400+ Celebrities Denounce Disney’s Decision to Jimmy Kimmel Show Off the Air
Over 400 artists, including notable figures with connections to Disney, have signed an open letter from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) condemning the decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The letter denounces Disney’s actions, which followed government threats over comments Kimmel made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Prominent signatories with Disney ties include Tom Hanks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ariana DeBose, Diego Luna, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Natalie Portman, and Martin Short. Their protest adds to a growing chorus of criticism, including from former Disney CEO Michael Eisner, who previously condemned the company’s action.
The ACLU’s letter argues that the suspension represents a “dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.” It states, “We the people must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech. Efforts by leaders to pressure artists, journalists, and companies with retaliation for their speech strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country.”
Anthony D. Romero, executive director of the ACLU, drew a parallel to a historical era of censorship. “We now find ourselves in a modern McCarthy era, facing exactly the type of heavy-handed government censorship our Constitution rightfully forbids,” Romero said in a press release. He added that the silencing of Kimmel “evokes dark memories of the 1950s” and called on Americans to mobilize in defense of free speech.
The Events Leading to the Suspension
The show’s suspension came after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chair Brendan Carr threatened Disney’s FCC license, warning of “additional work for the FCC” for companies that “fail to change conduct.” This pressure followed Kimmel’s controversial remarks where he accused the “MAGA gang” of “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”
Prior to the suspension, Nexstar and Sinclair, two of the largest owners of ABC affiliate stations, had already decided to preempt the show, with Sinclair’s vice chairman calling Kimmel’s remarks “inappropriate and deeply insensitive.” The letter encourages all Americans to join the ACLU in the fight to defend and preserve constitutionally protected rights.

Aerial Photos Reveal Construction Progress on Monsters, Inc. Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Things are getting monstrous over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! New aerial photos by X user bioreconstruct show major groundwork and infrastructure work underway at the future site of the highly anticipated Monsters, Inc. suspended coaster. This attraction, announced at the 2024 D23 Expo, will anchor an all-new land themed to Pixar’s hit franchise where laughter fuels the fun.
The construction site sits in the former Muppets Courtyard and Streets of America area, with the recognizable facades now serving as a backdrop for heavy machinery and new foundations. In the latest photos, you can clearly spot freshly excavated circular foundations, utility placements, and support pads being set in place. These will eventually form the backbone of the coaster’s massive show building and ride system.
The Monsters, Inc. ride will take guests directly into the legendary door vault. Imagineers have promised the experience will simulate the thrilling sequence from the film, with guests boarding suspended ride vehicles that swoop and swing through an endless array of doors—making this Disney’s first suspended coaster. Riders will race alongside Mike and Sulley as they try to keep the laughter power flowing, with plenty of appearances from Roz and the rest of the gang.
From above, you can see the coaster’s footprint taking shape, with the new show building expanding behind existing facades that will eventually serve as themed entry points into Monstropolis. Work around the old clock tower and neighboring facades suggests that Imagineers are carefully blending the new land into Hollywood Studios’ existing streetscape, while behind-the-scenes infrastructure prepares for the scale of the ride.
With steel not yet rising, these early stages are all about underground systems, drainage, and support structures. Once the groundwork is complete, it won’t be long before we start seeing vertical progress and, eventually, the first pieces of the suspended track installed.
This new Monsters, Inc. land represents a huge expansion for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, promising immersive theming, character encounters, and the one-of-a-kind coaster experience fans have dreamed about since the movie’s release in 2001.
Firearms Still Prohibited at Disney World and Universal Despite Florida Open Carry Ruling
Recent changes to Florida’s firearm laws may have left some residents and visitors scratching their heads, but Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, and local officials want to make one thing clear: guns and theme parks do not mix.
Last week, Florida’s First District Court of Appeal, with backing from Attorney General James Uthmeier, ruled that the state’s ban on open carry was unconstitutional. That means open carry is now legal statewide. But the ruling does not override private property rules, which means businesses like Disney and Universal still set the tone when it comes to weapons on their grounds.
Disney reiterated its stance in a statement: “Guests are not permitted to have firearms, ammunition, knives, or weapons of any kind at Walt Disney World Resort. All Guests are expected to comply with Walt Disney World Resort Property Rules.” Those rules apply across all four theme parks, both water parks, Disney Springs, and resort hotels.
Universal Orlando Resort’s policies are equally clear, listing “explosives, weapons, or items that could be used as or have the appearance of a weapon” as strictly prohibited.
Orange County Sheriff John Mina also addressed the new law in a video message posted to X, noting that while firearms can now be openly carried in Florida, there are still many exceptions: “You cannot carry openly or concealed in most government buildings, on college campuses, or passenger terminals at airports. And it’s important to understand that private property owners can still prohibit anyone from carrying firearms onto their properties and trespass anyone who violates that rule. That includes shopping malls, hotels, and theme parks.”
The reminder comes after multiple firearm-related incidents in recent years at Walt Disney World, including arrests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney Springs, and even a teenager found with a handgun at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In short: even though Florida’s laws have shifted, Disney and Universal are keeping their “no weapons” policy firmly in place. Guests are urged to leave their firearms and similar items at home—or risk being trespassed from the parks.
New Aerial Photos Reveal Major Progress on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit Replacement
It’s been just over a month since Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit took its final bow at Universal Studios Florida, and already the skyline is changing fast. Thanks to fresh aerial photos from @bioreconstruct on X, we now have a bird’s-eye view of how quickly demolition has turned into full-blown site prep for the coaster’s replacement.

