day since! The great part of the combo pack was the digital code. The code allowed us to save the movie to our Movies Anywhere account so we can watch it anywhere we are!

I hope you enjoyed our Cars 3 DVDWe Get our Tires Dirty with the Cars 3 DVD Blu-Ray Review Blu-Ray review, if you haven’t already be sure to pick up your copy of Cars 3 available on Digital, and cruising home today on DVD, Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD, and Blu-ray!

Disney Patents Deployable Weather Shade

Disney Patents Deployable Weather Shade

If a new patent is put into use, guests at Disney parks may soon get a reprieve from the harsh weather conditions they are accustomed to.

A patent under the title “Deployable Shading Structure” outlines the use of canopies that could be deployed and retracted dependent on when Disney feels they are needed, allowing unobstructed views when not in use, and able to be themed as the parks see fit.

“The inventors recognized that none of the existing weather protection devices meet all the needs and demands of operators of larger facilities, including theme and amusement parks, where visitors spend large amounts of their time outdoors. The inventors determined that in contrast to existing devices it would be desirable for a new weather protection device to provide shade when shading is needed or desired, for the device to be hidden or blend in with surrounding architectural features when no shading (or weather protection) is needed or desired, and for the weather protection device to be designed to enhance a show and/or to have a theme-based appearance or characteristics.”

Basically, a canopy is housed in a pole-like structure and could be deployed with either a manual trigger or by using automated sensors that would factor in the number of guests in an area and current weather conditions (amount of sunlight/rain). Here is the patent’s description of the canopy itself:

“The canopy, in some embodiments, is formed of a material with pores or mesh-like openings sized and shaped so that the canopy is at least partially air and water permeable so that the canopy does not behave like a sail or kite. The canopy may be circular, square, or some other shape, and, when deployed, may generally be shaped as an upward facing cup or saucer (or upward facing flower) with each of its web segments (e.g., portions of the canopy extending between support ribs or arms) having an arched or arcuate shape when viewed from the side from the center of the canopy to the outer edges.”

The structures would also have the option of full or partial deployment, depending on need.

As must be mentioned any time a patent is reported on, not all patents end up seeing use. Given the oftentimes chaotic weather that guests experience in Disney parks, specifically the frequent periods of intense sun and rain at Walt Disney World, it would not be surprising to see this technology makes its way onto Disney property. At the very least, we know the problem is being worked on.

Below are more images from the patent that give an idea on what it would look like during implementation.

James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano and Executive Chef Justin Plank are heading the multimillion-dollar redesign of Portobello Country Italian Trattoria into Terralina Crafted Italian. The Disney Springs restaurant by Chicago-based restaurant operator Levy Restaurants Inc. will feature authentic Italian cuisine prepared on a wood-burning grill and oven with decor inspired by Italy’s Lake District.

There is no official word on when Terralina will begin service, other than it will be sometime next year. “We’re taking the time to develop new dishes and create a memorable experience,” Mantuano said during a culinary demonstration at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. The chef/creator took the opportunity to shed some light onto the thought process behind the new venue for his audience. Highlights include:

  • Spreads: Terralina will feature a few favorite menu items from Portobello, but the emphasis is on a unique dining experience and new dishes from start to finish. “Everyone is used to having a plate of olive oil served with their bread,” Mantuano told the audience. “We want to serve Giardiniera.” The Italian relish of pickled vegetables includes peppers, carrots and cauliflower preserved in vinegar or oil, and will be prepared in house. “You can utilize vegetables that are in season, it’s super easy to make, and by doing it yourself, you can control what goes in.”
  • Service: Mantuano and his staff are going beyond the menu to make Terralina a memorable experience. “To me, the most important thing in a restaurant is the service,” said Mantuano. Good food should be a given, but the attention of the staff and their knowledge of their customers is what inspires repeat business from locals and travelers alike. “James Beard said, ‘The best restaurant is the one that knows who I am when I sit down.’ “
  • Sustainability: This was important for the former Portobello and will be an even greater priority at Terralina, according to Mantuano. He and Plank are looking into several ideas, including using kitchen scraps as feed for local farmers and a unique way of tapping into the restaurant’s supply of unused bread. “We go through so much bread, it all can’t be consumed. So, instead of just throwing it away, we’re working with a local brewer to make a beer, just for us, from that bread.”

The restaurant rehab is part of an extensive list of new Disney Springs restaurants currently under construction, with many set to open before year’s end. New architecture and fresh menus serve to heighten the popularity of the already booming dining destination while adding diversity to the region’s restaurant roster.

Disney Springs — popular with tourists and locals alike — is part of Orlando’s $60 billion tourism industry, which last year drew a record 68 million visitors to the region.
