Zoom to the Future: Jim Carrey Confirmed for Live-Action Jetsons Movie
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Carrey is currently in talks to star in a live-action film adaptation of the classic cartoon series, The Jetsons. The movie is set to be directed by Jurassic World filmmaker Colin Trevorrow, who is also in talks to co-write the script alongside Joe Epstein.
The Jetsons debuted in 1962 as a futuristic counterpart to the prehistoric comedy The Flintstones. The series, created by legendary animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, initially ran for only one season of 24 episodes. However, the cartoon was successfully revived in the 1980s for two additional seasons, bringing the total number of installments to 75. The show is perhaps best remembered for its catchy theme song.
While this new project will mark the first live-action film based on the property, there has been one animated movie: Jetsons: The Movie was released in theaters in 1990, grossing approximately $20 million.
The series centered on the domestic adventures of a family living in the far future, complete with a futuristic utopia of flying cars, conveyor belt floors, and robot maids. George O’Hanlon notably voiced the patriarch, George Jetson, in both the original 1960s episodes and the 1980s revival.
The Jetsons belongs to a bygone era when people genuinely believed technology would simplify life and create a future that was fundamentally optimistic. Today, we’re a little more cynical, but that disconnect might be exactly what makes for a good movie. This clash of wholesomeness against modern reality is what made The Brady Bunch Movie so effective—the juxtaposition of an out-of-time, ultra-wholesome family against the grungier 1990s was comedic gold. Perhaps the 21st-century’s take on the Jetsons’ dazzling, but naive, future could lead to some excellent, dark comedy.
They’re Back! Pixar Unveils First Look at Buzz and Woody for Toy Story 5
Pixar recently released the first official look at everyone’s favorite sheriff and space ranger—Woody and Buzz Lightyear—for the highly anticipated film, Toy Story 5.
The first official images from Pixar show Woody and Buzz Lightyear standing against a cloud-filled, blue backdrop, reminiscent of Andy’s classic bedroom wallpaper. While both characters look largely unchanged, there are a couple of small, notable differences following the events of Toy Story 4.
First, Woody is no longer wearing his sheriff’s badge, having passed it on to Jessie. Second, Buzz now sports a new gold star sticker covering the latter half of the “Lightyear” logo on his chest. These appear to be the only major changes to the characters in this first look.
Another piece of concept art shared on the Disney Movies website offers a glimpse of a scene featuring more than one Buzz Lightyear. The accompanying description explains:
“The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and in the case of Buzz Lightyear, “back” is an understatement. Fifty commemorative Buzz Lightyear action figures, stuck in toy mode, are searching for Star Command and they just might make considerable problems for everybody.”
The Disney Movies website also released a second piece of concept art showing Jessie, Buzz, and Bullseye alongside a digital tablet character with frog characteristics. This specific piece of artwork was shared without an accompanying description for context.
In Toy Story 5, the beloved toys are back for a new adventure: Toy meets Tech. The roles of Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang are challenged when they are introduced to the objects of modern kids’ obsession—electronics! The film is directed by Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris, and produced by Jessica Choi. Mark your calendars: Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026.

Universal Kids Resort Unveils Details of Themed Lands Featuring Interactive Play Areas and More
Universal Destinations & Experiences has released new details about the themed lands coming to its highly anticipated Universal Kids Resort. Opening in 2026 in Frisco, Texas, the new park is being specifically developed for families with young children to experience.
Kids and their families will be able to explore, imagine, and play while enjoying attractions in seven lands made for kids, featuring iconic brands and characters:

“Universal Kids Resort embodies the spirit of igniting thrill that drives everything we create — designed to bring our youngest guests and families together through play, creativity, and beloved characters and stories,” said Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative. “It’s a destination made for kids and, as a regional theme park, brings Universal’s signature storytelling to families close to home.”
Inspired by that spirit, the creative team brought the park to life through a child’s lens.
“We envisioned this park through the unbridled creativity of kids where infinite imagination, curiosity and free-spirited play were core to our design philosophies,” said Brian Robinson, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Universal Creative. “It produced a park that’s pure joy and an absolute celebration of what it is to be a kid.”
Families will enter through the Isle of Curiosity, a whimsical gateway with space for kids to explore. This will be the spot to join the one and only Gabby from DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse for a special meet and greet and a pawsome dance party.
At DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp, Shrek has transformed a swampy shack into a waterlogged paradise for some ogre-sized fun for his three adorable triplets. Kids and their families will have a chance to meet Shrek and Fiona, and they can even take photos in the onion carriage. Two interactive play areas, Shrek’s Swamp Rompin’ Stomp and Shrek’s Swamp Splash & Smash, will allow kids to stomp and/or splash away.
Families can also venture to DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar. From meeting the fearless hero himself along with Mama Luna, Perrito and friends to taking on the challenging carnival games Barriles de Leche and El Gato’s Meow, the feline fun will be in full force.
Next, let the games begin at Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, where the Yellow Minions attempt to rein in their Purple counterparts, leading to water-soaked fun. Families can take part in this action-packed competition, or just relax, and watch the chaos unfold. With a special Minions meet and greet and interactive play areas, there’ll be plenty of surprises.
The excitement continues for kids and families as they experience awe-inspiring and thrilling moments exploring Jurassic World Adventure Camp. Whether it’s meeting a newly hatched baby dinosaur or climbing up the Lookout Towers play area to get a Pteranodon’s view of the park, guests of all ages will have an exhilarating journey.
“With all the interactive play areas at Universal Kids Resort where kids can explore, discover and create, we’re really excited about this being a place for kids to play their way. More fun abounds at DreamWorks’ TrollsFest, where the music will be bumping and the energy will be pumping in the liveliest party in Troll Kingdom. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a deceased person at approximately 6:40 p.m. The location was reported along North World Drive, in the vicinity of the Magic Kingdom area resorts.
Multiple sheriff’s units and emergency vehicles responded to the scene. According to eyewitness reports, a service entrance at the Contemporary Resort was secured with crime scene tape while authorities conducted their investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office later confirmed to news outlets that the incident is an apparent suicide.

Mermaid the Manatee Released Back Into the Wild After Rehabilitation at EPCOT’s The Seas
There’s a splash of happy news at EPCOT! After nearly seven months of care at The Seas with Nemo & Friends, Mermaid the manatee has officially been released back into her natural habitat.
Mermaid arrived at The Seas in March after being rescued from the Homosassa River in February. At the time, she weighed about 525 pounds and had a distinctive split tail that earned her the name “Mermaid.”
Under the care of Disney’s dedicated animal care team, Mermaid steadily regained strength and reached a healthy release weight of over 600 pounds. According to Cast Members, her release took place on October 9, during a time of year when cooler water temperatures can help ensure a smooth transition for manatees returning to the wild.
Mermaid’s release is part of Disney’s ongoing partnership with the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership, which works to rescue, rehabilitate, and return injured or orphaned manatees to Florida waters. The Seas has been an active participant in this program for decades, helping more than 30 manatees recover and return to the wild.
