Save The Children hosted their West Coast Centennial Celebration this past October 2 in Beverly Hills, California.
During the ceremony, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger was honored with the Centennial Award for his efforts to improve and protect children’s lives around the world.
“I’m honored to accept this award, and i proudly share it with the thousands of Disney employees who volunteer their time and talents to make the world a better place, especially for children” said Iger.
Save the Children was founded in 1919 and it has been improving the lives of children around the world through better education, health care and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters and wars ever since.
Jennifer Garner was the host of the “Centennial Celebration: Once in a Lifetime” gala that also included appearances of Ellen Pompeo, Harrison Ford and Oprah Winfrey who presented the award to Iger.
“Children are the bond that brings Disney and Save the Children together, helping them to thrive in impossible situations, lifting them from disaster, and giving them the support they need to reach their potential and actually have a shot at the future that every young boy and girl deserves. And these same shared values are exemplified through all of Disney’s outreach efforts. That comes from a leader who has vision, who has integrity, who has decency, and has a daring and a very generous heart” mentioned Oprah.
“It’s impossible to listen to the inspiring stories we’ve heard tonight and not appreciate the power of children and the need to protect them in order to unleash their talent, unlock their potential and create boundless opportunities for them” said Iger during his speech. “But far too many children live without the protection, respect and support they deserve, and the mission of Save the Children is more critical then ever but they can’t do it alone. We all have a responsibility to be part of the solution as individuals, as leaders and as corporations with the reach and resources to make a real difference.”
The Walt Disney Company has partnered with Save the Children for so many years supplying areas vulnerable to disaster, raising awareness by creating innovative programs and funds to serve the needs of children, providing school supplies, personal care products, toys and books as well as donating money during natural disasters and other global emergencies.
