La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney Closes its Doors Unexpectedly

La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort unexpectedly closed its doors for good today. The Bakery had been open for twenty years and is now closed to make way for another business to return.

La Brea Bakery posted about the closure on Instagram:

“To our Valued Customers,

We’re sad to announce the closing of our La Brea Bakery Cafes in both Los Angeles and Downtown Disney District. For nearly 34 years, our flagship store on La Brea Avenue has served the community and you, our loyal customers, have embraced us with open arms. Our Downtown Disney location was one of the founding restaurants and has been open from the start. The Cafés have brought so much joy and such a powerful sense of community to us and our neighbors.

Our last day is January 9th. However, this doesn’t mean La Brea Bakery is gone forever. As we continue to focus our thriving La Brea Bakery business on grocery stores and other foodservice channels, we will continue supplying our customers with your favorite artisan breads. You can find our breads – both fresh baked and our Take ‘n Bake – in various grocery stores across the country, including local Southern California area stores such as Ralph’s, Vons, Pavilions and others. Earl of Sandwich Returning to Downtown Disney This February

For those Guests who crave delicious, handcrafted sandwiches, they will be delighted to learn that the fan-favorite Earl of Sandwich will be returning to the Downtown Disney District this February! Soon Guests can once again look forward to one of their hot sandwiches on artisan bread, with grab-and-go options at Earl of Sandwich or table service options at Earl of Sandwich Tavern, both of which will be temporarily located at the La Brea Bakery location.

La Brea Bakery is exiting the restaurant business, and we thank them for two decades of partnership in the Downtown Disney District. Keep your eyes peeled for Earl of Sandwich opening in the coming weeks!

And that’s not all for the east side of Downtown Disney District – as we previously shared at D23 Expo, Porto’s Bakery will be bringing their famous Cheese Rolls, California-Cuban cuisine and more to the district. Plans are underway to design and construct an all-new Porto’s location near the Esplanade on the footprint of the La Brea Bakery location. We look forward to sharing more about these exciting plans in the future.

As we look to the heart of the Downtown Disney District, Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen continues the evolution of their location into Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio. Soon, Guests will be able to enjoy the open, warm and welcoming ambiance across the outdoor patios, veranda and dining rooms. In fact, recent diners have already begun to enjoy the updated second floor space! Jazz Kitchen’s “all-day” menu will feature the popular Pasta Jambalaya and Gumbo Ya-Ya, plus fresh riffs using coastal-inspired ingredients like the new open-faced Grilled Lobster BLT Po’ Boy, pictured above. Signature hand-crafted beignets will continue to be a staple, with an expanded menu including specialty glazed beignets that are dipped, drizzled and sprinkled in jazzy signature and seasonal flavor combinations. Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen is closed for a short time to accommodate continued work in the first-floor dining space and will debut its exciting new look and menu soon!

Disney Home and WonderGround Gallery are temporarily closed to accommodate some behind-the-scenes interior construction. But don’t worry, you can easily head over to World of Disney to pick up some favorite home decor, and enjoy a temporary pop-up WonderGround Gallery location near Star Wars Trading Post for fantastic artwork and prints!

And to end this Downtown Disney District update on one more delicious note, we’re super excited to reveal another look at concept art for the Din Tai Fung restaurant, which will open on the west side of the district in the future.

Brendan Fraser is open to returning to The Mummy franchise. Coming off a major critical success in “The Whale” Brendan Fraser is looking for work. In a recent interview with Deadspin, the actor known for his role as Rick O’Connell in the Mummy franchise said “Sign him Up”

When asked if he’s willing to return to the blockbuster action horror franchise Mr. Fraser replied “I’m not opposed to it, I don’t know an actor who doesn’t want a job,” Fraser continued “I don’t think I’ve been this famous and unsalaried at the same time in my professional life so sign me up!”

Brendan James Fraser is a Canadian-American film and stage actor. He is well known for his comedic and fantasy film leading roles in major Hollywood films, such as Richard “Rick Ricochet” O’Connell in The Mummy trilogy.

For Disney, he played in George of the Jungle, Encino Man, Son In Law, In The Army Now, and George of the Jungle 2.

New Tron Lightcycle Run Sign Installed In Preparation of Opening. With the majority of Disney’s newest Coaster being completed, and now Disney dropping hints online about an opening day, we are starting to see the signage being installed.

