Marvel President Kevin Feige Announces Avengers Doomsday Production Underway

Filming Has Officially Begun on Avengers: Doomsday – And Robert Downey Jr. is Leading the Charge

Marvel fans, assemble — and maybe grab a Doom-worthy metal mask while you’re at it.

The MCU just hit a major milestone: Avengers: Doomsday has officially begun filming! The Russo Brothers themselves (yes, the Infinity War and Endgame dream team) celebrated the start of production by sharing the very first on-set photo… and while it’s just a humble shot of a chair, it speaks volumes. That chair? Labeled “Victor von Doom” — and ready for none other than Robert Downey Jr.

You read that right. The man who launched the MCU into orbit as Iron Man is back — but this time, he’s trading the armor for a very different kind of power as Doctor Doom.

What’s Going Down in Avengers: Doomsday?

If you’re thinking, Wait, wasn’t this supposed to be The Kang Dynasty?, you’re not wrong. But after a massive creative shake-up (and a certain Conqueror getting the boot), Marvel pivoted hard — and fast — into Doom territory.

Now, Avengers: Doomsday will introduce Victor von Doom as the MCU’s newest big bad, setting the stage for the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga.

And based on the excitement swirling around this movie — both online and in London (where the stars have been spotted arriving en masse) — it sounds like Marvel is aiming for nothing short of cinematic world domination… again.

Robert Downey Jr. Is All In on Doom

According to Joe Russo, RDJ isn’t just showing up, suiting up, and cashing a paycheck. He’s living and breathing Victor von Doom. The man is sending in backstory notes. Costume suggestions. Character deep dives. Phone calls with the directors to plot Doom’s every glorious (and terrifying) move.

In short: Robert Downey Jr. is about to give us a Doom that will haunt our dreams — and maybe win a few awards while he’s at it.

(Meanwhile, Tom Holland deserves a medal for keeping this juicy return a secret — despite his, uh, notorious history of spoiler spills.)

Meet Your New (and Returning) Avengers

The confirmed Avengers: Doomsday lineup is already stacked thicker than Thor’s biceps:

  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Anthony Mackie as Captain America
  • Letitia Wright as Black Panther
  • Paul Rudd as Ant-Man
  • Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman
  • Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic
  • Simu Liu as Shang-Chi
  • Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
  • Kelsey Grammer as Beast
  • Ian McKellen as Magneto
  • Patrick Stewart as Professor X
  • …and many, MANY more. (Seriously, the cast list reads like a fan-casting dream come true.)

Notably, there’s still a promise of more casting announcements on the way — which means the Marvel hype train is just getting warmed up.

When Will We See a Trailer?

While cameras are rolling now, don’t expect to see Doom’s face just yet. Speculation is swirling that the first teaser could drop sometime between October and December. Smart bets? Either TRON: Ares (October 10) or Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19). Until then, we’ll just have to obsess over every grainy set leak and Russo Brothers Instagram post. (Which, by the way, they’re very prepared for. Good luck, sneaky paparazzi.)

Why This Is Such a Big Deal

Beyond the simple thrill of another Avengers film, Doomsday marks a huge tonal shift for the MCU. Doctor Doom isn’t just another villain of the week — he’s complex, menacing, and deeply tragic. With Robert Downey Jr. steering the ship, Avengers: Doomsday has the potential to give us one of the richest, most layered performances the MCU has ever seen.

So yes, it’s “just” a chair photo. But it’s also the beginning of something HUGE.

Bring on the Doom.