From above, you can see freshly poured sheet foundations with rebar in place, the unmistakable footprint of roller coaster support footers being readied for action. The pace is impressive—what was track and steel just weeks ago is now an organized construction zone, with foundations forming like musical notes across the park’s former concert-themed ride.
The photos also capture demolition wrapping its way deeper into the old Rockit station, along with activity spilling toward CityWalk. A large crane looms over the site, and crews are moving swiftly, with the first cuts to the original track happening only a month ago. Now, entire sections are gone, and the bones of something new are already beginning to emerge.
Universal hasn’t officially announced what’s coming, but speculation is flying faster than a Rockit launch. Permits filed in late 2024 suggest a major new coaster is in the works, rumored to be an Intamin design. Some insiders believe it could debut by the end of 2027, giving Universal Orlando a fresh thrill ride centerpiece just in time for the park’s next evolution.
Winter Wonderland: Wekiva Island Celebrates a Decade of Holiday Magic
While Florida might be known for sunshine and palm trees, a wintery chill and a blast of holiday spirit are on their way to Seminole County. Wekiva Island is celebrating 10 years of its Winter Wonderland tradition from November 30 to Christmas Day, transforming its riverside oasis into a festive, family-friendly destination.
The attraction will be decked out with thousands of twinkling lights, festive décor, and nightly “snow” flurries that almost feel like the real thing. “We started Winter Wonderland to give Florida kids a taste of the holiday magic the Weinaug family had growing up in western New York,” said Carrie Vanderhoef, Wekiva Island’s manager. “It’s incredible to see it hit 10 years and know what a tradition this event has become for our community.”
This year’s celebration includes all of the favorite events from previous years, plus some new additions. The festivities officially kick off with the Holiday Market, a new event on November 30 from 1 to 5 p.m., where you can find unique gifts from local vendors.
Afterward, stick around for the official Tree Lighting at 7 p.m. to see the Christmas Tree Forest, anchored by a 30-foot tree, light up the night.
Upstairs, Santa’s Workshop will be overflowing with cheer, featuring Santa’s office, Mrs. Claus’ bakery, and tons of photo ops. Santa will be meeting children every weekend through December 21. For a sweeter visit, try the new Donuts with Santa on December 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. ($12 per person).

Stories with Mrs. Claus: Children can enjoy beloved holiday tales on December 3, 10, and 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. ($10 per child).
Reindeer Feed Making with Mrs. Claus: Help Santa’s reindeer prep for the big night on December 8 and 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. ($10 per child).
Holiday Outdoor Movies: Bring a blanket and enjoy a holiday classic riverside on December 7, 14, and 21 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Fans of classic holiday films can also meet some special guests. The Grinch and Whoville Elves will be visiting on December 13 from 2 to 6 p.m., while Clark Griswold and Cousin Eddie will be inspecting the holiday décor on December 20 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Shop, Give Back, and Explore
The Wekiva Island General Store will feature a variety of unique gifts, and you can get a head start on your shopping list at the Sip and Shop event on December 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. The Island elves will also offer free gift wrapping on any gifts you bring on December 16 and 22.
In the spirit of the season, you can also give back. Wekiva Island is accepting new, unwrapped toys for Kids House of Seminole from November 28 to December 15. Those who bring a gift to the Sip and Shop event will receive a free ornament.
For a different view of the festivities, Wekiva Wild River Tours will offer special holiday boat tours with festive décor. You can also elevate your experience by renting the special holiday-themed VIP Cabana, complete with a hot cocoa bar and s’mores on the firepit.
