New Tiger Cubs Make First Appearance Since Birth

New Tiger Cubs Make First Appearance Since Birth.

If you needed a little pick-me-up this afternoon, I have just what you need! I introduce Jeda and Anala, the 2 baby tiger cubs that were born this past August at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. They made their television debut on “Good Morning America” today.  Starting today, guests are able to see these cubs, and their mom Sohni, on the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

The endangered Sumatran tiger cubs are the first tigers ever born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Sadly, there are fewer than 500 Sumatran tigers living in the wild today. Disney is playing a big part in helping to save these tigers. The cubs were bred through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan conservation program, which aims to promote responsible breeding for endangered or threatened species.

Sohni has been bonding well with the cubs and feeds and grooms them throughout the day, according to a statement posted on Disney World’s website.

“The cubs wrestle with each other constantly and love jumping on plants and logs,” Erin Heavey, an animal care specialist at Animal Kingdom, said in a statement. Heavey said Anala loves trying to “surprise attack” her mother, Sohni, or her brother. She added that the pair have already begun exhibiting their distinct personalities. The name of the male cub, Jeda, means “pause” in Malay, while the female cub’s name, Anala, means “fiery” or “sizzling” in Hindi. “Jeda, in particular, loves ripping the bark off the logs and playing with all the pieces that come off,” Heavey added. “Anala is becoming more adept at sneaking and pouncing and loves hiding behind things.”

Disney’s dedicated and highly trained team of animal care experts and veterinarians spent three years preparing for the birth of these Sumatran tigers and have worked tirelessly to provide them with the best possible care so they can grow and thrive. Part of this work included creating a special new backstage play area where the tiger cubs could learn to swim and climb before venturing into their habitat at Maharajah Jungle Trek

A First Look at Terralina Crafted Italian Coming to Disney Springs in Early 2018

WDW Terralina

Visitors to Walt Disney World are in a for a treat in Early 2018 with the opening of Disney Springs’ newest eatery Terralina Crafted Italian.  This new restaurant is the latest offering by Levy Restaurant group which also owns the popular Paddlefish seafood restaurant at Disney’s downtown shopping district.

The restaurant will evoke the feeling of being in Northern Italy’s Lake District with beautiful open spaces and flavorful regional cuisine.  In a recent piece shared on Disney Parks Blog, Alison Weber, Chief Creative Officer at Levy had this to say about the project: “The story here is of a first-generation Italian family from the Lake District who built a home in Disney Springs expanding it over the years to welcome more friends and neighbors to enjoy their hospitality and of course food! At Terralina Crafted Italian, every detail supports the philosophy that ‘life is meant to be savored’ through the simplest of pleasures.”  Weber adds that communal feel can be seen even in the tiniest of details like the way the table is set which is done in a way that lends itself to “good conversations, storytelling and moments to be enjoyed.”

Terralina will feature an open rotunda with a rustic stone fireplace, an outdoor patio with a verandah bar the spills onto the promenade at Disney Springs and a two-story glass conservatory offering beautiful views of Lake Buena Vista. There is also a herb garden outside the front doors which is a tip-of-the-hat to the amazing flavors that are waiting to be discovered.  The decor will also feature a curated collection of family photos and vintage Italian heirlooms.

Details haven’t been released yet regarding the menu. However,  with James Beard-Award Winning Chef Tony Mantuano at the helm, we know it will be amazing.

The restaurant will open in early 2018.  Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest in Terralina news and updates.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Press Conference…a Recap

Last Jedi Press Conference

In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.

Recently the cast of The Last Jedi came together in a secret location for a press conference, to talk about the making of the film and to share teases (but no spoilers) about the newest chapter in the saga.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Press Conference...a Recap

The question of the cast was asked: How would you say this film feels different from The Force Awakens? What sets it apart from that film?

Director Rian Johnson kicked off the Press Conference by saying, “This is very, very exciting. So yeah, it’s a second movie in the trilogy and I think we’ve been kind of trained to expect it’ll be a little darker and obviously it looks a little darker and the thing is though for me I loved the tone of the original films and also that J.J. captured in The Force Awakens of fun, and that’s like to me it’s a Star Wars movie, you know, first and foremost we were trying to make it feel like a Star Wars movie.”

He continued by saying, “That means you have the intensity and you’ve got the opera, but it also means that it makes you come out of the theater wanting to run in your backyard, grab your spaceship toys and make them fly around, you know, and that’s a key ingredient to it. So we’re going to go to some intense places in the movie but I hope also it’s fun, it’s funny. I don’t know, you’ve seen it.”

