Life-Size Chocolate Holiday Santa Scene Constructed entirely of chocolate, this life-size sculpture weighs approximately 2,000 pounds! The sculpture, created by two-time world pastry champion and the resort’s executive pastry chef, Laurent Branlard, is showcased in the lobby of the Swan. It features chocolate Santa sitting in his chair; a 7-foot-tall, 400-pound chocolate nutcracker; chocolate fireplace; chocolate Christmas tree; and chocolate toy train. The scene will be displayed in the lobby of the resort throughout December and is 100 percent edible. However, any chocolate lovers thinking of taking on the challenge of consuming this enormous sweet should consider that it is 4 million calories! (And unfortunately, the sculpture is not available for tasting.)

Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort to Open in July

Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort to Open in July

Gran Destino Tower at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort will be opening of July 2019 and they just announced you can book rooms starting November 27th! We brought you the details on the new resort and its progress throughout the build. Now we are excited to see that they have allowed guests to begin booking at the resort. I know this was a much needed and anticipated resort upgrade.

With Disney’s ongoing effort to create unique and amazing experiences for guests staying on property, their Coronado Springs Resort (along with many others) has been undergoing refurbishment and construction for quite some time. There finally seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel as Disney Parks announced today that their new Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs will be taking reservations and on track to open July of 2019! The 15-story tower will not only stand as the highlighted feature of the newly renovated resort, but it will also serve as the main entrance for guests who are visiting.

Gran Destino Tower will contribute 545 new guest rooms, 50 of which are suites, as well as include a themed restaurant on the top level. It will feature a magnificent 2-story lobby trimmed with classic Spanish themes praising explorers, writers, artists, and architects. The Spanish influences will be felt entirely through the new building and renovated rooms.

Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman, Bob Chapek also announced that the 1800 existing rooms have been entirely completed in refurbishment. This includes new fixtures, furniture, and lighting in each room! In addition to the completion of refurbished rooms and the new tower, a second restaurant will be available to guests. It will sit on the island centered in Lago Dorado. New walkways have also been established over the lake to make dining at the island accessible to all guests no matter where they may be roomed.

Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Serving Thanksgiving Eats – Review

Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Now Serving Thanksgiving Eats

Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Now Serving Thanksgiving Eats

The Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is now serving Thanksgiving eats.  My toddler and I hopped in our spacecraft and headed over to Tomorrowland Terrace to have a Thanksgiving feast that was out of this world!

Thanksgiving Dinner – $15.99 (adult)/ $8.99 (child)

Even in Tomorrowland, you can find a delicious spread for Thanksgiving.  For the dinner special, roast turkey is piled high with house-made stuffing, Yukon gold mashed potatoes, green beans and covered in turkey gravy with a side of cranberry sauce.  I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy it was. The turkey was juicy and sliced thick plus with the gravy – YUM! Also, I really loved the spices in the stuffing because no one likes bland stuffing.

Roasted Turkey BLT Sandwich – $12.99

This is the ultimate roast turkey sandwich!  That thickly sliced roast turkey is topped with melty gouda cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato with a slather of chipotle garlic aioli all on a fresh roll.  This sandwich is “gouda” and with that special aioli – two thumbs way up! The sandwich is massive, so it is definitely big enough to share.  Also, you choose your side either french fries or apple slices.  The toddler wanted fries, so that is what we picked!

Pumpkin Pie Slushy – $5.95

Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant Now Serving Thanksgiving Eats

In a nutshell, liquid pumpkin pie! I do not know how they do it, but this is your classic post-turkey dessert in a cup. Then to top it off, they add whip cream and the cutest maple leaf sugar cookie.  The cookie actually reminded me of when I was little, and my mom would make pie crust cookies when she baked her pumpkin pies.  But seriously, treat yo’self and DRINK THIS!

Pumpkin Pie Tart – $4.79 or 1 Snack Credit

I like to think I am a pumpkin pie aficionado, and every good pie starts with the crust.  The crust was not soggy at all. It was great.  The filling was evenly spiced and everything nice with that dollop of whip cream on top.  This is an awesome holiday use of a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan.

Overall Thoughts

Forget about the stress of holiday cooking this year! The Tomorrowland Terrace in the Magic Kingdom is the place to be this turkey day.  The food is scrumptious, and you can not beat the prices!  Are you dining at Disney World this Thanksgiving? Post in the comments below.  Stay hungry Disney friends!

