Disney became a Champion of the Community sponsor with the Magic in 2010 and the official Magic jersey sponsor in 2017. Since the beginning of the relationship, Disney and the Magic have worked together on outreach initiatives that benefit the local community including the Orlando Magic Recreation Centers and sponsorship of the OMYF Open golf tournament. The relationship also allows the two brands to connect their fan bases and provide shared marketing opportunities while also reaffirming Central Florida’s reputation as a global sports destination.

“The Orlando Magic are thrilled to announce an extended agreement with our longtime friends, Walt Disney World Resort,” said Magic CEO Alex Martins. “The extension represents a continued shared commitment to both the local community and creating magic for fans and guests alike. As pillars in the Orlando community, we are proud to represent the City of Orlando and all those who call “The City Beautiful” home.”

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing is underway both Inside and Outside of the Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing
Walt Disney World Railroad Testing
Walt Disney World Railroad Testing

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing is underway both Inside and Outside of the Magic Kingdom. The excitement builds daily around the thought of riding around Disney’s Magic Kingdom on “Walt’s Railroad“. We get a nostalgic feeling from being on one of the four Steam Engines, which are named Walter E. Disney, Lilly Belle ( Walt’s Wife), Roy O. Disney, and Roger E. Broggie (Designer and Engineer of the Magic Kingdom’s Railroad). So where does the railroad project stand right now? Let us take a look, and then we can all take an educated guess on the return.

The Walt Disney World Railroad closed back in 2018, with tracks being removed later that year around the construction site of Disney’s newest roller coaster, Tron Lightcycle/ Run. Both projects were then delayed by the worldwide pandemic in 2019, and work restarted in 2021. During this time Disney refurbished the Fantasyland Train Station and Main Street Station. Then in the summer of 2022, we started seeing a new tunnel being constructed under the coaster, with tracks being laid a few months later. Work was completed on this section in September, and landscaping and finishing touches are being done as we write this.

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing

This brings us to the beginning of the new month of November 2022. Where do we stand right now? Back in February of 2022, we spotted the refurbished Lilly Belle #4 Steam Engine at the Fantasyland station testing, and soon after the train disappeared from site, with only the sounds of the train whistle being heard in the distance.

Disney then released a post back in the summer of 2022, which you can read above, about new cast members being trained as conductors for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Still no site of any of the Steam Engines, but you could hear them in the distance again.

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing

Finally, just a few days ago, Tik Tok Account rjplansyourvacation posted the first site of the refurbished Steam Engine crossing the road going into Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

@cruisesbyrj

We saw this as we were going to our reservation today. How cool?!?!?! #magickingdom #disney #disneytiktok #disneytrain #waltdisneyworld #wdw

Walt Disney World Railroad Testing

The tunnel under Tron Lightcycle/ Run is completed and the tracks have been laid. Again, the landscaping is being finished. The fantasyland stations are complete, and we are seeing ride theming being tested again at the stations’ Water Tower. The water tower is on for the first time in years.

Finally at the Fantasyland station tracks have been preset for installation on the backside of the Coaster and are being installed as we type.

So with all that construction being done and finalized, it looks like the whole thing should be done any day now. This leads us to wonder, when will we see the train actually make a full circuit test, and when can we expect the railroad itself to open again to guests.

Our best-educated guess, from watching all this over the 2022 year, is soon! I know that is a copout answer, but our theory is the tracks should be finished next week. Testing around the whole park should begin as early as the second week of November, unless it is delayed until after Thanksgiving, with an opening of mid to late December, We do not think it will wait until Tron opens. So end of 2022. at the longest January of 2023. That way Annual Passholders are not blocked out for the reopening.

Disney Cast Members Celebrate a first look at MagicBand+ in Disneyland

Disney Cast Members got a first look at MagicBand+ in Disneyland! MagicBand+ debuted at Disneyland today but select Cast Members got a sneak peek before the launch.

More than 100 cast members were among the first to wear the new MagicBand+ while watching “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure park with members of the product team who developed the technology that creates a carousel of colors on viewers’ wrists.

“I feel like a big kid and like the interactions with the band and show,” said Aileen Requejo, Buena Vista Street Retail. Aileen and the other cast members were randomly selected through a cast-exclusive sweepstakes opportunity to experience the MagicBand+ during the show before the pre-sale began for other cast members, Magic Key holders and Disney Vacation Club members. Sales open for all guests Oct. 26.

During “World of Color,” the bands’ lights glow with every color of the rainbow in time with the show’s memorable soundtrack and dancing waters.

“I remember watching ‘World of Color’ as a kid when it first opened, and MagicBand+ added a whole other layer to the experience in being able to see not only my band light up, but those around me as well,” shared Emmarae Ensor, Fantasyland Retail, who was attending one of her first cast-exclusive events.

Not only did the cast members get reserved viewing for “World of Color,” but they were surprised with two MagicBand+ bands to keep. One of the styles they received featured a not-previously-revealed design with the “Storytellers” statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse that welcomes guests on Buena Vista Street.

Members of the MagicBand+ product team were on hand to watch cast members’ faces light up with smiles. Senior Product Manager Hava Levy, Digital Experience, spent more than two years working on the development of MagicBand+ and was beaming with pride after the show.

“This is a pretty big deal for me as someone who calls Disneyland their home,” Hava shared. “Seeing MagicBand+ as an enhancement to a show that makes me cry every time I see it is especially amazing, and it’s super cool seeing all the cast members wearing the band and everyone so excited. There’s really no greater reward for your work!”

We are so excited to see MagicBand+ come to Disneyland and so happy for the Cast Members who got the first look at MagicBand+ in Disneyland!
