Magic Kingdom is gearing up for its biggest glow-up in decades, and now we know exactly where some of that creative magic will be brewing. Disney just received official approval from the South Florida Water Management District for a major 12.5-acre expansion project at the old STOLport site off World Drive, paving the way for two brand-new Walt Disney Imagineering office buildings.
The project, charmingly codenamed “Project K,” transforms a slice of the former Walt Disney World Airport into a permanent creative hub for the teams shaping the future of the resort. The permit, filed in August and approved on November 24, gives Disney five years to complete everything from the new buildings to fresh sidewalks, parking, and utility infrastructure. Aerial legend @bioreconstruct captured sweeping new photos showing semi trucks, dumpsters, construction materials, and plenty of equipment filling the footprint once occupied by the Starcruiser’s arrival terminal and guest rooms. Those dumpsters are especially telling. Visible inside are sinks, toilets, and interior fixtures, confirming that crews are actively clearing out rooms as they prepare the space for its Imagineering makeover. It’s less “prepare to make the jump to lightspeed” and more “prepare to make the jump to office space,” but for Imagineers, that’s arguably just as thrilling.
