If you are an early bird aiming to get a head start at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, your morning strategy just got a permanent upgrade! Following a trial run, Disney Cast Members have confirmed that the new rope drop procedures tested at Animal Kingdom are now officially here to stay.

Here is everything you need to know about the updated morning entry system before your next trip to the park.

Under the previous rope drop setup, Disney Resort hotel guests were allowed to scan through and head to attraction areas for Early Theme Park Entry (starting at 7:30 a.m.). Meanwhile, non-resort guests were held back in The Oasis—the relatively narrow entry walkway just inside the turnstiles—until the official park opening time at 8:00 a.m.

With the new permanent procedures:

All guests are now brought onto Discovery Island prior to the park’s official opening.
Moving crowd holding zones out into Discovery Island provides significantly more space for guests to breathe, spread out, and enjoy the morning atmosphere.
While Discovery Island shops do not open before 8:00 a.m., PhotoPass photographers are stationed near the Tree of Life, giving non-resort guests a great chance to grab iconic photos without the usual afternoon crowds!

New Rope Drop Procedures Being Tested at Disney's Animal Kingdom

To manage the flow of early morning guests, Disney has set up three main holding checkpoints leading off Discovery Island:

In front of Island Mercantile: Leading toward Pandora – The World of Avatar.
In front of Zootopia: Better Zoogether!: Leading across the bridge to Expedition Everest and Asia.
At the former DinoLand U.S.A. bridge: Leading toward the park’s eastern pathways.

Universal Theme Parks Revenue Climbs in Quarter 2 as Attendance Softens Heading Into Summer

Universal’s theme park business brought in more money during the second quarter of 2026, but Comcast’s latest earnings report shows that rising operating costs and softer-than-expected attendance took some of the sparkle out of the results. Theme park revenue reached $2.413 billion for the quarter ending June 30, an increase of 2.7% compared with $2.349 billion during the same period last year.

Comcast credited the revenue increase primarily to its Orlando theme parks and the continued impact of Epic Universe, which opened in May 2025. The new park gave Universal Orlando Resort an additional gate for the entire quarter, unlike the year-earlier period when Epic Universe was only operating for part of the quarter. Lower revenue from Universal’s international parks partially offset those Orlando gains.

Despite bringing in more revenue, adjusted EBITDA for the theme park division fell 5.1%, dropping from $641 million last year to $609 million this quarter. Operating expenses increased 5.7% to $1.805 billion, outpacing the growth in revenue. Comcast attributed those higher expenses primarily to the cost of operating its domestic theme parks, including the expanded Universal Orlando Resort.

Comcast also acknowledged near-term softness across its theme park business, with attendance beginning to soften in June and landing below the company’s expectations. Comcast did not disclose specific attendance figures or explain how attendance compared with the same period last year, so the report does not show whether total visitation increased or decreased year over year.

The takeaway is a bit of a financial roller coaster: Epic Universe helped push Orlando revenue higher, but attendance pressure and the expense of operating a larger resort pulled earnings lower. Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Updating Development Rules as Disney World Construction Expands

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is preparing to update its Land Development Regulations as major construction projects continue across Walt Disney World. The district’s Planning Board is scheduled to review proposed changes designed to bring the regulations in line with the 2045 Comprehensive Plan adopted last year.

That plan guides future decisions involving land use, conservation, infrastructure, and development throughout the district. While the plan allows room for a possible fifth Walt Disney World theme park, Disney has not announced plans to build another gate. The proposed updates include revised development limits, new projections for how much land could be developed through 2045, and changes to water, wastewater, stormwater, and infrastructure requirements.

The district is also considering standards for floating solar facilities, which could allow Disney to generate additional renewable energy without using valuable land. Instead, solar panels could be installed on bodies of water around the resort. The amendments would also bring local regulations into compliance with Florida’s updated statewide stormwater rules. District staff has recommended approval, and the Planning Board is expected to move the changes forward.

The timing comes as Disney continues work on several major projects, including Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney Lakeshore Lodge.