Mark Hamill decided to throw in a funny comment, “My answer will be in direct proportion to the amount of screen time I have.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Press Conference...a Recap

Daisy Ridley added, “I mean, the biggest thing for me when I read the script, because you know, even though you’re trying to avoid what people are saying, it’s hard to, and because people responded well to John and me as a team, I was a bit nervous about not being a team so much in this one. So I think for me personally it was a challenge. The film was a challenge and I don’t know what it was like for anyone else, but to be in different combinations of people. So in itself, we’re in different situations, we’re with different people that we are learning about, we’re meeting for the first time, so yeah, felt pretty different for me.”

Press: I want to ask Domhnall and Adam about your two characters. Hux and Kylo Ren had a really interesting relationship in The Force Awakens that I understand is expanded on in this movie, where Snoke sort of plays them against each other, they’re allies but not really. I wondered if you two could talk about their bond or lack thereof, as we enter this film.

Adam Driver responded, “I think definitely there’s a competition and it’s maybe yet to be discovered where that comes from. If anything, I think that’s more of a testament to kind of what everyone has been saying of Rian’s inability to not mind a character in every moment, which seems like an obvious thing, but he doesn’t so he knows that spectacle, it won’t mean anything if you don’t care about anything that’s going on, which again, seems very obvious but I think it’s a really hard thing to balance with this many moving parts in the scale of something like this”. Driver continued by saying, “So I love playing those scenes, especially with Domhnall, ‘cause he’s a great actor and there’s nothing is kind of taken for granted where, you know, oh, this happens and it moves on. If anything, Rian slows the pace and there’s not a moment that’s taken for granted. It’s always broken up into little pieces and the story in our mind comes first before an explosion.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Press Conference...a Recap

Domhnall added, “I don’t know. I think it’s funny, you know, like there’s just such a huge amount of drama going on in that group of people but then also just a huge amount of bitchy infighting as well, which I think is really fun to see them kind of really hurt each other from the inside as well as from the outside, you know, the united front thing is difficult for them sometimes. But it was just – yeah, I’m not good – sorry, I think, it’s such a privilege to be in the film.”

Towards the end of the press conference, a question was asked about the legacy of Leia and Carrie. “I don’t think I can really follow that, except to just say Carrie’s daughter Billie is I think all of those qualities. She’s smart and funny and shameless and wonderful”, commented Ridley.

“Yeah, I mean, I agree with everything that was said. I think that something about Carrie that I really look up to is, and something I didn’t realize until recently, was just how much courage it takes to truly be yourself when you’re on a public platform or when possibly a lot of people will be looking at you, and she was so unapologetic and so openly herself and that is something that I am really trying to do, and it’s hard. And just like Daisy said, like Laura said, like Gwendoline said, I think that she will always be an icon as Leia but also as Carrie. What an example, you know? And I am so fortunate to have met her and I think that she will really live on forever”, said Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Press Conference...a Recap

The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin are the executive producers.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in U.S. theaters on December 15, 2017.

Could Epcot be Getting a Main Gate Hotel in the Future?

Epcot Hotel Rumors

Multiple online sources are sharing news that a new hotel may be coming to Walt Disney World!

Rumors of a Main Gate hotel for Epcot have fans excited – especially the most prominent rumors of another monorail hotel, this time on the Epcot loop! The most popular location for this resort has it placed so that it would be able to use the current Epcot monorail station, providing transportation for resort guests to Magic Kingdom.

Disney has already announced a huge re-imagining of Epcot, including the Main Gate area and a large portion of Future World. So it certainly doesn’t seem out of the question that a resort addition could be coming.

There is even talk of this resort having an entrance to the park for guests and/or serving as an entryway for everyone entering the park – similar to how guests entering Disneyland Park pass under the Disneyland Hotel in Paris.

Another rumor has the new resort off to the side of the entrance – with a western location (near The Seas aquarium) the more popular side. That location would, most likely give guests a fantastic view of World Showcase Lagoon and any nighttime entertainment that happens there.

At this point theming rumors are slim, with very little detail on the actual resort being tossed around. It is assumed that any resort built would also have a Disney Vacation Club wing or section.

I don’t know about you, but I would LOVE to see a Main Gate Epcot resort and really hope this become a reality! I love being able to walk from the deluxe resorts in the Epcot area to the park, but think it would be awesome to enter through the Main Gate with the iconic view of Spaceship Earth!

As soon as more information is released we promise to pass it along to all of our readers!
