Disneyland Drinks

For those who may not know, the Frosé is actually a tasty beverage featuring frozen rosé wine, making it the perfect indulgence for you Southern California afternoons.  To ring in the holidays in style, Disneyland has created their own clever version of the trendy drink dubbed the Frosty Frosé

Former Disney Cruise Line Employee Arrested to Embezzlement Scheme

Disney Dream at Sea

A former employee aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship pleaded guilty in a San Diego federal court Thursday to one count of wire fraud in connection with his scheme to embezzle more than $275,000 from the Walt Disney Company.

Renan Dias Da Rocha Gomes, 32, admitted that from at least October 2015 through Oct. 27. 2017, he was employed as a merchandise host and assigned to work in the merchandise stores aboard the Disney Wonder.

Gomes admitted he executed his scheme by fraudulently obtaining money through his access to the VeriFone payment system in order to embezzle funds from Disney for his own personal gain.

According to his plea agreement, Gomes admitted he made about $275,000 in unauthorized charges to Disney’s bank account and loaded the value of the funds onto Disney gift cards while working aboard the Disney Wonder on the high seas.

Gomes also admitted that from April 23 through May 7 of this year, he spent about $37,700 of the embezzled funds for his own personal benefit by taking his family on a Disney World vacation.

While on vacation, Gomes said he used the gift cards with the embezzled funds to pay about $8,200 in lodging, $29,500 on food,  beverages, merchandise and entertainment expenses.

As part of his plea agreement, Gomes will be required to repay The Walt Disney Company the total amount of funds he stole which the company was unable to recover.

Gomes, a Brazilian national, remains in custody pending his next court appearance on March 9. He was arrested in October when federal agents boarded the Disney Wonder ship after it made port in San Diego Harbor.

Disney Parks VoluntEARS Share the Joy This Holiday Season

Disney Parks VoluntEARS Share the Joy This Holiday Season

Happy Holidays! Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has many great traditions that make the holiday season merry and bright. One of those traditions at Disney Parks is the commitment to support local communities and share the joy with families around the world. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Walt Disney World Resort volunteers worked with the U.S. Marine Corps to collect more than 27,000 toys and gifts for the annual Toys for Tots drive. Cast members also served meals at the local Coalition for the Homeless, created stockings and bears for the Salvation Army, made comfort kits for children in Puerto Rico and brought the Disney Kids & Family Zone to a holiday community event.

Disneyland Resort worked with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Anaheim Fire & Rescue to collect nearly 10,000 Toys for Tots donations, and Disney VoluntEARS brought the spirit of the season to patients at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County with a holiday party that included a giant gingerbread carousel. Even more volunteers decorated the Single Marine Program Recreation Center, a home away from home for service men and women at Camp Pendleton in California.

With the help of Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy, Disney Cruise Line crew members visited more than 1,500 children across the Bahamas and the Caribbean and dressed teddy bears in cruise-ready attire for Salvation Army Orlando Area Command. Cast members from Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort gave back to their local communities by crafting with kids and supporting local outreach events.

Disney VoluntEARS from Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa decked the halls of the Fisher House Hawaii, where patients and families stay while receiving medical care at the Tripler Army Medical Center.

Disney Parks VoluntEARS Share the Joy This Holiday Season

Volunteers from Disneyland Paris and several Disney characters visited the French presidential residence, Elysée, during a Christmas celebration to bring holiday joy to 500 kids from around France. Earlier this month, more volunteers helped with the annual AFM-Téléthon, the biggest fundraising event in the world which raises money for genetic, rare and progress disease treatment research.

Cast members in Europe also donated hundreds of presents to Mission Noël and supported visits to Disneyland Paris for underserved children and families from France and the United Kingdom.

In Asia, many more Disney VoluntEARS made magic happen in their local communities. Shanghai Disney Resort cast members decorated several children’s hospitals across the city and delivered care packages to children at Shanghai Children’s Medical Center.

Disney VoluntEARS also visited hospitals and elderly care centers around Hong Kong, and in Tokyo, Disney VoluntEars joined with hundreds of community volunteers to celebrate the holidays with children at a local orphanage.

Disney Parks VoluntEARS are more committed than ever to carry on the Disney legacy of volunteerism and share the joy in their communities every day. Last year alone, Disney VoluntEARS donated more than 542,000 hours of community service to benefit nonprofit organizations and enrich the lives of children and families around the world.

Walt Disney World Union Members Reject New Contract from Disney

Disney World Union Members Reject New Contract

On Wednesday night, Walt Disney World union members rejected a new contract giving them at least a 50 cent per hour raise.  They are arguing the raise should have been greater.

Of the nearly 10,000 votes cast, about 93% were to turn down the proposed contract. This was the highest turnout in the history of labor votes for the Service Trades Council Union, the coalition of six unions that represents about 36,000 Disney employees, officials said.

A Disney spokeswoman issued a statement stating, “We are disappointed that the union rejected our fair and reasonable offer of a 6 to 10 percent wage increase over the next two years and we will continue to work with the union on negotiations.”

The proposed deal would have given both full- and part-time employees of Disney a 3%, or $0.50 – whichever was higher – raise that would be retroactive to September 24th.  They would again get the same raise in September of 2018.  Tipped employees were not eligible for the salary increase as proposed.

Disney also offered a $200, one-time, bonus this year for full-time employees and those who receive tips.

Krystle Karnofsky, who is paid $10 hour to work at Animal Kingdom’s Flight of Passage ride, said she often has to ask her grandparents for help to cover her portion of the rent for the apartment she shares with two roommates. “We deserve more than 50 cents,” she said.  “We’re not going to settle.”

Wages have been a discussion between Disney and the union since this summer.  At Disney’s request a federal mediator was brought in after the initial session did not lead to a resolution.

There have been some union leaders who are pushing for an eventual increase of the minimum wage to $15 an hour.  Those leaders have criticized Disney, and the  $1.6 billion its theme-park division brought in the last financial quarter, for not being more generous – especially with some employees living in poverty. Disney replied by saying it was already paying workers close to $2 more than Florida’s minimum wage plus offering a salary increase in its offer that was voted down this week.

The way Disney pays its employees is monitored closely as there is often a ripple effect in Central Florida. Back in 2014, Disney and the unions agreed to a minimum wage increase to $10 starting in 2016 and the following year Universal Orlando Resort — which is not unionized — also announced they would be implementing the same raise in 2016.

Theme park employees can be hard to find.  Especially with the unemployment rate falling to 3.2% in the Orlando area. Disney is currently offering signing bonuses for certain groups of employees this year.

After the vote earlier this week, union leaders plan to regroup in February of 2018.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Muppet Christmas Carol, director Brian Henson and Dave Goelz, Muppet Performer – The Great Gonzo, sat down with Oh My Disney for its popular series “Watch a Disney Movie With…,” in which they reveal secrets of the popular film.

Watch Brian and Dave share what goes into making a Muppet film, including incredible behind-the-scenes insights and a new Easter Egg about the film’s beloved narrators Gonzo (as Charles Dickens) and Rizzo (as himself), pointing out the exact moment they go from ‘invisible’ to ‘visible.’

WATCH: You’ll Never Look At This Scene In ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ The Same Way Again (Reveal at 10:50 mark)

Throughout the film, Gonzo and Rizzo are invisible storytellers. It isn’t until the last act of the film that they become visible to the rest of the Muppet community. Brian describes it as the moment where the story “catches up” in real time. It’s even reflected by the fact that the narrators begin to leave footprints in the snow.