There are new warning signs being installed along with height requirements. The newest sign to appear is at the entrance behind Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. building and shows the Tron Logo and what appears to be the warnings for guests. Must be (blank) Tall, Those with back issues, your normal coaster signs. It appears to also say that you cannot have any loose articles, and the rumor is it mentions double-sided lockers.

Also installed was the height stick sign. Which should measure kids who might not be tall enough to ride Tron Lightcycle Run. The markings say 48″ but there are hash marks at the 42″ and 46″ marks, so no official word on the height.

Te Fiti Statue Now Visible from inside Epcot for Moana Journey of Water Attraction

Te Fiti is now visible to excited guests passing by the future site of the Moana Journey of Water attraction coming soon to Epcot.

We can also see that surrounding Te Fiti is a lot of metal framework for what looks to be additional features being added.

Previously hidden behind construction guests could only see the very tip of Te Fiti’s head. Now we can see the emerging Ti Fiti and a volcanic mountain or monolith featuring the Heart of Te Fiti symbol.

Seeing the image of this rocky feature with the Heart of Ti Fiti symbol rising up we have to wonder if this will be one of the interactive features or be lit up in any way. Illustrations show this area with water falling over the rocks.

Looking closely we can see flowers and fauna covering the structure. Disney Parks has given us a glimpse of several water features. What we know so far is that we can expect at least a dozen characters hidden throughout a Polynesian atmosphere. Music and water will be a big part of the experience. I am sure we can expect a few fun interactive surprises as well.

Disney’s official site describes this coming attraction as a go at your own pace self-guided, educational, interactive play space.

“Stroll along a self-guided outdoor trail where you can play and interact with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again. Along the way, learn about the importance of water and discover its playful personality—just as Moana did on her heroic voyage.”

Attractions Location

While most guests are looking forward to the opening of Moana Journey of Water the placement of it which is at the front of Epcot’s park just across from the Creations gift shop and close to the Seas with Nemo ride. There have been some questions as to the choice of its location though with many feeling that this Moana attraction with its Polynesian theming would fit in better in a park like Animal Kingdom.

Where to Spot Te Fiti & More

To get a better look at the new and coming Moana attraction head over toward the area between the exit and the Seas with Nemo and Friends to get a good sneak peek. If you are entering the park it will be to your right if you are exiting it will be to your left side.

I am on the fence myself about the Moana Journey of Water location. It doesn’t put a damper on my excitement to experience it and we will be checking back regularly and keeping you updated as we note any progress.

Some guesses from the Chip and Company Team are Annual Passholder Previews starting on 3-21-23 with an opening on 4-8-23 or Cast Member Previews on 3-21 and AP Previews on 4-8.

All we know right now is it is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2023. I expect we will get an official announcement sometime this week.

New Disney 100th Anniversary Pins Now Available At Magic Kingdom!

The big 100 years of wonder celebration is about to start, so is no surprise we are already getting some of the platinum merchandise like these Disney 100th anniversary pins! There are 20 different ones to collect and you can find them in Magic Kingdom for $14.99.

The collection features classic characters like Mickey, Minnie and Donald all in a beautiful silver matte color and a touch of color that is iconic to each character.

Disney Princesses are also part of this collection, we found Elsa, Moana, Mulan, Tiana and Snow White.

For Pixar fans we found Woody, Nemo and Miguel!

There are also beloved characters from classic animated movies like Tinkerbell, Alice, Stitch, Winnie the Pooh, Simba and Dumbo! They are all adorable.

Finally, for Star Wars fans we found a Grogu and Chewbacca pin!

Soul of Jazz Exhibit in EPCOT American Pavilion Now Closed

The Soul of Jazz exhibit that was once showcased in Epcot’s American Pavilion is now permanently closed.

The Previous Soul of Jazz Exhibit

Where the signs for The Soul of Jazz once sat we now find signage with “Creation Tradition: Innovation and Change in American Indian Art.” displayed. This new display can be found on the far right side just inside the American Adventure building.

In the areas inside where the artwork and glass case displays once were, we find artwork has been added to fill in the wall space, while the surrounding floor space sits empty.

Here is a peek at what the area once looked like.

What’s Next

There is no word on what might be coming next. Perhaps Disney will even leave this area empty to accommodate more guests. At the time we visited the talented Voices of Liberty were performing and they drew quite a crowd.

In the meantime, guests can enjoy the American Indian Artwork exhibit displayed. The American Adventure has re-opened after a long refurbishment as well so be sure to check that out while visiting.
