ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort was recently honored by the readers of Sports Destination Magazine as the top outside sports venue in the country. The magazine, each summer, publishes its annual Reader’s Choice Awards, where readers cast votes in a variety of travel categories.

Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana finished second in the outside sports venue category and Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio was third.

Nineteen different categories were featured in Sports Destination Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards, including: favorite outdoor venue, favorite overall destination, favorite indoor destination, favorite airline, favorite hotel/motel for families and favorite hotel for adults, among others.

Sports Destination Magazine is a bi-monthly publication specifically designed to provide sports event managers and organizers innovative and creative strategies essential to hosting successful youth, amateur and professional sporting events.

Disney Sports Now Accepting Nominations for the 2018 Disney Spirit Award

With the college football season now in full swing, Disney Sports is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Disney Spirit Award.

Since 1996, the Disney Spirit Award has been presented annually to college football’s most inspirational student-athlete, team, coach, fan or figure who has overcome extraordinary physical or emotional hardships or other challenges, while exhibiting a selfless nature and good sportsmanship.

The 2018 Disney Spirit Award will be presented Thursday, Dec. 6th in Atlanta during the College Football Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame.

Last year, the University of Iowa football program earned the award for starting the Kinnick Wave, where more than 70,000 fans stand and wave to the young cancer patients at the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital that sits next door to the stadium.

Some of the other winners of the award include James Conner (University of Pittsburgh) in 2016, Hank Goff (Concordia University) in 2015, Sterling Shepard and Bob Stoops (University of Oklahoma) in 2014 and Devon Walker (Tulane University) in 2013.

Nominations for the 2018 Disney Spirit Award may be submitted via e-mail to [email protected] from now until Friday, Nov. 9.

Dove Cameron stars in the shorts as Ghost-Spider, Chloe Bennet as Quake, Kamil McFadden as Patriot, Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl, Kathreen Khavari as Ms. Marvel, Dee Bradley Baker as Tippy Toe, Skai Jackson as Gloria Grant, and Steven Weber as Captain George Stacy.

The Walt Disney Company Donates $1 Million To Boys & Girls Club of Burbank

The Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley announced that The Walt Disney Company is making a $1 million dollar investment in the organization through a donation that will provide the funds needed to build a new Main Club facility and give 400 Boys & Girls Club members a safe place to go after school.

In 1995, the Club began in an old firehouse just up the road from The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California; and now, more than two decades later, the Club serves thousands of young people every year in six different Southern California cities, including Burbank, North Hollywood, North Hills, Van Nuys, Sun Valley and Hollywood.

Club supporters, City of Burbank stakeholders, Burbank Unified School District personnel, political representatives and special guests joined Boys & Girls Club CEO Shanna Warren and The Walt Disney Company Senior Vice President, Enterprise Social Responsibility Elissa Margolis for today’s announcement during an event held on the site where the Club will be built. The brand-new facility, which is expected to be completed by fall of 2020, will be a two-story, 16,000-square-foot space with two multi-purpose rooms, a games room, creative arts space, STEM lab, teen club, two learning centers, teaching kitchen, conference room and garden/roof patio.

“The Walt Disney Company is pleased to make this contribution and fund the construction of a new main club facility,” said Margolis, senior vice president, Enterprise Social Responsibility for The Walt Disney Company. “The impact of this new club will more than double the number of members served by The Boys & Girls Club and provides a safe place that meets the diverse needs of our local youth.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and Greater East Valley’s mission is to help every child reach their full potential, focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, character and leadership through a variety of programs—including the only Deaf and Hard of Hearing program in the area. The Club will share the new facility with Burbank Unified School District, and the project has been a joint effort between the two organizations.

“For the last 10 years, we have been on a journey to acquire a new main club facility that meets our ever expanding needs,” said Warren. “Because of The Walt Disney Company’s confidence in the Club and financial support, we have just taken a major step forward in making our dream come true.”

Even before the start of season three, Disney has ordered season three of “DuckTales”! The series stars David Tennant (“Doctor Who”) as Scrooge McDuck, Danny Pudi (“Community”) as Huey, Ben Schwartz (“Parks and Recreation”) as Dewey, Bobby Moynihan (“Saturday Night Live”) as Louie, Kate Micucci (“Garfunkel and Oates”) as Webby Vanderquack, Beck Bennett (“Saturday Night Live”) as Launchpad McQuack, Toks Olagundoye (“Castle”) as Mrs. Beakley and Disney Legend Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck.

News of season three of “DuckTales” pick-up was revealed today in a video featuring Pudi, Schwartz and Moynihan recording together for the first time.

Season two guest stars include Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Edgar Wright (“Baby Driver” director), Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”), John Hodgman (“Vacationland: True Stories from Painful Beaches”), Jameela Jamil (“The Good Place”), Libe Barer (“Sneaky Pete”) and Lance Reddick (“John Wick”). The previously announced recurring cast for season two include Paget Brewster (“Criminal Minds”) as Della Duck, Donald Duck’s twin sister and his nephews’ long-lost mother; and Bernardo de Paula (“Rio”) and Arturo del Puerto (“Fear the Walking Dead”) as José de Carioca and Panchito Pistoles of The Three Caballeros.

“DuckTales” reached nearly 100 million views on social media and digital platforms in its first season. Brand extensions for the series include toys, books, apparel, plush and collectibles from Disney Parks, Experiences & Consumer Products, with new products debuting spring 2019.

The animated comedy-adventure series chronicles the high-flying adventures of Duckburg’s most famous trillionaire Scrooge McDuck, his mischief-making triplet grandnephews – Huey, Dewey and Louie, temperamental nephew Donald Duck and the trusted McDuck Manor team: big-hearted, fearless chauffer/pilot Launchpad McQuack; no-nonsense housekeeper Mrs. Beakley; and Mrs. Beakley’s granddaughter, Webby Vanderquack, resident adventurer and the triplet’s newfound fierce friend.
