Black Panther’ Becomes Fandango’s Top Early Pre-Seller Among Marvel Movies

Black Panther’ Becomes Fandango’s Top Early Pre-Seller Among Marvel Movies

Advance sales for Disney-Marvel’s “Black Panther” have set a new record for Fandango as the top seller among Marvel Cinematic Universe movies in the first 24 hours, topping “Captain America: Civil War.”

Sales launched Monday night after a national spot aired during the telecast of the College Football Playoff National Championship. Chadwick Boseman stars as T’Challa, who takes over as the king of Wakanda after his father T’Chaka is killed, as shown in “Captain America: Civil War.” The film also stars Angela Bassett’s Ramonda, Forest Whitaker’s Zuri, and Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger.

The film opens on Feb. 16.

“‘Black Panther’ is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” said Fandango editor Erik Davis. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since pre-sales started on Fandango late Monday.”

Shanghai Disney Resort Opens Their First Disney Play Room in Nanjing at Nanjing Children’s Hospital

Hospital Disney Play Room Shanghai Disney Resort

It is the hope of the Shanghai Disney Resort that their newly opened Disney-themed play area at the Nanjing Children’s Hospital will bring comfort and happiness to families of children facing seriously illness.

A small ceremony was held at the hospital to celebrate the opening of this first Disney Play Room in Nanjing.  Those in attendance include leadership from Shanghai Disney Resort, Shanghai Charity Foundation, Nanjing Children’s Hospital, as well as Disney VoluntEARS. Beloved Disney characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse also made a special visit to the hospital to commemorate the occasion.

Shanghai Disney Resort VoluntEARS will begin to pay regular visits to the Play Room in Nanjing Children’s Hospital, now that it has opened.  They are hoping to bring smiles to children and families during their visits to the hospital.

“Our 10,000 Cast Members care deeply about children and families in need across Chinese mainland. Since 2011, our VoluntEARS from Shanghai Disney Resort have contributed more than 31,000 hours in the community, including at local hospitals, to positively impact over 190,000 people’s lives,” said Yan Wang, vice president of government affairs and community relations at Shanghai Disney Resort. “Here in Nanjing, we’ve worked closely with Nanjing Children’s Hospital to create a unique and fun Disney environment for children and their families that we hope will inspire and comfort those undergoing treatment and recovery.”

To mark the grand opening of Shanghai Disney Resort in June of 2016, The Walt Disney Company announced a $3.1 million USD (RMB 20 million) donation to fund Disney-themed play spaces and therapeutic play activities at children’s hospitals across China. Since the donation, Disney Play Room has opened in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Over the course of the five-year program, the donation is providing more than 50 hospitals in China with play rooms and therapeutic play activities.

The donation is administered by the Shanghai Charity Foundation for children’s hospitals in and around Shanghai, and by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation for hospitals in the rest of China, supported by Disney paint licensee Valspar. The play curriculum and training will be designed and implemented by Right To Play, a non-profit organization that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children to overcome adversity.

The support of children’s hospitals by the Walt Disney Company dates back to the 1930s when Walt Disney would visit with children, often accompanied by Disney characters and animators.

Shanghai Disney Resort plans to build more play rooms in Shanghai and surrounding regions, including Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, and Anhui Province, over the next several years.  They hope to extend Disney magic to more cities in China.

Character popups in Full Swing During the Epcot International Festival of the Arts

Character Training

If character spotting is your thing and you’re visiting Epcot during the Festival of the Arts then you’ll want to keep an eye out between the UK and Canada Pavilions in the World Showcase to see what magical Disney friends might show up!

This spot is a prime location for new characters  to try out their roles before showcasing them at various points across the different theme parks.  There’s no select time for these chance encounters though they tend to be more prolific during peak periods like festivals.  Your best bet to catch a character or two is usually just after lunch but they have been spotted throughout the day.  Check out the characters that came out to say hello this morning:

Character Training

Joining Meeko was Jungle VIP King Louie.

Character Training

Also from the Jungle Book, Baloo was making the rounds.

Character Spotting

Mickey Mouse even turned up this morning to check out the Festival of the Arts crowds!

Though guests stumbling upon character spots are more than likely to encounter characters that are already in circulation across the parks (like Baloo and King Louie), visitors have reported some delightful surprises like Perla from Cinderella, Megara from Hercules and Goofy’s son Max Goof.

Though the character popup is not guaranteed on any given day, if you happen to be in the World Showcase during the Festival of the Arts, definitely have your cameras at the ready when passing between the UK and Canada pavilions and linger a bit.  You never know who just might come out to say “Hello!”

The Epcot International Festival of the Arts will run until February 19th. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for live and up-to-date coverage on this year’s Fest.