SKYLINER UPDATE: Skyliner Will Not Have Air Conditioning

Skyliner

Skyliner

This past week at D23 Destination D felt a little like Christmas for us die hard Disney fans! We learned so many great things-, especially about the Skyliner!  Over the course of the event, Disney announced a few new details about the upcoming Skyliner gondolas. The most exciting news was that the Skyliner will open sometime in Fall 2019. We even got an up close and personal look at the gondolas themselves!

Since the Skyliners announcement at 2017’s D23 Expo, there has been much speculation as to just how exactly the gondolas would be cooled. Disney recently announced that the gondolas will not have A/C. Not to worry though- the gondolas WILL feature a passive cooling system so it isn’t as though this announcement means we will be stuck in metal boxes in the sky with no relief from the Florida heat. Though Disney has not confirmed just how the passive cooling system will work, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that this will consist of cross-flow ventilation for air flow and reflective windows to prevent direct sunlight.

When completed, this brand new mode of transportation will connect guests to Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Carribean Beach Resort, (the soon to open) Rivera Resort,  Art of Animation Resort, and Pop Century Resort. This new transportation method will do wonders to alleviate heavy bus traffic to those resorts while offering a fun, new way to experience Walt Disney World Resort while will giving guests a bird’s eye view of the resort.

Stay tuned, if Disney provides any new details about the passive ventilation system will be sure to bring you all of the details.

It’s a Small World Lit Up For Christmas Around the World

It's a Small World Lit Up For Christmas Around the World

It’s a Small World ride at Disneyland is twinkling brightly celebrating cultures from around the world. Thousands of lights twinkle and flash all over the exterior of the ride while the traditional “Small World” music has had a holiday update. As you flow through the different lands you see the holidays from all around the world infused in every part of the ride.

The Fantasyland ride is one of my favorite places to visit at Disneyland(not so much at Walt Disney World).  The boat ride starts from outside and as you float through you will find your favorite Disney and Pixar friends throughout the different lands greeting you from their native land. If you look above you will even find Peter Pan and Tink circling above.

This Thanksgiving – Stephen Twinning of Twinnings of London Travels to Epcot–  Calling all tea lovers and Anglophiles everywhere – get yourself to Epcot to meet this tenth-generation member of this famous tea family! Stephen Twinings will be visiting Walt Disney Resort during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend of November 21-24.

This Thanksgiving - Stephen Twinning of Twinnings of London Travels to Epcot

Twining joined the Twinings Tea business in 1985 and is now serving as the Director of Corporate Relations.  If all things English are your cup-of-tea, you are in for a treat!  Tea lovers have the opportunity to meet Stephen Twining and have merchandise signed at The Tea Caddy Shop at the United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot! Do you fancy a cuppa? You are in luck! Visitors of The Tea Caddy can hand-pick their own collection of Twining Tea when they meet with Stephen Twinning!

A unique holiday gift for the tea lover – a custom selected collection of teas in a special box signed by Stephen Twining! A gift that will bring a smile and a story to tell over tea and biscuits! Visitors can purchase a Twinings tea box, made of wood, to then fill with 10 individual tea bags they select!

This Thanksgiving - Stephen Twinning of Twinnings of London Travels to Epcot

In addition to the Twinings tea offerings at the shop, 12 specialty blends from the Walt Disney World Discovery Collection are available. Conessiures have choices such as Pure Sencha Green Tea, Two Seasons Darjeeling, Medly of Mint or Budding Meadow Chamomile. These distinctive blends come in boxes of 15-large leaf tea bags and are only found at The Tea Caddy shop.

When you enter the shop the smell of the holidays is in the air. Though the weather outside is, quite frankly, still warm in Florida, it is chilly in other climes. A cup of tea is just the thing to warm up when it is cold outside.  In the still warm south, perhaps a tall glass of the iced version may better suit you. Either way, a stop in this quaint shop will leave you happy.

Looking for a place to have a spot of tea? Look no further than the Rose & Crown Pub and Dining Room Tea Experience. A tradition worth experiencing in a place filled with old world charm.  Space is limited in the tea room so reservations are encouraged. Take time to slow down and relax in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. It will do you good!

What is your favorite way to relax? We would love to hear your suggestions here at Chip and Co.!
